'Massive Power-Shift': Man Utd flop admits he'd 'love it' if LFC win at Old Trafford.

Despite Manchester United's glorious downward spiral into abject mediocrity, this Sunday's crunch game with Liverpool remains one of the biggest games of the season (for both fans and neutrals alike), and ex-Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage is convinced the Reds will come away from Old Trafford with all three points.

Savage is a huge fan of Liverpool. He's stated many times that he 'idolised' Kenny Dalglish growing up, and he's also believes that Steven Gerrard is the best player he's ever played against.

As such, it comes as no surprise that the BBC pundit has some bias towards Liverpool, and in his column for the The Mirror today, Savage - dumped by Man United in 1994 without having played a single game for the club - enthused:

"I'd love it if Liverpool beat Manchester United. Brendan Rodgers looks like a manager in complete control, while David Moyes is carrying the troubles of the world on his shoulders.

"I believe Liverpool [are] favourites to win, and for Liverpool to be favourites at Old Trafford represents a massive power shift in such a short space of time".

Some other pre-match views on the game:

Brian McCLair

"You have to admit Liverpool are in great form at the moment. They look dangerous going forward so, defensively, we’ll have to be right on it to contain their attacking threat"

Robbie Fowler

"I can’t remember the last time a Liverpool team went to Old Trafford in this position. On paper it’s a game Liverpool should win. They’re in great form and I am quietly confident Liverpool can get a big result there".

Gary Pallister

"Liverpool have been flying and their strikers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are bang in form, but we should be positive because we have the players to get the result we want, and we’re on our home turf as well"

Phil Neville

"Liverpool have had a great season and it'll be a fantastic game but, as always, we'll be looking for maximum points."

David Moyes

"Their league position suggests they are ahead of us and they possibly do come here as favourites. Liverpool are having a very good season and we will have to do everything we possibly can to beat them."

Man United fans will not be too happy about Moyes conceding that LFC are favourites for the game, but I doubt he really means it. His comment smacks of amateur kidology in an attempt to put the pressure on LFC. When it comes to mind games, Alex Ferguson he 'aint (!)

  2. I don't like what seems to me like arrogance when it come to comments on possible outcome because most of the time it backfire, just look at the thrashing we gave to some opponents and some declaration they had before the game

That happened to us too, getting ahead of ourselves and not getting the result we would have expect.

Thankfully the players didn't give any interviews talking about the result, seems like a sign of a mature team to shut up, put the work in training and show it on the pitch, but they really put "pressure" with these comments.

That aside form go out of the window more often than not in these big matchs against Man U, so i wouldn't put that much emphasis on our current form even though i believe in the team.

I think United will have a player red carded tomorrow. They'll be too wound up and under pressure to get the result.

  4. Wound up in your dreams. Watch us go fool! Lol

  5. Moyes vs LFC: 27 matches, 5 wins, 8 draws and 14 losses which is extremely poor so that is one thing we have got going for us :-)

  6. I think Manure will beat us sunday, our away form is'nt the best and our defending is dodgy at best. Hope i'm wrong though 'cos i'd love it, love it, if we beat them, now where have i heard that before? lol.

  8. Utd have the worst home record out of the 7 teams competing for a top 4 finish. Have you seen them play this season and what makes you think they are going to beat us?

  9. Agree totally. Fortunately it's only the fans doing this and I am sure BR and the players know it will be a really tough match.

  10. The match could easily go any way. They are at home and sytill have some top (top?) players but so do we and as we have seen in the past with these clashes the resuts don't always follow form. I can understand therefore why Roythered is cautious but hopeful.

  11. Exactly that's my fear. This is basically the same squad (Minus Mata, Janujaj & fellaini) winning the EPL with 5 games in hand & SAF or no SAF, a team can't go down so fast & so deep. So far, this season, we had been over achieving & MU under; I am sure some part of that 'll be balanced over the course of the full season, hope it just not start on Sunday next.

  12. I would be happy with a point from the game and providing Arsenal can beat Spurs a top 4 finish will be that bit closer.

  13. We have been over achieving?

What utter nonsense. We are 2nd in the league and we are there on merit.

  14. I think we are all remembering results and over looking performances - we struggled against the bottom club & won with a last ditch penalty, had lucky opening 30 mins against Southampton (who let's be honest outplayed us in that period). In between we lost to Arsenal in the cup. When was our last convincing PERFORMANCE away from home? We are playing RVP, Rooney & Mata - how can we be making such assumptions of victory? Let's be proud of our abilities but let's keep our feet on the ground til 3.25 pm tomorrow...YNWA

  15. Last 10 games there we lost nine and won just one, this is incredible how poor we have been there. Ever since I started watching epl and supporting lfc I remember we always used to play like cowards in their stadium, afraid of playing our own game except in 2009 in that 1-4 win. I dont understand why but that must stop it now. Mancs never been weaker than today and we never had a better chance to beat them than today, I mean this season. I would not accept even a draw, if newcastle everton spurs wba swansea can win there, we should demolish them really, no excuse at all.

  16. I cant believe Utd are actually favourites. Not that it hurts us.
Oh, and Tommy Smyth is a bias old coot.

  17. I'm quietly confident but taking nothing for granted. Still having nightmares about the hull game. If we hit them with a couple of early goals I think they'll capitulate

  18. The time off won't hurt us a bit. Rodgers, Gerrard and Suarez will have been driving the intensity in training and the team will be fresh. Our plan this season has been all about the first half and we'll roar onto the pitch, their home ground, like it's an afternoon at Anfield and we're hosting a League One side in a cup tie. I don't think Moyes has the first clue how to contain Liverpool and if he plans for the team to stay compact looking for the counter and it doesn't work he'll be crucified. I think a loss to Liverpool at this stage will be torture for United fans and any mistakes they can pin on Moyes they will. I personally don't mind the man but if his misery is part of United's misery then I'll gleefully watch it get piled on. He's out of his depth and should be shown no mercy at all.

2-0 up in the first half. They'll make a comeback just because they've got too many good players not to, but we will comfortably hold on and probably nick another on the counter when they start to really push forward. 3-1 final score, a suitable embarrassment for a team that Ferguson has left behind.

  19. All I remember is a team that just kept scoring until they won. Time and time again we did what was needed, that's the key here. United won league titles doing just that.

  20. We'll stick a "THIS IS ANFIELD" in the dressing room. We'll feel at home and kill it first half, well I hope :) YNWA

  21. Two clubs now in the shadow of the ONLY club from Manchester.

  22. Nice to see someone keeping a balanced head on here. The first priority has to be securing top four. Talk of the title is a distraction. if Liverpool win tomorrow AND beat Spurs, Chelsea and City, then people can start to think about the Premiership. However, it would take all that, plus City to still trip up for that to happen
