Transfer Update: LFC chase exciting £17m 'prodigy' who plays like Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool are reportedly tracking Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Spurs in the recent past.

According to Sky Sports recently:

"Liverpool and Tottenham are weighing up moves for skilful wideman Alvaro Vadillo.

[He is] one of the most exciting talents in Spain and has drawn comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo due to his style of play".

When asked about the player's future in November, Vadillo's agent hinted at a possible move to Arsenal. He told reporters:

"Arsenal have not contacted me yet, but of course Alvaro would like to play for Arsenal. He is going to cost a lot of money in the future"

Betis don't want to lose Vadillo, but in August, the club's president, Miguel Guillen conceded that a significant transfer bid could tempt them to sell:

"For us to allow our young prodigy to depart, there would have to be a very strong financial benefit for the club. Vadillo has a great future in front of him, and we are very excited [about him]"

Some info about Vadillo:

* Came through the youth ranks at Betis.
* Youngest ever player to start a Primera Liga game for for the club.
* Suffered a cruciate ligament injury in October 2011.
* £17m buyout clause in his contract.
* 1 goals/4 assists in 40 apps for Betis.
* Speaks fluent English.

Betis are currently rock bottom in La Liga, five points behind 19th-placed Rayo Vallecano, and facing almost certain relegation. As such, this gives interested clubs massive bargaining strength, and puts Betis in a position where they may have no choice but to sell players.

Vadillo's goals/assist record so far is not very impressive at all, though, and after wasting money on young players Alberto and Ilori over the summer (and by 'wasting', I mean spending €14m+ and failing to use either player), it would be another financial gamble to spend money on a totally untested young attacker.

  4. ...still should be prioritising midfield. I hope this stays a rumour. Badly need a DM now that Lucas is out. Probably need 2. Forgot this guy. We should go buy 3 midfielders - 2 DMs and 1 AM.

Yesterday just shows how important Lucas is to the team. Just that rock to sit and keep us ticking over. I hope Gerrard doesnt get a sniff against Bournemouth because its not like we should be needing him and based on yesterday - I dont think he deserves to play.

And whilst I'm still fuming - get Johnson out of the team too. If he cant be bothered to play - he shouldnt play. Grow a pair rodgers!

  5. Already joined Napoli

  6. If the club are going to develop young wingers then they should stick with players like Ibe Sterling Wilson etc but if they want a player for now then they should go with experienced players.

  7. Barry and McCarthy are going to run rings around our midfield when we play them.Sad but true.

  8. 17m is the release clause. These clauses mean very little when selling to a non Spanish team. They are there simply to stop them loing them to the top 2 in Spain. Any fee would be no where near this figure

  9. I cant believe we will fcuk up this window!!! With only two-three players we would cement top 4, and could challenge for the title.

  10. Our priority in the next 2 weeks should be Fernando he's an absolute beast and exactly what we need. Pace, power, strength.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anyone else feeling full back has become a priority position to fill?

  12. I do like Jorginho but he wasnt what we needed as he's a Coutinho clone and like redraider said he's now joined Napoli

  13. Allen will be better than lucas, Rodgers has succeeded in taking the confidence out of Courtinho pressurising him to score more goals he is now in two minds and messing up passes, Brendon did a similar thing with Sterling. Cissoko is big hearted has pace dosnt hide, is always ready for a pass, his failings can be sorted but can Mingolets.

  14. One thing I know is that salah cabaye and mata are a must for this club, at least two of them if not three, all are available, im sure mata would take any club now to just play, never mind liverpool. Salah wants to join as well, pardew said he knows cabaye will leave and cant stop him so fsg wt f are you waiting for just ten days left, do something or leave!

  16. I have never in over 50 years watching the reds seen a goalkeeper make so many costly mistakes so consistently, we don't need Reina back we need Jones to be promoted and Mingolet to work very hard to get back in.why was 20 plus million wasted on non first team players last summer - no more one proven top class player is needed.

