Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has an admirable history of blooding young players at Anfield, and the latest youngster to benefit from his 'give youth a chance' policy appears to be teenage right-back Trent Arnold.
In his pre-Madrid press conference earlier today, Rodgers noted that the 'entire squad' - including injured players - had travelled to Spain for Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
According to the official LFC site, 16-year old Arnold is not part of the first team squad, but he has trained at the Bernabeu with the first team squad.
Arnold doesn't even have a profile page on the LFC website, but here he is training alongside £31m-rated Raheem Sterling:
Given his age, it's highly unlikely that Arnold will play any part on the Madrid game (or even make the bench), but training alongside first-teamers like Sterling and Gerrard can only be a good thing for his development.
In August, Arnold captained the England U17 team at the Nordic tournament in Denmark, and after the game, he enthused:
“It was my first time captaining my country against Sweden. It was quite nerve-wracking, but I was so honoured to do it and be picked by the manager for such a vital role in the team".
Leadership potential is always a plus, and that's something that's seriously lacking in Liverpool's defence right now. Hopefully, leadership qualities are being prioritised and nurtured at the academy.

We already have 7 right backs
ReplyDeleteGood this is encouraging
ReplyDeletehopefully rodgers is going back to himself
we want the brave but sane rodgers who is not scared of giving youth a chance and wants to win games by death by football
scoring goals exciting fluid play that's what we want to see
no more of this passing skrtel to lovren back to skrtel then 80 yards upfield to the corner flag
Rodgers fsg have shown in baseball that they are not scared of firing so you need to pull your cat together now and find your old self
self together
ReplyDeletedont know where cat came from i dont even like cats
Great experience for the lad
ReplyDeleteIN the daily mirror it says
ReplyDeleterodgesr will rest gerrard and sterling
and play his new signings
i think this is fantastic i really want to see lallana, markovic and can get games
this is what i wanted
a good performance for markovic might transform his career
balotelli as well
i saw an intresting stat henry only scored 2 goals in his first 15 games so no reason why balo still cant be a hit
It's not just the defence its lacking in, its the whole team. Gerrard needs other leaders to ease the burden.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to that left back we got from Spurs?
ReplyDeleteIs that Anthony Le Tallec and Sinama Pongolle? good luck lads the future is bright for kids at Anfield.
