Left-back is a priority position for Liverpool to fill this summer, and it seems that one of the names on Rodgers' list is Fenerbahçe left-back Caner Erkin, whose Agent has once again confirmed that the Reds are interested in a summer transfer.
Speaking to Turkish newspaper Fotospor in April, Erkin's Agent, Batur Altıparmak, revealed that Liverpool and Chelsea 'have made offers' for Erkin, and this week, he once again confirmed the Reds' interest. He told reporters:
"It is great for [Erkin's] confidence that clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea are showing an interest”
Altıparmak also revealed that Erkin will hold discussions with Fenerbahce before ay decision is made:
"We haven't agreed anything with Fenerbahce. We will hold talks with the club tomorrow."
In January, President Aziz Yildirim also made it clear that he wants to keep Erkin:
"This season he [Erkin] is playing very well. We're happy with his performances, and want him to stay. The initial contract pay rates [for his contract] were lower than usual, but we'll get it right, and make it up to him"
Some info about €9m-rated Caner:
* Can play left-back or left-wing.
* Predominantly left-footed; not so good with his right.
* 26 apps for the Turkey national team.
* 130 apps for Fenerbahçe.
* Averages 38 apps per season.
* 5 major trophies so far.
* 11 assists this season for Fenerbahçe, which is great for a defender.
By all accounts, Erkin seems to have a bit of a temper on him:
* NOV 2012: Fined TL 20,000 for 'unsporting conduct' on the field after receiving a straight red card.
* OCT 2013: Stormed off down the tunnel after being subbed in the 38th minute of a Super Lig game. Fined €20,000 by his club.
After this incident, Technical Director Ersun Lateral warned Erskin about his conduct. He told reporters:
"We will not let anyone break the team spirit we have here. No one is indispensable"
I have to admit, I'm not convinced. Erkin strikes me as Jose Enrique-level player; a steady performer; someone to make up the numbers, rather than a player who will come in and make a huge difference at left-back.
The Reds need a top class left-back, not another stop-gap who'll start well, fade away, and then need to be replaced again next year. Of course, I may be wrong, and Erkin may turn out to be an inspired signing.

a cdm: emre can fits the bill,he can play in teh diamond and is very versatile as well
a lb: alberto moreno is perfect he reminds me of evra , without teh controversy
a cb: dejan lovern a top center back will create sakho competition and that is what is needed
a gk: michel vorm , mignolet can be back up

Can rodgers unleash the class of 2014 like ferguson did before in 94 ?
ReplyDeletebrannigan ,rossiter and ibe have all outgrown the reserve team and all should be in the squad at least
imagine:
....................................suarez
lallana.......................................................sterling
...............................henderson
......................rossiter...............gerrard
bench: sturridge,ibe,coutinho,brannigan/allen
selling lucas, borini, aspas, alberto, assaidi for a total fee of 25m
which will almost pay of total fee of lambert and lallana
Drop all MF negotiations with every other MF. Bid 30M for Fabregas now.
ReplyDeleteno way he does not fit liverpool
ReplyDeleteway to slow like lucas
we need high intensity players , plus
who wants a barca reject?
IMO Ivan Peresic is a player BR should be looking at. Consistent goal scorer for many years. Plays AM or Wing. Good player very skilled flying under the radar. Probably get him for 7m. Great squad member.
ReplyDeleteBuy Ptr Cech and Migs can warm the bench
ReplyDeleteWould like to see LFC consider Ptr Cech. Moanino has said he's for sale.
ReplyDeleteWe are not getting him. This is paper talk and his agent putting his player on the market for offers to come in. Moreno is our no.1 target, should we not get him, Cole might be an option for the short term, but hope we go for Coentrao should the Moreno deal not come off, but for Coentrao wage might be a huge stumbling block
ReplyDeletenot really...
ReplyDeleteI'm getting worried, if that's the king of 'top' player liverpool is looking to win the tilte/champion's league i'm afraid we're in for 2002/2009 all over again.
ReplyDeleteEakin = Waste of time and thought".........
ReplyDeleteRossiter is like 16 or 17...have some patience!!
ReplyDelete@bill the drill...don't be so cynical...Moses was never given a fair chance to excel at lfc...did u watch his first game for us?...why then would so much potential shown in the first game disappear?..there sure's got to be something wrong then
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to be satisfied by our new striker.
ReplyDeleteTorres did it. Baros did it. All our strikers have to. It is a hazing process.
It is why they all leave as broken men.
Agree with you re Coentrao.
ReplyDeleteWe shouldn't sell Skaho, Borini and Allen because they're decent squad players at the least.
ReplyDeleteIts a lot about morale and psychology than just quality because the same ManUre were 1st one season and the next 7th.
ReplyDeleteRhodes will cost more
ReplyDeleteRhodes will want to be No.1 striker
Rhodes is still developing and will want game time
Rhodes isn't a Liverpool fan
For Lambert, swap his name with the above and read the opposite.
I think PSG, Monaco, Real Madrid or some other big club will swoop on for him than anyone else.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure he started the Champions League final ahead of Marcelo, who changed the game and I would prefer at Anfield.
ReplyDeleteI would still like us to sign Will Hughes, especially as Derby didn't make promotion. He is a quality player who everyone seems to have forgotten about. I don't think his price will be particularly prohibitive either and I for one will be very annoyed if we allow another team to sign him.
ReplyDeletewe are getting Moreno
ReplyDeleteThis clown looked disinterested from the word go.I stand by my comments. We don't need anybody else with this attitude.
ReplyDeleteA steal.......
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the return of Kevin Nolan too :p and if we can find John Welsh and Richie Partridge it could be a great youth team reunion
ReplyDeleteJokes aside for 4m this is decent business compared to the 8-10m quoted by Sky sports recently.
