In 2012, Liverpool were regularly linked with a move for French striker Loic Remy, who ultimately ended up signing for QPR in a bargain £8m deal. The French goalscorer is currently on-loan at Newcastle, who are yet tie him down to a permanent deal. Right now, Remy is still owned by QPR, and boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that the London club is willing to sell for the right price. Should Liverpool take a punt?
Speaking to reporters today, Redknapp expressed surprise at Newcastle's reticence in handing Remy a permanent deal, and argued that some other club is 'bound to snap him up' sooner rather than later. He added:
"Whatever we paid for him - I think it was around £8m - he must be worth double that. If someone came back and offered £15m or £16m for him I think I'd sell him".
Prior to his move to QPR, Remy's agent, Frederic Guerra, revealed that the striker favoured a move to Anfield:
"He [Remy] has his heart is set on playing for Liverpool. Remy is pure gold. He has great pace and that is something Liverpool need in attack".
Remy also wants to stay in the Premier League for the foreseeable future, as he revealed in an interview with FIFA.com last year:
"It [the Prem] feels like the perfect league for me in every way. There’s more pressure and there’s more contact, though there is more space too. It’s great for a player like me. They play deep here and I like that"
Remy's premier league record so far:
* 16 goals/2 assists in 30 starts.
* Goal/assist every 1.6 games.
* This season: 10 goals/2 assists in 17 starts.
* Goal/Assist every 1.4 games.
For £8m, Remy would've been a great buy for Liverpool in 2012. With Suarez's suspensions, and Sturridge's regular injuries, he would've played quite regularly, and provided great competition for the club's two main strikers. On the other hand, perhaps there's a possibility that LFC may not have signed Sturridge with Remy already at the club?
Thinking about it, though, Liverpool signed Sturridge despite having Fabio Borini on the books, so it may not have made any difference. One thing's for sure, Remy - who cost £3m less than than Borini - is superior value for for money, and probably would've performed better for LFC than the Italian.
With Suarez possibly leaving in the summer (depending on CL qualification), and Sturridge still injury prone, should LFC keep track of Remy in the event that Newcastle don't make his deal permanent?

Definitely keep an eye on him. Have liked him since his days back at Nice, has an eye for a goal and great composure. Only issue would be his appetite for the game. He looked a dead certainty to join NUFC in last years winter window, only for a relegation-threatened QPR to offer him more money and him join them instead. Do we want that type of player at LFC? If he wants to wear the red shirt because of our prestige as opposed to the hefty wages he would get, I'd have no qualms signing him for a decent fee!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know what is happening about his rape charge?
ReplyDeleteI thought he has a heart problem? If so he is not worth the money.
ReplyDeleteI would love Remy to join us (if not found guilty of rape). Remy, Sturridge and Suarez would strike fear!
ReplyDeleteWould've been a lot better than Aspas and Borini. If you look at him currently then he's even better than Benteke, Michu, Bony and many others that are being the first choice so if you ask me for our third choice then I say, "YES!!!".
ReplyDeleteyes he is a player who is capable of getting goals wherever he goes and he must be a player that BR has his eyes on. I would like to see another quality cf at the club as it would stop any complacency that creeps in when players aren't challenged for their positions.
ReplyDeleteHes a decent player but not a top class. But for 8m would have him any day, we payed that for aspas didnt we? I dont think this might be possible though, newcastle would want more, the other thing is would he agreed to stay on bench and wait for sturridge or suarez absence?
ReplyDeleteharsh
ReplyDeleteNot a bad backup to have although Suarez and Sturridge would still be the first choice pairing imo
ReplyDeleteThe elephant in the room is why is he not playing for QPR. Let spmeone else take a punt on him it all smells too fishy to me.
ReplyDeleteI think we should sign loic remy he wants the move to liverpool we need to be challenge for the title we need extra strike force in the team#ynwa
ReplyDeleteI was going to make the same point. JK didn't want a player who was guilty of a handball against Ghana, so would he be ok with Remy????
