Marquee Signing: 'Sources' confirm £29m attacker 'will join' Liverpool today. Deal agreed after transfer talks in Chile

Stop the press: Is Brendan Rodgers actually on the verge of making a top signing? After three years of (mostly) dross transfers, it appears that Reds have inexplicably won the race to sign Brazil star Roberto Firmino.

On Monday evening, Brazilian newspaper GlobeSporte claimed that:

* Liverpool have agreed a 5-year deal for Firmino, and are 'likely' to sign him after after the the Copa America.

* 'Negotiations' are moving 'quickly', and Sky Sports reports that Liverpool have held talks with Firmino over the last few days

* The Liverpool Echo further claimed that Firmino will cost '£25m-£30m'.

Too good to be true, right? Well, further credible sources are now verifying the story, and last night, the BBC claimed:

"Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle to sign Brazil and Hoffenheim forward Roberto Firmino for £29m".

This all sounds very exciting, but the BBC also reports:

"Ian Ayre is in Chile for talks with a view to a five-year deal at the Premier League club".

Damn and blast! For me, that puts a major dampener on things, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see Firmino end up at Manchester United.

Sky Sports also claims that deal is done:

"Sky sources report that Liverpool have agreed a deal with Hoffenheim to sign forward Roberto Firmino"

Sky Sports News HQ reporter Dharmesh Sheth claimed:

“We have been told that the deal [for Firmino] has been agreed and that he has given a verbal undertaking that he will join in the next 24 hours."

The Times has a different take. A few hours after the BBC/Sky Sports reports, Tony Barrett - the Times' Merseyside reporter - claimed:

"A deal for Firmino is not yet agreed. Elements of it are. Other issues still to be overcome but Liverpool have made significant headway".

What about the player himself? When asked yesterday about a possible move to the Premier League, Firmino told reporters:

"My life is here at the Copa America, and I'm thinking only about the Copa. It is in God's hands, until things are decided at the end. For now, I have a contract with Hoffenheim until 2017."

There's no smoke without fire, and there's overall, there's probably some truth to these reports. Can Liverpool seal the deal, though?

If another Champions League-based club comes in at the eleventh hour with a gigantic contract offer, why would Firmino reject that to sign for Liverpool?

The next 24-hours will certainly be interesting, and if Liverpool can seal this deal, then things will suddenly look a lot brighter ahead of next season.

  2. I lost the trust two years back in Ian Ayre and his commitee..but still a gut feeling that firmino and kovacic will both sign for Liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  3. Why it gives you a damper??? If they had done that last year maybe Sanchez would have come to LFC. Wenger went to Brazil to speak with Sanchez personally. At the same let's hope he does not pull a Jackson Martinez on us...

    ReplyDelete
  4. Is he anywhere near the signing we're looking for to propel us next season? He looks clumsy on the ball..

    ReplyDelete
  5. I believe Ayre is talking with Firmino's agent, while the player is concentrating in Copa. So lets see what the player says after the tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow, lets start looking for more clumsy players so.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I read earlier he is third party signing. Meaning he was also owned by a 3rd party in Brazil, LFC have bought the rights from that third party, (roughly £11m being the price they stated). If thats correct we could refuse to let him go to anyone else, so it looks like he is ours, happy days.

  8. Fingers Crossed....

  9. Id be happy with that 11, maybe switch up the AMs, couts in the middle and firmino left or milner in the middle and the brasileiros on the wings. I cant see bacca happening, but he looks like a great player

  10. GET THIS DONE!!!

Can you imagine Firmino together with Coutinho in the team???

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's done JK, forget Tony Barrett he's a joker who hates the Liverpool hierarchy and wouldnt have anything to moan about if he signed. Remind you of anyone? Another loaded article permeated by your overall belief that anything Rodgers does well is simply some form of accident yet he should carry the can for anything wrong.

I know you don't rate him but the fact is we got Milner when Arsenal and City wanted him, complete with there more revered managers that you keep going on about and both offering higher salary than us. Now Firmino has been snatched from under the noses of LVG and the ManUre. What does this mean for your theory that Rodgers can never attract players over the big names, and that Ayre can't negotiate????

  12. Not a bad signing is it?..................... :-)

  13. £59m for D Maria or £29m for Fimino + £11m in change.

  14. Have you seen him play?? How many Brazil international AM's are "clumsy on the ball"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Two left feet eh???.........LOL.

