Brendan Rodgers is reportedly on the verge of completing Liverpool's first signing of the summer.
According to German newspaper SportBild today:
* A deal for 21-year old Bayer Leverkusen star Emre Can is 'as good as done'.
* The Reds have agreed on a €12 transfer fee.
This development follows recent reports claiming that Rodgers had personally scouted Can in the latter stages of the season.
Responding to the Bild story, Raphael Honigstein, ESPN's German football expert, tweeted:
Can is is incredibly versatile, and is comfortable playing as a midfielder, a centre-back, or a left-back, and given Rodgers' love of flexible players, it's no surprise that he targeted the German youth international. When asked about his preferred position in a recent interview, Can told reporters:
"I see myself as a central midfielder, but I do not care. I play wherever coach and team need me".
Can's stats for the current season:
* Played: 36
* Goals: 3
* Assists: 3
* Yellow Cards: 13
* Red Cards: 1
* Passing accuracy: 78%
* Aerial duels won: 59%
* Tackles: 2.58 per game
* Interceptions: 1.4 per game
* Clearances: 1.5 per game
* Key passes: 0.6 per game
* Dispossessed: 47 times in 36 games
Stats: OPTA
Former Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes believes that Can has the potential to be a future star, but only if he applies himself. He recently told reporters:
"He [Can] is very talented, but he still has much to learn. Between what he is accustomed to and what we do here, they are different worlds. [Can has] great potential. If he is willing to learn, then he can make his way."
Hardly a ringing endorsement. Hopefully, Can will be 'willing to learn' under Rodgers, and won't go the same way as Sahin.

that turn though
ReplyDeleteThey say his best position is DM, maybe he is Lucas replacement, and only 21, plenty of scope to improve rapidly, when BR starts coaching him.
ReplyDeleteam i the only one who wants us to go for the "meal"( finished products, sanchez and shaqiri) as we have soo much "uncooked food" in our fridge(bench and academy).
ReplyDeleteshaqiri is 22 doubt he's a finished product and hm i know what your saying but dashing out millions for unproven talent especially in our situation not such a smart idea example how many trophies did barca win with neymar?
ReplyDeleteLove this player, but he's not a finished product yet... Bayern has this buyback clause on him though (would that effect the transfer at all?)
ReplyDeletehe's a physical presence as well
ReplyDeleteHis agent would know all loopholes, before a sale. Then again, I wont believe it till I see him with Ayre/Rodgers signing a contract.
ReplyDeleteGood player & in a position we need quality reinforcements. He's young, with plenty of scope to his game as is BR's requirement & after seeing the player myself a few times, i think it's a good deal at the price stated. Hope we get confirmation of the deal soon from the player & LFC. It's a tough decision regarding Lucas & knowone can deny that because we all felt he was undroppable at one point in time so it will depend on the size of the offer we get i think but imo he should be retained for competition & to give him the chance to rediscover his previous form in what will be a more advanced position than what he's been asked to play in previously. Glad to see we're getting some business done early nowadays!
ReplyDeleteJFT96, YNWA.
i share your believe but barca didin't really have a plan for neymar(albeit bad coaching
ReplyDelete;pairing 2 players who best play alone,sought of--messi,neymar ), the reason being that pedro had been more lethal even from the bench , but we need a winger on the left who can dazzle like sterling and if you've watched shaq or sanchez ,o boy o boy , we would really get results with either one of the 2.cos we could get shaq for around 15mill(if he forced a transfer..lol) so for 12mill for emre!@##
so far media has been positive on the two with daily star and the bild stating that we're going for sanchez and shaquiri respectively i would love an extra winger but we need that steel in midfield so far can looks good and an added lallana can't do our midfield any wrongs right
ReplyDeleteB.R said he doesn't want squad players.
ReplyDeleteCan this guy walk into the first team of LFC?
oh god dont start with the dross already!
ReplyDelete"Walk into"? No, but he can VERY strongly challenge what we have, and he's only 21. He looks loooads better than Allen, and much more assured than Lucas imo.
ReplyDeletePlease People stop Faking this NEWS I've heard this a couple of times even last year when "Eriksen move to Liverpool a 'DONE' deal."
ReplyDeletePlease stop being so gullible my fellow Reds.. this is just stupid speculation.

Yes IMO he can! Thing about this guy is that he is tailor made for that defensive midfield position that Brendan so desperately asks of Gerrard which quite frankly would be a huge fail if e were to play there in CL. Range of passing is good, vision good, not afraid to get stuck in. £10m for him is a steal! Sign him up
ReplyDeleteI don't get this " for the right price" shit, surely that shouldn't come into it.
ReplyDeleteIn no way am I comparing them, but his playing style reminds me of a young Zidane!
