With just over a week to go until the start of the new Premier League season, Liverpool are still struggling to replace Luis Suarez, and given Daniel Sturridge's ongoing fitness worries, a new top-class striker is arguably a necessity for the club. Mauro Icardi and Wilfried Bony are currently linked with the Reds, but Brendan Rodgers reportedly wants to bring one Europe's best goalscorers to Anfield.
According to the Daily Mail today:
* Liverpool want to take Colombia striker Radamel Falcao on a £10m season-long loan, with a view to making the deal permanent.
* Liverpool scouts recently watched Falcao score the winning goal for Monaco in a friendly against Arsenal.
* The Reds are willing to match the striker's current £220k a week (£12m approx) salary.
BBC/ESPN pundit Mina Rzouki also claims that Liverpool want Falcao, and insist that the Reds are actually favourites to sign the £50m-rated striker. Last night, she tweeted:
Earlier this week, Liverpool legend John Aldridge suggested Falcao as a possible signing for the club. He told Sky Sports:
"Who is out there? Falcao, they're saying he had a horrendous season last year. He was a bit part of the player he was last season. If he can get back to where he was the previous season then he would be one wouldn't he?"
At first glance, £35m-rated Falcao - who earned the nickname 'El Tigre' at Atletico Madrid - seems like the ideal signing, but with Real Madrid also reportedly interested, a move to the Bernabeau may prove to be more appealing to the Colombian.
On top form, Falcao - recently described as 'incredible' by Claudio Ranieri - is a major asset, and his formidable stats over the last 4 years prove this:
* 119 goals/18 assists in 153 appearances.
* Goal every 1.3 games
* Goal/Assist every 1.1 games
Great stats, but the Falcao only recently recovered from a cruciate ligament injury, and there's always a possibility that he'll struggle to recapture his pre-injury form. Knee injuries are a killer for footballers, especially strikers who - like Falcao - rely on bursts of pace to be effective.
Just look at Fernando Torres - once upon a time, the Spaniard was inarguably one of the world's best strikers; a couple of knee injuries later, and he's now a shadow of his former self, and consistently struggles to make an impact for Chelsea. Of course, Falcao may buck the trend and come back even better than before, but it seems unlikely.
Still, it's good to see Liverpool trying to sign the right calibre of player, and given Falcao's injury, a loan deal is the perfect solution for the player, and the club. It'll give the striker a chance to re-establish himself (whilst playing Champions League football), and if he doesn't recapture his form, then Liverpool can choose not to take up the option to buy.
£220k a week is a sickening amount of money to pay a footballer, though, and in my view, no one is worth that much. That's modern football though, and that level of salary is par for the course when it comes to elite players.

It's not yet done. Falcao is between Liverpool and City but the former quite a bit in the lead to land the player. What a coup it would be

The guardian and others are saying he rather go to Madrid! Maybe Di Maria not going to PSG will help us. Why did we wait so long?? Same mistakes every transfer window.
ReplyDeleteits not my money Jk and i shouldn't be bothered ..and i know about market values and the going rate blah blah but it it honestly makes me feel quite nauseous to read about players getting so much,
ReplyDeletePipe dream.
ReplyDeleteI think that's officially every striker in Europe we've been linked to now. If Real want him then we don't stand a cat in hells chance anyway. I honestly believe the only sensible route open to us now is to fork out for Bony; a proven goalscorer we know can cope with the pace and physicality of the Premier League.
ReplyDeleteFalcao would be one hell of at a wage of £250-300k a week with his knee problem. I say no thank you and FSG will probably agree.
ReplyDeletei wasn't keen on bony but as time goes on the deal makes more and more sense ,i dont want falco this deal has andy carroll crock written all over it
ReplyDeleteWithout a top striker we're looking at a battle for 6th with Spurs.
ReplyDeleteSturridge was 2nd behind Suarez last season.
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard Altidore yet... we're still good.