  16. Well well well, who would of thought B.R making a marquee singing,i'm gobsmacked. If the other transfers go through in Bacca,Kocevic,Clyne, then i think Liverpool will be back with a bang.Fingers crossed.YNWA

  18. Liverpool confirm Firmino signing.

  19. Looks good. But with the number of central mids we have I expect us to line up in a 4321. I certainly hope so as that would give us more control in games plus I don't want to fee JFM on the wings )and then allow us to bring on Ibe and Marko when ahead in games for the last half hour here and there.
Anyways, until the little magician is pictured in a Liverpool shirt I refuse to get too excited cause if this doesn't happen I will be in a terrible mood all freakin' day.

  20. Confirmed on lfc site. Terms agreed. Jus medical left wooooo :)

  21. Confirmed on LFC Twitter feed. £25m rising to £29m. Subject to medical but all signed up. Five years

  28. WOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Yes Yes Yes - The dark clouds over Stoke are just beginning to clear - WELL DONE IAN AYRE - WELL DONE B R - For the first time in 3 months I am getting the buzz back - This guy could be our MOJO MAN - World seems a brighter place this morning GOOD ON YOU FSG

    ReplyDelete
  29. If we can now continue to sign a few more players like Firmino, then I'm sorry Logan, but you might just have to change your name.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ian Ayre - MY HERO - Now just a small matter of getting £155 million for Sterling ha ha

    ReplyDelete
  31. The club have confirmed the signing subject to a medical yeeeehaaaa!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Soooo....Looks like some people may have to eat some humble pie...Let me rephrase that, some people might have to be intravenously fed humble pie lol

    ReplyDelete
  33. Clyne then a striker.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Awesome news, haters can suck one.
So this means that we've spent our warchest (estimated at 35m) on Milner, Bogdan, Ings and Firmino. Getting max value for Sterling now becomes top priority. If we can get £50m for him, plus a couple of other sales (Borini, Balo, Lambert, Enrique), I think the likely 3 signings are:
    £15m - Clyne
    £15m - Kovacic or Illaramendi
£20m+ - Bacca or another top striker
I'd be way more than happy with that. Great way to go into the new season. This is like when we signed Torres moreso than Suarez/Coutinho/Studge. Impressing everyone in a big international competition, highly rated across europe, and this coming season or maybe next will be his time to breakout, similarly to Couti. Looking forward to seeing them link up.

  35. £50m for Sterling or he is with us next season ... he just might feel it is worth staying now ?

    ReplyDelete
  36. In Ayre we trust: if we got 3 of those 4 you mention i would be over the moon its just great to get a quality player.

    ReplyDelete
  37. He is an unwanted guest now theres no coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's confirmed on the club website....now give it a couple of days before Sterling to City is confirmed. Still, if City really pay 45 million for Raheem and we pay not the constantly quoted 18 million but 30 million for Firmino, we get a better player and 15 million in hand. Not a bad deal at all!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Win win for us ... we get £50m or we carry on paying him just 35 grand a week and regardless of what the fans think he will do a job for the club as he will want to prove his worth ....

    ReplyDelete
  40. done deal. confirmed on lfc.tv!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sami greased the wheels for the Can signing now possibly Couts and Lucas have helped with this one -now we need Benitez to do the honours

    ReplyDelete
  42. Samba football next season ..... can't wait :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tough, I'd still get rid of him. I dont hate him or not rate him as a player, but the only way he can redeem himself is to fire that gobsh!te agent and have a stunner of a season, signing whatever contract we put in front of him. Anything less would be unacceptable and since that is a very difficult goal to achieve, I'd rather the 50m thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm over the moon speechless well done LFC cheers made my day

    ReplyDelete
  45. Its a good feeling, we are so used to being underwhelmed, this is the first signing in a while that is unanimously admired, both by us and by other fans. Optimism is an unfamiliar thing amongst redmen, but lets bring it back.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Does he need a work permit or something

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's amazing how a quality signing can lift the gloom- 1 or 2 more and I might even speak allow my missus back indoors

    ReplyDelete
  48. It is done. Confirmed on the .com

    ReplyDelete
  49. Is this the the first time ever that we have won the race to sign a top class player?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Finally a signing we can get excited about!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Looking forward to seeing the pics of Ash running around without his kecks

  55. Aye its on LFC official site! in doing cartwheels naked around the block!!! yeaaah yeaaaah and i promised to call the queen about knighthood for Ian Ayre. i suppose he will be known as Sir Ian Ayre soon! Im so shocked that we actually pulled this over the line!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Man oh man! I take back my cynical post of yesterday about Firmino. This is just way too awesome! I would join you but I can't do cartwheels anymore :P But I will conference call the queen with you. Amazing stuff, eh!