ReplyDeleteWell i just hope this is the end of the road for Lucas and Allen Lucas has been a great servant its just a shame about the injuries.
ReplyDeleteWell, you are comparing them, but just their style, not ability ;)
ReplyDeleteBR should focus on defends and defensive midfielder area first prioritys....get Micah Richard also develop Andre Wisdom at rightback, sign Steven Caulker's and call Tiago Llori from loan to strenght the central defender, get Alberto Moreno at leftback...for defensive midfielder get William Carvalho and develop Will Hughes as backup...
ReplyDeletefor attacking, sign Lallana, Shaqiri and Alexis Sancezs...
sell Agger, Reina, Lucas, Aspas, Enrique, Alberto, Assaidi, Suso, Taore and let Cissokho and Moses go....
I thought we are into finished products? Not developing. The stats hardly show he can go straight into our 11. Having said that he played 36 games in that season, a sure started in Leverkusen. Perhaps the stats are not showing everything he's got.
ReplyDeleteA bit raw from what I've seen. Not sure if he is what we need. Good potential though. Strong physique. Good footballing education from Bayern presumably.
ReplyDeleteA'LE'ICOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteCan Can play this role though? THAT is the question.
ReplyDeleteLFC like many other clubs have may have watched Emre Can but I am struggling to see how he is going to improve our squad and is why I do not think we will be signing him.
ReplyDeleteIt's in Bild so I'm starting to believe it. They are a bunch of diddies over there but they are usually very well informed. Not a bad player and the price seems about right. I'd still be expecting a couple of finished articles for midfield and defense though.
ReplyDeleteHasn't Bayern got a buy back clause in his contract until 2015? Sure this is why Roma couldn't sign him. I hope not, I'd take him any day.
ReplyDeleteIf this is the best we can do fair such an important position then pardon my french but were Fckd!
ReplyDeletebayern has a buy-back-clause in his contract! what would happen if we buy him? can someone explain me please?
ReplyDeleteluks like a talented lad...will be a gud defensive midfielder for us if we buy him...12M worth a bid for this guy
ReplyDeletehe's turkey scott parker... always turning the ball
ReplyDelete'We all felt he was undroppable'? Speak for yourself mate! I never rated him, for one.
ReplyDeleteLoads better than Allen doesn't mean a great deal.
ReplyDeleteThis is a signing on similar level with Alberto, Aspas, Borini.. Hope Rogers finally found one that can hit the ground running. If that happens, with amazing Lallana, and at least solid left back, plus selling of couple of players, Borini and Suso- I am satisfied.
ReplyDeleteAnd if we sell one of cb's(I wouldn't), we byu another for the same moey or couple of mill more. That probably gives money for another player or two within our financial strenght.
Finally..
ReplyDeleteyou are in minority, trust me. and he did say 'at one point'.
ReplyDeleteprobably not.. You must have watched him, what's your opinion?
ReplyDeleteA Bayern representative added: “Karl-Heinz Rummenigge [Bayern CEO] has already said he wants him back in a few years and said the only reason they sanctioned the move to Leverkusen was so he could get some match practice.
ReplyDelete“For that reason we don’t believe he’ll go to Liverpool. Leverkusen need the consent of Bayern and Bayern doesn’t want to give it.”
I will definitely keep Sakho, Agger, Skrtel and Toure for next season. All 4 can rotate as we might possibly play 60 games. And as a backup in case of serious injuries to them, I will also keep Kelly and Wisdom who are versatile enough to play as right back and hence backup for Johnson and Flanagan. Sebastian Coates (I like him) and Tiago Ilori to be loaned out to a premiere league club. Jose Enrique is again someone I rate highly and he along with Flanagan will be our trusted left back with B. Smith as a backup. (Jack Robinson on loan as he is still recovering from serious injury). So defensively I think we are good.
ReplyDeleteCD :- Skrtel, Toure, Agger, Sakho, Kelly, Wisdom (Coates and Illori out on loan to EPL clubs if possible)
RB:- Johnson, Flanagan, Kelly, Wisdom (Mclaughlin on loan again).
LB:- Jose Enrique, Flanagan, Smith (Robinson on loan again).
If we sell Glen Johnson then we should buy a fullback who can play on both the flanks and effectively being a backup/starter on either side.
Midfielders:-
I think Stevie G has occupied the DM/DLP/Anchor role and Lucas Leiva has been forced to recreate his style of play and change his playing position. I feel people have been harsh on Lucas. He was one of the key player of our team in that DM role until Stevie G made it his own. Now Lucas is told to undo all that and start playing forward. People forget that he was made to play as DM because of his slow pace and ineffectiveness going forward.
