With Steven Gerrard leaving Anfield at the end of the season, Liverpool will need a new permanent captain, and based on his latest comments, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers appears to have already made a decision.
€18m-rated Jordan Henderson is Liverpool's current vice-captain, and when asked this week about the midfielder's chances of taking over from Gerrard, Rodgers told reporters:
"The idea of putting him [Henderson] in that role was [to have him] learning from a great...so when Steven would move on, we have someone here who, of course, is a different sort of player, but who can offer that wisdom and knowledge throughout his years here"
It certainly sounds as if Henderson - who cost LFC £20m - is the chosen one. Rodgers clearly hints at promotion when Gerrard 'moves on', and given his status as vice-captain, Hendo is the logical choice. Is he the best choice, though?
* To be honest, Skrtel aside (seniority/experience) there's no one in Liverpool's squad who stands out as captain material.
* If he wasn't so injury prone, Sturridge would be a good option, but a captain needs to play most games, and he probably won't.
* Prior to signing, Lovren appeared to be have the makings of a leader, but he hasn't proven that at Liverpool. In August, Jamie Carragher tipped Lovren as a potential candidate: "If Lovren becomes a top player for Liverpool, then in the next few years he will be in contention [to be LFC captain]".
* Is Hendo immune from being usurped in the team? If Rodgers makes him captain, that will strengthen his status as an consistent, automatic starter, but what if the Reds sign a top-class midfielder who outperforms him?
* Hendo has leadership experience from captaining the England U21s, but does he have the aura and ability to emulate Gerrard and lead by example? If Liverpool ever sign any truly world-class stars, will they respect him?
There's also something else to consider: if Rodgers gets sacked at the end of the season, the new manager may not have the same affection for 'outstanding' Henderson, and may want to appoint his own captain.
Gerrard has already given Henderson his personal seal of approval, and in a recent interview, he enthused:
"Jordan epitomises everything a captain is. He leads by example, never gives up and works just as hard without the ball as with it. I would love nothing better than passing over the armband to him when I call it a day. It’ll be a very proud day when I hand it over".
For now, Hendo is a good choice to succeed Gerrard, and if he raises his performance commensurate with the increased responsibility, then it can only be a good thing for Liverpool.

He's an awfully timid player. A milquetoast. Alonso, Agger, Mascherano, Lovren, Carragher, Suarez. These players have a tenacity that Hendo plainly lacks. Lovren is my bet if he regains his place but Rodgers has pretty much turned us into a soft-shell team.
ReplyDeleteI believe Hendo is currently our best candidate for captain, as for world class players coming into the team, if they are midfielders i dont think Hendo is first in line for the chop and "Ideally" if they wont respect our clubs captain then they will need to check their ego and maybe arent they type of player we want here.
ReplyDeleteIf a new manager comes along i think its the same as all other managerial appointments in that most people arent safe so nothing unique here
Sturridge? Are u joking me lol
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, it might be early to say this, but I think Lallana deserves it. To me, he just looks like a captain, and someone who would do a fine job at captaining the squad as well. Then again, he only arrived this summer, but if he had been here for 3 years I wouldn't have had a doubt,
ReplyDeleteLovren (given he regains his confidence and form), Skrtel, and Lallana would other choices, but I think Hendo is currently our best bet. Not necessarily the "right" man to take us forward, but considering who we have right now, he's the closest we have.
ReplyDeleteThis is madness crazy we have lost two off the most important players in liverpool for a long time Suarez and Gerrard . The club knew both are leaving and never found replacements . Suarez best in the world last year golden boot and who do we replace him with , Know Gerrard he is the most important player we have had since king kenny . He is World class ok he might be limited in playing time . but take 10 years off Gerrard what would a stevie Gerrard cost now at age 25 over 100m. You sign pogba 70mil or Isco 30-40 mil there still not stevie Gerrard . Why have we lost two world class players and haven't go world class in return . Question why are we not looking eg pogba to replace Gerrard .
ReplyDeleteA Player like Gerrard would have been beyond the reach of Liverpool had he not been born in the city that is a fact he should have been given a two year extension to his contract even if we weren't going to use him how much did winning the FA cup Champions League and qualifying for the CL last season bring into this club how much have shirt sales and other stuff brought in for a player who never cost us a transfer fee add all that up and he was well worth the reward he was shit on from on high
ReplyDeleteHow can you have Lovren along side Suarez, Alonso, Macherano and Carra? His name looks out of place in the sentence let alone in a comparative capacity. I hope Lovern gets his act together.