  57. This isn't small news guys and gals.....this is big...

    ....he's not cheap...
    ...he's very sought after...
    ...plays only second to neymar....,
    ....he's chosen us....

Barca front three are so flair dynamic direct...I just can't help but feel that with quick instinctive players like firmino, couts, lallana and a mobile twisty striker we will once again be a very different prospect for opposition teams this year.....

Been optimistic for a while now...although difficult, it's worth keeping the faith.....

    ReplyDelete
  58. Possible Line up for next season isn't looking too bad:
    Iker C
    Moreno sakho skrtel Clyne
    Hendo can
    Cou firmi
    Sturidge baca

    ReplyDelete
  59. now, we simply need to step up for striker and RB,and i call this succesfull transfer window. Bacca or Luiz Adriano (or my favourite gamble, Alexandar Mitrovic)

im pretty exited of how we could line up.

    ---------------Migs-----------------
    Clyne--Skrtel--Sakho--Moreno
    ------------Can---------------------
    --------Milner---------
    ------Hendo------------------------
    -----Firmino----------Couts-------
    ------------Studge------------------ (or Bacca/ new ST)

    ReplyDelete
  60. that looks nice too!

    ReplyDelete
  61. The good thing is that Firmino is on 100k p/w .

    ReplyDelete
  62. Rather Illaramendi ,we need a DM
Bacca would be idea ,a real tiger like Tevez. will score 20goals/season
Not sure why we holding out on Clyne ,Saints wont drop price .

  63. Speaking to Rio Ferdinand on BT Sport as part of ‘Rio Meets Steven Gerrard', the former England international said: "This was round about the time when I was doing a lot of thinking about what’s next for me.

"I’d had a couple of initial chats with Brendan saying to me 'I’m going to start managing your games and I have to look after you and I want you to be fresh and I don’t want you to be playing three games in a week because you may be tired.'

"But this situation was a bit unique because it was Real Madrid and I wanted to play.

"When I was told I wasn’t playing for the sake of the team and the squad and my relationship with Brendan, I took it and I accepted it.

"But I sat on that bench devastated because I wanted to play so, it is one of those situations."

He added: "It sort of pushed me making a decision to move on and try something different."

    Tension...

  69. He's not the 20+ goals per year number 9 that we so desperately needed...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sirian Ayre ;D

    ReplyDelete
  71. ......................................................Bacca
    ..........................Ibe,,,,,,,,..............Coutinho..............Firmino
    ..................................................Can............Henderson
    .............................Moreno.........Sakho.............Skrtel.......Clyne
    .....................................................Mignolet

    bench: Ings,Origi,Lallana,Milner ,Ilori,Wisdom,Bodgan

we are also being linked with
Denis Cherchev and i think we will get one of Kovacic or Illeremendi

    ReplyDelete
  72. Decent player, can do some good stuff, but his relative lack of goals is a worry.

Not the durable, quality number 9 we need to either replace Stuzza when
he's injured, or take the heat off him when he's actually fit.

I'm concerned that we are stockpiling a bunch of players who'll all want to occupy a similar area, e.g, central attacking mid/forward, which will only be exacerbated if/weh we sell Sterling. I say, "if" because I'm worried we'll c0ck that sale up and be lumbered with a malcontent (to say nothing of his raging mecenaryness).

Now we've got Firmino, that surely must end the pursuit of Kovacic? Not identical players, but both are better going forward, as is Milner. I know we have to replace Stevie, but we already have a bunch of players to play in this position, we need that big threat up top.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Now we need IllarramendiI

    ReplyDelete
  74. Poor old Adam...can't even make the team when his fan picks it... ; )

    ReplyDelete
  75. Not a bad team! I'd take Bacca ir Adriano, for sure. Would like us to sign another midfielder, too - either Illaramendi or Kovacic or Pogba will do ;) Plus Konoplyanka, because I'm a fan.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Excellent graphic and quite a nice line-up.

Big concern with it would be that Can and Hendo have serious engines and the rare ability to not only cover every blade of grass, but offer quality forwards and back.

