Brendan Rodgers has made three changes for this afternoon's FA Cup tie with Arsenal, with the most surprising absentee being LFC goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
FULL TEAM: Jones, Flanagan, Skrtel, Agger, Cissokho, Gerrard, Allen, Coutinho, Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge
SUBS: Mignolet, Toure, Moses, Henderson, Kelly, Aspas, Teixeira
ARSENAL: Fabianski, Jenkinson, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal, Flamini, Arteta, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozil, Podolski, Sanogo
* After undergoing midweek wrist surgery, Rodgers (sensibly) keeps Jordan Henderson out of the starting line-up.
It may only be the wrist, but it would've been wrong (IMO) to risk further injury.
* Toure is, as expected, dropped to the bench after recent mistakes.
* Mignolet's absence is a surprise. Since when do goalkeepers need to be 'rested'? Seems to me like he's been dropped; or it could just be the case that Rodgers wants to give Brad Jones a run-out.
* Good opportunity for Joe Allen to make an impact, but it's clear that he is a cover player these days.
* Great to see Joao Teixeira on the bench again. Hopefully we'll see more of him during the game.
* Luis Alberto is not in the squad for the second game running. This does not bode well for the Spaniard's future at Anfield.
* As expected, Arsene Wenger has fielded a slightly weakened team. He's already missing Ramsey, Walcott, Cazorla, and he's left out Giroud, Sagna, Wilshere, and Szczesny.
I'm revising my prediction: 3-2 to Liverpool.

If Henderson is well enough for the bench.. why not start him? Jones is a liability haha not liking that choice either.
ReplyDeleteI expected jones and agger to come on, but allen for hendo thats my worry now! Id prefer gerrard to be dropped and rest rather than hendo..
ReplyDeleteStrong line-up, BR is not taking the FA cup lightly.
ReplyDeleteHendo went for an operation. Resting him is the right thing to do.
ReplyDeleteYou see any stability in mignolet?
ReplyDeleteNo Alberto on the bench again. Does anyone know if he is injured?
ReplyDeleteReina conceded 34 goals after 26 EPL matches last season. Mignolet has conceded 32.
ReplyDeleteGood line-up and nice to see Teixeira on the bench again. I'm expecting a tough game. Honestly, win, lose or draw, supporting Liverpool is a coronary waiting to happen. Never mind, I have my match survival kit with me. Swig of laudanum anyone?
ReplyDeleteNo injury, tex took his place now.
ReplyDeletelittle error there jamie ox is in the starting 11
ReplyDeleteArsenal have a strong team too, only Giroud missing, Jones needs to bring his A-game.
ReplyDeleteIf we go through we play Everton at Anfield! Would be a massive match.
ReplyDeleteCome on boys, let's win this one!
I really hope this goes the same way the game against tottenham went, everyone was expecting a tough game, close, like 2-1, then it was 5-0.
ReplyDeleteThe close game is the most likely outcome, but they'll have half their brains thinking about Bayern, might not give it their all. So I'll go with 5-0 longshot. heard it hear first.
Suarez to break is "drought" if you can call it that.
Amazing these fa cunts doesnt want us to win it, obviously, if we beat everton then its city next surely.
ReplyDeleteWhat's is good is that we have no need to buy Moses for £10m of so given we have Suso, Alberto. Teixeria and Ibe. That's all money that can go into a £20m proper first team player.
ReplyDeletewe should already be 2-0 up yet 1-0 down...haha
ReplyDeleteOur defence up to it usual inconsistencies.
ReplyDeleteOh I cannot wait for Sakho to come back!
arsenal just had no right to score a goal....
ReplyDeleteHoping to still see Sakho and Agger as a CB pair.
ReplyDeleteI reckon those to will sort out our issues.
we only really concede shitty goals...
ReplyDeleteHave we even had a shot on goal so far? Final touch is missing
ReplyDeleteThen some want to put the blame on Mignolet :-o
ReplyDeleteCome on boys, get a bloody grip of the game!
ReplyDeleteLooks like we have a defence full of school boys at the moment.
ReplyDeletethese referees are absolutely blind. they've missed two liverpool corners now
ReplyDeleteI'm so bloody annoyed with sturridge....
ReplyDeleteNobody said it would be easy...
ReplyDeletehe's wasted two glorious chances
ReplyDeleteThink we need a change of formation. Arsenal are not allowing us any space and we have had very little control of the game.
ReplyDeleteMy Suggestion would be 3-5-2.
Kelly on for Flanno
----------------Jones---------------
-----Kelly-----Skrtel----Agger-----
Sterling Gerrard Allen Cissokho
--------------Coutinho---------------
--------Suarez------Sturridge------
Invite Arsenal to attack and hit them on the counter. Suarez and Sturridge will score!
IF we keep playing the way we did in the first half, Arsenal will get one more then sit back. We need to go all out. Allen has been too quiet in the first half, we need more from him.
ReplyDeletecooooome on suarez
ReplyDeleteDid Cissokho honestly think he was going to score from there?
ReplyDeleteAnd that does it.
ReplyDeleteCracks in our defence getting well and truly exposed!
ReplyDeletebrad jones could have done better too
ReplyDeleteIt ain't over till the fat lady sings!