ReplyDeleteMost of them set up by Suarez, or created by defenders worrying about the best player in the world spinning in behind them.
ReplyDeleteMina Rzouki sure has catfished a lot of sites and people. If you really believe FSG is going to pay that for his age and coming off a major knee op then you should go see a doctor and get your head examined.
ReplyDeleteWe will survive without Suarez.
ReplyDeleteOf course, we won't make the top 4 though.
ReplyDeleteWell that is your opinion I guess.
ReplyDeleteIf Brendan takes the current squad into the top 4 he will officially be a genius.
ReplyDeleteI want to win the league, so I SAY YES PLEASE ..
ReplyDeleteHe took the squad of last season inches to winning the league.
ReplyDeleteI think Edinson Cavani would be lower risk because of the injury... But there's no doubting Falcao's quality... I'd take him if we could get him... But there's a massive salary difference.. Monaco is tax free... Here he'd be paying 50% tax...
ReplyDeleteCavani, Falcao, Reus (even though he's not an out and out striker) I can't think of any other world class forwards we might be in with a shout at signing.. I'd love Tevez
NO thanks...we want Bony
ReplyDeleteWe need an attacker who is well rounded , more likely to be a winger than a striker tbh.
ReplyDeleteFALCAO what a BEAST!!!! highly doubt it but imagine we get him and reus. damn no harm in dreaming
ReplyDelete220k a week for Falco how is now aging plus his knee, they better give me that money i pay for my University as a liverpool supporter
ReplyDeleteThat squad had one of the top three players in the world in it. That turned a 6th place team into a 2nd place team. Since then our competitors are strengthening and we are weakening.
ReplyDeleteWe still did not win the league though. Where did we finish with Suarez under Dalglish?
ReplyDeleteSuarez certainly peaked during 2013/14. LFC will be less successful without him.
ReplyDelete220k a week for Falco, with his knee plus his age, better we buy Torreis
ReplyDeleteEh, no we don't.
ReplyDeleteTevez for a season would be great
ReplyDeleteSee, I have to disagree. Suarez improved under Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteRodgers has the knack of bringing the best out of the players who work under him. Our squad for this season has far more depth than the one of last season. If we can add Moreno or another LB and one more striker then we will have a very competitive squad.
Altidore > Aspas
ReplyDeleteWe need an out and out goal scorer more than anything.. Here's a thought: how about Bony AND Reus,,,,,,?
ReplyDeleteLet's hope you're right, but if the pre season was anything to go by we're in big trouble.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Ricky Carthorse is the perfect replacement ..
ReplyDeleteAnd since when does ones competitive season hang in the balance of ones preseason?
ReplyDeleteCity did not have a good preseason last time round and went on to win the league. They again have had a not so good preseason.
Preseason is preseason.
Suarez did his own thing, him and Sturridge gave Buck a much elevated CV
ReplyDeletePreseason results are unimportant, we beat City.
ReplyDeleteBut if you saw the game it was men against boys, not one slightly better premiership team against another, more like premiership vs championship.
Chelsea lost 3-0 vs Bremen.
ReplyDeleteChampionship vs Bundesliga?
I guess so.
Didn't see Chelsea, I hope they're crap.
ReplyDeleteCity destroyed us at a canter with their best players missing.
That is the way you see it. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be worse if he came without his knee :-)
ReplyDeleteNot the 11 goals he scored when Suarez was banned!
ReplyDeletem,lkl
ReplyDeletecavani is very similar to sturridge
ReplyDeletereus would be perfect but he is joining arsenal
i am surprised we have not looked at shane long he is very similar to suarez :
ReplyDeletevery versatile
works really hard
proven premier league scorer
he will be quite cheap , and a much better player then lambert
Suarez, his representatives and Barcelona are probably bending over because of the following...
ReplyDeleteAlejandro Balbi, Suarez's lawyer said
"But we will defend him on everything, bearing in mind the fact there is also an economic effect on the AUF because not having Suarez means it loses between 250,000 US dollars and 359,000 US dollars every game."