I think players like that should have the license to use their workrate as assets for us, so shouldn't be tasked with the defensive midfielder responsibilities you have them done for.

If it were me, I'd have a defensive midfielder sitting in between those two to protect the defence and allow those two to bomb on a la box-to-box stylee.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Illarramendi and Clyne and i'll be over the moon

    ReplyDelete
  78. Agree, we need a quality striker so let's get that done first!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I just wonder what has changed though? Signings like these over the past three years have all gone sour.

Hats off to whoever convinced Firmino to join, it is a massive signing, especially when Rodgers is on holiday!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Chelsea have offered 40 million for Raheem. That's 5 million less than Citeh....ok....you can have him Mou....NOT

    ReplyDelete
  81. Good post. I don't think we do have to replace Stevie, though. who made a minimal, even negative contribution last season. What we are doing now is also largely made possible because his wages are off the books! I don't think he'll be missed at all in a structural sense. To play in the deep playmaker position we have Can, at least, and I would expect us to sign another flexible midfielder who can fulfil a number of roles to provide cover there.

I appreciate you playing this transfer down but Firmino is more than decent. He's truly a brilliant talent just turning the corner in his career. I see him as a replacement for Sterling because he has a very similar statistical picture; carries the ball about as often with similar success in similar areas. He's obviously a bit more developed than Sterling so in my view it's an immediate upgrade. I'd expect him to be played in the center forward position more often than deep or wide; he's a clever finisher able to get in behind. I would say that an additional striker, with Ings, Origi, Firmino and the injured Sturridge on the books, is rather unlikely.

I really like flexibility and adaptiveness in a squad, so the different combinations excite me rather than make me worried about too much competition. It also enables us to play a more intensive press because players can be rested and rotated which is necessary to play that way for a sustained period. So as the squad takes shape I'm encouraged to see the possibility for some very exciting football emerging.

I think the Kovacic deal is still possible because Kovacic is more of a midfielder Though I'd rather see us go for someone who can get stuck in a bit more, someone with a bit more presence and energy. For that reason I don't particularly like Illaramendi, personally, I prefer other players, but he would be a welcome signing at the right price.

I'm sure we'll add another couple of players in that area of the squad, and there are so many good options out there that I'm not particularly concerned about it. The defense is far more of a worry for me. We really need two signings in there imo if we are to stand a realistic chance of doing more than playing some pretty football next season.

    ReplyDelete
  82. they might offer more up front though...

    ReplyDelete
  83. we actually need a DM before a striker. Apart from Lucas, we have no recognised DM, and Lucas is too injury prone and not mobile enough.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Perfect, a bidding war between the 2 richest clubs

    ReplyDelete
  85. Deal Done Jamie, time to bring a bit of positivity back into you writing, you've been a misery since the end of the season...Start smiling a bit son. YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  86. Why? Other clubs were not interested or did not follow the Interest through.

Also Hoffenhein is a small club so Liverpool is a big step up.

    ReplyDelete
  87. To get Firmino it was worth it, well done for sealing the deal!

    ReplyDelete
  88. We all know Rodgers is not keen on DM's so if we are going to continue to leak goals then you need to score. Striker for me no 1 priority!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I am pretty sure there were other offers for Firmino. Maybe this time LFC went in for the kill there and then whereas before we would mess the seller around.

    ReplyDelete
  90. we have hendo, can, allen, lucas who can all play in the hole, we need a striker and a rb the most. unless of course you're happy with our options in those positions...........no.............didn't think so

    ReplyDelete
  91. I reckon he is going to City. Less competition than what he would have at Chelsea. City will be looking to move on players too.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Add Lacazette to those two and you have squad to compete.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim, subject to a medical which will take place immediately following the player's participation in Copa America 2015 for Brazil.

So confirmed by the official site but my question is this.

Our biggest signing since Suarez and Rodgers is still missing in action. The last time we heard anything was the Stoke defeat.

It is extermely odd, the club has confirmed five signings already but the official website has not released one statement from Rodgers welcoming the new signings. That is the tradition ain't it?

Even Pellegrini is taking swipes in the media at Mourinho. Mourinho has spoken about how much he wants Falcao.

    Brendan, where are you?

    ReplyDelete
  94. So, you're implying that Liverpool get overrun by teams through the midfield because we lack good options at striker or right back...not because we lack a combative DM. Crikey, have you even been watching our games in the past few years?

    ReplyDelete
  95. he's on holiday, everyone knows that now.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Technology? Guess it is non existent in Rodgers daily schedule while he is on 'holiday'.