ReplyDeleteSomething for the future me thinks. Gerrard will leave in the summer. Might sign on loan for another 6 months before the MLS season begins.
ReplyDeleteSo I would think that he has another year in the captains capacity.
He will not sign for another English club on loan for sure.
He has an air about him, the kind you associate with a vocal organiser, which is exactly what he was brought in for. He shares those qualities with the others on the list, though Alonso is probably the least vocal of that lot. Xabi's was a quieter calm, like that which Gareth Barry brings.
ReplyDeleteHe has an air about him alright.
ReplyDeleteTbe problem is that is a pungent, putrid air redolent of both his performances and a quick dash to the commode after a spicy meal.
I think Hendo is the best option from a bad bunch.
ReplyDeleteI don't fancy him long-term though. He seems to be a player who plays well when things are going well and plays badly whenever the team plays badly. Gerrard was a great captain because he was able to transcend that.
In some ways Hendo is a good poster boy for the Rodgers era though: he works hard and really helps to set the pace and establish our pressing game.
He's a good lad, but I wouldn't follow him once more unto the breach.
I would think Sakho is an option too, he captained PSG on his debut, and has led France in every age division, plus when he's confident he's a good defender
ReplyDeleteJohn is right. We (our owners) never replace the world class players that leave Liverpool. When SG leaves we'll have none. Henderson is a million miles away from even coming close to SG. With the other teams around us bringing in world class players we'll be in bigger trouble next year.
ReplyDeleteLallana would be another option but his Liverpool career is too short. Maybe in a year or two. Henderson is a good choice I think. No, he's not going to be the inspirational legend that Stevie G was but I think perhaps we're setting an unusually high standard. Not every captain has to be a die hard legend who'll cut his own arm off for the team. Arteta is captain at Arsenal, Kaboul at Spurs, Fonte at Southampton ... none of them are particular stand-outs. The captain just has to be a solid player, reasonably assured of regular selection and capable of setting an example on and off the pitch. Henderson ticks all those boxes and he'll grow as a player with the new responsibilities of the role. With Stevie gone he'll feel it's up to him to drive the team and that will only enhance his contribution.
ReplyDeleteThe club can't afford to spend that kind of money, at some point it starts to add up and we fall over the line in terms of FFP rules. Liverpool will spend around 20 million on a decent midfield player, probably in the summer, and that's it.
ReplyDeleteHenderson is the natural successor to Gerrard. All this adulation of Gerrard is nauseating, Gerrard said he has stated his intentions now to avoid speculation throughout the season. However what he has really done is make sure his name is mentioned every week and he becomes the focus of every gamer with his status as a legend reinforced before he goes. Gerrard has an ego bigger than Rodgers and that takes some doing. Gerrard has served Liverpool and we are all thankful, however Liverpool has served Gerrard too and made him a multi millionaire. Henderson and the younger players will step out of the shadow of Gerrard and become more confident in his absence. The fact is Steven Gerrard has been a square peg in a round hole for the last few seasons, this has been to the detriment of the team and to other players who should have played in their natural positions but where shunted out or left on the bench to accommodate him. I respect Gerrard and I thank him for his efforts over the years, however time waits for no man not even Stevie G. So let's stop all this adulation and drama about how we will cope without him. Gerrard has had many poor and average games, he has had many sulks and he's had some shockers, he has been ill disciplined and in recent seasons has been non existent in some games. Liverpool FC will cope without him and I dare say will flourish in his absence.
ReplyDeleteHenderson - NO aura, character, skill, creativity and most of all NO leadership,BR seems to make mistake after mistake,f@#*&k him.
ReplyDeleteNo one in the squad right now have the captain quality.
ReplyDeleteSuarez should have been replaced with Cavani/Martinez,Gerrard should be replaced with Arturo Vidal/Moutinho/Cabaye....but I don't think that will happen..we already saw Suarez was replaced with Balotelli..Now Delph will replace Gerrard
ReplyDeleteSakho should be a candidate too, esp if BR keeps his head straight and keeps him as a starter.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool have spent hundreds of millions on this current squad
ReplyDeleteWhat point are you trying to make?
ReplyDeleteI would also be happy with Lallana getting the armband. He plays like a captain and speaks like a captain to the media. Has the skills to back up the talk, too.
