Coutinho-killer? - LFC scout £18m Brazilian sensation who's wanted by 'many teams'

Liverpool are reportedly considering a transfer move for Brazilian attacker Anderson Talisca, who is also wanted by Arsenal.

According to The Mirror this week:

* Arsenal and Liverpool have scouted Talisca, and both teams had reps at Benfica's 4-0 victory Arouca on Sunday (a game in which Talisca scored)

* Talisca cost Benfica just €3m, but his contract contains an £18m release clause.

Some info about Talisca:

* 20 years old, and plays as an attacking midfielder, or a striker.
* Top scorer in the Portuguese Primeira Liga this season, with six goals in seven games.
* This season: Averaging 3.6 shots per game.
* 75% passing accuracy.
* 14 key passes.

Jose Mourinho is a fan of Talisca, and in a recent interview with TVI24, the Chelsea boss praised Benfica for 'buying well', adding:

"They say Talisca is unknown, but that is only because he doesn't have a work permit. If he had one, he would be here! There were many English teams that wanted him. Moreover, there were those who wanted to sign him, even though he could not play for now".

At 6'2, Talisca has the height and the physicality to make an impact in the Premier League, and with smaller players like Coutinho, Sterling, Lallana, and Markovic in the squad, Liverpool could probably benefit from having a different style of attacker in the team.

Mourinho clearly rates him, though, which is ominous. If it's Chelsea vs. Liverpool for the Brazilian, then (unfortunately) there's probably only one winner, especially with Mourinho at the helm.

If Liverpool sign another big-money attacking midfielder, Coutinho's chances in the first team will become even more limited. He needs to seriously step it up over the next few months, or risk being dumped on the Anfield scrapheap.

  1. Talisca wouldnt be a bad signing for Liverpool. This is the kind of player statistics LFC should be considering, not that of Keita Diao

  2. Jeez, its hardly been three months since Benfica signed him. What kind of rumor is this? Why would Benfica want to sell a player who is having such a stellar début season? Only reason could be quick profit I guess.
    .
I can't believe the amount of players turnover happening with these Portuguese giants (Porto and Benfica). Its remarkable that they are able to spot cheap genuine quality players and sell them as soon as their stock rises. In a way its bad for those clubs as it shows the lack of ambitions from them but they are at least making money in an otherwise debt laden country. Serie A can learn a thing or two from them.
    .
I think two of the biggest advantages that Portugal league has that they permit third-party ownership (soon to be banned) and virtually no requirements of work permits. These allows them to tap upcoming talents from non-European countries where most of the transactions are third-party ownership based.

  3. Stats based on 6-7 games played in Europe?

  4. Lovren injured on international duty, hopefully its not serious.

  5. The Portuguese league is a good stepping stone for players.

The reason they operate like that is because unlike the giants of football they cannot get lucrative sponsorship TV deals or a high attendance rate at matches. That's the way they survive.

If you look at the amount of money Porto has made Since 2003 you will be amazed, easily over £150M.

They have a few young player right now that will be superstars.

The bad thing is that this is at the detriment of the Portuguese players. The league is full of Brazilians and South Americans so it makes the breakthrough of Portuguese players harder.

This is why Sporting has been falling behind, they need to take a leaf out of Benfica and Porto's book regarding the selling of players for max profit.