    ReplyDelete
  97. And BR is no longer favorite to be fired ist

    ReplyDelete
  98. Don't mind you Craig Burley but you're talking out of your arse. Liverpool didn't sign Firmino as a striker. Firmino was also not unwanted by big clubs. He turned down City.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I was not being bitter.

New signings are always welcomed by the manager after it has been announced by the club. Whether Rodgers is on the other side of the world, technology is available to communicate with the club.

The fact that we have not heard one word from him since the Stoke defeat is very strange.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Pity he not off to Spain.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Signing can only take place after 1st July

    ReplyDelete
  102. Dude, no offence, but the continuous anti-BR rhetoric contributes absolutely nothing to this thread. Everyone gets it, you don't want him here. We also get that his job is not safe, you don't need to keep implicitly suggesting that to us. You've come to the point of obsession with slating this dude.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Makes no difference. If our offical website has confirmed all five signings then why wait till they have completed their medicals?

It will be egg in the face if LFC were not 100% sure that Firmino would pass his medical especially confming that he has signed!

    ReplyDelete
  104. And you have not been anti-BR? Pot kettle black.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Seems like Roberto Firmino's deal is for real as soccernet has reported it. 29 mil pounds is not a low price. Hope he produces like what he's been doing for the past 2 seasons and hope he can be played in a position that suits him.
Now one more established striker and right back is needed and we are ready for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  106. OK, bitter and desperate.

    ReplyDelete
  107. That's entirely irrelevant and missing the point. I may be anti-BR, but I don't try to labour the point for everyone every single day, nor I do search for the tiniest of opportunities to squeeze in another anti-BR rant.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Please just stop, you're not going anywhere with this.

    ReplyDelete
  109. No, it seems like the deal is for real because Liverpool officially announced it.

    ReplyDelete
  110. It's quite nice not hearing Brendan, enjoy it while it lasts.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Better signing then Depay

Deapy is such a big flop , one of the worst signings ever liek Andy Carroll

Jozy Altidore also scored 23 goals in the everdise
    Bryan Ruiz also scored 20+

players from Germany normally succeed in England lie Dzeko and Kagawa (he was impressive till Moyes made him look bad)

    Firmino will be a legend

    ReplyDelete
  112. Choose from:

    Aubemayang

    Lacazette

    Bacca

i would choose Aubemayang because he has super pace

    ReplyDelete
  113. i wish i could upvote this ten times.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Lacazette but the mancs are on the trail of Bacca.

    ReplyDelete
  115. id go for Lacazette, but it might be a pipe dream. we are 1 year late for him. Bacca is the most realistic of the three.

on another note Apparently Arsenal is gonna be sourly dissappointed with Jackson Martinez, as i read he seems to be in way to Atleti.

    ReplyDelete
  116. players who play for Selecao very rarely are complete flops or bad players. Brazil has such a pool for talent that it takes something to be selected to national team.

Depay will be massive signing for united, like Firmino will be massive for us, i think.

    ReplyDelete
  117. man u fans were loathing the aspect of him going to city last week when those two were strongly linked. i think they will be sh**** bricks now.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Transfer window officially opens 12am on 1 July 2015. Maybe then it will be announced. Calm down

    ReplyDelete
  119. I hope you end up with BR in a room and I lock the door from outside.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Saw a bit of him at the Copa america.. He's obviously a good player, but he looked a bit jaded, touch was bit wayward.. For a Brazilian I guess we're all expecting that individual brilliance or something that changes a game ala Suarez, Coutinho, Neymar.. List goes on. Yet to see that from him.. Happy to be corrected if Im wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  121. What's impressive about this guy is not just his creativity and his knack of scoring great goals but his desire to harry and press and win back the ball, a la Suarez; something for which he been renowned for in the Bundesliga. Not suggesting that he is at Suarez's level by the way (who is?), but that desire and work rate would seem to support the suggestion that many were making yesterday - that Firmino could fit well into the 13/14 system if played in the Suarez role.

So this must mean that Sterling is definitely on his way in due course, and while I couldn't really give a hoot now, I think it's worth remembering that (before all this unsavoury contract stuff) he did carry our attack for half the season. If he can sort out his shooting I believe he's still on course to be a hell of a player, just not for us. I know he's not a popular character (rightly, to a degree), but there is a revisionist attitude towards him in an attempt to diminish his ability and potential that might prove to be very short-sighted in the long run. Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Do we even have a medical staff left for a medical? Just kidding it's strange you're not hearing anything about BR, but today I won't care. When was the last time we beat ManU for a marquee player?