ReplyDeleteSakho's a good shout, assuming he gets the language thing sorted. He'll probably assume a leadership role in the dressing room anyway.
ReplyDeleteLallana and Sakho would be my bets. Lucas, even, if he stays. They're the ones directing traffic on the field (especially when SG is not playing) and usually perform their roles well. I like Henderson but for me his form is too inconsistent to be made captain. Sometimes really good, sometimes invisible, sometimes a bunch of mistakes, always shouting a lot. Still a good player to have around. But we have to replace the SG figure with true quality, someone with great skills, like Pjanic or Gundogan. The owners simply have to come to the party for one world class midfielder (at least). The replacement needn't be captain. But the captain needs to be technically brilliant AND play with passion.
ReplyDeleteI think you neednt worry about us signing a player who will outperform Hendo.
ReplyDeleteHaha also true
ReplyDeleteAgger would have been perfect :-(
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Hendo being the new captain is 'big news'...entirely different to, let's say, a cricket captain.
ReplyDeleteLovren should be sold he has been a disaster no way he should be even in the team Henderson or Sakho the rest are softies.
ReplyDelete...5 years ago.
ReplyDeleteGareth Barry's so calm that he's stopped running completely.
ReplyDeleteGood point. Cricket captaincy demands a lot more.
ReplyDeleteLovren??? One of the worst signings ever made by Liverpool FC.
ReplyDeleteMate I have seen Hendo telling Gerrard off so rather than feelings or air about them actually telling people what to do, being the on field conduit from manager and players and working harder than anyone else puts him in that role for me. Especially when you loom around the team at alternatives.
ReplyDeleteIf Sakho stays fit surely Rodgers will have seen He is one of if not the best CB and with his experience could be vice captain. I know Rodgers loves Skrtel so maybe he will be in with a shout.
ReplyDeleteI don't know mate. We have a bigger squad now. With Suarez, Gerrard and Johnson gone by summer we have lots of money in wages available. We could put our balls on the line in the summer but attracting the right player may be difficult.
ReplyDeleteI just imagined in a Geordie accent "once more into the breach dear friends once more like".
ReplyDeleteAs much as I agree I can't help but think of Stevie's thoughts on Joe Cole.
ReplyDeleteAnd we have now lost a (potential) very important player of the future in Suso, our Pogba I fear. Well done Rodgers you have now stripped the spine and future out of LFC (Reina, Agger, Gerrard and Suarez as well as Suso. Of your job was to destroy our club and out us back 5 years then congratulations of a sterling job
ReplyDeleteUltimately when Stevie leaves, all we can do is appoint the most suitable man for the job from the players in the squad and Hendo is the logical choice from who we have in the squad. He's got a great attitude but whether he can captain a club like Liverpool for any length of time remains to be seen
ReplyDeleteThat was my point too. There really isn't anyone else
ReplyDeleteNot a bad shout as defiantly had the leadership qualities yet still to prove good enough defender to play every week. I've always liked the captain to be central midfielder so unless FSG buy a Pogba or Rues in the summer to replace SG then it has to be Henderson for me
ReplyDeleteLook on the bright side he could have given captaincy to the welsh Xavi
ReplyDeleteWould of got my vote for sure, even though I prefer a captain to come from CM. Not bidding for Alonso in the summer now looks an even worse decision than it did at the time. Also not sure SG would be leaving either
ReplyDeletePeople are mentioning Sakho as a possibility and I understand why with his experience but would you want your captain storming out the ground if he wasn't selected? Sakho may well grow into an LFC captain but he's got a wee bit of maturing to do first I think.
ReplyDeleteWith no obvious, standout leaders in the squad, you turn to the guy with the best attitude, who'll set a good example both on and off the pitch and that is undoubtedly Hendo.
Exactly. Involved in selections and everything. Considering that, maybe I'm being too harsh on Hendo after realising that he won't really need to be issuing instructions every second ball or thinking of tactical nuances the whole game. The only thing left to make it a 'big deal' is the prestige associated with the Liverpool armband, but what measurable difference will that make to whether Hendo can do it or not?
ReplyDeletei dont think Suso has done anything to make us believe he'll be great for us. He looks like one of those potentials that never make it, see Pacheco, Borini, Ngog. He hasn't ever had one really outstanding game for us yet someone like Ibe has already given us hope. I could be wrong though.
