Like many LFC fans, I felt sick to the stomach when Manchester United signed Robin Van Persie in the summer of 2012. As soon as the Dutchman signed on the dotted line, the title race was over, and United were destined to be Premier League champions. The impact of a world class striker cannot be underestimated, and SAS have proven that once again this season. Thankfully, it's all gone sour for Van Persie, and his fractured season has mirrored the the marvellous decline of Man Utd, to the extent that Anfield legend Robbie Fowler believes the striker will leave Old Trafford this summer.
Discussing Van Persie this week, Fowler - who has described the striker as 'fantastic' and 'exceptional' in the past - argued that the Rooney/RVP partnership is a 'mis-match', and suggested that the Dutchman's time at Man Utd is up. He told Talksport:
"Since RVP has been injured and out of the side, Rooney seems to have upped his game. It wouldn’t surprise me if Van Persie leaves in the summer".
Despite his injuries, Van Persie is still doing the business for Man Utd:
* 17 goals/3 assists in 22 appearances.
* Goal/Assist every 1.1 games.
22 goals/assists in 22 appearances? That's a similar creative rate to Daniel Sturridge, who has 30 goals/assists in 29 apps this season.
Clearly, Van Persie is still at the top of his game, and it will be a hammer blow for Man Utd if leaves this summer, which is why I have my fingers crossed that it happens. If RVP is fit, he will score goals regularly. If he scores regularly, Man United have a better chance of doing well, and no LFC fan wants that :-)
Why would RVP stay at Man United anyway? He's driven by success, and wants to win trophies, which is why he left Arsenal in the first place. Now, United are in decline, and RVP is now in a situation where his chances of winning trophies are severely restricted. Plus, he's the wrong side of 30, so he's running out of time to add more medals to his collection.
I also imagine RVP is miffed that the man who signed him - Alex Ferguson - quit the club just one year into his contract. Fergie's record of success probably attracted RVP in the first place, and now he's faced with a manager whose only trophy in a 16-year career is second division Championship win in 2000.
Oh, and the Charity Shield, which Moyes won in 2013. We shouldn't forget that immensely important trophy.
If RVP leaves, United will it hard to replace him, especially without Champions League football to entice top class players. In fact, losing Van Persie would be another nail in Moyes' coffin, and could send the club into a deeper downward spiral. Additionally, United will inevitably make a significant loss on £24m fee paid out.
With all this in mind, here's hoping Fowler is right, and Van Persie jumps ship this summer.
Cheeky bid from LFC, perhaps ;-)

Weak story: Liverpool ex-player thinks/hopes something bad will happen to bitter rival.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't be surprised if Chelsea put a big offer in for him. Of at least offer the 24 mil utd paid for him. Personally I don't think he'd be a good fit for LFC, he's too much of an individual. Good player no doubt but not my cup of tea
ReplyDeleteAnd to top it off, it seems that whenever the team is not playing well, he succumbs to injuries a bit more easily.
ReplyDeleteChelsea fans were an absolute disgrace yesterday. Chanting during the minutes silence for 96 football fans who died supporting their team, club allegiances go out the window for events like this. This is not the first time and it's not 'the minority which every club has' because every other club in the country managed to get it right. I'm sure there are lots of chelsea fans out there that find this despicable, you need to take a long look at the club you support and the person sat next to you at Stamford Bridge. CFC will no doubt berry their head in the sand over the issue.
ReplyDeleteIf or when he leaves, he will go to Spain. Van Persie could actually fit in very well with Hazard, Ronaldo and Bale at Real. Or as a targetman at Barca. I agree with Fowler that Rooney has been more prolific since Van Persie's injury but that doesn't mean they can't play together. Ferguson managed to get it to work so there is no reason why Moyes shouldn't. Well aside from the fact that Ferguson was respected by his players and Moyres clearly is not.
ReplyDeleteAh well, that's how we know them. And no not a small minority either. The majority of Chelsea supporters are nothing more than skum. If anything, they're less than that.
ReplyDeleteIt's worth a bid just to annoy them but I don't want him. He is not a team player at all and when the going gets tough, Van Persie gets... well injured.
ReplyDeleteIf I am not wrong I remember LFC fans doing the same but for a different incident where all were supposed to be silent for probably 2 minutes and the LFC fans end was cheering for some unknown reason. It was at the Emirates if I am not wrong.
ReplyDeletethink you need to grow up a bit.
ReplyDeleteHow very vague of you...
ReplyDeleteFrom God's mouth to...well..God's ear..
ReplyDeleteIKR!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you think he would go though?
ReplyDeleteIf he did leave I cant see him going to another English club. What about Atletico? Could be a good shout!
To be expected from a club and manager with no class - need to be taught a lesson when they visit Anfield in 2 weeks time
ReplyDeleteNoise was coming from outside the stadium. They were not aware of minutes silence. I heard the commentator saying that.
ReplyDeleteHazard ?
ReplyDeleteYep - Wilmots has said he should move away from Chelsea to play in a more attacking side. Real and PSG are interested. Wilmots has a lot of influence on these guys and rumours in Belgium are Hazard is not happy at Chelsea anyway.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, hordes of people gathered around Stamford Bridge in order to make as much noise as possible, by accident of course. A problem no other ground in England faced in three days. Skum. The lot of them.
ReplyDeleteLiberty Stadium
ReplyDeleteWhatever. It's a bullshed excuse. Of course all of those people accidently making noise all got together behind the stand with the Chelsea supporters. They're skum. Always were, always will be. From their pound burning days to this very day. Skum. From their dictator buddy owner to their captain fantastic to their gloryhunter supporters. Skum.
ReplyDeleteGet him to Liverpool. He will explode.
ReplyDeleteThe skum chelski pricks also did it at Wembley 1 or 2 years ago
ReplyDeleteBayern Munich or PSG will be his destination methinks more probably PSG
ReplyDeleteI could only get a seat in the Chelsea end when we drew 4-4 in the champions league for the 20th anniversary. Like you said, the chants of murderers and you robbed your own dead weren't the act one or two idiots - it was almost everyone. The hatred with which they shouted that filth will stay with me.
ReplyDeleteHave him! He doesn't fit in well with the other decent players at Utd and I think he needs to go for the good of the team. It's no coincidence we've played (somewhat) better without him. I'd be happy if we could get 15mil
ReplyDeleteAs someone else says, he's too much of an individual. Maybe he could go somewhere like Stoke or Palace where he could be the main man. If
What has this got to do with Liverpool? We are not like Man Utd fans - obsessed. Who cares what happens to that shower?
ReplyDeletethat was different it was for sir tom finney, they were cheering his name and it was respectful.
ReplyDeleteWhatever they value him at, bid half and deliver the bid via professional Clown.
ReplyDeleteWhat you want Ferguson to deliver the bid! Well it's worth a try I suppose.......
ReplyDeleteHe will go where Van Gaal goes.
ReplyDeleteNo no spanish sides are interested. He will stay in England.Who knows could
ReplyDeleteend up back at Arsenal if Wenger leaves.
That I agree with. A club that's classless, treated Rafa disgracefully but they respect an egocentric moron as manager. Let's do them in at our ground!