    ReplyDelete
  123. Lacazette is a pipe dream.

    ReplyDelete
  124. He's quite interested in illaramendi though ...

    ReplyDelete
  125. In any case, that cannot be something bad for us.

  127. Which means we will a potential competitor, a hugely attractive one, for established strikers in the market. We gotta act fast!

  129. Christmas has come early!

(Still amazed that they didn't use this gag in the Bond film 'The World is not Enough', where Bond has a liaison with highly unlikely nuclear physicist Christmas Jones (played by a busty, sweaty Denise Richards).

  137. I think this is VERY interesting. Not wanting to engage in Rodgers (or Bodgers) bashing needlessly but it is very odd that we have not had a single release from Rodgers welcoming X or Y "outstanding" signing. WTF is going on? Even if he is on holiday he could be in the press release. One would expect to see a BBC or Sky story saying Brendan welcomes the "outstanding" Milner etc. So this could either means he is toast
or he has been completely frozen out of the decision making (not a surprise given our transfer dealings since he took over - if he had final say as he claimed) - which is tantamount to being toast. I think this is a great thread that should be debated

    ReplyDelete
  138. Just coungt how many times Rodgers refers to himself in that Stevie exchange

    I...I...I...Me...Me...Me...

Honestly, Rodgers is the biggest ego monster EVER...

    ReplyDelete
  139. There all saying.."we don't care we have Depay". let battle commence.....

    ReplyDelete
  140. Disingenuous post.

We continue to create plenty of chances - some of the most in the league - but have lacked a finisher to convert them when Danile has his annual 15 games out and 15 games ineffective...ergo...striker is needed!

    ReplyDelete
  141. Loving the talk...please post more of this!

    ReplyDelete
  142. Agree. I just hope we don't c0ck this sale up.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I have a feeling that Liverpool will look at Chelsea's Sterling bid more favourably than City's. They made that bid after City's second bid of 45 million. Why bid 40 million after 45 million was already rejected? I say because Chelsea can pay more money up front, which is want Liverpool truly want. Stuff the extra 5 million when you can get more money right now. One pound today won't be worth one pound in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Hahaha, was thinkning the same thing myself!

  145. Read it in the Metro...

  146. There's a difference between commenting on Rodgers...and making your whole life a crusade to have the Ego removed.

    ReplyDelete
  147. How we gonna do this people? Rodgers signed Gomez, Ings and Bogdan, Couts brought Firminho and we will see how Milner does before deciding on that one?

    ReplyDelete
  148. Massive signing for us. Hopefully we now go out and land a goal scoring machine to lead our attack!

    ReplyDelete
  149. I literally cannot wait to see how we line up in our first match of the new season!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Please remember, this is an open forum.

My post re Rodgers was not even to bash him. I believe I am making a very valid point about him not even getting airtime on our official website.

    ReplyDelete
  151. They're all good enough. Lacazette may pull an Henry, and I don't mean Ireland.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Thanks for the reply mate.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Lacazette all the way! Creates something out of nothing which is exactly what we need.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I'm looking forward to the medical so we can see who has replaced fan favourite Dr Zaf Iqbal.

  155. Firmino and Coutinho have struck up a great partnership for Brazil reminiscent to that of Sturridge and Coutinho for us. Hopefully they can replicate that in the Premier League. The best part of their partnership is how well they complement each other. We all know that Coutinho thrives off of space and Firmino is very intelligent at drawing players with him and creating a distraction. This is perfect because it allows Coutinho space to dictate play and Firmino to do some dirty work (Averaged 2.7 tackles per game last season compared to Coutinhio's 1.2) and get stuck in because he likes to work in tight spaces and make through balls.

The following formation would be ideal for us next season: (4-1-2-1-2)

    -----------------Mignolet-------
    ---Clyne?-----Skrtel-----Sakho----Moreno
    -----------Illaramendi? (Or Can)----
    ----Hendo----------------- Coutinho
    -----------------Firmino
    -----Sturridge----Ings(Bacca/ Rondon?)