Ouch!
what is auf?
ReplyDeletedo liverpool need a striker ?
ReplyDelete...................................borini
sterling........................coutinho.............ibe
with suso and lambert on the bench
then sturridge, lallana and markovic will also return
Uruguayan Football Association.
ReplyDeletewell that is suarez fault
ReplyDeletei hope it is not relaxed , barca seem to get away with everything they were not even meat to be able to buy anyone
Barca are paying Suarez his wages for the next three months without kicking a ball.
ReplyDeleteHe was on £200k a week with us. Something tells me that figure increased. No wonder Barcelona are letting the Uruguayan Football Association do all the dirty work.
i have composed a list of forwards that are versatile with prem experience that i think would jump at the chance of joining lfc:
ReplyDeleteshane long
gabriel albonglahor
arunatoviuc
clint dempsy
di santo
one of them will do , sum of them are very underrated and just because they do not play for good clubs does not mean they are not good , remember steve finnan
Barca are one of the most corrupt club organizations in football today. What I cannot stand is now the president is saying that Suarez was tied up before the WC itself. I am very sure that the ban will magically be reduced due to 'insufficient evidence'.
ReplyDeleteDi Santo is not that good, Dempsey showed his frailties in Tottenham and Gabby is too inconsistent and Long is not clinical enough. I would take Arnautovic.
ReplyDeleteiis actually quite hard to read that list and not chuckle
ReplyDeleteso who do you propose that we have a chance with
ReplyDeleteim genuinely not having a dig m8 but replacing suarez with the likes of shane long or gabby just made me chuckle but whats even funnier it could happen
ReplyDeletealbonglahor was very good when barry, milner and young were there
ReplyDeletewhile aruntovic was a former inter milan player
i think sterling is suarez replacement while ibe can be sterlings replacement
im a big sterling fan but i actually think hes most effective playing in midfield and running from deep coupled with the fact thats hes actually a really sound defensive player with a good engine
ReplyDeletepeople were saying suarez was not clinical enough in his first two seasons , so long could be better under rodgers
ReplyDeletedi santo is an argentina international you have to be a very good player to do that and he used to play for chelsea
while albonglahor destroyed us at anfield , plus suarez was not consistent where was he vs chelsea h and a ,?
Never gonna happen
ReplyDeletemaybe ibe can play upfront he has the physique the pace and the skill
ReplyDeleteon the wing i feel he runs into two many people
YES they do .. Strikers win games .. SAS
ReplyDeleteI just hope this transfer window turns out a success for Liverpool. Around 100 million spent and I don't think the quality of our team has improved much, just a bigger squad.
ReplyDeleteI hope they spent the money (around 150 million with sales) more wisely and not just for the future. This is very ambitious but maybe:
Reus- 35 million
Di Maria- 45 million
Bony- 20 million
Lovren- 20 million
Moreno- 20 million
Can- 10 million
Manquillo on loan
So that's around 150 million.
Reading all of this is making me laugh.... Dare to dream?
i thought he was real effective last year in the hole behind the striker because hes hard to pick up i feel as a cf with a man stuck to him he will be isolated
ReplyDeletePhil Thompson has said Messi to Liverpool is already a done deal.
ReplyDeletedi maria and reus we practically have zero chance
ReplyDeletethey are all highly rated players while we are european newbies
who have not won a league in 25 seasons
we need to be realistic
you can dream but it will hurt you even more
My dreams usually end in depression and three-week benders. I'll let you dream for me.
ReplyDeletewithout doubt our best player
ReplyDeletesturridge worrys me why is he always injured?
Do they? How many top strikers have bayern had at any one time over their trophy laden last couple of years?
ReplyDeleteOr Muller, or plastic Ronaldo, or Neymar ..
