'Call Me': Top Boss confirms he's willing to 'talk about' Liverpool job. Next manager?

Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is currently the bookmakers' favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, and according to the man himself, he's definitely open to managing in the Premier League.

After Liverpool's lamentable Sunday defeat to Crystal Palace, Rodgers conceded that his job is on the line:

"I'm not arrogant enough to think that I will be in a job through anything. You have to win games and you have to get results, especially after how we've been developing as a football club".

Klopp is currently at 6-1 to take over from Rodgers at some point over the next year, and according to The Guardian today:

"Jürgen Klopp is in pole position to take over at Anfield in the event of Rodgers being handed his P45"

When asked last week about the possibility of swapping the Bundesliga for the Premier League, Klopp told reporters:

"Next to Germany, [England] is the only country, I think, where I should work. I know the language a little bit and I need the language for my work, So we will see. If somebody will call me, then we will talk about it.”

This is a clear and unambiguous statement from Klopp, and it'll probably anger his paymasters at Borussia Dortmund as he's basically issued a veiled 'come and get me' plea to the Premier League's top clubs.

Just imagine the uproar if Rodgers (or indeed any Liverpool boss) made the same public statement; there'd be blood on the streets, and any lingering support for the manager would dissipate very quickly.

With Jose Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal safe as houses at Chelsea and Manchester United respectively, Arsenal an Liverpool are arguably the only two realistic Premier League destinations for Klopp.

Like Liverpool, Arsenal are having a comparatively poor season so far, but given the Gunners' unyielding (and deserved) loyalty towards Arsene Wenger, the Reds (theoretically) have a great chance of attracting Klopp to Anfield, and I'm sure John Henry et have taken note of the German's 'call me' statement.

I still maintain that, come hell or high water, FSG should give Rodgers until the end of the season to turn things around. He's earned that small measure of loyalty for guiding the Reds back into the Champions League, and coming within a whisker of winning the title.

Yes, like Houllier in 2002, and Benitez in 2009, Rodgers threw it all away in the summer with his abject performance in the transfer market (a regretful eventuality I predicted several months before the end of last season), but it seems rash and undignified to jut sack a manager mere months after finishing second in the league.

As for Klopp - like Benitez (who won two league titles with Valencia despite the pre-eminence of Barcelona and Real Madrid), he broke Bayern Munich's domination of the Bundesliga, which makes him an enticing candidate to take over at Anfield.

  2. We need to stop moaning and stand together and let Rodgers now he's not walking alone. If we the fans start calling for Brendan's head it will have a knock on effect wich will give players an excuse not to care. If you can't support us when we lose don't support us when we win. Shanks

Dortmund are doing worse than Liverpool this season, so all yous fake liverpool fans calling for Rodgers to be sacked need to get a grip.

Benitez is the most negative defensive boring football tactics manager liverpool have ever had.

Dalglish is 20 years out of date of modern football tactics

Yous complaining liverpool fans need to support the team instead of all the negativity. Its only been 6 months since liverpool were one game away from being champions, so just stop all the whingeing and the support the team. If things are this bad next season yous can start your Rofgers witch hunt, but until then just shut up

  5. i was wondering if by january we are in relegation zone you would still say that we should give him until the end of the season ? Because right now considering our current form and quality there's a possibility that we could be...
Hope he will turns things around but afraid his pride will make him continue with the same team every week, like we saw with the madrid games champion's league is obviously no indication that he has the balls to bench the underperforming (and that's an euphemism) players so we will have to wait for the next league game to see if he's starting to learn anything or just running toward his end.

  6. Sad part is BR is not even trying to change his system. Its very hard to have faith in BR if he keeps repeating the same thing over and over again.

If he can't work under a director of Football, let him resign. I really like him and I don't want him to lose his job but his performance in the transfer market has been awful.

I really like the players klopp targets

immobille top scorer seria A 2013-14

    Mkhitaryan top scorer Ukraine 3012-13

Aubameyang 19 goals in ligue 1

i think rodgers should look to sign players like this from abroad rather then just pl

    Doumbia
    jackson Martinez
these players are of similar ilk to ones mentioned above
i hope rodgers at least pursues them

  9. Better option than Rafa, but I would rather see Rodgers turn things around. I hope for his and the club's sake he can do it.