    ReplyDelete
  156. City's bid was 40m up front plus 5m add on 's

    ReplyDelete
  157. Like say... Illarramendi? :D He might not be quite as mobile, but with Milner Hendo and Can, I think we'll be okay. He puts in less tackles than Lucas, but has much better positioning and wins his challenges on his feet rather than off a slide. Transfer seems to be happening as well, so maybe Rafa might do us another favor?

    ReplyDelete
  158. Ben Smith from BBC says that Benteke still on our radar but price an issue. Hoping we get a striker which is actually suited to the way we play.

    ReplyDelete
  159. We were dominated in midfield so many times last season. It became miserable to see. Definitely need an Alonso to run the game in there.

    ReplyDelete
  160. At least I do not make fun of his name ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  161. Firmino and Coutinho with Benteke would just be really weird

    ReplyDelete
  162. At £32.5m it will be Carroll mark 2.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I think our best bet would be Bacca. We should try for Lacazette but if he is too unrealistic, Bacca is the best option.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I just cannot see Lacazette happening but if it did would eclipse the signing of Firmino for me.

    ReplyDelete
  165. My theory still works either way!

    ReplyDelete
  166. No need to tell an Australian where the beer is, but thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  167. We need to steal Chelsea's team doctor. Eye candy...

Our players may start acting injured though so maybe not a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  168. We need to go all out for Chelsea's team doctor. Eye candy...

Our players may start acting injured though so maybe not a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Kevin Volland, anyone? Might not be as established a striker as we'd want (esp. with Origi and Ings) but he looks like a fantastic prospect, links with Firmino well, well known to Can too.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Realistically - this is how I would want the team to sign - a DM ( Illara), a RB ( not Clyne but looks like he is coming anyway) and a striker ( Bacca/Lacazette/other) and Kono on free to fill the void of Sterling.

    Squad
    Mignolet
    Clyne/RB - Skrtel-Sakho-Moreno
    Illara
    Can-Hendo
    Firmino-Coutinho
    Striker

Bench - Bogdan(sigh), Illori, Ibe, Lucas, Kono, Ings, Origi

  171. My lips are sealed.

  172. Craving toast now. Any of you Aussies have any Vegemite you can throw my way?

    ReplyDelete
  173. As is your fate.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Not sure we will be signing anymore attacking mids, we just have far too many so reckon we can scratch off Kono. You do not even have Lallana or Milner in your team :-o

I would like to see Ilori get a run. Could see him at RB this season if we we do not go for a RB.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Get Pato he suits us more than Rondon, he's younger and more experienced than Bacca and he would be cheap as well !! A Brazilian front line would be mouthwatering to watch !!

    ReplyDelete
  176. Yeah - I just saw :P . I have a sneaking feeling we are only going to be signing a striker and then we are done and Can might be our DM. Even Marko is missing from this team - we have a lot of options - some which have to be let go. That is why the Ings signing especially was unneccessary because we already have the young striker in Origi.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Always wondered why soccer players cham so much ?

    ReplyDelete
  178. Left out Sturridge too! Guess it is because we cannot rely on his fitness.

Prolific goal scorer top priority now.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Amazing 😂... I can't compete with that but I seen this and cracked up.

    ReplyDelete
  180. See - now we have the issue of too many options of which some are outstanding, some unreliable and inconsistent and some not first team quality yet. Our bench is only so small so a lot of players will be dissatisfied with their limited chances. Getting rid of the deadwood is as much a priority now.

    ReplyDelete
  181. We are going to have to move some players on, whether that be on loan or permanent.

I have a funny feeling Markovic may be going on loan.

    ReplyDelete
  182. You mean Alexander Pato? The guy who is actually more often injured than not?

    ReplyDelete
  183. Seydou Doumbia would have been perfect. He's struggling in Roma having left CSK Moscow for £11 million. Lacazette is a pipe dream and would be nothing short of miraculous. I would think realistically Remy, Aubemeyang, Bacca, Adriano a cheap bid for Kane. Benteke for the right price would be good to he has more strings to his bow than cumbersome Carroll.
I would love Moussa Sissoko to replace Allen in midfield.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Shame though. when he first went to milan he reminded me a bit of the real ronaldo, so much natural talent. Not really followed his career, too many injuries?

    ReplyDelete
  185. Just had a brainwave: we should sign Kevin Volland while we're talking to Hoffenheim.

    ReplyDelete
  186. i'd prefer a DM first

    ReplyDelete
  187. He did look impressive at Milan but he's had way too many injuries and it has affected his pace and his all round game to be honest. Can't believe he's still only 25 though.
