Confirmed: £12m 'warrior' has an 'offer from Liverpool' and he'll sign 'soon', claims Agent

Liverpool stalwart Martin Skrtel is currently linked with a summer move to Bundesliga high-flyers Wolfsburg, but what are the chances of the Slovakian actually leaving Anfield?

On Monday, execrable rag Metro 'reported' that Wolfsburg are interested in signing £12m-rated Skrtel, but when asked today about the story, the defender refuted suggestions that he's set to leave Anfield. He told reporters:

“I am not leaving anywhere. Not to Wolfsburg nor to Naples.”

Skrtel’s agent, Karol Csonto, also claimed that the Wolfsburg story is cobblers:

“The only offer which on Martin Skrtel’s table right now is the extension of his contract from Liverpool. We will be finalising it soon. It is not true that he has some offer from [Wolfsburg]”

Like last season, Skrtel - hailed this season as a 'warrior' by Rodgers - is Liverpool's most consistent defender this year, but to be fair, his return from suspension didn't really help against Aston Villa.

Indeed, prior to the game, Skrtel basically goaded Christian Benteke, and implied that he easily 'handled' the big striker earlier in the season.

What happend? Benteke played an integral role in knocking Liverpool out of the cup, and scored a vital goal to boot. Skrtel's comments were arguably counter-productive, and probably gave the powerful striker extra motivation for the game.

Still, it's good news that Skrtel planning to sign a contract extension, and it's refreshing to see another player unambiguously declare allegiance to Liverpool without resorting to Sterlingesque mercenary shenanigans.

  1. Off the story, I recon BR should try the old fashion system and play with a sweeper to cover the full backs when they go forward and cover for the C,Halfs when they move out, with 3 in midfield and 2 strikers ? cant be any worse then we would have a chance of at least a point from the remaining games with a couple of wins in there.

  2. Well, let's just say there's a reason why that formation/tactic is obsolete.

  3. What a disgrace. One of the most overrated full backs liverpool have ever see so far. Another 5 yrs of mediocrity. Oh My God, maybe Brendan should be trumped.

  4. Skrtel, Lovren, Sakho and then we look at Toure, Illori, Coates, Wisdom. do we have a solid group of centre halves here?

  5. Firstly, Skrtel is a Centre Back, not a Full Back. Secondly, his last year-and a half has shown Skrtel to be one of the best defenders in the league making the most clearances and blocks than any other player. He has started to enter that age where he should be declining, and maybe he might, but instead he has grown as a player and is a consistent defender.

  6. Skrtel positioning and defending overall is embarassing, totally embarassing. I should learn from the video footage that Big Sam The Finn played for UEFA. How my beloved Club, which has had magic centre backs as Big Sam, Carra, can consider Skrtel as a reliable defender? Our standards have become really low during these few yrs, to say the least. I suggest a good pair of glasses to many Liverpool Legends Who lavish praise of this mediocre centre back. It's incredibile to see how this ordinary, mediocre player can extend his Liverpool's career so far. Starting to feel really desperate.