  10. Won 4 drawn 2 lost 6 In CL played 4 lost 3 won 1- yay go Reds

  11. I personally love Rafa so my opinion is biased in that regard but I also see Klopp as the German Rogers so I’m not too sure how much of a difference he’d make.
I do 100% agree we should stick with Rogers for now because he could turn things around as there's still a lot to play for. What happens if we win both our CL games are get into the next round? What about an Europa final appearance? We're also three wins from lifting the Carling Cup and the FA cup hasn't even begun. Still a lot to play for and I’m sure the tune of a lot of fans would change if we did well in one or both of those competitions
We need to stop all this hate for the team - critisism is welcome but people getting too carried away. Teams go through tough times and the test of a true fan is whether you can walk through the rain with your head held up high :)

  12. I think talk of replacing BR is premature, and way off the mark. Can't see it happening until at least January if there is no significant improvement or more likely in the summer. FSG bought into a long-term plan and, like it or not, BR will have given himself plenty of room for manoeuvre with last years success. I would still like to see Rodger's turn it around and believe that he can; for the time being this remains the more palatable outcome for me.

Tomorrow night would be a good time for BR to show he has balls (for want of a better term, and apologies if that brings up any disturbing mental imagery). To some degree, a return to basics is required. What I would like to see is two up top please, and Lucas in as DM. That either means dropping Gerrard or, if Rodger's can't bear to drop his BFF, playing him in an advanced attacking role. Sterling is currently playing like Andros Townsend; scampering about like a Thomson's Gazelle before running into someone and losing possession; a spell on the bench would do him the world of good.

    ReplyDelete
  13. He has to change things first and play the best players. He needs to make the tough decisions if he wants the job. Otherwise, whatever we have left to play for will vanish.

Here is a list nevergonnacrackthecode verified of strikers that could help Rodgers turn his fortune around :

    Jackson Martinez
    Seydou Doumbia
    Gonzalo Higuain
    Wilfried Bony
    Carlos Bacca
    Maruo Iccardi

    In order of their quality

Doumbia would be the best option in my opinion as he has pace and skill which most strikers lack these days

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agreed.
I have nothing against Rafa. Quite like him, actually. But if we're going to move away from BR - which I, fully knowledgeable of how little my opinion matters, would advise against - I would rather us move forward and not backward.
    And then there's this...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think he should just get another assistant coach. Not necessarily only for defence, but someone experienced that can add useful ideas to the pot. If Jake White could hire Eddie Jones, why can't Rodgers bring an expert in?

    ReplyDelete
  17. can someone enlighten me asto the happening at the end of the cp game please between lovern and gerrard ????

    ReplyDelete
  18. FSG would be stupid to give him more money to try and fix our problems.Rodgers would dig a bigger grave for himself. It should go to the new manager.
Things can turn around very quickly in football. But even if we hit decent form and string a good run of results together.I still don't trust Brendan Rodgers in the transfer market or tactically.Being scared to make big decisions makes him look weak too. That's why i want him replaced.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The problem comes when the players have the appearance of giving up.

At no point during that Palace game or many other games this season have the players as a collective look like they are fighting tooth and nail.

You look at a few teams last season like Sunderland and Palace etc, they were giving it everything they had, they never stopped, never quit.

I have seen nothing like that this season from us

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm not at all happy with our season at all,in fact I'm getting a bit depressed about it all but just firing managers and bringing in who now? Do that we give them 100mill and in two years we find out we need to fire them and it all starts again.
Settle down get behind our team and our manager show them we believe and we will. Stand by them. We finished 2nd last year Suarez did not do that all by himself. All I'm saying is nobody can work with extra pressure put on them lets see how the next 5 or 6 games go

    ReplyDelete
  21. That is what I don't understand. Like you said, last season he was trying different formations, some times during a game, different tactics which was great, this season he seems intent on sticking with something that clearly does not work.

    ReplyDelete
  22. However many games are we going to say.. he can turn it around now?

However many abject performances is it going to take?

The lowest points a team has gotten to qualify for the CL was 67 back in 2006 by Arsenal.

We currently have 14 points after 12 games.