ReplyDeletebut look at the players behind the fake 9
ReplyDeleteCant be true - PHIL THOMPSON has not approved it
ReplyDeletemuller is fantastic striker as well
ReplyDeletemaybe ibe can do it or markovic
does anyone know how gallium baluge gets all his info?
ReplyDeletethis guy really annoys me he
Is he ?!
ReplyDeleteOverstatement. They were much better in the first half yes but not the second.
ReplyDeleteAgree , short term solution and then Origi , Ibe , Suso and Markovic can take over
ReplyDeleteJERMAIN DEFOE will 6 hours to spare on deadline day - PREDICTION
ReplyDeleteThere are reports we have also asked about Cavani.
ReplyDeleteMuller, Mandžukić, Gomez, Pizzaro, Olic, ..
ReplyDeleteits a mis read rogers has booked a caravan
ReplyDeletewe inquire about robben last season
ReplyDeletedoes not mean anything , liverpool are not a club that have been successful in the majority of players lives , and the city is not an attraction
still 99% of footballers would join us though but just not the top ones
you have to ask what are the experts doing this guy needs a taylor made routine as hes made of glass
ReplyDeletePlaying for Liverpool is not the same as playing for Sunderland .. the end
ReplyDeleteCavani would be a great addition - plus think of all the hair product sponsorhip deas, guess you'd get those wiht Falcao too.
ReplyDeleteBut there are rumours, would be probably a better signing than Falcao - better scoring record, better creative record, better at defensive contribution/pressing, never had any serious injuries. Both great players though - and someone of that Caliber is needed
good you ae still here how is the support of liverpool in uruguay now that surez has left
ReplyDeletenew fabio aurelio?
ReplyDeleteSorry, Cavani dropped in my eyes when he virtually disappeared in the WC. He was no help at all and seemed lost on the field.
ReplyDeletebut playing for chelsea and roma is
ReplyDeleteI know mate just saying what I read.
ReplyDeleteWas playing wide though wasn't he?
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that. I was just making the point that you don't necessarily need lots of strikers as long as you have enough goals spread around your squad
ReplyDeletehe is not creative enough for my liking
ReplyDeletelike a chelsea torres that can score a few goals
we dont need two strikers that hate playing wide
ReplyDeletethere are plenty of great strikers who will join liverpool but rogers and his staff have to make the effort to find them court them and sign them.
ReplyDeleteHe's had a rough year - divorce, being played out of position at PSG, more or less plays out of position with Uruguay too. Season before last he got 29 league goals with Napoli, the one before that 23, and the one before that, 26 - in fact he's got double digits goals for the past 5 seasons - the past year was a blip - he'll be back.
ReplyDeletea good defense can help
ReplyDeletetoure and mignolet first three games of season
So you're saying he's a target man? Think BR said he's not interested in a target man.
ReplyDeletebenzema said lfc are not big enough for him
ReplyDeletesanchez did not even give lfc a look
Muller can play anywhere, he can't really be pigeon holed as a striker
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember. I thought wow...he's tall, fast, scores a lot of goals...but then this year with the Ibra thing and the WC, I just chalked it up to the standard Serie A stock inflation on talent.
ReplyDeleteThere's still Coates. Support is waning a bit, but more people will be watching the PL - plus if Liverpool can play close to the level of last year, will probably retain a good deal of LFC fans (besides the local club, also called Liverpool).
ReplyDeletePlaying for Chelsea? When?
ReplyDeleteAs for playing for Roma .. So what?
osvaldo was quite good at italy
ReplyDeleteas was shevchenko neither cut it at the prem
i imagine most Uruguayans where already big fans of barcaloena even before suarez ?
ReplyDeleteim not convinced we made any real effort to sign either ..did rogers and any of anfields big guns meet them or was it just a call to there agent by ayre
ReplyDeleteNo he is a central player who drops deep. Very different to playing wide though.
