Done Deal? BR close to signing 'terrific' £9m 'LFC fan' who crushed Man Utd

Liverpool are reportedly close to sealing a deal for MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli, who is also being pursued by Manchester United and Arsenal.

In October, the Daily Express claimed that:

* Brendan Rodgers had 'prioritised' the signing of 18-year old Alli.

* Liverpool negotiated a £9m deal for the youngster (including add-ons).

According to The Mirror today:

"Liverpool are confident they will finally snap up Dele Alli in January.

"[LFC] will then loan him straight back to MK Dons. The midfielder has been pursued for a year"

Last season, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers made a personal scouting trip to watch Alli in action, and in a recent interview, the youngster dropped a very strong hint that he's open to playing for LFC. He enthused:

"I am actually a Liverpool fan and Gerrard is someone I look up to massively. Gerrard was a big influence on why I support Liverpool"

With 7 goals/3 assists in 18 appearances, Alli is in great form this season, and played a major role in the Dons' recent 4-0 League Cup annihilation of Manchester United. His boss, Karl Robinson, endlessly fawns over the 'sensational' midfielder, Brendan Rodgers style, and in October, he gushed:

"He [Alli] is the most gifted youngster I've ever seen. He's on another planet. He’s a terrific individual, and to be a top player you have to conduct yourself in the right way and he certainly does that"

Like Rodgers, Robinson seems prone to effusive, overwrought praise, and he regularly heaps exaggerated praise on Alli. This may be counter-productive, though; Robinson claims he wants to keep the youngster at the club, but if he keeps fawning over him, top teams are sure take note, but that seems to be Robinson's plan. Indeed, in September, he told the BBC:

"It is about us getting what we deserve. We know his [Alli's] current market value. What we can sell him for could keep our academy going for a long time to come."

Some info about the youngster:

* 6'2
* 15 goals/7 assists in 62 apps for MK Dons so far.
* Made his debut at age 16 in 2012.
* 9 apps for the England U17 side.
* Top scorer for the U18s last season with 17-goals.
* Signed a three-year professional deal in the summer of 2013.
* 10 yellow cards in 55 apps.
* Personal motto: "Don't practise until you get it right. Practise until you can't get it wrong".

Liverpool are bursting at the seams with young talent, but the club lacks - even in the youth ranks - big, tall, combative midfield players, so Alli will clearly bring something different to the table.

Additionally, in an age of grossly inflated transfer fees for British players (Luke Shaw, anyone?) £9m is a comparatively reasonable transfer fee.

  7. looks a decent player but unformately we cant take a risk on these kind of players because we wasted money on average overpr overpriced players like Markovic, Lovren, Lallana, Balotelli and Lambert. its just unheard of, how can you sign Lambert and not Eto'o, and Balotelli and not Remy? its unbeleivable, the club would have saved money(£12M) as Remy was £8M and Eto'o was free. Balotelli and Lambert were £20M and have done nothing. How Lovren hasnt been slated yet by the media is beyond me. he had a shocker at chelsea again and has been poor every game. no leadership, poor defending and rubbish long passing. £20m for a very poor player. our whole squad is rubbish tbh, bar Coutinho, Sterling, Lallana who all play best down the middle, and Sturridge who is always injured. i dont even want go on all day because i can, blottom line Brendan Rodgers a dillusional and doesnt identify what we need, well io do and this our only hope.

sign Benteke from Aston Villa ffor £20M. hes a proven striker on his way to being world class. Marcos Reus. were crying out loud for a world class winger. £35M. Diame £10M. Serge Aurier £10M.

  8. Should I stop following you then?

  9. good ideas ! let put the hope of our midfield on a 18 yo, it is working brilliantly with our attack and sterling.
Proven players should be the priority if Rodgers get money to spend.

  10. Didn't realize he was sucked by Reading and Watford. I knew a couple of gents named Reading and Watford...big into vampires...shaved their teeth into fangs and liked to hiss at rays of sunshine. Hope you're not talking about them. Ouch.

  11. looks a good prospect as does Patrick Roberts. In my opinion Roberts is better so if we're not signing both someone may have already beaten us to the better of the two.

More good news: Statistics show that Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren is the most error-prone defender in the Premier League.......SHOCK!

guess who else makes the list.......