We need to average 2 points per game for the rest of the season just stand a chance to qualify.. not going to happen

    ReplyDelete
  23. -------------No Keeper Needed

    Wisdom-----Ilori--------Coates-------Smith

    Assaidi----Teixeira--------Alberto------Ibe

    ----------------Origi-----Aspas

Sad to say, but this team of our 10 loanees would stand a pretty good chance against the shower of sh!te we've been fielding this season!!

Bring them all back and we might finish in the top half.

    ReplyDelete
  24. To be honest I'd turned away after final whistle

    ReplyDelete
  25. Very reliable site has stated that FSG are actively looking for Rodgers replacement. I cannot see Rodgers lasting past January.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rodgers has dug that hole far to deep. His time is up.

    ReplyDelete
  27. After Ludogorets we have Stoke Leicester Sunderland Utd Arsenal how many points will we take from those playing Gerrard as DM with Johnson Lovren etc and playing the same system BR insists on- should we still support him if we are in drop zone?

    ReplyDelete
  28. In regards to CL places, the one thing currently in our favour is that our main rivals are also struggling to pick up points consistently, meaning a much more condensed table from 3rd place down. Having said that, I'm not going to deny that major improvement is needed, and quickly.

I say that I believe BR can turn things around in hope rather than in a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Fact of the matter is that we were not even this bad in BR's first season and that alone is one big freaking problem especially with all the money that has been spent on new players since he joined the club. It has become apparent that managing a club this big is far too much for him. He also turned us down the first time FSG approached him with a DOF. Could have been different if he accepted working with one above him so that also tells you that BR had eyes bigger than his stomach. Out of his depth.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The midfield is definitely the issue with our defense, but not the individuals, this is all down to the tactical setup. Paul Dalglish gave an excellent assessment of the issue on the AI podcast the other day, explaining why otherwise good defenders and midfielders have looked bad defensively in Rodgers' Liverpool teams. The compactness of our defense away to Real Madrid shows the issue perfectly.

With the way we're currently setting up in the EPL, and really in every game except away to Madrid, Rodgers has his players assigned to defend huge spaces on their own - if we had Nemanja Matic with Usain Bolt's speed he wouldn't look good at DM for us. Teams like Chelsea use their space efficiently...a CB might be asked to do 90% of their defending in a 10x10 meter box, with the other players utilized in similarly sized areas around them. With a setup like that, even an average defender/DM can look good. Rodgers has our players responsible for much larger spaces, which is why they always look out of position and are struggling to cope. I don't rate GJ, but he'd look a lot better if he was playing RB at Chelsea and had Willian helping him effectively.

The other issue for our defense is how we attack. Notice how it never seems like midfielders are showing for the ball? It's being recycled between Gerrard and the CB's far too often, and Joe Allen seems to be the only one dropping back to show for it and try to get it up field, and not often enough. We're attacking too expansively - when your midfielders are closer together, if you lose the ball you can press as a unit and recover it. When they play so far apart and you lose the ball, not only is there no hope of recovering it quickly, it's extremely easy for the opposition to find passes and very quickly bypass the midfield and be up against the defensive line. That's why our defense and Gerrard as a DM look so terrible...they're being asked to cover spaces that are too big for anyone to cover, and they're being put under too much pressure far too often because of how the midfielders are utilizing the space. That pressure makes them uncomfortable, which translates into poor set piece defending - I also assume we're not working on that as much as we should in training.

A defensive coach wouldn't help these issues...the players know how to defend and for the most part are very good defenders, they've shown it in national teams, other teams and in pre-Rodgers years in this team. A defensive coach would work on individual defending, but it wouldn't be up to him to change how the team as a whole uses the space on the pitch. Until Rodgers addresses this issue it won't matter what personnel we have out there, they will leak goals. We also won't score goals without a Sturridge type up top in this system - you can play expansively (in terms of space) with speed up top for quick counters. Without it you need to be more compact, use more short passing, and thus have the players closer together. I believe Rodgers knows all this, but he's clinging onto the success of last year playing in this style and believes he can make it work, but he can't without speed up top. I don't think he deserves the sack, but he sure as heck needs to make the adjustments soon or the season will be gone.

