LFC Surprise? - Legend claims BR will make shock €20m transfer choice 'next season'

Amongst ex-Reds, €20m summer signing Mario Balotelli is clearly one Liverpool's least popular players, and Reds legend Jamie Carragher is one of the striker's most vocal detractors. Carra recently admitted that he is not a fan of Balotelli, and this week, he's predicted that LFC will sell the Italian sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, Carra admitted that he can't change the way he 'feels about Balotelli', and suggested that his old club may make a shock transfer decision at the end of the season. He noted:

“Do I think he’s going to be here long term? No. I’d be surprised to see him here next season if I’m being honest. These players, who are continually moved on, it’s for a reason".

In my view, Carra needs to have a more open-mind when it comes to Balotelli, as stating that he 'can't' change his view is (arguably) narrow-minded and inflexible.

I'm not the greatest fan of Sakho, Allen, et al, but If they perform well, I'll say so, and if they turn the corner and consistently play well, then I'll change my view of their effectiveness for LFC.

As for Balotelli leaving - it's definitely a possibility. Rodgers already set the precedent by dumping Sahin early; Rafa Benitez also canned Robbie Keane after only six months at the club, and he cost £4m more than the Italian striker.

I personally have no problem with Liverpool dumping under-performing players early, and if by Christmas - or the end of the season, Balotelli is not doing the business, Liverpool should definitely move him on.

Luckily, unlike expensive transfer catastrophes of the past, Balotelli is a comparatively inexpensive transfer, so if the club is to make a loss, it shouldn't be that big.

I can't see Rodgers dumping Balotelli in January, though. His hubris won't allow it. Sahin cost nothing, so it was easy to get rid of him, but scrapping £16m player after only six months will be a personal embarrassment for the manager, who insisted at the time of purchase that he could succeed where Jose Mourinho failed.

  1. Get rid of gerrard and that clown rodgers before he spends us into administration, stupid fool doesnt have a clue. We are complete cack.

  2. Rodgers buys have been appalling - Aspas, Borini, Balotelli, Allen, Mignolet, Sakho etc., And thats only the ones that played, look at the garbage he's bought that can't get a game.

Botom line - Suarez made Rodgers look good. He is a very average and not good enough for Liverpool!

Get Klopp, Get Ancellotti, Get Simeone, Get Someone Else!

    ReplyDelete
  3. I agree I'd like to have Simeone here but won't happen. BR cv is not an attractive selling point to the top players we also can't afford to pay them

    ReplyDelete
  4. Ouch!

Who knows what would happen if Brendan actually listened to Balotelli and played a second striker with him for more than 20 mins of a game... He has said it numerous times," I am not a lone striker, I play better with a strike partner" He can't help Brendan out anymore than telling him exactly what he needs....
That said, Brendan has alot of work to do now to convince alot of people he really does have what it takes to lead LFC forward, and last year wasn't just a fluke.

  5. Missing those sitters has nothing to do with a strike partner

  6. Sell him Jan........Get a proven striker

  8. carra is the master of double standards i seem to remember him being woeful for several seasons yet hes willing to write balo after 10 games most of which haven't been with danny.and have been as a lone striker ...Bruce today said balo was Liverpools best player but there you go

    ReplyDelete
  9. Despite his underwhelming showing so far, it doesn't seem quite fair to judge the guy on a handfull of performances as the lone spearhead of a chronically under-performing attack. We won't see anyway near the best of him until he has a strike partner and/or until we can reach some reasonable levels of creativity, moving the ball quickly and with purpose. It's far too early to talk about flogging him off. The over-reaction to his performances in some sections of the media is disgraceful, though highly predictable, and deflects from our other issues.

I thought Coutinho was absolutely superb when he came on today; progressive, tricky and strong too. He seems to be hitting some good form again and really should have started. I believe he may well be the key to getting this team playing well again.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I can't remember what Rodgers said when he signed Ballotelli. I don't remember him insisting he would succeed were Mourinho failed.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Carra is pandering to certain demographic of fan and hes a coward for singling an easy target out and leaving Gerrard out of any criticism.Sometimes you can judge people more by what they dont say than by what they do

  16. doesn't sound like him. although he must have thought about it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm sorry but I thought he played well today, especially when he was joined up front by Lambert. He seemed to put the effort in and was unlucky not to score. Haven't seen the penalty decision back yet, but from the anfield road end it looked a pen! I'm sure Mario will come good! YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  18. He does tend to big himself up but all I have read is him sounding nit almost that pleased by the signing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Why would we not sign him if it wasn't a failed medical?