  18. It's becoming a big issue, but he's young and should improve. Confidence seems to be a bit low right now...

    ReplyDelete
  19. We don't need this player. Right-footed wingers are not the issue!!! Please go get a DM (talk to Porto or FSG players) find a way to terminate the loan deals and get a good LB (loan or purchase)!

Our performance yesterday may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. John W Henry was there, and hopefully it was painfully obvious to him that we need to strengthen in midfield to stop 4th place slipping away [I won't even mention the title .... :( ].

    Oh oh oh oh oh
We got the worst defence in the world
    We got Aly Cissokho
    Skrtel and Sakho
    Johnson and Toure, oh no-o-oooooooooooooooooooo

  22. Agree with the Johnson comment. His form over the last ten games has been awful. If he doesn't want to put the effort in anymore ship him out. I went to watch Barca play a few months ago and Montoya played at left back and he's quality. Good defender who likes to get forward. If he's available for free in the summer it would be a steal. Thinking a bit more long term, a friend of mine is a big Barnsley fan and went to watch them yesterday, he said McLaughlin looked quality and had Ince in his pocket. I know there's a big difference between the Championship and the PL but I really like the look of this kid.

  23. Felt a bit sorry for Cissokho yesterday, whenever he got the ball there was nobody in front of him to pass to, thought he was a little bit isolated on the left. That being said I'll be glad when Enrique is back. Does anybody know when he's likely to be fit?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Agreed, M'villa if he's available for me.

  25. AndWithSuchSimplicity8:01 pm, January 19, 2014

He was isolated, and I'm perhaps being a little harsh, but sometimes you wish our back four would just keep it simple.
I hope him and Flanno are back sooner rather than later. I'd much rather have a defender who just concentrates on their job.

Liverpool are thought to be interested in Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow after growing concerns over the performances of current number one Simon Mignolet.

Just found this on the 'net. To be honest, Mignolet made a penalty save v Stoke, and late one against Benteke v Villa away, and some good ones against Everton. Other than that, has he been an improvement on anything we had before? I'm not convinced.

  27. If we learn from that game it will be best lost points in history of our club. What we should have learned is that Stevie belongs behind strikers, that Lucas is a player we will need when we get to cl even though a better player needs to be brought for dm position. And that all players MUST reach level of fitness that Hendo, Skrtel and Sissokho already have- 65th minute on we were breathless. I know two subs and everything, but still- we have one match a week we should concetrate on and give our max.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 3 games he fcuked up, but the problem is we only got a point in those games. All other games he was solid or excellent- for his first year it is great. Compare it with Scesny or DeGea first games

  29. LFC need a ball winner in midfield with the ability to spread the ball intelligently after winning it. All the talk about this attacking player and that attacking player is giving me the Sh..ts. Without Saurez thay wouldn't be anywhere near the CL right now. Midfield is where LFC are weak.

  30. we leak goals with Sg in a midfied 3....villa should have beaten us by 3 yesterday

  31. Yes Kelly or Mcloughlan for Johnson. Cissoko is a gem in the making.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I could have saved 4 of the goals he has let in and i'm a pensioner - and i'm not joking. can't nobody see he cost us yet another 2 points undeserved maybe but he did.

  33. We need at least one mad player - make a difference.

    ReplyDelete
  34. We have one aged 21 but he has somehow upset Rodgers who is suppressing the lads talent, I can only think for spite or to teach him a lesson, whatever it is a disgrace actually picking a 16 year old and a 17 year old with tiny fraction of his ability ahead of him. if you have seen the lad play you will know who I mean.

  35. Great post, really..

  36. What fitness does Cissokho have? He's like a turkey running through stubble

  37. For export hopefully.

  38. I get the feeling that if this had been a penalty given for the opposition, some of the views expressed on here would be very different. Rather than complaining about the decision, I reckon that Mignolet would be getting slated for rash goalkeeping, as opposed to the attacker for diving.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Its typical for any striker in this world when they got a contact in this situation to go down..either it minimal or enough contact..50-50 chances to get a penalti and it happen in split second..ref need to give a decision and they got it..its defferent is suarez didnt get any contact at all and dive oviously..