  32. Problem we have is will BR drop the likes of Skrtel, Lovren, Johnson and Gerrard who are like his best mates.

The team without those 4 players should already see improvement in our performances but he will stubbornly persist unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Englightened fan- reborn5:06 pm, November 25, 2014

your problem is you expect too much
if we stay around midtable to january and rodgers brings in one striker we should improve as rodgers is fantastic at working with strikers pace and skill

we can then get a top 7 finish

    ReplyDelete
  34. He has gone back to the picture he sold FSG when he got the job which was possession based football, slow build up play, pass, pass, pass, pass pass and pass again until you can find a gap to score a goal. Plus make sure your defence ends up with more passes than your midfield i.e. play out from the back.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Possession means nothing in football. Arsenal had like 80% possession against Utd. Our players are currently useless with the ball at their feet. They have lost the ability to create anything. Change has to be made otherwise things are going to get real ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I really am not going to bother.

    ReplyDelete
  37. ...yet you did :-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. i just felt like doing it anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'd like to see BR try a Kolo and Lovren partnership. Lovren proved last season he is a good centre back but he may need someone to bark orders at him for a bit just until he sorts whatever is going on in his head right now. He's fine making tackles but I think his problem is he tries to be first to the ball all the time and sometimes you just let them get the ball but pressure them into a situation they can't do anything with the ball. I've never been a big fan of Skrtel. Johnson has a poor first touch and that often leads to the ball getting away from him and less I say about Gerrard the better.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree totally Gerard can't play there I said it all last season as well. Gerard needs to start on the bench and come on fresh leged for last 30mins in an attacking role.
Rodgers knows he has to beat Ludgrats and I cant see why not .Also he needs to bring in some help in a defensive coaching roll and sort out his scouting network . When I heard he was bringing in balotelli I nearly hit the floor he was never gonna fit in to Rodgers style of play which makes me wonder who exactly brought him in?
But there is no point in calling for his head just yet give him time get behind the team give Rodgers time and spawto get it right starting tomorrow hopefully

    ReplyDelete
  41. This pretty much sums up the following three players which are quotes from the most recent Anfield Index site The link will be posted in a reply to this post otherwise the comment will go for moderation.

    Martin Skrtel
Skrtel’s another unfathomable selection. The common denominator in Liverpool’s worst defences since 1992/93, Skrtel is a centre-half that just does not cover. Fine, he can do his own part well enough at times, but covering is a huge part of a centre-back’s game, and quite frankly if you don’t do it you’re only half a player. I’ve mentioned before in my musings that LFC concede two a game when Skrtel plays – not only is that thoroughly unacceptable, but it also shows no sign whatsoever of improving.

    Glen Johnson
Why else do you play Glen Johnson out of position, when you have Alberto Moreno ready to go? Johnson shouldn’t be near the team, he has no passion; he plays by the numbers, putting in the bare minimum and even then the holes in his game are glaring – if you trust him Brendan, we’ve got big issues.

    Steven Gerrard
Gerrard as a deep lying playmaker worked last year because Liverpool had so much going forward, other teams were more worried about defending than pressing Gerrard. The situation has flipped 180 degrees now, and Gerrard is a sitting duck as the defensive midfielder. Continually selecting Gerrard in that position is neither helping the team, nor the player; we have others who can play the role better. The whole thing is an accident which never waits long to happen.

    Yet Rodgers persists :-o

  45. See what you mean defo too many expletives would've been inserted- very eloquently put

    ReplyDelete
  46. If you have a chance to read Garry Neville's take on Skysports you definitely should because he hits the nail on the head.
My take on it is that last season BR convinced the entire team to press high and win the midfield battle which create more chances up front and negated the number of consistant attacks on our defense. But this season, to your point, no-one wants to fight for the cause and we're being exposed for how average our collective team is.
It's like my Sunday league team, we've won the whole thing before because we pressed hard and won the midfield battles which put the other teams off rhythm. It was what made our team work and when we didn't press, we would be beaten soundly because we're not as skilled as the other teams.
I believe it's more of a mental thing that's holding LFC back - I dont care that our players aren't the best because they've shown last season they can compete by working their socks off every game. We need to get that back to playing that way and if he could do it once, you have to believe BR can do it again right?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Unfortunately, he isn't sensational. He is very ordinary indeed. I said the same about Markovic and LFC fans rounded on me but I had seen him play and they almost certainly hadn't. Origi will make about as much difference as Iago Aspas. Totally lightweight and his goals record is frankly poor. In short, a typical Rodgers signing. If he was any good a top team would have bought him.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Good God! What on earth is Lucas going to contribute? What has he ever contributed? He should have been shipped out years ago.

