Done Deal? 'Unstoppable' £20m star on verge of signing for LFC. 2-day delay due to visa issues

Benfica attacker Lazar Markovic is reportedly in the process of undergoing a medical ahead of securing a £20m transfer to Anfield.

A report in the Daily Mail today claims:

"Lazar Markovic is currently undergoing tests at Spire Liverpool Hospital and the club's Melwood training ground.

"Markovic will sign a long-term contract and is likely to be officially announced within the next 24 hours".

'Unstoppable' Markovic was supposed to have a medical on Saturday, but according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola 'visa issues' - now resolved - caused a two-day delay.

I'm not thrilled about the transfer fee, but I'm choosing to be positive about this deal. Markovic looks like a potentially exciting player, and he seems to have all the attributes to make an impact at LFC.

Additionally, after Rodgers' long list of mistakes in the transfer market, things surely have to change for the better at some point? LFC's boss is an intelligent guy, and he'll surely learn quickly from his errors.

There's no denying it, though: spending £20m on a comparatively untested 20-year old is a massive risk, but it's hopefully one that will pay off.

  1. As long as he does not bite and we can get seventy million for him if Real Madrid come calling should be okay!

  2. Yep, let's hope Ayre and the comitee don't waste the money, and rodgers get all the players he needs :)

  3. A transfer link between Liverpool and Lukaku is starting to develop

  4. I've got my fingers crossed that this turns out to be a smart signing. But with Arsenal supposedly about to secure another terrific signing (Khedira) for the relative bargain price of about 23 million I squids I do believe Rodgers needs to up his transfer game. In other words, no more scrabbling about in the dirt for overpriced Southampton and Swansea players.

Rodgers and the scouts have their balls on the line with this one. Next year we most likely won't see the best of him though with him being only 20 and first taste of premier league football

    Hope not.

  7. With a £20m price tag, one can only assume that he has been signed to feature quite a bit this coming season.

  8. Really cannot see it when we already have Sturridge.

  9. ...We need another striker!

  10. We have just signed one, well, he can play as a striker. Reckon we will start concentrating on our defence after Markovic has been confirmed.

  11. But hopefully not Lovren now with Southampton's valuation standing at a ludicrous 25+ million. We should look elsewhere and let Saints keep their unhappy player.

  12. Left back is priority.

  13. Absolutely. By reports it ooks like the Moreno deal is still on. Very useful going forward, but I'm not sure he's the right man to help shore up our porous defence.

  14. Forget about Reus
Not going to happen. It was a Tweet which got out of hand.

  15. Lukakus better and has decent EPL form and is a proven scorer not 7 in 49 games with Benfica.

  16. I hope it comes to fruition cause theatre will be a statement. Funny thing is when it comes to super stars as Reus people are quick to say it's not true but when it comes to players we all know it's not a LFC level player we don't get that same swiftness of denial.

  17. Eh?
That's like Monty Python's Life of Brian :
"Only the true saviour would deny his own divinity"
He's not coming. Deal with it.

  18. Let's give the player a chance? And in any case, Mourinho is going to let Lukaku join LFC? Ha.

  19. Yes, very strange that we weren't even in the running for such a good player

    ReplyDelete
  20. But am sure you believe we are going for Bony and Rodriguez right?

  21. Why would he not if Liverpool offers the best money and after all he does not rate him highly enough to keep him.
They just sold Mata to United you would think it would not bother him too much.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Skybet have just slashed your Nan's odds of signing for Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  23. There are doubts on him as he has had long runs with injury.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Knowing Rodgers, He would be probably loaned out sooner rather than later. Why sign players and then loan them out is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bring in Lukaku. He is class and has shown his versitality several times by playing on the right wing, great shooting and he can hold up the ball well. Sign him up BR

    ReplyDelete
  26. There are no doubts about his capabilities as player for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well there is one thing I can say about him, he did have assists last season. Not sure where this 7-0 figure came from but I have actually, with my own eyes, seen him get two assists. They may be the only ones though :-) I'll be honest here, I'm not at all happy with the players we're going after because it again seems like we're going for numbers rather than impact players. That said, if we're going to waste the 75 million we got for Suarez on young talent, we could do worse than Markovic and Origi. And might I then suggest we spend 10 million on Jordy Clasie from Feyenoord? 23 and bossing midfield like he was Xabi Alonso.