ReplyDeleteWe had two last season and it was alright.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not
ReplyDeleteSemantics, he's a striker
ReplyDeleteChelsea also finished third last season without any decent strikers. If you offered me third next season right now I would take it
ReplyDeleteFans - a few, pretty big Uruguayan community in Barcelona, quite a bit of Catalonian decent. But support for European teams spread out a bit betweens Spanish/Italian and a few English teams.
ReplyDeleteMost people will watch a few Barca games a year anyway - this year a lot more, will be pretty crazy if that front line clicks.
Yes, how many times in his first season did Suarez bang shots off the woodwork...think 12 is the right answer.
ReplyDeletethe thing is the players would not even talk to liverpool
ReplyDeletemkhitaryan told us to do one as well
maybe liverpool fans have to accept that even with our 5 european cups we are not as big as we think we are
i was born after liverpool won their last title, most of my generation support man utd, chelsea or arsenal and obviously big bum licks of barca and real
sarcastic
ReplyDeletejust a bit frustrated why would you leave the most important transfer to the end
have they not learnt from konoplayanka
How did they destroy us when we had more clear cut chances than them and actually ended up drawing the match?
ReplyDeletevan gaal looks the real deal if they sign a few center backs that can actually defend
ReplyDeletei am quite scared
I'm just playing devils advocate really. I agree we need another quality striker
ReplyDeletebut suarez has the creativity needed he can dribble, nutmeg has great vision for a pass
ReplyDeletecavani does not
He still scored 16 goals and got 2 assists with PSG. But it's not just being played wide that is the issue - given his stamina, size, speed, and tackling/defensive ability he's expected to make a big defensive impact - this takes away from his effectiveness as a striker. You watch Urugay or PSG he appears to play almost as a wingback.
ReplyDeletesorry dont rate him rather have forlan
ReplyDeletehows he going on?
nice stop gap
that may be so but while the players are sportsmen there agents are businessmen and if the intent and money is there a meeting can usually take place out of professional courtosy coupled with the fact that it gives the agents own players massive leverage when discussing a contract either with there own or a buying club. Did any of these players actually talk to rogers over the phone or by skpe or whatever I very much doubt it , people usually want to test drive a car before buying it.
ReplyDeleteis that not tapping up
ReplyDeletethe other club have to give permission
barca gave us , apparently sanchez did talk to rodgers
the time delay for suarze move to happen suggest liverpool did make a good effort
not bad better then lambert
ReplyDeletehas pace and can score a goal
sorry i was just frustrated
ReplyDeletei dont want any of them but i am so frustrated with liverpool
why did we not sign someone at the start of the summer?
their not even meant to be able to sign anyone
ReplyDeleteI know jamie says we should not care about what players do in their private life but one of the players we are linked with iccardi
ReplyDeletei hope we go nowhere near, why would you steal your friend wife especially if that guy gave you a place to stay
obviously if he plays like messi i would not care but he does not
Our priority at the end of the season, was to sort out the defence.
ReplyDeleteThen the Suarez situation. Neither has been adequately addressed.
For me, Buck has been very poor in his transfer dealings. He clearly also has a problem dealing with senior players.
i knwo we had a good season last year but if we are not top 4 by the first 10 games of the season
ReplyDeletehe has to leave
if only rafa benitez had the sort of money rodgers had
They haven't left the most important transfer for the end though. Sanchez was the priority but he chose Arsenal. I don't think Rodgers is looking for a player who is going to replace Suarez like for like. It's impossible anyway.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, it really is imperative that we sign a new striker.
ReplyDeleteOur Options at the moment:
Sturiddge: First choice striker, problems, injury prone and i may get battered for this but he can often be wasteful with chances.
Lambert: Back up and rotation. Offers another dynamic to our play. Problem is he's not going to play a lot and he isn't as clinical as Sturridge.
Borini: (if he stays) I like him, but I think his time has been and gone. I think he has bags of potential but I don't think he will realise it anymore.