This will turn out to be the best decision in over past few decades.
Klopp is a class manager. I have no doubt he'll turnaround the fortunes of this great great club , bringing back the glory days.

What I expected and I sure many other fans did was a top 4 finish.

After last season and the amount of money that has been spent I at very very least expect us to be challenging for top 4.

At the moment we will be lucky to finish in the top half.

  59. I never trusted him as a manager, not even during the last season when everyone else was singing praises to his name.

And believe me sooner than later he is going to get busted big time.
He need years of more coaching experience before he can think of managing a club of LFC's stature.
    This guy is pure myth.
I reiterate that it was Suarez's phenomenal form that brought LFC to second spot.
All the fans should never forget Suarez for his contribution. He is indeed an LFC's legend.

no other top teams needs a top striker

Arsenal- don't know how to fit giroud and welbeck
    chelsea - costa is there
man city - they ahve augero and dzeko, dzeko and martinez are very similar
    man utd- no explanation needed
    barcaloena- obviously messi and suarze
real madrid - not tehir sort of player and benzema is better
bayern- lewondowski and martinez have similar styles
psg- they have ibrahimovic and cavani
atheletico and dourtmount ahve made big investments on strikers as well

lambert - he is overweight and is slow as a snail
balotelli- he admitted himself he aint a striker
    borini- has big club syndrome

sturridge got plenty of service first three games

martinez might not be suarez but he makes good runs gets into good positions worries defenders
    and scores goals

The dutch league is a step above the Scottish league for a start, Ajax have more challengers than Celtic do even when rangers are there, and as for strachan and o'Neill, they have done as good if not better than Rodgers done at Swansea with their respective clubs, Tony Mowbray was terrible at Celtic so that isn't a good comparison, De boer is a good manager and has grown up with the right principles in football

  87. says who ...he could come and flop and we would still concede ...the chances of any striker coming and weighing in with as many goals as sturridge and suraez is impossible i repeat impossible

  89. I never said the end of the season .people are calling for his head right now and have given him an ultimatum win tomorrow night or out the door. If by Mid December we are still going south then yes good bye Brendan but at least have someone lined up someone who will win thing's but who?

  90. Is that a knowing wink or a hopeful wink?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Type of player that (might) replace Suarez, hes prolific, quick, can run at defenders and in his prime. If we somehow manage to sign him...i for one would be happy, imo this guy is the real deal and it would be sincerely shocking if he did not perform for LFC. Rodgers needs to stop signing for the future and bring players like Martinez to LFC, players in their prime and world class.

    ReplyDelete
  92. thats okay because he wants to come to us ....we work a two tier loyalty system at Liverpool suarez was vilified last year for doing similar

    ReplyDelete
  93. Nah. We need an up-and-coming talent...one for the future. We don't have enough of those.

    ReplyDelete

But I'd be perfectly content with Martinez. Should have had him 2 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  114. The way Lovren fell down when Bolasie flicked the ball over his head was comical. He seemed to fall down in stages. Like I've been saying for years, LFC don't do pace & power. We made Bolasie look like Drogba! I guess with tripe we've got even Titus Bramble would look like Messi against us!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Not at all. Liverpool Rumours.

    ReplyDelete
  116. In fairness he only joined Porto 2 years ago. Not sure we have signed to many players from the Mexican League.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Reus either going to Bayern or Madrid. We can but only dream.

Another issue is that sacking Rodgers is going to cost the club a hefty sum of money and then bringing in replacement even more money.

We ain't signing anymore players this season.

Please do not suggest we build like them
we have to develop our own identity that teams will try and replicate
its kinda with the diamond with two top strikers and hard working midfielders pity it was cut short

  120. The strangest thing for me is to see how healthy Martin Kelly is looking. He is playing regularly for them whereas he just could not stay fit for us. We must have been doing something wrong and still cannot get over the fact that we let him go. Kelly made our defenders look like amateurs.

    Based on one game?.
kelly was the worst of their defenders
he was fantastic prior to his injury , liverpool is not a club where we can wait for people to be fit they ahve to be raring to go
flanagan was better then him last season the few chances kelly had vs bourmouth in fa cup and sub appearance he looked like ricky lambert so off tune.