  12. or if not Benteke, then Bony. both good players who can perform Costa like stats at Liverpool with the right support. thing is though i really like Benteke as he is quick, skillful, younger and very confident. and he strikes fear into defenders in the PL. and if we cant get reus try for Pedro, if we cant get him Lorenzo Insigne or Yarmolenko

    ReplyDelete
  13. ouch seing that stats hurts.. it really does

  14. i know changing managers dont bring success, but BR is dillusional. loves to live on his past success, always saying 'we need to get back to the level in the past 18months' and 'we need time to gel' and 'were missing Suarez and Sturridge. you do realize you spent £120M? thats ridiculous money. they gave him money to build a team and the future does not look bright, nor does the present. so in that case he has to go unless we get Marcos Reus or Pedro, Benteke or Bony, Diame and Serge Aurier. who will improve our squad in the areas we are very weak

if we could line up like this for PL matches i will be happy, Sturridge fit or not

    ---------------------------------Mingolet
    Aurier---------------Toure---------------Sakho----------Moreno
    ---------------------Emre Can------------Diame
    -----Coutinho----------------Sterling---------------Reus
    --------------------------------Benteke

    with studge fit,

    ---------------------------------Mingolet
    Aurier------------------Toure-------------Sakho----------------Moreno
    -----------------------Emre Can------------Diame
    -------Sterling------------------------------------------Reus
    ---------------------Sturridge--------------Benteke

  15. we should try get Ronald Koeman or Frank De Boer. or Jurgen Klopp or Benficas manager or Shakthar Donetsk manager. ive seen all these managers single handledly build a 25 man squad of top players on a much smaller budget than Rodgers. £75M would get us Reus, Benteke, Aurier and Diame. in Summer would have been less as Diame cost £3.5M. anyways we get those 4 in and try go on a unbeaten run from january to get top 4 and go again next season with a new coach.

  16. Jurgen Klopp is currently in a relegation battle... I don't think he is the manager to change Liverpools hopes.
Clearly Klopp was being helped by his best players, now they've gone, they are struggling.
I'm really cautious about replacing a manager. Look at Utd.
Van Gaal on paper is miles better than Moyes, but even he is doing a worse job.

  17. So "big", so "tall", so "gifted", yet, despite our current form, we are immediately prepared to loan him back to MK Dons.

Does anyone else notice something wrong with this picture?

    ReplyDelete
  18. He didn't get sacked from Reading and Watford. Left Watford for Reading and was sacked by Reading only. This was after about six months. So worth checking these facts before stating that they are facts as that just seems silly when your so wrong. Don't worry about the English and spelling English is my first language and my posts are full of these mistakes. But my facts are facts.

  19. Would the other be the same one who is in there every year?

    ReplyDelete
  20. the best players which he signed and raised. they may be struggling in the league but they are not to be doubted and unlike us are top of there group in CL. they may be in relegation but 1 he lost Lewadowski for free. we got 75m for suarez and bought crap

    ReplyDelete
  21. Diame has just moved and is very very very inconsistent. Rues is a pipe dream but we could do worse than the others. My main worry about Benteke is he is as injury prone as Sturridge or near enough.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Absolutely Will. Koaman is a joke name to be thrown in the hat too. Quite well respected but do we honestly believe that it is him being this tremendous manager that has got this working? He has been quite fortunate that all new players have clicked instantly. Whenever anyone with any knowledge talks about this they agree they are surprised. They are looking like more than the some of their parts right now but let's see how the season finished before we start fellating anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  23. And bringing in an 18 year old in to a struggling side to save our season? That picture better?

    ReplyDelete
  24. No, I can't say it is.

My biggest fear is that the owners won't invest much more into the club in January. After all the spent this past summer.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah just what we need another Future Prospect who will hep us stay Mid-Table.........we need someone like Cabaye this jan....... BR shouldnt be given money to spend on these future aspects

    ReplyDelete
  26. It really is saying something about the inflated prices of English players. This guy has only 1 full season of League 1 football behind him and £9 million is considered comparatively reasonable. Unbelievable really.

    ReplyDelete
  27. What is the point of this signing exactly? We have so many new players and youngster who are not getting a chance and when we desperately need proven quality, we are going in for a player with no experience. If this happens, I would be hugely disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Our transfer committee and BR are a joke.........I mean how long are we going to buy these kids only to loan them back and then eventually sell them for less than half their price

    ReplyDelete
  29. Like I said BR shouldnt be given money to spend on more squad/young players......

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would have to disagree over Klopp. Remember, Lewandowski almost joined Blackburn a few seasons ago an he built him to be a world star. Players like Gotze and Gundogan owe their careers to him. Dortmund have been drained out by Bayern and while we have lost a solitary best player, they lost multiple and to their biggest rivals. Add to that their money problems and their injury toll, Klopp has done an absolutely outstanding job keeping them in the Champions League.