ReplyDeleteI completely disagree as from what I have seen Suso is a level or two above all those you have mentioned. BR simply didn't give him a chance something I fear we will regret in time. AC Milan must be laughing they picked him up on a free transfer. This makes a mockery of FSG buying policy
ReplyDeleteI believe BR is still managing under the influence of Morinho, i reckon he must still ring him on occasion and ask what should he do next.
ReplyDeleteHow else can you explain all the insane decisions going on.....lol.
Well said an excellent opinion. yes he has ego and had believed he was not replaceable and BR will bow down to him and let him play every match. It is not about LFC not giving a contract in time
ReplyDeleteit is all about why he was given gaming time by BR. He was shocked. when he was told about it. It was a big slap on his face he could not take it. It is very shameful for him to sit on the bench he has a big lump of ego in him. Nothing got to do with contracts money etc . Gerrard does not want to face the realty he is getting old and need rest. He is under self denial situation. Well good luck to him.
With or without Gerard LFC can win matches with good strikers not with a Captain . What could Gerrard do if Balo was not scoring. Bring in world class strikers we can literally forget about captains and win matches. Likewise for coaches and managers. With good strikers the manager can just sit and watch his players playing and win no need to dramatize .
ReplyDeleteJK are we going to sign Shaquiri or have we lost out on that one too? Andy Grey said something in an article for talk sport, that i believe has some weight, maybe BR can only manage young players and has trouble managing super stars with an ego, if true then do we really have any chance in hell of signing any real world class talent or are we doomed to be signing boys with potential only, cause even boys with potential need leaders to learn from.
ReplyDeleteFrom bad to worse....In Brandon and fsi we don't trust!
ReplyDeleteMistake after mistake, leading by ego and finance only.
Henderson ???? Captaincy ? What they are smoking there at anfield ?
Another simbole of bad manegment after agger, Suarez carageur and now Gerrard....
If we don't have no one to replace sg why let our best player/person to leave ?
Madness at anfield while losing any faith and trust in the leadership
To me, not so much difference. The role of Liverpool captain IMO is under far less scrutiny than other things.
ReplyDeleteWhat if Rodgers picks his wee little pet Joe Allen as captain? Could you imagine. I think I would start following a different sport altogether, tiddlywinks or pingpong maybe:-)
ReplyDeleteI had hope for Suso but he never proved himself, in 5 years he may be good but right now he's just another prospect that didn't live up to his potential
ReplyDeleteGames are not were players get the chance to impress. Just because that's where we see them we assume that's how we know if they are good or not. If Suso was doing enough in training and looking above those other players he would have been given a go. He had a couple of games and looked good in parts but would disapear. Also he has been offered contracts a few times. Time will tell what kind of player he will be but considering AC are not even close to the team they once were and he is going for free it says something that no better team has got him. Let's not forget they signed Taarabt on loan.
ReplyDeleteWho gave gerrard permission to fly to la ?. What happened to everybody is treated same and part of one big group.dont make me laugh.reports are that may be doubtfull for sat lunchtime game.if so i guess he is going to donate this weeks salary to charity.still an employee of lfc .sort your multi million pound future in your own time.just another example of billy big b.... you want more medals in usa.please me sides are killing me.ego ego money money money thats it.pay his contract up now and stay in the us.imagine if balotelli did the same thing and was unavailable for next game.
ReplyDeleteSkrtel some softie!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know too much about the lallana from soton but he is a great player. But I feel like he a Gerrard sort of Captain, one who can "lead in the dressing room" but on the pitch I doubt it. Henderson when he is captain has always pushed the players" on the pitch "and mostly giving instructions, these are things a captain must have, for me I think hendo can be a good captain. I think sakho should be captain because he is a leader within but he won't show it unless he is given responsibility. He is VC for France and I think that's one of the many reasons he succeeds for his national team. But for sakho he must be given responsibility to thrive
ReplyDeleteRodgers ('The Wrecking Ball') gave him permission. Do you not understand he has to be the only 'Mr Big' at LFC. He feels so threatened by Steven Gerrard's presence he will do anything to get him shipped out just in case the supporters or owners would impinge on him to change his mind. Didn't the manager look so happy when he scored his brace against AFC Wimbledon? - NOT!
ReplyDeleteLooks can be deceiving yes
ReplyDeleteLucas Leiva!
ReplyDeleteSkrtel too.