You are finding every possible excuse of attacking rodgers regime.

and never judge on one game man if lfc did like you we would sign diame for 40m

    ReplyDelete
  127. Klopp will also help bring in a certain chap called Reus

    ReplyDelete

  130. FSG will not sign nobody in january according to what Mr BR told us today.
Maybe they are not so dissatisfied with Mr BR and 12th position.
I really can not understand their strategy.

    ReplyDelete
  131. This is a lost season for us and maybe FSG have already accepted that.My view is that they are clever people and they prefer to give the money to our next manager in next May.

    ReplyDelete
  132. We had someone with the South American mentality/determination we're now lacking. If only he were still here.

    Fabio Aurelio... we miss you

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yea he's still excellent, thought he was the best player on the pitch tonight although he showed that even the best are capable of making a sloppy pass that leads to a goal.
Bayern's control of the majority of that game with ten men was very impressive even if it ultimately ended in defeat

    ReplyDelete
  134. He could've kept Sturridge company in the treatment room. Another perennially injured player

    ReplyDelete
  136. We will create another Kwarme if we're not careful. A good defender whos confidence is shot to pieces because of the crap he has to play alongside. At the moment BR has learned nothing from Rafa or Houllier's decline ironically both fell on their sword the season after finishing second after spending a fortune on players who's name I cant now remember.

    ReplyDelete
  137. You set up the petition and I'll sign it :)

    ReplyDelete
  138. Agreed BR has done an Arsene Wenger in signing some of the didiest and weakest central midfielders and wingers in the league......... and I hear he's after Pedro...... Crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I really hope we build this team from the foundations upwards.

someone said on the radio yesterday "Liverpool need to improve in three areas................DEFENSE...........MIDFIELD and ATTACK" :D

    ReplyDelete
  140. This guy gets fantastic service for most of his goals though, I'm sure our strikers would score a lot more if they were given the same service he was given. He's a good striker but I'd rather we spent 38 million on a good cdm.

    ReplyDelete
  141. He doesn't need to go, why the hell is everyone so goddamn knee-jerk around here? He was boss even last season! He needs to be played less, for sure, but there's no way he should leave the club. Play him for the last 30-45 minutes of games in a number 10 role, when legs are starting to tire, and his through balls will be much, much more effective than Coutinho's have been. We know he can still pull off the ridiculous, look at his assist last season, I think it was against Everton? Class is permanent and Gerrard oozes it, he just doesn't have the legs to be the lone DM. In a double pivot system, I'd play him as one of the DM's every game, similar to Pirlo at Juve, but as a lone DM he just can't keep up.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Classic Championship mentality. Change Boss = Win More.
Who do you suggest? Klopp, who currently sits in the relegation zone? Benitez, who most couldn't wait to see the back of?

    ReplyDelete
  143. What, a player who is over 30, has no pace, thrives on long passing, especially lobbed passes to the wings, has an eye for a long shot, that type of player would be a perfect midfielder for us. Wait...

    ReplyDelete
  144. Yeah, and he categorically won't be signing Balotelli....

    ReplyDelete
  145. Did he say he wont be signing anyone? Sorry if I've missed the article, but I think he said something along the lines of 'we aren't focused on the transfer window, we are just focusing on the next game', which IMO is very different from not signing anyone. It just means that he wont be drawn into talking about it.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I always put it like this, If we were to sign someone who played at the level Gerrard has been every week since the start of the season would he start every week? The sensible answer has to be a resounding no. Gerrard is playing no better than Poulsen, Diao, Leonhardsen, Lucas in his early days, Jean Michel Ferri, Igor Biscan or Bruno Cheyrou so I believe it is safe to assume he is in the team for name and past glories alone.

I take your point about playing him as sub but all teams have to do is put a marker on him like they do now and he'll be neutralised. BR cannot bring himself to bring the curtain down on SG as a starter OR cant drop the clubs Icon whilst the club is doing badly because a large section of Liverpool supporters, as they did with Kenny and Carra show them selves to be more Icon supporter than Liverpool supporter. At the moment Lucas offers more and should play completely and utterly on merit if the Real Madrid performance against the worlds best side is anything to go by.