I think due to numerous matches next season, Stevie G will not be available for entire 60 matches and Lucas will be a good backup for Stevie G in that role of DM. He wouldn't mind rotation as well and is already settled unlike some new DM coming in and made to sit on the bench.
I would like 2 midfield signings, versatile midfielder who can play as DM and CM and another who can play as CM and AM.
BUY:- Diame and Rakitic.
DM (Anchor role):- Gerrard as first choice
Lucas (rotation)
Diame (Backup)
CM (box to box midfielder):- Rakitic first choice
Henderson (rotation)
Allen/Diame (backup)
AM (Playmaker):- Coutinho first choice
Rakitic (rotation)
Suso(backup)
Forwards:-
We have best strikers in the EPL but we will need at least one more as a backup and I think Borini will do the job. We have limited options on the flanks and we will need couple of versatile forwards who can play in either flanks or through the middle.
BUY:- Antoine Griezmann and Lacazette/Konoplyanka
RW:- Sterling as first choice
Lacazette (rotation)
Suso (backup)
LW:- Griezmann (first choice)
Sterling (rotation)
Ibe (backup)
Strikers:- Suarez and Sturridge as first choice
Borini (backup)
LOAN OUT:- Illori, Coates, Robinson, Mclaughlin, Luis Alberto, Joao Teixeira
SELL:- Aspas
As mentioned before, I wouldn't mind selling Glen Johnson and replace with young and versatile full back and I also wouldn't mind selling Joe Allen and keeping Joao Teixeira in his place.
hell yeah, bayern clearly pulled leverkusen over the barrel with that deal!
ReplyDeletei've seen can a few times, hes a good footballer, but far from the finished product. he's not a lucas type of DM, can be very harsh in the tackles, if you expect him to be the ball-winner type in your team youre wrong... however he has massive potential combined with strong technique. I'd love to have him in the team. hes like a more skilled shelvey :)
If Brendan can get the best out of Henderson, Sterling and Sturridge then he can out of this guy.
ReplyDeleteLooks a good player with technical ability and imagination from what I can tell from the clip. The profile of our recent targets in the market were of quality in Myki, Salah, Willian, Costa and Kono so if LFC have bid then I'm in favour.
ReplyDeleteWe were being told Luis Alberto was the next big thing last summer. We spent 6.8 million on him yet he added nothing to our squad.
ReplyDeleteWe already have Alberto, Suso, Ibe, Teixeira as young talent.
We need to be buying proven quality players like Mascherano - that's what we were told Champions League football would bring.
So basically you want us to ship 50 goals again.....
ReplyDeleteThat's nothing to be proud of.
ReplyDeleteSpot on with that.
ReplyDeleteB Rodgers should use the £8-£11M on bringing in one of these three mobile classy solid strong tough tackling midfielders to club in the summer instead of E Can(21) who will actually protect the back four:
ReplyDelete1: Y M'Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan
2: F Reges(26) Of Porto
3: B Matuidi(26) Of PSG
B Rodgers needs to ship out these 13 players( including 2 loan stars) which would bring him £45-£55M on sales
GK: B Jones(32) GK: P Reina(31
CB: S Coates(23) CB: K Toure(33) RB: M Kelly(23)
DM: L Leiva(27) CM: J Allen(24) AM: L Alberto(21)
RW: O Assaidi(25) FD: I Aspas(26) FD: F Borini(22)
Loans: LB: A Cissokho(27) LW: V Moses(22)
And the main priorities before anything else should be these 6 players:
1: GK: A Mccarthy(24) Of Reading Or M Vorm(30) Of Swansea for £3-£6M
2: CB: D Lovren(24) Of Southampton Or S De Vrij(22) Of Feyenoord for £10-£16M
3: CB: S Caulker(22) Of Cardiff for £5-£7M
4: LB: B Davies(20) Of Swansea for £4-£7M
5: DM: Y M'Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan for £8-£10M
6: CM: I Rakitic(25) Of Seville Or A Herrera(24) Of A Bilbao for £18-£28M
Those 6 players should definately be brought to club this summer as KEY priorities, with those 6 players we should/would not be conceding 50 goals in the premiership and we will be harder to break down away from home in league and Europe.
Those 6 players will bring us more solidity at back and in centre of the park. There would also be greater competition for places at back and in centre of park, so complacency will rarely creep in. And there would be good class quality options to bring off the bench:
And the 4 luxury attacking creative players B Rodgers should bring to club this summer also are:
7: RW: I Munian(21) Of A Bilbao Or Y Konoplyanka(25) Of Dnipro for £14-£18M
8: AM: A Lallana(26) Of Southampton Or Firminho of Hoffenheim for £15-£22M
9: LW: X Shaqiri(22) Of B Munich for £8-£12M
10: FD: L Remy(27) Of QPR Or W Bony(25) Of Swansea for £7-£20M