  20. Maybe the infamous committee saw things differently...............

  21. What's £10 million to a club who have received an interest free £950 million cash injection from their billionaire oligarch owner?

Is that reason enough? Does that compute?

Liverpool allegedly sought 2nd and 3rd opinions on Remy's heart condition probably because £10 million plus £12 million in wages DOES matter to Liverpool...... And to their insurance company

    Remy'so injured now also......

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've said it so many times that LFC have been negligent & foolish to allow the Remy deal to fall through. The heart issue with Remy is totally subjective meaning depending on which specialist you consult the answer will differ. Contrast this with Fabrice Muamba whose case is categorically clear that he should never play again no matter who you ask. The irony is that we've sprnt 20 million on unproven "talent" in Markovich.
Remy being injured due to a groin strain is irrelevant. Sturridge has a poorer injury record, does this mean we should never had bought him?

    ReplyDelete
  23. An injury is an injury any bloomin player can have them cant they? Well any player who puts any type of effort into a game which is alot more than can be said about Balo. I have to admit that I wanted Balo rather than Remy to come to Chelsea. I thought his ego was only because he was a good enough player to have one. But how wrong was I eh? Remy is a real team player. He knew that with Costa with us he would be 2nd choice but he hasnt complained and when needed hes been great. He scored in the first 10 minutes he played for us. Against Bolton he did everything but score as well as an assist. He put one in against Palace and in the CL against Maribor.
His injury means hes out a couple of weeks but Id happily play him the next time Costas injured/suspended.
I know which one Id rather have playing for us.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Way to go, ignore my entire comment except for last line.....

I actually wanted Remy also, absolute bargain, but there is a reason that he has never quite made it to the top, his heart condition. Bigger clubs don't need to take the chance with him

QPR happily took the chance, or they just didn't get insurance cover

Remy also got a serious bump in pay to join Chelsea. A team player isn't happy to be guaranteed 2nd choice. At Liverpool he would have played as first choice with Sturridge

My point is that Chelsea can AFFORD not to worry about writing off £22 million. Our deals need to be vetted and insured, we live in the real world, not oligarch Monopoly money.... £950 million interest free!!!!!!!! City have also received similar investment

    ReplyDelete
  25. Read my comment. It explains my thoughts on why we didn't sign Remy

    ReplyDelete
  26. Remy is a good player, but i'm not convinced he would have been the answer to our loss of Suarez. Unless we managed to acquire a 'world class' forward in the summer, we were always going to struggle, particularly because we are poor defensively. We needed to acquire a number of top quality signings in the summer. Time will tell whether any of the ones that we did will meet this criteria. For now, they are just decent players. I think we needed to be more ambitious, however, because we may never have £120M at our disposal again.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So we can afford to splash the cash on Markovich, Assaidi, Lovren etc etc. I maintain Remy was a risk (albeit financial) well worth taking!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Qpr did seem eager to let him go.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The day after Mario signed,Ayre gushed that they'd sold £50,000worth of jerseys.Doubt if Remy would have done that and that,my friends is the bottom line with those people.

    ReplyDelete
  30. So you think that they spent six million more pounds on a player and that was done for 50k? As daft as Ayre seems he has increased revenues foe the club. He can't be that bad at maths.

    ReplyDelete
  31. No it is not, the fact that Remy failed FOUR PREVIOUS MEDICALS, and FAILING OURS WAS FIVE, that my friend is the reason.

    ReplyDelete
  32. IN ONE DAY.Does that help you a little?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Rodgers is not helping himself by putting a square-peg (Balotelli) in a round-hole (lone-striker). Mario is not a lone-striker, although given some time he may become like that, but we don't have the time. So why is Rodgers not playing 2 strikers? That's because other teams have figured out how to neutralize Gerrard in the holding role, and dominate our midfield. So that's the reasons Rodgers goes for the single striker. We just have to wait till Sturridge comes back and then we will get better.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The medicals were an excuse as they already had MB lined up.The shirt sales were the proof of that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Warrior make the money from the Shirt sales not LFC, they pay us a sponsorship of X amount, and cream the kit sales, where does that leave your point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yep,good point and I've just watched Gullit on MOTD giving a fair assessment of our positional awareness. It's belittling when pundits have to explain how to set up one's team.Imagine doing that to Mourinho or Van Gaal.Maybe it's a rflection of our woeful coaching team.