ReplyDeleteThink rogers has gone no matter what.just annoying that there seems to be fault behind scene on most things regarding transfers and contracts.dont blame fsg for any of this.the team behind team continually get it wrong. Gerrard just said la galaxy and him are match made in heaven.well done stevie.doesnt take long does it .suppose 6 million eases pain eh
ReplyDeleteI thought that myself, he looked almost pissed off at him, like how dare you show them you still a good player when ive put your head on the chopping block.
ReplyDeleteI think the way we come across to the media is not how we are behind closed doors at all, I think a lot of players dont get on with the manager.
Who blames them, he plays everyone out of position match after match, Khan to me need sticking with Gerrard for this last year as he looked like the closest thing to a young Gerrard ive seen, making huge bursts through the midfield, power and a hard shot on him, the rough stones are all at the club unfortunately BR hasnt got a clue how to get them to diamonds, case proven by what hes done with Khan ..places him .. in defence
what exactly should he say, oh i cant believe im at this shit hole after my **** bosses at LFC spat every bit of loyalty back into my face? all the big players that stay loyal to their clubs get a huge contract to see out there last years, Lampard and Gerrard have been shat on from huge height's, I personally wanted SG to go to City after the way hes been treated, join up in January and get a PL medal at the end of this season, say what you will but they aren't our direct rivals this season.
ReplyDeleteSuppose you would say the same about Terry Butcher?!
ReplyDeleteWhy Rodgers (and Gerrard) are proposing Henderson as the new LFC captain is beyond belief as he isn't yet really a firmly established player in the team. He plays on the right side of midfield and I'm sure over 75% of his passes go back into the defence instead of advancing the play. He may run a lot but I don't think he brings much to LFC .
The best choice in my view would be Martin Skrtel who is 100% committed. He is also an experienced captain of his national team, Slovalia, currently ranked 21 in world football. He would be my choice.
That's true. If he performs well as a player and the team wins nobody will be saying anything about his captaincy.
ReplyDeleteJust how many times have you been to Anfield this season, Sherief? Not many I suspect otherwise you would have seen how much Hendo talks, shouts, takes control, even when Stevie is next to him. Hendo IS tenacious, particularly if he's allowed to play in his strongest position in the middle of midfield.
ReplyDeleteJay your comment would make perfect sence apart from the one factor you have not taken into account (the Rodgers factor) the man is a baffoon!!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen enough from Suso to know he's a huge talent and to let him go on a free transfer yet again makes our beloved club a laughing stock!!
FFS the last game he played before injury (a pre season friendly I believe) he came off the bench and scored a screamer!! I can understand he could be viewed as a player for courtinios position...but what's wrong with quality back up and competition for places!? The very least LFC should have done is given him some more chances and signed him up for 4 more years....mark my words this will be the one that got away. I predict before the end of this season we will be watching him shining in AC Milan 1st team
He never got the chance to prove himself
ReplyDeleteWhat rubbish.
ReplyDeleteBack 5 years? Where the hell were we 5 years ago? anywhere near 2nd in the PL that's for sure. We finishes 7th i think or 8th that year
So what your saying is Rodgers wouldn't be able to see a quality player in training everyday but you can from the odd game? Rodgers would want the best players on the pitch as it makes him look better. He has made lots of mistakes and perhaps thinks some players are better than they are but to not see a player who could make his job easier? It doesn't really add up. Having said all that Suso has been offered contracts so there are people about who wanted him to stay. But has he fought for his place?
ReplyDeleteIt's not rubbish at all. Take a look at our squad before you spout statistics and league places. Reina and Agger replaced with Loveren and Mignolet. Suarez replaced by Lambert. Out best young talent walking out on a free transfer and Gerrard would rather play in Micky mouse league than have his game time managed in prem.
ReplyDeleteTell me how this squad is improved by these changes!?!?!?!?!?
He never really showed the grit that we need. Sterling did, and look what happened. Points towards attitude methinks
ReplyDeleteJay you seem to have a confidence in Rodgers that many of us don't share!
ReplyDeleteJust watch him excel in Italy!!
I would say he is tenacious. Not the best footballing brain though. He can carry orders out though, and urge others to. What Hendo lacks is guile and the ability to do the unexpected or truly outstanding. Technique is sound though-0 witness his volley from a corner last game. Sometimes he seems at odds what to do on the edge of the area though
ReplyDeleteHe wants and deserves to play. He's not going to sign a contract at LFC if feels Rodgers won't play him
ReplyDeleteExactly WHY does he deserve to play? Is he better than Coutinho? Sterling? Lallana?