  7. LFC should accept Markovic and Lambert are bad signings and get rid of them in January along with Borini. we should then go back to our play of strictly explosive direct attacking players like Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling, and of course King Luis Suarez. sign Andriy Yarmolenko for £18M from Dynamo Kyiev. fantastic striker/winger in the Arjen Robben/CR7 mould. 6 ft 3 lightnening pace like sturridge, skills and thunderous shot, at 24 hes been performing well for the past 2 seasons for club and national team. after 21 goals/4 assists in 39 last season, he has started this season with 7 goals/7 assists in 11 already improving on his assists from last season and on fire with the goals. 83 goals/50 assists in 229 games from RW for club and 15 goals/9 assists in 40 at International level. this guy has world class attributes and is basically a world class player. we should snap him up before Borussia Dortmund do, like they always do. after to replace Markovic we should sign Memphis Depay. with 2 goals/2 assists on the World Stage at the World Cup and 30 goals/25 assists in 92 games he is definately a world class young talent and his performaces at the World Cup and this season so far prove it. 8 goals/4 assists in 8 games some of the goals some real screamers. at 20 years old alongside Sterling we will have a craft of performing young players with scary potential. for £12M Depay is an absolute bargain. if Blind was the best player in Holland and went for £14M and Eriksen for £9M then we can definately get Depay for £12M. after that we Buy Ahmed Musa from CSKA for £15M. world class young winger and his performances in the World Cup and the Champions League prove it. he scored 2 world class goals against Argentina in a very poor Nigerian team and led them to the knockout rounds. He is very clinical in front of goal and has electric pace. he is quite like Messi or Sterling, as he has so much power and pace he can just glide past challenges. he gave Debuchy and Zabaleta some real problems. they just couldnt handle his pace and movement. he came to Europe with a big reputation as 18 year old having broke the Nigerian League goalscoring record at 17 with 18 goals. he was playing then as a striker. he joined VVV-Venlo and got 10 goals/12 assists from 42 games at 18 years old from left wing. he joined CSKA and since has got 30 goals/14 assists in 97 games. very good stats for a young winger. these 3 players suit our play perfectly and will contribute to our team effort of getting goals.

  8. You say what Porto and Benfica do by turning cheap players into valuable assets, who eventually get sold on for a profit a lack of ambition. However to a lesser extent we do exactly the same thing.
Whenever Liverpool have top players who are considered world class Barcelona or Real Madrid knock at our door and they're sold.Luis Suarez, Mascherano, Xabi Alonso...
It's called a football food chain.Liverpool are high up on the system but the Spanish Giants are the Apex Predators of football.

  9. indeed Lovren was also a bad signing and very rash and shaky. for the firgures we put up we should have put £30M for Hummels. thats a serious defender, but if not we should have just kept Agger, who might have got bullied by the likes of Lukaku but never makes silly mistakes like minor freekicks and always giving away the ball like lovren. Agger sold for £3m is a joke. Markovic and Lovren for £40M is a joke. i would have taken Hummels £30M and Memphis Depay £12M all day long. Lambert signing is even more of a joke. but Markovic was the worst. he has absolutely no ability. hes just fast but cant even use his pace effectively because he got no ability. he has no touch, no strength, no skill, no invention, no movement, he just got pace. we could have bought Bolasie for much cheaper is that was the case. im not attacking Markovic, but i honestly believe he would not be starting 11 in our reserves. there is more than 10 players better than him. Harry Wilson, Jordan Ibe, Jerome Sinclair, Texeria. Seyi Ojo, Suso, Rossiter(made his debut scored and never gives the ball away like Markovic, and isnt scared to shoot like Markovic) Adorjan, Sergi Canos. all these players are better than Markovic guarenteed. if Markovic joined Chelsea he'd just be one of those star studded players they stick in their academy. trust me theyve got loads.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Who? We are not in the position of unknown gems. It is proven quality or bust.

    ReplyDelete
  11. To be honest your comments on Markovic are quite frankly ridiculous. Admittedly he hasn't pulled up any trees as yet but the guys 20 years old and just moved to a new country to write him off completely already is just stupid. He's clearly lacking confidence at the moment. He certainly does have skill, invention and movement, these are 3 of his main assets. You then name 10 players better than him which is laughable as between them they have played about 40 games for LFC (mainly Suso). Have a bit of faith the guys clearly a talented young player and deserves a bit of time to adjust to the PL.

  12. See, there is a difference. These are selling clubs who are willing to sell players if they are able to register substantial profits. Liverpool and other similar clubs only sell players if he asks for it or forces his transfer. Liverpool didn't want to sell Mascherano or Suarez but they both forced the issue in their own way and there is simply no point in keeping unhappy players. As a result, clubs like Liverpool are not classified as 'selling clubs' because they are not interested in making money which is also evident on the basis of our loss making history. Regarding Xabi Alonso, you really have to ask Rafa why did he let him go? Barry?