    ReplyDelete
  31. And to make it worse, he is scapegoated in the media while the centre backs get a free ride. He has been our best defender by far with Manquillo and they are the ones being blamed by the media.

Pooohh finally a story about delle ali! Been waiting for that in ages. Thanks man, well done, just keep it up!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would normally agree with that but in the case I think it would be worth it but only if we loaned him back until the end of this season. This guy does look a bit special. He's big, strong, a powerful runner, he has a shoot on him. I reckon he could make the 1st team reasonably quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good advice for us all thanks......I do try to keep it up you know but a sressfull job, money worries etc. etc.

  35. Rediculous mate isn't it. Part of that is because he came from abroad and is new and like some close by have this agenda about how much money has been "wasted" but lot's of them would have backed Lovren from last year. How Skrtel escapes I will never know.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't worry mate it happens to loads of fellas. Not me like I open doors with mine.

    ReplyDelete
  37. He still has a squad much better than most of that league though.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Just watch out for those sliding ones......

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am hoping, and it is a massive hope, that our net spend was essentially what we spend in most seasons or not much more yet we should have more money if the CL money does eventually come in. Hope. Just hear Morgan Freeman's voice "Hope".

  40. Mingolet in goal? The team won't win a thing.

  42. I think I am going to enjoy not seeing us lose another match this weekend :-o

    ReplyDelete
  43. We have made enough signings this season and spent £120m along the way. No more money will be made available, that is for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Can't see us winning though either

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh it's you. I thought it was the DSS

  46. Hate International breaks but this is one that I actually do not mind especially when our football is has been utterly sh!te.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Some will say another weekend and no points we'd better sack BR

    ReplyDelete
  48. We're there too mate. Compiling evidence....

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree. Moreno probably looks the most promising of all our summer signings but he's still young and requires guidance. Unfortunately our defence is having an absolute crisis of confidence at the moment and there's no steady hand to guide him

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes I know how you must feel. it is always nice when something you've been hoping for turns up and then is even better than you ever could have hoped for in your wildest dreams

    ReplyDelete
  51. Like who, ???

  52. Just read Odegaard coming on trial X-mas time

  53. Rogers got us into champs league from being 5 years in the wilderness. The sign of a bit a of a rough patch and fans call for his head. (shaking head) pun intended.

    ReplyDelete
  54. When Klopp joined, Dortmund had finished 13th in a league of 18 teams and now they are one of the European powerhouses. He is a brilliant coach.

    ReplyDelete
  55. No doubt mate. I agree he is but they are doing badly in the league right now and he should shoulder some blame. They have lost great players but signed new ones and like I say their squad is still currently better than the placing suggests. I don't doubt his credentials like I don't doubt Wenger's, Van Gaal's or to a lesser extent Martinez and Pochitino. But like Rodgers and Klopp all are struggling this year. World cup hangover?

I had a theory that I haven't really checked out so much but it basically goes that there is a weapons race in football (like in evolution) There will be adaptations by teams and managers made so as to get results which swings the way the game is played by most teams in one way or another. We all know there have been periods were the most defensive teams are the most successful and the most attractive teams. I think perhaps one leads to the other and we are on the verge of the defensive rather than attacking. I think managers look to other managers like Mourinho and see how he plays against top sides (or others that are successful at it) and copy that strategy. More teams will be using these tactics against Liverpool this season. So to Arsenal, CIty etc. That is why they are all struggling. The managers have to find ways around these tactics that are being used against them. Mourinho is doing so well because he is the king of these tactics and knows what ways to utilise his better players to win these games. Purists like Wenger and to some degree Rodgers (and perhaps Klopp) suffer most as they are play a certain way rather than bank on having much superior players will do the job. despite Rodgers persisting largely with the same players and systems I can see he is trying stuff out. What doesn't help this at all is an error prone defence. Especially when there is less time to prepare for games and his hubris won't allow him to get a defensive coach in to take some of the burden. I have lost my point and started rambling. Soz.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Klopp performs well with star players, and is rightly applauded for his efforts. Then looses his best players, and is now struggling, but is still a great manager?
Rodgers is in arguably a similar position. He lost Suarez, and hasn't had Sturridge basically all season.
So if Klopp is good enough then so is Rodgers. If Rodgers isn't good enough then neither is Klopp.