If Gerrard gets dropped it will only be the second time in his career. The last time was under Houllier for 5-6 games. He came back stronger and more focused.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I don't see BR surviving this time - FSG has given him enough money. I think, Rogers was ultimately found out as a "small club" manager. His football philosophy is fine & I think, after few more years, he 'll be a top notch Manager, but at the moment he couldn't come out of low budget mentality. FSG gave him enough this year, but instead to going for a couple of marque signings, BR acted as a small club, limited budget Manager - went for value for money squad player. Also, I don't think, he has the guts to handle players like Di Maria, Falco or Reus.

I don't back BR to survive Jan window - may be he 'll be in charge till end, but internally, FSG 'll settle the issue & appoint someone. Klopp is probably the best choice, as neither Ancellotti or Deschamps 'll not leave their club. De Borr may be, or Rene Girard, but I don't think FSG 'll go back to Rafa, neither they 'll appoint someone as young as Roberto Martinez. Koemann is surprising me, but he might not leave after such a bright start in new project.

Whoever, I hope it's not another Brit - no offence, but British Football Management is finished.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Gerrards running has dropped significantly.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/15117/9570579/liverpool-captain-steven-gerrards-form-at-34-sees-him-making-fewer-goals-tackles-interceptions-and-runs

    ReplyDelete
  149. This is what makes me so desperate - BR's technical limitation is exposed. I am sure, he is clueless in what's going on.

    ReplyDelete
  150. We seriously need a Striker in playing condition. Sturiddge is good, but unfit most of the times. Lambert is wastage of a playing spot. God knows what happened to Balotelli ( He never looked like scoring ). And Rodgers is determined of not giving Borini enough playtime.
Conclusion: WE NEED A STRIKER. Martinez/Higuain
And in my opinion Gerrard is almost finished. ( I have to say this with a heavy heart )
We should get one defensive midfielder as well. Carvalho seems a good option. But Song can serve the purpose.
And for gods sake get us a good goal keeper. Though, Mignolet is superb in some occasion, but he can not be relied. Ochua can be a good option.

In addition, if we can get REUS, that will be a dream team.

    Ochua

    Manquillo Skrtel Lovren/Toure Moreno

    Carvalho/Song

    Reus Lallana

    Sterling

    Martinez/Higuain Sturiddge

  154. Gerrard part is so obvious. Yet he persists. And he tried him in advance role for a part of match, and it worked! Ubelievable!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Agree 100%, RS and PC are showing their inexperience right now, getting the ball forward and creativity is the problem, Reus is the answer.

    ReplyDelete
  156. jackson martinez would be great deal but we shouldn't go beyond 30m for him

    ReplyDelete
  157. If liverpool don't wrap this deal up early we'll get outbid at the last minute. I hope whoever is negotiating this deal does so quickly. Liverpool now have a track record of dragging their heels on transfers. If we want him negotiate and if the asking price keeps escalating drop it and move on. We need someone in who an close these deals ins timely fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  158. We were linked with Martinez for similar money in the summer. If FSG/TransferCommittee/BrennyRodgy had pulled the finger out early enough, they could have signed him and saved the Balotelli money. Sadly though, they scrimped on the whole thing and they're paying the price for it now.

Part of me is enjoying watching Liverpool not learning our lessons. Don't get me wrong - I love the club - but this version of the club is naive, and it certainly doesn't represent anything that I can personally relate to. So why should I pretend to just blindly love that side of it? It's like watching your kid struggle with a serious drug problem - you still love the kid, but you hate the problem. And unless you've been there yourself, you just can't relate to it in any way. In fact, you alternate between finding the whole situation pathetic and being sympathetic.

The thing with this situation however is that we've been living with stupidity and naivety for so long that it's actually become laughable. There has always been some level of incompetence at the club over the course of the last 25 years, but surely any situation that involves similarly unsuitable spending to 'that' Kenny Dalglish summer of madness is worthy to be pointed at as particularly hilarious. I believe that we've actually signed good players who we'll start to see the best from in 3 years time, but for what Brendan is stubbornly trying to do now, he's misusing them. Hence, they're currently unsuitable.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Can't change the manager just yet. Let give him some more time. The players need to take some responsibility.
I do think that we need a defensive coach as part of our setup. It is evident that we need better defence coaching. So why wait for things to get this bad. Sort it Brendan. We had a great defensive 2 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  160. The difference is that Alonso plays with an actual defensive midfielder, and he is not averse to just 'giving and going' for long periods of the match.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I know,....only 9 on loan, couple more and we could loan out our whole "team for the future" aha.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Is your number still 123456...alrighty then. If "mr glass" got another 20+ goals you never know, the sun could come out aha.