    ReplyDelete
  37. No. Chelsea can afford a £22 million punt on a player due to their oligarch sugar daddy giving them a £950 million interest free investment.

We cannot. We need to insure all players. We probably couldn't insure the Remy deal.

Did you actually read my comment?

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's a numbers game. They wouldn't have sold as many 'Remy' tops. That's my point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jersey sales has got nothing to do with it. Mario will probably be our 5th or 6th highest jersey sold

    ReplyDelete
  40. But only Warrior would have gained from Kit Sales, we only get 8.5% (so i'm told) from any sales to cover costs, sales staff, utilities etc.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Right, coupled with an experienced coach who may get more out of them.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Of course, but but the more you sell...........Plus Mario has a higher profile. But sometimes with him that's not a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. To clarify things, in case my opinion is being misconstrued, I was 100% behind us signing REMY.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Gullit had his chance as a manager and failed.

It's easy to sit in a studio and give an opinion.

Did every pundit, and supporter, in the land not tear LVG's 3-5-2 to shreds until he realised his mistake and back track?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hypothetically, would anyone at Anfield listen? The defensive coach idea was dismissed out of hand today by Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Chris Kamara a legend? Having a laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Cara was not a good defender for a very long time. Did Liverpool give up on him? Agreed; double standards

    ReplyDelete
  48. While I am not supporting Balo's lack of goals, let us not pretend that the Premier League games are the only football games to score in.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Media - "So BR, are you willing to swallow your pride and admit that you are such a bad football coach that you need help?"

BR - "Yes, I suck, please give me Nigel Winterburn ASAP to save my skin"

BR can't possibly admit publicly that he needs such help

    ReplyDelete
  50. Rodgers should play another striker with Balo then we can judge Balo. Balo has been trying too hard and that style does not work.

Anyway who is Carragher to condemn Balotelli after a few games? Cara was not a good defender for many years but Liverpool never gave up on him. He just got lucky when Liverpool had no better defenders.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Klopp is 15th and 2 points above the relegation zone. If you were a Dortmund fan you'd be calling for his head right now.

    ReplyDelete
  52. BR has gotten a lot out of Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Henderson so far. Or will you find an excuse for that too?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jaimie, It can't be an 'excuse' when Remy finally admitted himself that he failed a medical.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I've never liked Rodgers from DAY 1! I thought it was a completely stupid hire when announced and this is just more proof that Rodgers has no clue what he is in doing in the transfer market. At the end of the season he needs to be fired. He is being exposed in tactics as well. Suarez was the only reason he was not exposed last season. fire him before he takes the club down further..

    ReplyDelete
  55. And why would this be a "Shock"??? come on.. ease up on the headline hyperbole...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sturridge is one lad I wish we had not sold. He will be a big help to you when hes fit.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Welcome to midtable mediocrity!

Those blaming Balotelli are making him a scapegoat when none of our other attacking player are doing anything significant either. Our defence can save their blushes too as it was a very poor Hull team and clearly they were happy with a draw. It will be a different story vs Newcastle and also Swansea in the League cup.

All I am going to say is that Rodgers can have till the end of the season but forget about top 4 because it is not going to happen with the rubbish football we are playing. West Ham / Fat Sam are putting our football to shame. How much longer do we have to endure the rubbish being served up? Rodgers last season would chop and change tactics/formations according to the opposition but we would still flatten any team. This season he has a mindset of being cautious and just does not seem to have any idea of what he is doing and has no solutions to make our attack produce goals despite having adept attacking players.

    Something needs to give.

    ReplyDelete
  58. There is not 1 player in the whole squad that has been outstanding all season Sterlings been about the best and hes still a kid it really does not say much about the others.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Remy played less league games than Sturridge last season.

    ReplyDelete
  60. If Manquillo is dropped for Johnson again then clearly there is a case of bias? Our full backs were not very adventurous yesterday and I think it had to do with the fact that Skrtel and Lovren need to be babied.

It is really painful to watch this sh!te.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Remy is injured right now and since 2007 he has averaged 27 matches a season since his days at Marseille.

Like Sturridge, Remy would not be a player we can rely on for fitness. In his first season at QPR he managed 14 appearances. The folloiwng season at Newcastle 26 matches. Walking injury.

    ReplyDelete
  62. It would be unlucky for them both to be injured at the same time all season though. We wouldn't have to change tactics when one or the other is out

    ReplyDelete
  63. What are you talking about? Comical legend.

