The injuries just keep on coming! After Lucas' new niggle over the weekend, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Glen Johnson will be out for an extended period of time.
In his pre-Bournemouth press conference today, Rodgers revealed:
"Glen Johnson has struggled with a number of injuries. It's indefinite how long he'll be out.
"He's had a real bad ankle, and one or two more other issues that haven't allowed him to be 100%.
"He's been restricted for part of this season, but he's put himself out for the team. It's at that point where we need to get it right. There's no timeframe on it at the moment".
On Lucas:
"I'm disappointed for Lucas. He's very important for our squad. Hopefully he'll be back sooner rather than later".
Rodgers seems to have a counter-productive habit of utilising injured players. Last season, despite their injuries, he repeatedly used both Joe Allen and Steven Gerrard, both of whom had to miss the end of the season due to this mis-use. This season, the manager played Daniel Agger whilst injured, and now he's confirmed that Johnson has been carrying injuries all season.
Over the last couple of months, Johnson's form as deteriorated significantly, and the injuries he's carried have almost certainly exacerbated this. The club's first-team squad is being decimated by injury at the moment - especially defensively - which makes the decision to send Tiago Ilori on loan look even more suspect.
Is Ilori so unprepared for the rigours of the Premier League that he's incapable of providing defensive cover? he's 20 years old, not 16! What is the point of spending £7m on him if he can't be used to enhance the strength of the squad. Aaaagh. It makes no sense!

Add that salahs on brink of joining chelsea, does anything go well in lfc these days?
ReplyDeleteIt is getting better another blessing in disguise, get Kelly in for Johnson, Allen in for Lucas and we are a much better side - can even injuries force Brendon into doing what should have been done without them - er no he wont replace Lucas with Allen, he will play Gerrard out of position forcing Allen to play out of position surely Kelly must be right back but I wont hold my breath. fate has picked his best team if he will let it.
ReplyDeleteI forgot add add Jones in goal and we are stronger in all three positions what more can we ask - brilliant. ps has anyone just once heard Mingolet say I was to blame or I'm sorry for the schoolboy errors.
ReplyDeleteIt is absolute suicidal if Rodgers is playing injured players. both for Club, player and himself. This is very bad management.
ReplyDeleteOn another note. Rodgers and FSG have been pussy footing the Salah deal, and now we have been hijacked. Yet again. This deal should have been closed on the first week of January.
AYRE.. Stands for" Are You Really Stupid"?
ReplyDeleteJust as a matter of interest, why would you call yourself AntiFsg?
ReplyDeletecant believe this is happening at this point in the season, from injuries and the inability to land our transfer targets, very miffed off
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea what goes into trying to sign players so how can you say they're pussyfooting around? Just paying the asking price is how we ended up with Carroll for for £35 million
ReplyDeleteAnd you obviously know. Please enlighten us with your know how.
ReplyDeleteA DEPRESS CONFERRENCE
ReplyDeleteWe're still in the top 4.
ReplyDeleteWonder what is going on with out fitness this season? Lots of injuries. Things seemed to be much better last season.
ReplyDeleteI said a while back that I thought Johnson was carrying an injury, because you could tell he was unable to run. I'd started to think that maybe it wasn't an injury and he was playing badly, because it went on for so long. Months. If he has been carrying an injury all that time, would it have been that hard to give Kelly a few minutes here and there? In games we'd already won etc. Now he's going to have to have his first league start of the season (first start for about a year) against Everton.
Lately I feel like I need more explanation for why things work at a certain way in our club.
ReplyDeleteThe top 3 things in need of clarifications are:
3. Why is Ian Ayre still have a say regarding transfers?
2. Why do we send out on loan strong squad members(Suso) when our squad is clearly paper-thin?
1. Why do we sign players and then send them out on loan (Llori and Assaidi)?
Its truly infuriating the way rodgers uses his players, i really dont understand his thinking. If johnson is injured, why send wisdom out on loan? Kelly i can understand cos hes not fully fit but i would rather start him and sub johnson in when he tires now that hes back. Same thing with agger, just rest him for goodness sakes. Just play toure or ilori in the fullback position why let him go? the players he picks are just strange but i guess he just doesnt trust the other players so he would rather use injured players.
ReplyDeleteHmm i think he tried to sub kelly for johnson once, but obviously not enough cos rodgers doesnt even use all his subs in games we have won! I really dont understand why he doesnt play alberto.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your doubts. I think the problem is that rodgers probably feels that it would be better for them to be playing every week instead of waiting for players to get injured. Its not good for their confidence and he doesnt feel they r good enough yet. What is more impt is what he does with them next season. If they still go on loan, thats bad news for the player and us fans cos they r probably out the door following season. Also, im not sure if dalglish is now involved in the negotiations cos that would be a big boost for us. Relax guys its not easy to do biz in jan unless youre willling to fork out 40 mil for a player! Just wait..
ReplyDeleteI remember he came on the other week (for Flanno, I think?) but he is really going to be thrown in at the deep-end now.
ReplyDeletewell now we know why glen has been struggling wasnt early in the season vs man u or something were he first got a knock. i member it was a great 5050 tackle.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the season, if we don't make it to the top 4, questions will surely be asked of BR.
ReplyDeleteExplains his terrible form of late?
ReplyDeletePlaying players through injury is of no benefit to anybody - Johnson's reputation took a massive hit with his severely underwhelming form this season, while his presence on the pitch has not been helping the team either.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been far better for all parties if he'd just been rested up until he was close to 100%, instead of struggling on and just making things worse.