So due to that I really think it's a no brainer that we sign another striker. My first choice (as uninspiring as it may be) would be Bony, He's big he's suited to the EPL, we know he can score and like suarez, he doesn't get injured.
There are more exciting options, but in my opinion until we've re-established ourselves as a consistent Champions League team it is still going to be hard to attract the cream of the crop. Also I think it has a lot to do with the manager, don't get me wrong I think BR is great and doing a very good job. It's evident he has superb man management skills and a very deep technical understanding of the game. However it's that thing about not being a world class known Manager. Top players want to play with managers who are well known and generally have trophies in their cupboard. It's part of the attraction for a lot of players.
In a few years I'm sure players will be more enticed by him but it's not always about how good you are, it's about being able to back up how good you are.
I'd like to know how many signings / how much Buck has spent?
ReplyDeleteSturridge has been excellent, but he is still too injury prone. Coutinho had an adequate season. The rest?
see i used to think rodgers had a plan for everything how a player would suit the system
ReplyDeletebut aspas and alberto were so unsuited for teh pl it is not even funny
molby said this before they kicked a ball how did rodgesr not know that
Now you mention him, If we are supposed to scout and rank the players we want why has kono fallen down the list?
ReplyDeletealright if you wish
ReplyDeleteborini 12m ............................cissoko 1m(loan)
allen 15m .......................................sturridge 12m
sahin 2m (loan)...............................coutinho 8m
assaidi 4m ......................................lambert 4m
aspas 7m ........................................lallana 25m
alberto 6m ......................................markovic 20m
moses 2m(loan) ..............................lovren 20m
mignolet 9m .....................................origi 10m
toure.................................................can 10m
sakho 18m.........................................manquillo
iloris 7m
you can do the sum
the owner put us off
ReplyDeleteOk, a simpler question, what percentage of these 21 signings are automatic starters?
ReplyDelete.
.
.
.
It's a squad game yeah yeah yeah ..
He certainly gave him one hell of a place to stay!
ReplyDeleteHe has since married her so perhaps he didn't steal her perhaps they just chose each other
Yes you're probably right but it seems hard on kono
ReplyDeletei think lallana, markovic an lovren will be
ReplyDeletesturridge , coutinho, sakho and mignolet were last season
so 7/21 which is 33%
while origi, can, iloris and manquillo can be deemed for the future palyers
To be making statements like that before a ball has been kicked is nothing short of ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteAnd Rafa? Rafa spent a fortune whilst in charge and oversaw an enormous amount of dross join the club on top of a few good players. Point is Rafa's record in the transfer market was anything but perfect.
We had a better league season last year than Rafa ever managed during his tenure and we're much better to watch albeit at the expense of our defensive solidity.
Rodgers had earned his crack of the whip, you can't write him off before the season's even started
for me and my friends it would be wrong to for one of their ex girlfriends
ReplyDeletebut thats just us
anyway people have done a lot worse
lol i think i overreacted hope jaimie does not see it
oh no i forget yesil !
ReplyDeletejust cant see him doing well without suarez
ReplyDeleteI said how many top strikers have they had at any one time over their trophy laden last couple of years. You've just listed off all the strikers that have played for them in the last 5 years.
ReplyDeleteSo they've signed Lewandowski but sold Mandzukic so the question remains.,. How many top strikers do they have?
I know we all feel glum apart from loganlfc
ReplyDeletebut arsenal fans felt even worse last season at a later time in august
but by the end of it they ere the happiest fans in the world
so i hope that gives some of us hope !
he could have forced it he choose not to
ReplyDeletefor respect off the club
so no sympathy from me
Ahhh....
ReplyDeleteProbably because he's exclusively a winger. I think BR is trying to find someone who can play striker too, like Remy.
ReplyDeleteForlan is 35 now, playing in Japan - doesn't have the energy to keep up anymore - still has a decent shot though.
ReplyDeleteOsvaldo never had the kind of numbers Cavani does - he managed 3 goals in the prem in 13 games. Left because he's a douche, not because he didn't exactly reproduce his form from Italy.