ReplyDeletegames like this show just how important hendo is ,our midfield is paper thin when arsenal break
ReplyDeleteCoutinho is nowhere to be found at the moment.
ReplyDeletetino,Allen , Gerrard ...just isn't balanced...we will need a bit of sss magic to win this , but i cant see the gunners losing this ,why not give tex and aspas and kelly some game time
ReplyDeleteGo and eat some prawn sandwiches or something
ReplyDeleteHa ha
ReplyDeleteIs this the start of the comeback???
ReplyDeleteYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete352 it is.
ReplyDeleteThat is what I called for!
ReplyDeleteWTF Howard Webb???
ReplyDeletewebb is an absolute tool
ReplyDeleteSterling is becoming a beast!
ReplyDeleteOne more goal boys. Come on!
ReplyDeletegerrard needs to be f**king careful!!!!
ReplyDeleteGerrard a bit lucky there...
ReplyDeletelate goal coming, i feel it
ReplyDeletecmon BR grow a couple Coutinho off Alberto on
ReplyDeleteoohhhhhh for crying out loud! put them away!
ReplyDeleteAlberto is not on the bench????
ReplyDeleteSuarez is itching to score.
ReplyDeleteHe is making too many errors though.
ReplyDeleteprofessional players need to learn how to cross a f**king ball. It can't be that hard...
ReplyDeleteF___ you Webb
ReplyDeletewebb, you really are a tool! when is it ever f**king okay to be punched in the head while not even getting a penalty!?
ReplyDeleteThat is it everyone, the change that would have rescued it for us. Another trophyless season, maybe?
ReplyDeleterelax, we could be arsenal
ReplyDeletewebb is a not allowed here her is a dork
ReplyDeletearsenal fans only have one bloody chant, and it's not even original!
ReplyDeleteabsolute nnsense
ReplyDeleteSo a few clear penalties declined and a few corners given as goal kicks? So what your saying is Koscielny had a good game?
ReplyDeletewebb, you're a filthy manc twat
ReplyDeletehoward webb 1 liverpool 0
ReplyDeleteamen
ReplyDeleteUnlucky lads at least deserved a reply...
ReplyDeleteHow on earth did we lose that match!? all the possession, all the chances, all the shots...f*** me dead!
ReplyDeleteWe had enough chances to at least earn a drawn, nevermind us being 'Webbed' again.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, we cant always be blaming the refs, we had our chances, many, and wasted them. Still looking forward to destroying city and chelsea at the kop.
ReplyDeleteHehe. Arsenal know who the better side are now don't they. They were so relieved at the final whistle, like they'd just pulled off a giant killing. Good performance from LFC. Looking forward to the next 3 games!
ReplyDeleteJenkinson - Konscielny - Webb - Mertesacker - Monreal
ReplyDeleteNow thats a title winning Defence
Real shame about the result..
ReplyDeleteOn chances created we should have won the game easily and were defo the better team.. A couple of pens not given by Webb again.
And another chance offered to Allen and wasted..
I'll take Webb as the 'full' back
ReplyDeleteSo now it is a case of having less games to worry about...
ReplyDeleteWe at least did not lose without trying. Webb needs glasses.
Bring on Swansea!
I love how Martin Tyler tried to discount Arsenal's win after the final whistle.
ReplyDelete"this win might come back to bite them".
Was really looking forward to playing the Blues in the next round.. not to be alas..
ReplyDeletetop 4 or bust now...tiredness cant be an excuse as the teams above are all playing more games
ReplyDeleteIs there some stat that we've haven't won any of the last 7 games reff'ed by Webb.. Sorry, but someone from the FA needs to call him out..
ReplyDeleteAnd to think he's our rep for the World Cup..
We were screwed over in this match. Yes we did not take our chances but we should have at least had two more penalties.
ReplyDeleteArsenal were not the better team.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Games are won by fine margins.. If Sturridge had put away any of his two chances in the opening minutes, this game would have been a cake walk.
ReplyDeleteArsenal were nervous. Got a bit of luck with the ricochet for the opening goal, which then settled them down.
Arsenal fans creaming themselves , all the neutrals know they got lucky & can honestly say I'd have took last weeks win over today any day of the week, another tough match added to their fixture list & I will bet with anyone arsenal won't win the cup. No injuries is good, let's stuff Swansea & roll on!
ReplyDeleteTo think Arsenal fans scorned us as rivals when they bid for Suarez, we look a far classier team , fancy us to overhaul them for 3rd at least
ReplyDeleteI think my biggest issue with Howard Webb today is the lack of consistency.
ReplyDeleteHe gave the penalty, fine.
But considering he gave that penalty, how could he not give the other two.
Referees are not perfect by any means, and that's certainly understandable.
All I ask for is consistency with calls.
Plenty of chances. More than enough to win a few games, if we had taken them bad decisions would not have mattered
ReplyDeleteWe played really well overall, we could easily have trounced them again
I'm not sure if I would be as magnanimous if that was a league match, but hopefully we get a bit of luck in front of goal next time out. 3 winnable league games upcoming
never said they where, a part of me is glad we are out as i think we have a real crack at winning the prem and we might not get another chance in years
ReplyDeleteWe should have taken the chances and probably have won 2 ,but i'm not too disappointed we can now concentrate on the league and focus in finishing as high as possible.