    ReplyDelete
  64. If we play to Balotelli's strengths instead of hanging him out to dry then he most probably will score goals. Rodgers by now must have figured out Balo is not capable of leading the attack and would be better off playing alongside or just behind another striker.

Rodgers is to stubborn and ignorant to see this. Borini is not everyone's cup of tea but let him do the running upfront or even Markovic. We need mobility, pace, someone chasing the ball. Sterling right behind the two upfront and Bob is your uncle.

Instead we see Rodgers persisting with the same idea of hoping that Balotelli will somehow become a another Suarez. If he is that ignorant then he needs to be shown the door.

    ReplyDelete
  65. When did he say this? He said that he was in the dark as to why the deal fell through.

    ReplyDelete
  66. No, they knew he wouldn't stay! Redknapp said repeatedly he would like to keep him!

    ReplyDelete
  67. He said it a couple of weeks after he said that

    ReplyDelete
  68. Maybe, it wasn't a choice between him and Balotteli? Maybe it was a choice between him and Origi?

Things are never as straightforward as they seem. ...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Then must be a choice beetwen Balotelli and Falcao?!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes everything Redknapp says is the truth. You just convinced me I'm right when I only had suspicion.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Imagine if we had Remy and Falcao insted Balotelli and Borini.

    ReplyDelete
  72. A little. Can't imagine many are being sold after the initial furore. I doubt there will have been 31 days like that. Again the maths wouldn't work. The initial period is when you sell the most presumably, unless they turn out to be excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Can't believe it was merely a failed medical that ended the deal. I imagine Remy's agents made unreasonable demands and Liverpool refused to meet them. Chelsea by contrast don't consider anything unreasonable. Rodgers only wants players who want to play for the club, not for their pay-cheques, and I guess Remy wasn't that player.

    ReplyDelete
  74. balo has at least played every game ...for all sturridges alleged brilliance hes about as robust as wet tissue ..its no use being great if your only playing a hatful of games a season .Did you actually watch the game yesterday Mike , watch it again without buying into the mass hysteria and mob mentality and you will see balo was our best player....when analyzing a match for faults start at the worst player and work down not vice versa

    ReplyDelete
  75. I don't really see that Remy would be doing that much better than Balotelli. Liverpool have other issues, particularly defensive ones, and Remy is hardly a world-beater. Maybe he'd have a goal or two, I think that's the best case scenario. Whatever the story - Liverpool decided not to sign him. Obviously they had a reason and unless we know what that reason is it's a fairly pointless discussion. He's not a Liverpool player and the only reason we're talking about is because we're so desperate for news in the off season that even someone negotiating to play for Liverpool is news. Maybe take a step back and think about that for a second.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Enemyofeverydisbeliever12:03 pm, October 26, 2014

I think every time Mourinho throws Remy in, he scores from the bench, so what he would do if started all games for us? It was a massive unprofessionalism from BR, he changed his mind in the last minute, the story of medical problems were a total joke, otherwise why would chelsea sign a player of medical problems, its insane isnt it? So another mistake by rodgers one of millions this season. Personally Im done with this team, even when sturridge comes back, one player cant change a team 100% unless world class, like suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  77. OK then, see ya.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Did u see Schmeichel on Motd2? He raised some good points on our defence. He wasn't patronising at all. Speaking as a keeper he says cos defence has no trust in Mignolet that they don't push up enough(10 yards) that space is being exploited by teams against us and that's hurting us. Said some other stuff too. Was surprised didn't take any cheap shots at us

    ReplyDelete
  79. your first choice was perfect Klopp and he's a realistic target unlike Ancellotti. B R or BS as he should be called now has shown his inability to be a top manager at this current time. Too big a club with too much pressure too soon. Maybe someday BR sorry BS will turn out to be a good manager but I don't wish to wait and see that at Liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  80. I like it when experts can actually give honest insights into stuff like that, helps the average fan get some genuine understanding that we otherwise probably wouldn't. I certainly can't analyse defensive patterns like that. It's good to be able to explain what it is about Mignolet that isn't quite right. It just adds to my uneasy feeling that Rodgers is not as good with defence as he is with attack. Of course if I take my own advice I don't know the first thing about what Rodgers knows or doesn't know, but the results are undeniable. Over 2 seasons now and Liverpool's defence is their liability. Maybe his brush off of the idea of a defensive coach was like when he said we weren't interested in Mario and we'll see someone new at Melwood next week.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I guess QPR have the luxury to do without Remy?!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well they don't have to deal with whatever problem he has if that is what you mean.