    ReplyDelete
  163. No way in world he is worth 38mil
Need signings like Pogba 60mil replace gerrard Reus 30mil ISCO 30mil replace anyone in midfield

    ReplyDelete
  164. They thing is that the fans don't have any control over the money . All we should be concerned about is about demanding the best players...I feel that getting dupped in to the financial aspects has allowed certain standards to slip.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Your Dribbling Allen 14mil Aspas 9mil Assadi 3mil markovic 20mil borini 14 mil Lovern 20mil alberto 8mil Sakho 18mil Mingolet 9 mil Which one of these 115mil worth of players is great Buy for Future and is money well spent ????
Pogba Isco Reus world class and would cost around same of the money wasted .

    ReplyDelete
  166. Why is a "world-class sensation" like Martinez on reputedly euro 5k a week with no other bidders??

    ReplyDelete
  167. i personally don't think martinez is the answer i would go for Petr Cech and Yohan Cabaye or Sjneider and in Gerrards place put Lucas till summer drop Gerrard to the bench and give our defence proper protection and the goals will come gerrard does not give us good balance in defence or attack and he seems to me a bigger problem to Lfc at the moment!! we are carrying him gone are the days were he carried LFC through games

    ReplyDelete
  168. I think I just read that Rodgers confirmed he will not be signing any more players in January. Another tell tale sign he's got one foot out the door.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I'm not against moving backward, but this was a glorious moment, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Blind bet...Martinez any time

    ReplyDelete
  172. Fine, but where is our DM?

    ReplyDelete
  173. I agree he deserves until the end of the season (unless he loses every game up to Jan) to prove that he can turn things around. Although his apparant lack to motivate players, arrogant tactical decisions and failure in the transfer market would justify bringing in Klopp when the time comes - even though BVB are not performing.

    ReplyDelete
  174. veryreliable.com

    ReplyDelete
  175. BR is unable and unwilling to walk with us all, it appears he actually wants to walk alone. Why the hell does he go on playing a lone striker, why does he keep ignoring creative sparks like Suso in a team lacking that spark. He will walk alone

If we complain about Rogers that doesnt mean we are not supporting the team-we are speaking out our concerns. If that cant be done then I dont know?

    ReplyDelete
  176. Well. now that that game was played last night, what do you have to say in BR's defence? He still needs more time? To take us further down and make things more difficult for Klopp/Benitez or whoever is coming up after him?

    ReplyDelete
  177. With BR we moved seven steps forward then 4 more steps backwards. This season's debacle is the four steps back from KK's last season. 2013-14 (last season ) was the seven forward, the current one has erased all that and more to Hodgsonic level

    ReplyDelete
  178. I can't understand why Gerard stayed on the pitch after 60 mins he was shattered Rodgers took off the only outlet we had in sterling. Gerard off Borini on Sterling off Lallana on and to shore up defence khan on Lambert off after 60 mins would have made more sense to me. That last night was exactly what Rafa used to do !!! Yet you calling for him to come back?? Dortmund were hammered by Arsenal lad night as well and Klopp is not leaving there until the summer. RAFA had three good seasons then we played two years in our own Half.
I'm not delighted with that game last night but Rodgers is there now under a lot of pressure and I think he panicked as Larwo said last year he would have put on an extra attacker and went for the juggler but he tried to do a Rafa on it and tried to shut up shop with 20 mins to go.
We are still in CL for now let him get on with things is all I'm saying

    ReplyDelete
  179. Was he fantastic in his first season with the strikers ? Finished 7th with no europe, knocked out of the cups !! I can think of other words to describe every abject performance so far this season. Spurs away the only time the team have looked anything like last season. Morale as low as it can go, players don't trust him as he bad mouths them in public. LFC constantly linked to quality players but we have accumulated everyone else's dross.