    ReplyDelete
  13. As I said, at least they are making money in an otherwise recession laden country. Consequently, unable to find sustained sponsorship deals required to maintain a giant status in modern football industry. Its unfortunate really, as all their hard work results in accounting profit for owners and no change in club's status.

Anyway, this morning I seen reports that we have agreed deals to sign

    Marcus Reus
    Victor Veldes
    Keita Balde Diao
    Karim Benzema

So yeah, I only believe we have signed a player when I see him in a red shirt actually playing for us

  20. I know the difference between a club like Porto and Liverpool. That's why I used the words to a lesser extent."Liverpool is not interested in making money that's why they're are not classified as a selling club" Why do you think FSG by and large have a buy young policy...
We're not a selling club on the same scale as Benfica or Porto but we buy players using similar transfer guidelines.Resale value is important in our thinking when it comes to our recruitment. That's why our squad is young.I thought our football model was clear.
Maybe you and others think FSG had no intention of ever cashing in on Luis Suarez at some point, but i don't.I think it came a season earlier than they wanted/expected but they would've looked to get profit back.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The resale value strategy works well when we need to sell players that are surplus to requirements. Luis Suarez forced his way out of Liverpool, also acknowledged by Stevie G. We buy young but our transfer guidelines are far from that of Porto or Benfica. We buy young 'expensive' players and they buy it 'cheap'. Do you think they will pay 20mn for Markovic, 8mn for Aspas, 7mn for Alberto, 20mn for Henderson, 35mn for Carroll?? We buy them young but not cheap. Resale value is just to recover the part of transfer fees that we spent on them or full value if possible (Borini/Assaidi) but not with a primary intention of making profits. If we do make profit then that's a bonus.

  23. Has he not only just signed for Benfica? Doubt they'll be looking to move him on during the next transfer window.
Anyway if it comes to a straight choice between us and Chelsea, he could either come and get a chance playing for us or keep Salah company on Chelsea's bench

    ReplyDelete
  24. i can guarantee that we wont sing Marco's lesser known evil twin Marcus Reus. I'd stake my reputation on it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why weren't Messi and Ronaldo thrown in there while we're at it?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let me make myself clear before anything gets overly twisted.Just like FdotM stated Portugese teams are in no position to compete financially with a club like Liverpool.TV and sponsorship deals are far superior etc...
When i said similar guidelines: Obviously i wasn't about how much the clubs spend.Which can never be a fair comparison.I was referring to the players both clubs target and where they are in their football development at the time of purchase. And how they look to turn them into top players to be sold, when their market value hits it's peak level.
You think it's a bonus if a profit is made.I think it's a deliberate strategy from FSG to mostly go after young players which will see them move on for a profit, if they reach world class standard.

  28. Cech would be the dream signing for a new GK IMO. Still one of the best in the world and knows the league inside out. Valdes is a good GK, better than Mignolet, but I still have quite a few reservations about him, not sure he is a very commanding keeper and you would have to question his suitability to the PL having played in Spain all his life. Having said that we have to be realistic here and there is absolutely no chance of Mourinho selling us Cech so we may as well ditch that idea completely before we get our hopes up!!

  29. They will never allow him to come to Liverpool.

  31. It was doubtful Chelsea would let Juan Mata go to Man Utd but that happened. If Liverpool were title contenders we'd have no chance.
Chelsea are much better than us this season.Petr Cech is unhappy and seemingly ready to kick up a fuss.Money talks...

  32. Wrong formation, wrong GK, wrong RB, wrong positions for Lallana and Hendo, and wrong wings.
Markovic is just a kid that was not intended for the starting eleven this season, but he will get to that level. When the rest of the team is playing at at least 70 percent of their abilities, Lambert is good enough for that specific role BR is talking about, as seen in our last match.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Cech. All Day. Everyday. World-Class Keeper.

    ReplyDelete
  34. We have struggled with two holding midfielders all season long. It just does not fit in any shape or form.

I bet if you had to play Lambert behind a team that pressed like we did last season then you will see a completely different player. I would like to see Markovic play centrally who like Sterling has loads of pace.

Valdes is going to be no better off behind our inept defence.