ReplyDeleteI think offering good wages to good players is not an issue. also good strikers will always be able to play good together which is why I say Aspas is useless due to his inability to play well with either Sturridge or Suarez. when we reach the CL this year we will have to chop down a lot of our squad including Aspas, Borini, Allen, Cissokho, Moses, Johnson. Johnson may be able to stay due to experience but the rest will all have to go. I'd replace Aspas with Remy. I'd swap Allen with Adam Lallana plus 10M. still hoping we sign Mohamed Salah and he will replace Moses. Danilo from Porto is the perfect GJ replacement. combination of skill, pace, good defending, strength and great height 6ft2. he will cost up to £15M. we also need a LB but im hoping for swift recovery's to Flanno and Enrique and hopefully they should compete for that place, Flanno adding that versatility to the position. we need competition for Lucas and a compatriot in the same position will make it really tense. Fernando Reges from Porto can be our Viera. I also want the club to add that £25M+ marquee signing the fans were promised in the summer. Marcos Reus has a £30M release clause which can be activated in the Summer and Man United are hot on his tails. well United wont make CL next year unless they win it this year, and we should try to sign Reus to play alongside Suarez. come the CL group stages we will be the most feared side.
ReplyDelete2014-15 season:
Goalkeepers: Simon Mingolet, Brad Jones
Defenders: Daniel Agger, Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, Tiago Ilori
Wing Backs: Glen Johnson, Danilo, Jose Enrique, John Flannagan
Defensive Midfielders: Lucas, Fernando
Central Midfielders: Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Coutinho, Suso
Wingers: Reus, Salah, Sterling
Strikers: Suarez, Sturridge, Remy
now that looks a CL squad which can go the distance. even with injuries
Another striker would be nice, not sure if he'd want to sit on the bench - but there's a good reason to have an extra guy. Ideally sturridge comes back and would be fit to play 90 minutes every game, however, it wouldn't be a bad idea to at first use him as an impact sub until he's 100% fit, he could rotate starting with another striker, eaching doing turns of 60 and 30 minutes type thing to conserve his fitness, and have intensity in attack for the whoe 90 minutes, plus there would always be back up in case Suarez got injured.
ReplyDeleteIMO, no chance of getting Reus - one of the best players in the BuLi, playing for the CL runners-up last year and maybe too much superior competition for his signature come the summer. Besides, why would he want to leave? Dortmund are doing great things. I haven't seen Fernando Reges all too much, but he's turning 26 and he's uncapped by Brazil. Doesn't that mean that Lucas may be better than him as a DM?
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised everyone has him below Sturridge in the pecking order. I'm not so sure.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't want Suarez? Handball or neigh it was always clear he was a great player. A bit of a d!@K clearly but you know.
ReplyDeleteI think there will be a lot of teams keeping an eye on that case and we will know for sure after.
Don't worry about transfers folks...Grobelaar's 'big name' will be announced any day now and the season will be saved.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool just keep buying second rate player's..this guy is the worst loan in the history of football.
ReplyDeleteCan't we just buy 1 great player instead of 4 mediocre
Well...if reports are correct, then I think we can write off Rakitic. If Sevilla is in fact looking for somebody else, they have put a 33M Euro price on him and the Glazer Brothers have given Moyes a 200M pound pot of gold, then Rakitic is headed for Old Trafford.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt Remy would have performed better than Borini especially when Remy has many more years of International and first team experience.than Borini.
ReplyDeleteNo it is not a good move forward at all that would be a backward move I reckon. Could not make it at Chelsea so I don't think he would be any improvement to the squad. We need class and his not it.
ReplyDeleteI think he's an ideal attacking addition who would add much needed depth to the squad. If we did get him it would mean either aspas or Borini would surely leave...?
ReplyDeleteGood post.
ReplyDeleteI think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say about the German system. I'm aware they are not massively involved behind the scenes and that is why I'm saying that if they need to change manager, continuity can be preserved, like you were saying at Lyon.
You were wrong to value our time.
ReplyDeleteThis is the internet. We're the scum of the Earth, baby!
How about Fabiola coentrao? Real don't want him but his still a good player.
ReplyDeleteWe need to buy and LB and RB. More importantly, an LB. And send Cissokho back. He's too much a liability. I'm fine with Flanno playing as RB giving competition to Glen, who has been really poor in recent times. But we need FBs who can bound foward and provide support for our wingers.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be my choice to sack him but I believe the owners will do just that if LFC doesn't finish top 4. IMO opinion Rogers is very young in managerial terms and may take a few years to hit his stride. Undoubtedly he will be a great manager one day and I hope it's with LFC.
ReplyDeleteHow is Salah a Suarez signing? Suarez scored 50 in 50 at ome point st Ajax and shone at a World Cup. Salah's shown promise, but to say the signings are similar seems pretty misguided to me..