  28. Mourinho sold Mata to a UTD team who were struggling and at whopping £40m. How could Mourinho refuse that? Is mata worth £40m million?

LFC are back with or without Suarez. Mourinho will not sell Lukaku to a team which finished above Chelsea last season. Plus we have Sturridge who is better than Lukaku anyway.

  29. Nice to see you corrected the price from 25M Pounds to 20M. As we argued about the figure in a previous article. Really excited about this signing.Good enough for regular first team football, not a star but has all the tools to develop into one.

  30. I heard £18.9M :-)

  31. Money in the Bank5:09 pm, July 14, 2014

We have money in our pockets but no one of real quality that is available at the prices we what to pay, apart from maybe Marco Reus (£35 million).

Think we'll have to go the Porto, Ath Madrid route and make the striker we buy a superstars(like Suarez). The strikers I think that could make a step up under the tutelage of BR and could be bought for relatively cheap...

Jürgen Locadia- Has attribute that suit the English game, but very raw.

Paulo Dybala- Seems like he'll be a striker in the mold of Lavessi or Aguero.

    still raw.

Viktor Fischer- He use to have more potential than Sterling as a youngest and was a clinical goal scorer. Maybe BR could work the Raheem Sterling magic on him.

  32. Wait just a moment! How did Suarez not win player of the tournament?! I'm flummoxed. Truly flummoxed.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bale was costly because more than one clubs were interested in him. Also Bale is young and is yet to hit his peak. Where as Suarez has been at his peak for 2 years now and is not getting any younger. His stamina and physical attributes can only stay stable or go down. 75 m is decent return.

  34. Just saw Manyoo sign 750m deal with adidas. Holy Shit! They will blow us out of water . Now lets look at the picture. ManC and Chelsea will surely be in top 4. ManU with this money can buy Vidal( heard its done), DiMaria etc. So Manu in 3rd place.
4th place: Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton.. Arsenal is so strong than us. :(
I am so so afraid now. What do u thnik guys. I cant think of any positives right now. Links to Bony aint helping much. Someone pls help me calm down. :( :( :(

    ReplyDelete
  35. He is too costly for his abilities. Not worth 40m even

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hmm he has though added enough notes of caution to call upon later should this transfer go wrong. Let's hope the positive comments are those that are referenced later.

    ReplyDelete
  37. my concern is rogers seems to have tunnel vision in regards certain players and clubs and we pay well over the odds remy 10m or bony 20 plus is no contest ......

    ReplyDelete
  38. If we improve on last seasons league position we will be okay. We just have to button up the back and keep going forward. Yes Suarez has gone but Keegan left and King Kenny took the throne. I am sure we will be fine! YNWA!

    ReplyDelete
  39. You have to be realistic. Rodriguez and Reus can pretty much pick any team in the world to play for. Do you really think they're gonna want to join a team in their first season back in the champions league or a team that challenges to win it every year. We need to solidify ourselves as a champions league team before we can think about signing europe's A list players

    ReplyDelete
  40. it's never too late for you to change side, I am embarrassed that Liverpool has supporters like you,

    ReplyDelete
  41. Right now I'd rather have Rodriguez. Last season and next, if he hadn't finally burnt his bridges with British football fans in general and the media here, I'd have Suarez, but there's just no way he could of stayed. Pipe dream but I'd rather have Rodriguez.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Exactly. Reus plays in front of 83,500 fans every week at Dortmund who have consistently challenged for major honours over the last few years. He's only leaving that for one of the elite clubs

  43. Jaimie IMO I believe messi was deserving of the award because whilst he did not play to his best( and his best is miles better than anyone else's) he carried a team to the final which none of the others did.
