'LFC are interested': Liverpool make official 'offer' for €9m assist-king. Next signing?

Left-back is a priority position for Liverpool to fill this summer, and it seems that one of the names on Rodgers' list is Fenerbahçe left-back Caner Erkin, who continues to be scouted by Liverpool FC.

In February, Reports claimed that Liverpool - and a number of other Premier League clubs - are tracking the 26-year old, and now, Erkin's Agent, Batur Altıparmak, has confirmed LFC's interest.

Speaking to Turkish newspaper Fotospor this week, Altıparmak claimed that 'two clubs from England have made offers' for Erkin, adding:

"Liverpool and Chelsea are interested. We have received offers, but have not held direct talks yet"

In January, President Aziz Yildirim also made it clear that he wants to keep Caner. At a press conference in January, he told reporters:

"This season he [Erkin] is playing very well. We're happy with his performances, and want him to stay. The initial contract pay rates [for his contract] were lower than usual, but we'll get it right, and make it up to him"

Some info about Caner:

* Can play left-back or left-wing.
* Predominantly left-footed; not so good with his right.
* 26 apps for the Turkey national team.
* 130 apps for Fenerbahçe.
* Averages 38 apps per season.
* 5 major trophies so far.

* 11 assists this season for Fenerbahçe, which is great for a defender.

By all accounts, Erkin seems to have a bit of a temper on him:

* NOV 2012: Fined TL 20,000 for 'unsporting conduct' on the field after receiving a straight red card.

* OCT 2013: Stormed off down the tunnel after being subbed in the 38th minute of a Super Lig game. Fined €20,000 by his club.

After this incident, Technical Director Ersun Lateral warned Erskin about his conduct. He told reporters:

"We will not let anyone break the team spirit we have here. No one is indispensable"

I have to admit, I'm not convinced. Erkin strikes me as Jose Enrique-level player; a steady performer; someone to make up the numbers, rather than a player who will come in and make a huge difference at left-back.

with what i can see from the provided short clip of the player, i will say he is way ahead of enrique and mediocre johnson in creativity

  3. Yeah, he is a left back but can play as a CB too. Lisbon will let him leave for around €9m. Quite tall, fast and defensively sound.

Him and Caulker (6m buyout clause) will total to around £15m.

  4. Great bit of business right there, though a Erkin + Musacchio would not be all that bad either.

  5. I'd happily take Ashley cole and move Flanagan to right back (Johnson looks like he's finished to me). I don't understand why we need creative fullbacks. We've scored 101 league goals whilst our defending has cost us the title.

  6. Rojo and Caulker would be great signings but I fear that It is a step too big for Caulker. We are in desperate need of a 'leader' that matches his qualities in defending. A Vincent Kompany in other words. Schalke's Benedict Howedes is a great shout IMO. An established german international and club captain.

  7. I think Wolfsburgs LB Rodriguez is a much more solid signing. Younger, bags of ability, set piece taker, a leader in many ways. solid defender. tactically very sound.

  8. Our problems is that our defenders cannot defend. We need a LB who can defend first before we think about attacking.

  9. sell: jones, kelly, johnson, assaidi, agger (only because im certain we will), lucas (same as agger), aspas. loan out alberto. keep suso and borini
buy: backup gk, rb, cb, lb, dm, cm/am, winger. theres so many names which we've been linked with and could improve our team so i really don't know where to start. so long as these positions are catered for we should have a great squad. we simply MUST have two new starting full backs next season and erkin would be an improvement on what we have but there are also other better options out there. i would also like coates to be given a chance in pre-season but don't think he will be given the opportunity.

  10. i agree about johnson but i dont want cole. he is past his best and his wages will be massive, plus i question his attitude. filipe luis is one of the best but probably unrealisitc. also imo flanagan isnt good enough to be a regular starter so another right back is needed. even cissokho is better than flanagan and no-one will convince me otherwise.

  11. Rojo (actually spelt Rodgo) is just Brendan's nickname.

  12. Didn't see anything of his defensive skills. ? Thought it was our defense that needs working on not the amount of goals we score ???

  13. In summer we need to sell 10 players: They should bring in 35-40M

    GK: P Reina(31) GK: B jones(32)
    CB: S Coates(23) CB: K Toure(33) RB: M Kelly(23) DM: L Leiva(27)
    AM: L Alberto(21) RW: O Assaidi(25)
    FD: I Aspas(26) FD: F Borini(22)

Plus the two poor loan signings need to be gone:
    LB: A Cissokho(26) LW: V Moses(22)

And Caner Erkin should not be brought to the club at all.
These are the 6 Defensive players who should be brought to club this summer:

    1: GK: A Mccarthy(24) Of Reading for £4-£7M

    2: CB: D Lovren(24) Of Southampton for £12-£15M

    3: CB: S Caulker(22) Of Cardiff for £4-£7M

    4: RB: N Clyne(23) Of Southampton for £5-£8M

    5: LB: D Rose(23) Of Tottenham for £4-£6M

6: DM: M'Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan for £8-£10M

With those 6 defensive players at club to bring more class, quality, quality competition for place, i am sure we will not concede 51 goals again next season. With those 6 players and a fit J Enrique (27) back full fit and injury free next season, club should not concede more than 40 goals in the league.

  14. No idea, but this transfer window should be a mix and match of proven talent and potential talent. The former being the experienced and the latter being the future