ReplyDeleteother than one preseason goal, what exactly has he done to warrant inclusion?
If he's so good, where was the offer from his last loan club , desperate to keep him?
And you were away the day Xabi said he didn't want to return I suppose?
ReplyDeleteOr in in alternative universe where a bid from LFC would outdo one from serial champions, recent CL winners, Pep Guardiola led Bayern Munich?
Never heard such a load of garbage in my life. You three have your Anti Rodgers love-in this thread is deteriorating into people like you, apparently expert body language experts, telling us now what BR likes or doesn't like. Really?
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should replace the jury system with people like you who can tell what someone is thinking just by watching them, or even better, from seeing them on TV
We are not worthy....
I don't think Rodgers is a bafoon like but he certainly could and should have been doing better. Why I am not so certain of Suso is because I have seen every game he has played for us and I am not so sure why so many rate him so highly. He shows things in flashes but so did Shelvey. I just think of he was as good as people seem to think then noone would deny it. Rodgers would have no choice but to play him. If he excells then yes o will change my mind but we will have to wait and see on it.
ReplyDeleteHi .sorry i upset you so much.im only quoting what has been said by relavent people.all management team and senior players keep saying that all treated same.can you think of another player who would be allowed to arrange exit from club the following season ? While in our current situation Remember spurs away? After game gerrard and sterling were on sky.asked sterling if looking forward to linking up with england.then asked gerrard what he would be doing. Quote. Im goin on holiday..true enough 10 days in dubai with missus.3 games into season the captain gets a holiday while the rest a training at melwood. Team bonding eh.again .if im wrong on any of this please put me right.finally.gerrard is fully committed to galaxy.what about lfc sat lunchtime.trip to la on a wed on personal buisness isnt showing commitment to current employers is it
ReplyDeleteBring back Lord Emile Heskey & give him the armband. He's got the swagger. ;)
ReplyDeleteIf you remover early days of Sterling as well as Ibe now you would say the same. Flashes of brilliance then goes missing. But you wouldn't have said happy to see Sterling or Ibe leave on a free? Maybe some are upset (or not in your case) that Suso has left and won't play for LFC others should be upset he was allowed to leave on a free as makes a mockery of FSG recruitment policy. Personally I'm more upset about Suso than I an about Gerrard ( but that more to do with my beliefs that SG is being selfish and throwing a tantrum) and fear this could come back to haunt us...when in a couple of years AC Milan sell him for £20 million plus to a premiership rival.
ReplyDeleteDisappointed we didn't go in for Valdes when our GK situation is a shamles....18 months free signing at Man U when they already have De Gea....
ReplyDeleteBalde, Jackson Martinez, Vietta, Bony. Any of these will be an improvement on what we have but we still need to sort out our keeper, defensive situation and find a replacement for Gerrard and Lucas if he's leaving as well.
I don't believe Lallana, Markovic, Balotelli and Can will become Messi, Neymar, Ibrahimovic and Busquets, In fact they are Lallana, Markovic, Balotelli and Can. What I do believe is that Lallana is a very good player, who would actually be very suited to the Spanish league because he is technically excellent, especially with the ball at close quarters. Markovic in his first season at Benfica, which was last season, was also his first season in European competition, made the Europa League team of the season, despite being 19 at the time. He has the ability to become one of the best in the world. Balotelli has the talent to become one of the best in the world, but not the attitude and has not worked out for us. Can has the ability and physique to be better than Busquets. In fact in Germany he is so highly rated that he is considered to be the heir apparent to Bastian Schweinsteiger, who is far and away a better player than Busquets. As far as Mascherano, Torres and Suarez goes, Mascherano might have played in 27 league matches but most of those were substitute appearances, in fact as defensive midfielder, he was a bench warmer and only got games when he played as centre back, thanks to injuries of Pique and Puyol. Torres scored 82 goals in 214 games for Atletico, which is 38% of his games, whereas for Liverpool, and this is despite his poor form in the back end of his career for Liverpool, scored 65 goals in 102 matches, which is 64% of matches, just short of double the potency. Then scored 20 goals in 110 matches for Chelsea, which is 18% of matches. Suarez, you may say he is playing second fiddle to Messi and Neymar, but the fact is, he has gone from scoring 31 in 33 matches for us to scoring 1 in 9 matches for Barcelona.
ReplyDeleteDavid Moyes aka Football Genius isn't doing too badly at Real Sociedad.
ReplyDelete