ReplyDeleteCavani too, according to his agent. Liverpool are aiming high.
ReplyDeleteReus - FFS!!
ReplyDeleteHow? If a player ultimately isn't interested what exactly can you do? Not to mention that if a player isn't interested why would we want them? I certainly wouldn't want a player at the club who could be convinced by money. It's important in the first place that the player actually want to come here so what convincing can really be done?
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to suggest Liverpool do something wrong when we don't get these players because it's harder to admit the player just doesn't want to come to the club that we all love. We don't want that to be true so we usually make someone a scapegoat, blame someone like Ayre for being incompetent or Rodgers for not making enough effort. It's completely ridiculous, as fans we haven't got the first clue what's going on in these processes and if Liverpool are doing more or less than any other club. To me the way some fans react is little different to an spoiled 11 year old girl getting upset when her rich daddy doesn't buy her something she wants.
he gets plenty wrong. he probably just has a good relationship with some club officials, it's fairly common with some journalists.
ReplyDeleteThey've always had two strikers, Muller is a Striker ..
ReplyDeleteit's not going to happen. have you heard anything about the club being interested? if it was going to happen it would be more than just a rumour. Liverpool either haven't made an enquiry or Reus simply isn't interested in moving.
ReplyDeleteHow many starts did Coutinho/Sahko make? Will Markoviv and Lallana start together?
ReplyDeletehow is that important sturridge, sterling and coutinho are too good we would ahve to spend 60m to get a player that can take sterling or coutinhos place
ReplyDeleteOkay you don't like Rafa, for ME, Rafa delivered where it mattered. Lots of finals, lots of European nights. Even in his last season, he was minutes away from a Europa League final. Buck was VERY fortunate, to have LUIS SUAREZ, without him, he'd probably be gone by now.
ReplyDeletegreat name but huge cost with big injury feels too risky for me. His wages alone will piss off the rest of the team unless he scored 40 goals. Lavezzi and Bony for that money, sell Borini and the other extras. keep Ibe, Peterson, Suso on the team. Say goodbye to allen, Johnson and Lucas.
ReplyDeleteto be fair rafa was lucky to have gerrard as much as rodgers was to have suarez
ReplyDeleteremember gerrard 05-09 unstoppable
He's not signing a new contract - Dortmund aren't interested in sellling now, but it's going to happen. Bayern..?! Another to their main rivals..? We're playing Dortmund on Sunday, this is a great opportunity to sit down and hash out a deal. Okay, the Hummels rumours leaving have gone cold, but how's about a cut-price offer for Agger as well as Ilori on loan, or loan out Ibe who'd suit their technical counter-attacking side. £220k p/w on a loan player, I'd rather we paid Reus that money and had a permanent signing. I know it's a long shot, but make them an offer where both clubs benefit. We've too many players, let's sort them out.
ReplyDeleteplus falcao is apparently 2 years older then he says he is
ReplyDeletereus will be a dream,
ReplyDelete................................................reus
lallana.....................................coutinho.................sterling

wow ! did not include sturridge because he is always injured
I just don't think Reus wants to leave. Think about it - he has this supposed clause in his contract and he's clearly a brilliant player. It's already late in the window so why is he still there? I'm sure plenty of clubs have made an enquiry and what I think has happened is that Dortmund have simply said "no thanks" and hung up the phone. If it was as simple as just meeting the asking price he'd already be gone, but he's not, so I suspect he doesn't want to leave.
ReplyDeleteFair point, but 2009
ReplyDelete£60M .. nah, maybe for Muller
ReplyDeleteSo, they don't want to sell, or he doesn't want to leave..? I'd argue it's the former, as he hasn't come out and committed himself to the club either. Quite the opposite. I'm not surprised they're reluctant as money isn't enough in this transfer window, which is why I'd propose compensation in numbers also...even if only on loan.
