Game On: LFC make offer for unhappy €18m striker Carra called 'hottest in Europe'

During the summer 2013 transfer window, Liverpool were linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who was allegedly sought by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers as a makeweight in any deal to take Luis Suarez to the Bernebeau. Liverpool are seemingly on the lookout for another striker, and reports today suggest that the Reds have reginited their interest in the player.

In August, The Mirror claimed that Liverpool 'have identified Alvaro Morata' as a transfer target, according to ITV Sport today:

"Liverpool have made Real Madrid a concrete offer for young forward Alvaro Morata"

21-year old Morata is having a tough time at Madrid right now. He can't hold down a regular starting place, and Spanish newspaper Marca today claims that he is unhappy at being increasingly marginalised at Madrid.

In a recent column for the Daily Mail, Carra named his top five potential transfers targets for the January transfer window, and named €18m-rated Morata as a player he'd love to see in the Premier League. He enthused:

"Morata is one of the hottest young strikers in Europe. We have seen the impact Gerard Deulofeu, another young Spaniard, has made at Everton and it would be intriguing to see Morata [in the Premier League].

Morata has two goals and one assist in 16 appearances for Madrid this season (only three starts), which isn't a great record, but he's also racked up eleven goals in twelves games for Spain's U21 side, which is probably what impresses Carra.

U21 team-mate Thiago Alcantara certainly seems to think that Morata is heading for greatness, and over the summer, he told reporters:

“Morata is an exceptional player and he’s really given us a lot in this tournament. He helped us win the games that won us our group and get to the final too – he’s a great No9"

Luis Suarez recently signed a new deal at Anfield, but it reportedly contains a £70m release clause that allows him to speak with Real and Barcelona if either club makes transfer contact. If that happens, and Suarez decides to leave for Madrid, perhaps Rodgers will once again insist that Morata is included in the transaction? If not him, are there any other Real Madrid players who'd be good makeweights in any potential deal?

  1. We could do with another striker. But would he not get a similar situation at Liverpool? Suarez and Sturridge ahead of him. If Suarez stays that is. I guess with Sturrridge's fitness then he might some more games?

If Liverpool manages to secure CL football next year, they need depth at every position.

  8. I agree, but what I mean is, is he is apparently unhappy playing a bit part role at Madrid, and would he not just have the same role at Liverpool. Because he isn't going to usurp Suarez and Sturridge for starting places.

  9. Well if we lose games vs top six like we did at arsenal city and chelsea, we wont reach it, our form vs them must change, thats where you win the CL place.

  10. Yeah, CL is finally within our reach again :-)

  11. If we beat small cubs, our confidence will boost further and with almost all of those games at home, we will get enough points for top 4, maybe even for more..

  12. Rakitic and Salah seem to be the two closest to us, which is promising, but I can not believe we are not in for Matic...

  13. I think he is capable of making Sturridge swaet for his place and he knows it.. Though I doubt he will be coming...

  14. OK I like this kid. He's a lot like Sturridge and would fit well with Suarez when Sturridge gets hurt...again...hopefully not. Does anybody else think that Stoke City might be just a little too soon to come back from surgery? I love his desire, but he has to think long term too.

  15. I dont see the actual connection with us?

  16. ITV sport said an offer had been made but I think I read elsewhere there was talk of a loan deal. With our record of loans perhaps we should be grateful that it almost certainly won't happen.

  21. Dont think it will happen but it would signing of year-attackers.

  22. I still don't think we'll do it...

  23. was always going to happen. Alonso was holding out for a better deal that's all.

  24. Doubt if he'll start the game and probably only used if we are desperate for the last 30 mins don't you think.

  25. It's not those games that are the problem it's the points we dropped to Newcastle, Southampton, Hull, Everton, Swansea etc. That's what hurting us. Losing to Arsenal, Chelsea, Man C away is not really the problem we could turn those results around at home.

  26. Then why sell Pepe. Imagine if something happened to Mignolet ( long term injury). We'd really be up the creek without a paddle.

  27. WE need left and right back that defend and attack 100%.
sell Glen Johnson to new York he 31 and not up to it anymore served us well.
Need world class midfielder to replace Steven Gerrard Not getting younger.
    need Striker for Rotation .
All should be world class .
Why don't we give player plus cash Luke shaw

  30. would love mascha back alonso just signed contract so that dream is over :(

    ReplyDelete
  31. Maybe he would take the bit between his teeth and fight for starting place the same as all other players in the squad. Sometimes I think these GKs want a different set of rules for them as opposed to other players. If he's under contract he will have to do as he's told end of story.

  32. I would love this kid and if he's half as good as Negredo, we would have ourselves a real find.
