Yes Please: €16m Argentine striker hints he may sign for Liverpool if the 'offer' is 'very good'

Last season, Jorge Cyterszpiler - the Agent of Argentine striker Luciana Vietto - claimed that he had 'talked to top level clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool' about a possible summer transfer. The move obviously didn't pan-out, but reports today suggest that Vietto is one of Brendan Rodgers' summer transfer targets.

According to the Liverpool Echo today:

* Liverpool are tracking Vietto.

* The club's scouts have 'regularly' watched him this season.

* The Reds are 'lining up' a £12m (€16m bid.

When specifically asked over the weekend about Liverpool's interest, he told Spanish newspaper AS:

"If these great teams come forward and make an offer we’ll see. The offer would first have to be very good, but it would be very good for me and good for Villarreal."

Liverpool have been linked with Vietto several times in the past:

SEP 2012: Brendan Rodgers sent LFC scouts to assess Vietto.

* May 2013: Cyterszpiler told Tuttosport: "The whole world wants Vietto, including Liverpool, Real Madrid, Juventus and other international clubs. Vietto is the best young player in Argentina. "

* Oct 2013: When asked last about Vietto's future, Cyterszpiler enthused: "Vietto is the best young player in Argentina. I have received many offers from several European clubs"

* Oct 2013: The Daily Mail reported "Liverpool and Manchester City are among clubs to have asked about Argentina prospect Luciano Vietto. Both clubs have been monitoring the teenager’s development for over a year".

* Feb 7 2014: Cyterszpiler told CalcioNews24: "There is so much competition, and we have talked to top-level clubs like Real Madrid [and] Liverpool"

* Feb 14 2014: A week later, Cyterszpiler added: "Luciano is playing at a very good level and that has made several teams get interested in him and some others keep an eye on him. Real Madrid and Liverpool have showed a serious interest."

* Dec 2014: According to The Mirror, Rodgers considered Vietto as a replacement for Luis Suarez.

Vietto has 18 goals/8 assists in 36 games for Villareal this season (including 13 goals/assists in 10 games in the Europa League), which is an impressive record for a 21-year old, and £12m is a fairly reasonable price.

Vietto is often labelled the 'new Sergio Aguero', and the youngster admits that he wants to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot. In a recent interview, he enthused:

"It is great to be compared with players like that. I would love to be half as good as 'Kun' Agüero. He is a great player and he shows it every day. As I said I would love to be a player like him"

Vietto's Agent has repeatedly stated that Liverpool are interested, so there appears to be some veracity to this particular rumour, but if Liverpool sign Vietto, where does that leave Divock Origi?

  1. Don't worry about Origi,Sturridge is injury prone so Vietto will have a chance to partner one of them or Sterling.

  2. Would prefer Vietto to Dybala, Icardi ect but not Lacazette. I'm sure BR will find a way to incorporate Origi.

  7. Vietto has 18goals/8assists in 36 games. At 21 in the la liga hes playing at a very high level and his litening pace is gold. Memphis Depay scored 2 goals at the world cup at a young age and has scored goals for fun this year with 21goals/6assistd in 31 games. Young versatile room for improvement fast skillful and goalscorers, the 2 players who fit the fsg profile to perfection and we should not mess around making £12m bids. If we have to pay 20m each for both so be it, Point is we need vietto and we need depay. There genuine world class players, for their age anyway. Theyre both jewells

  8. I like this kid. He is a little small, but with that speed and his quick decision making skills I think he'd fit right in.

  9. Good stats for a young man. He may soon have a break-out season pushing 30 or more goals at which point he'll be untouchable for clubs like Liverpool. Rodgers and his scouts need to make decisions like these to spot players who are just about to come good and mature into top class players. It might not always work out but without the massive revenue streams there will always be corners to be cut, they have sign players a bit younger and a bit cheaper. This summer might be right time to spend up on this kid.

  13. If we are going to get a deal done for this lad it needs to happen now. If he carries on with his current form he will be off to Real, Barca or Atletico so so we must snap him up now. If not I'll be happy with Lacazette.

  14. I've banged on about Lacazette for a while now but if we were to get Vietto instead I would not be too disappointed.
