'The Viking' to Anfield? €7m star who loves LFC hints at transfer 'to Liverpool'. Sign?

Despite spending close to £60m on defenders over the last two years, Liverpool's defence remains in disarray, and if Lovren et al continue concede goals at the current rate, the chances of LFC finishing in the top four will quickly disappear. Defensive solidity is a top priority for the Reds right now, and one solution is to bring in yet another central defender. Who, though? What about Lille centre-Simon Kjaer, who seems like he'd welcome a move to Anfield?

Kjaer - nicknamed 'The Viking' - has been linked with Liverpool several times in the past, and when asked about his future this week, Kjaer told reporters:

"My family are Liverpool fans and a move to Liverpool would make my family happy. It is always nice to hear about big clubs being interested. I would choose the club that is the best place for me to play my football"

This follows Kjaer's comments last month, when he admitted that the Premier League is an 'interesting place to play football', and conceded that the French league is a good 'stepping stone' into English football. He further added:

“I will not be moving just for the sake of playing in the Premier League. Everything would have to be just perfect to realise a move to England. I wouldn’t be moving there just for a bigger pay check for example”

Some info about Kjaer:

* Averages 30 games a season.
* 44 apps for the Denmark national team.
* Two-time Danish player of the Year.
* Current contract expires in 2017.

* In his first season at Lille, €7m-rated Kjaer helped the club achieve the best defensive record of any club in Europe: only 26 goals conceded in 38 games, with 21 clean sheets.

* This amazing form has continued this season, with Lille (so far) conceding only 10 goals in 12 games, something of which Kjaer is justifiably proud:

"A lot of people call us the clean-sheet kings and it has been fantastic for me since arriving last summer to be playing my part of the wall we have built"

Overall, since signing for Lille last summer, Kjaer has helped the club keep 27 clean sheets in 55 appearances (almost 50% of games), which is a superb achievement. The Dane clearly has an affinity for Liverpool, and he'd also be comparatively cheap. Worth a bid? How about a swap deal with Mamadou Sakho?

  1. being a good manger is one thing being able to handle a big transfer budget and squad is another and i don't think rogers has the experience of the latter two so adding more player wont help.I think Rogers did well last year partly because we had a smaller squad so there was a sense of unity and togetherness thats been lost this year.

exactly can and markovic and lallana need game time
    to prove themselves
last season aspas and moses all had chances to establish themselves because of lack of personal

this is the only way the investment will work a permanent run in the team

you have a fantastic footballing brain !

  5. Rio Mavuba used to be a pretty decent DM. I wonder how he's doing these days. I think he played at the world cup.