ReplyDeleteThat particular player also happened to play for us the previous season and we didn't finish anywhere near the top 4. Yes he was good but the fact remains that he alone is NOT the reason we finished 2nd last year.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I did like Rafa and was behind him til the day he left. I don't think that liking him makes what I said any less true. All I was saying was, to be completely writing Rodgers off before a ball has been kicked is ridiculous. He may have had Suarez who no doubt was the driving force behind our title charge last year but pretty much every player in the first team squad has improved exponentially under Rodgers. He's got the team comfortable playing multiple formations and our players are also positionally flexible. Was Suarez responsible for all that too? Or did Rodgers build his team to get the best out of Suarez and turned him into a superstar. Suarez is twice the player now that he was when Rodgers arrived it's also worth adding.
ReplyDeleteBasically the club has made strides beyond our wildest dreams in the last couple of years both on and off the pitch so I just don't get all the negativity
lol
ReplyDeleteI hope you are right, but without Suarez, I doubt he will succeed. The defensive aspects of our game, will then be even more exposed. Lallana and Markovic and to a much lesser extent Can, are nice signings, but for me, they were not required to the same extent as a keeper, full backs and a defensive midfielder.
ReplyDeleteLol nah I'm not gonna dream. I wish to see Heskey back at Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteI third that!
ReplyDeleteeven if we tried signing this guy earlier, madrid is where he seems to be heading, but stranger things have happened in football before
ReplyDeleteIt does not sound a good deal to me. A player who is 28 years of age and just recovered from CL injury, plus that ridiculous 220k weekly wage. Most important point of all, if Real Madrid is in for the player as well, we should simply move on the next target.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it's officially a tradition of LFC by now, loves leaving things late and eventually making either last-minute panic purchase or one step better, no purchase at all. So where's that LB of Moreno? As for a striker, the most viable option right now is Wilfried Bony. Can we sign any established striker outside of EPL? Nah it's just pipe-dream for now.
Actually fans around the world are supplementing a big chunk of these ridiculous wages. EPL is no longer free-to-air in quite a number of countries and for those countries that are already not free-to-air, the subscription fees will be revised yearly or bi yearly.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, it's really ridiculous for sportsmen like that to earn 200-300x more than a normal graduate of the same age in England. The economy is not good in the country and generally so in the entire Europe. But right now lots of unproven/mediocre players at slightly reputable clubs or some one-season wonders will likely cost 20-25 mil pounds. The more scary thing is that fans around the world have already accepted that this is the trade norm.
Yes certainly so If Glen Johnson is not properly replaced and no established striker that can contribute half of what LS had contributed last season.
ReplyDeleteDS is really good when he is playing. But chances of him playing say, 35 games in 4 competitions? Seriously slim, my friend.
ReplyDeleteYes that's very true second half we owned that. Preseason Aspas looked hot to trot ended up a very poor acquisition
ReplyDeleteBony just doesn't excite me at all. Remy was a master stroke for 24 hrs.
ReplyDeleteThat's the worrisome part. If glassman is not playing, are we expecting Raheem Sterling to perform his role?
ReplyDeleteGood point. Unfortunately Hendo, Allen and Countinho really need to up their goal rally's as their extremely poor
ReplyDeleteSeriously my favorite LFC striker is Robbie Fowler...
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show how nobody has faith in Lambert. It's like we've only one injury prone striker in Sturridge
ReplyDeleteFalcao is never coming to Liverpool, as many are saying, he's likely to go to Madrid, although I'm not sure how he'd fit in. Talk about Liverpool after Cavani, I really hope not. He was always sticking the boot in when Suarez was with us, and to be honest, he's way over rated. He was mediocre in the World Cup once Suarez was banned. He's not the player we need right now.
ReplyDeleteRafa did lol and he wasted an absolute shed load so let's not. Go down that road
ReplyDeleteI think Rodgers has to take some of the credit for Suarez goal tally he wasn't prolific before he came in