What other explanation is there for us not signing him?

    ReplyDelete
  83. In my opinion, Rodgers has completely mismanaged the roster this season.

There's no reason to play Sterling 3 games in 6 days.

And it's been a recurring theme all season with this team.

He went out and bought all this depth in the summer, yet only rotates about 2-4 positions in a given game, with the rest of the team staying relatively consistent.

The only potential exception is the League Cup on Tuesday, but this is only our second match in that tournament.

If Rodgers doesn't rotate more, it's incredibly damning on the transfer business from this past summer.

    ReplyDelete
  84. fire Rodgers as soon as possible !!

He was able to perform this much just because of the charisma of one man -SUAREZ. He's a good coach for a team aiming for improvement till 6th-7th position. But beyond that his ability is seriously questionable. He doesn't have any european or big tournament experience. He can't attract even a single star player. He is a dead wood now.If Liverpool wish to grow as a club and wish to succeed at european level , it must sign a manager with a proven repertoire. I believe tactically he is miserable. Even after a complete season of our consistent defensive lapses, he hasn't been able to find even a single strategic change cure for that. On top of that - each of his signing since his time at Anfield has been utterly miserable.

Liverpool fc must sack him asap!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. If we are to trust BR constant statements about time to gel etc we are realistically talking 2 more seasons. Meanwhile Urinal will continue to strengthen and we will be 5th place at best.

    ReplyDelete
  86. That's the whole point I made about signing Remy, with or without Balotelli

    ReplyDelete
  87. Rather than solely focus on Remy, which is a complete farce in it's own right, the real question that should be asked is how have we replaced Suarez?

I am sure if Sturridge is fit, we'll get back to scoring goals. But all last year BR talked about a lack of squad depth. So where is that depth after we've spent £100m?

Borini - not even a worth a place on the subs bench
    Origi - loaned out
Lambert - High expectations, failed to settle
    Mario - Ugly ducking?
Markovic - Out of his depth
Lallana - Decent acquisition but not likely to score more than 10 a season

    Not a good story..

    ReplyDelete
  88. Its nothing to do with ;AFFORD' not to worry about writing off £22 mill. WE are sticking close to FFP guidelines. WE sell our main 1st team players so that we can buy another player to fill a position. WE dont go borrowing one from a club thats owned by our owner. WE dont go buying a team full of new players just to stop others from buying them. We wait till the right players available that will fit into our team or we just dont buy one. We are a different club to Romans early years its just with peoples blinkered views they live in the past and dont look at us now. We are self sufficient.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Your daft manager didnt think he was a big enough name so he thought ; alot of people are looking at Balo I might as well buy him' But instead hes bough a big bag full of trouble and grief. But to be honest I thought he would be good for you and who knows he might click with Sturridge.

  90. I had a heart problem and for years and docs told me nothing was wrong
because every time I had an ECG (Session where they monitor your heart),
they couldn't detect any problems... Until one day they did manage to
catch it whilst the prob was occurring and therefore identified the
    issue.

I would speculate that Remy may have a temperamental issue that shown up
during the LFC medical, but it was fine during Chelsea's.

Of course we'll never know, but I had some very experienced and high
paid specialists both private and NHS and in two different countries
telling me that nothing was wrong before a specialist finally identified
    it years later.

My point? Heart issues are fickle. They are risky. Everything can appear
fine, then bang you're in the hospital getting your heart rebooted or
worse. Would you want to spend 12m on something as fickle as that? Not
to mention the guys life could be at stake

  92. There definitely seems to be a recent change in policy, PSG's bizarre purchase of Sideshow Bob helped a little, but the fact remains that it is all built on close to £1 billion interest free investment. This, to me, is financial doping. Like the sprinter Gatlin, you may be "clean" now but are still reaping the rewards of illegitimate funding.

In fact Chelsea don't have to repay any of it to their owner..... Until he decides to sell up that is.

I've always thought that he chose to buy Chelsea because of the value of Stamford Bridge land.

As for not buying players to stop other teams having them read this

I dont get it tho because youve not got some bad players. I even like Balo on his good days. The only one i dislike is Skrtel and hes a psycho and needs having a word with.
But we havent been playing our best lately. Its just we are still playing better than the teams we have played.
But you should have a few wins coming up and that will get your confidence higher plus wit Sturridge back soon it MIGHT just turn your season around.
