Photo Proof: 'Prolific' record-breaking LFC starlet trains with Balotelli. Palace surprise?

Academy starlet Jerome Sinclair has trained with the first team ahead of Saturday's FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace, which opens up the possibility that the young striker may follow in the footsteps of Jordon Ibe and make the breakthrough into the matchday squad.

Sinclair has trained with the first team several times in the past, and almost made the squad for Liverpool's recent Champions League game with FC Basel.

The official LFC website describes Sinclair as follows:

Jerome Sinclair is a forward who...now features for both the U18s and U21s at the Academy, showing his prolific ability at either level".

In 2012, Sinclair became Liverpool's youngest ever player when he made his League Cup debut against West Brom, but since then, he's failed to make the breakthrough into the first-team squad.

Given the importance of the game, though, it'll be a major surprise if Sinclair makes the bench, and even bigger shock if he actually starts the game (!)

It's more likely that Rodgers is giving him then experience of being involved in the build up to a big cup game, which - in and of itself - is a valuable development experience.

Cameron Brannigan and Sheyi Ojo also took part in first-team training today, so there's a high probability that one of them will make the bench.

  1. Pretty sure Ojo is out on loan?!

  2. Jaimie has confused Oho with Gibbs.

  3. Ojo is on loan, not ready either in my eyes...loan will do him good! Can't risk too many changes against Palace!? It's gonna be rocking down Selhurst tomorrow and they'll be up for it...with Chels and City out we should really go for this now!!

  5. He's good Sinclair, I like him, but he does miss a lot of good chances. He's one of those strikers that's sometimes better when it's difficult -- Sturridge is a bit like that too: bend a 30 yard sprint into space, check back, beat 2 men, chip the keeper from the byline? Sure. Nod the ball home in space from 8 yards? No chance. I just drank everything in the world so I know what I'm talking about.

  6. This is one of the questions from the interview Tom Werner had with the Liverpool Echo this past week.

    Q. How important is it to the club in general - and Brendan Rodgers in particular perhaps - that the team maintains this momentum and makes the top four to qualify again for Champions League football?

    A. “I want to make sure I give great credit to Brendan and his coaching staff for what he has done. We have to look at not just the play each week, but the positive direction that is going on at the club.

“I don’t know if the word is critical – it certainly is important to make top four but it’s important that we continue this positive momentum.

“We’ll all be disappointed if we don’t make top four but I’ll be disappointed if we don’t win the FA Cup for Steven Gerrard in his last year at the club.

“And not just for Steven but for our fans.

“It’s important that we continue to progress in the right direction.

  7. Raheem Sterling was the first of this new batch of kids to breakthrough.Jordan Ibe followed him.Sinclair and Sheyi Ojo are not far away from knocking at Rodgers' door. The investment in youth is finally paying off and saving us millions in the transfer market.

  8. Sounds like the direction of travel is more important than trophies but still looking to qualify for CL and hopefully win something. This seems about right to me.

The stories of BR's demise seem premature

  9. Oops looks like I am a discordant voice then or perhaps I have a different song sheet. I think if he is further forward than our youngsters and cheap enough we should get him.

He is still young and could well develop into the finished product

  10. But why not rather develop what we already have?

Instead of signing Ings rather sign a ready made quality striker and slowly introduce someone like Sinclair. Our academy will be taking a back seat again by the arrival of Ings.

  11. Yes I agree if he is good enough and ready that is the preferred option but if not we have to keep buying players that are closer to or ready to start.

We are in a different position to other "development" clubs and cannot risk CL qualification by taking too many risks with youngsters. A combination of loaning out young players coming through the ranks and buying and buying talent is the way forward

  13. If Ojo doesn't start Rodgers out.

  14. Either him or Ibe needs to start

  15. I'm pretty sure it's what most people assumed was the case.

  16. Suso got a chance first I think.

  17. A player like Ings who is just coming in to their prime can develop further too for a very small fee. If a player has the potential to perform then they will get their chance. Moses, Assaidi and Aspas didn't get. In the way of Sterling. Many of the youth are training with the seniors. That is their opertunity to shine and if we can get some more loan moves like Ibe's we can have players develop whilst not having to hold their hands. A player like Ings who is potentially not the finished article might be an inspiration to the youngsters to work harder and have his attitude.

  18. Brendan Rodgers didn't have the mindset of bringing in Moses on loan from Chelsea to replace Raheem Sterling in the starting XI.The deal was a squad depth signing.
Aspas was bought as a striker a position that Sterling never played at that stage! So why would he stop RS from developing?
The loan to Derby worked very well with Jordan Ibe and hopefully we get the same result with Sheyi Ojo at Wigan. But that doesn't mean every youngster needs to be loaned out to progress.
We held Raheem Sterling's hand and that wasn't detrimental to his development.

  19. Start Balotelli and Sturridge up front today

  20. Balotelli scores from close range again, prolific now

  21. Like 'Alwaysred' said earlier, what's the latest with Brad Smith?

    ReplyDelete
  22. He is talking about Sinclair.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I know but the picture also shows Balotelli scoring. It's something we've not seen too often, let's rejoice in this

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have my doubts Sinclair is good enough and we should be talking the likes of Higuain and Lacazette in the summer not flaming Ings.

    ReplyDelete
  25. What about Wilson or Chirivela getting a run.

  26. BR is staying tra lalalala BR is staying lalalala.

  27. Aspas played as a wide forward. Where Sterling had played for the most part. Moses too for those positions. Sterling proved himself more capable. That is the challenge. They will get a chance they just need to show the biz.
Ings would be an example of what you can do with hard work rather than an insurmountable obstacle.

  28. Is this sarcasm?

  29. Werner's greeting to Rodgers ' Yo Brendan yer doing a great job bud go and take Charlotte on a mini break to Italy the team can take care of its self '

    ReplyDelete
  30. You're right.Aspas played as wide forward a position where Sterling played for the most part.
The list of players you mentioned wasn't exactly tough competition for Raheem Sterling to oust. The garbage collectors disposed of them after one season. They all flopped!
The major difference in this case you compare, is Sterling already had a number of first team opportunities by the time we signed the flop duo Moses and Aspas.I don't know about you but even at the time of purchase I didn't see those signings as a serious threat to holding back Sterling from becoming a quality player.
Jerome Sinclair is very good kid with massive potential looking for a chance.
I don't think Danny Ings is a insurmountable obstacle for Sinclair to hurdle, but he could potentially hold back quick development.
I would only be happy for superstar quality doing that to our talented youngsters.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I understand the point. I am just not sure it will be an issue if the player does have the ability. If we sign Ings and Sinclair never amounts to anything we won't know one way or another but I would be confident that would be his path anyway. If he does break through he will be deserving. I don't know. We will have to see.
I don't see us signing any superstars though.

  32. The underrating of Danny Ings that's going on here is bizarre. He is a top quality striker, it's plain from watching him that he can play at the highest level. If he was playing for the league leaders in France he'd be scoring bags of goals like Lacazette, and you'd all be wetting your pants over him. The more I see of him, the more I like him.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Good to see Sinclair is showing up training with the first team squad. I'd personally have him in instead of Borini!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sell Borini as well while we're at it. If Sinclair is being considered, Fabio better wake up to the fact that younger more talented players are being considered ahead of him for striking/forward roles and he'd be better off plying his trade elsewhere other than Liverpool.