    ReplyDelete
  40. Very true - a bit of "critical realism" dealt at Mignolet would be the case!

    ReplyDelete
  41. As much as i might get some flack for saying this, i think its a case of Suarez winning a penalty rather than an out and out dive.
But the name Suarez always manages to catch peoples attention.
I do believe there was contact as a poster has shown in a still from a different angle but i think its made by Suarez trailing his leg to initiate the contact.
Silly Guzan in this case IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  42. First of all welcome,
This is the issue in modern football, Is contact enough?.
I believe in this situation Suarez has baited the keeper and won the penalty, very minor contact (which i believe was made by Suarez trailing leg to win the free) but who are we to decide whether its enough.
Its a very hard scenario, its the same as the Sterling incident in the article, I think we have drawn the free kick and won it.
Being a defender or goalie these days can be a lonely position in situations like these lol

    ReplyDelete
  43. All those angles make a good point. There is no evidence of contact, so if it happened then it was very very slight. The keeper claims he made none and has reported to the papers that even Luis on the day said he didn't know if he touched him. On most evidence its clear that Luis has been the one to cause himself to go to ground. However Suarez "lurches to the left" because that is where he played the ball with his last touch. He's not pretending that someone has pushed him, if he didn't move to the left he'd just end up standing on the keeper.

But for me it begs the question: is it OK for the keeper to slide in, with every intention of making a tackle and then just pull his hands out of the way as if he's not impeding the player? Clearly the keeper is impeding Suarez, only only by Suarez avoiding him is there no contact. If Luis keeps his course he'd either step on the keeper or have to leap over him. So is it OK for players to make sliding tackles and not be punished if the player they are trying to tackle has the skills to avoid him? If you stick out your leg and try to trip me but I skip over your leg, is your attempt not a foul? The actions of the keeper forced Suarez off his line and he never had a chance of getting the ball. Is that worth punishing?

    ReplyDelete
  44. This is my view. Guzan had no chance of getting the ball. He's initiated a sliding tackle but it was the wrong choice. Suarez is left with no choice but to wait for the contact. Guzan has made it impossible for there to be any other outcome.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Very good point. Players "Win" free kicks all the time, trailing their leg or stopping so contact is inevitable, but its not a dive unless the right players do it in the right areas.
Suarez has won this penalty IMO by trailing his leg for contact not by diving.

    ReplyDelete
  46. nailed it. a players whole job is to force mistakes in there opponents. a mistake from a keeper is either a goal, a rebound, or a pk. Saurez played it perfect. he made the keeper screw up and make a bad decision.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't understand what is meant by "lurch to the left"

Suarez could have made an effort to stay on his feet but why would he?

This is a text book penalty. Keeper charges out doesn't make the ball and attacker goes down.

Guzan knows this is a penalty every day of the week. And the referee sensibly didn't even book him, there was no intent.

Actually, the more I look at it, Suarez definitely "chooses" not to take a normal stride with left foot.............. But this is after some contact with right leg

A footballer cannot allow a goalkeeper away with a lunge like that though, if the keeper stays on his feet, Suarez rounds hims and scores. If the keeper lunges to prevent this easy goal, and therefore pushes attacker wider he is gaining an advantage. Surely the striker can "choose" to run into the obvious obstruction????? There is no onus on striker to avoid all contact, a natural collision

I played up front for years and a 1 v 1 like this is usually a goal or a penalty. If a keeper wants to fly out like that he better win the ball cleanly or a penalty is inevitable

The most ridiculous cheating attempt this year was Oscar's trailing leg KICK of the goalkeeper when he had an open goal.

    He decided that a penalty v 10 men was a better outcome than 1-0 v 11 men.

    ReplyDelete
  48. During the game a commentator said he thought Suarez dived implying he cheated/conned the ref, the same commentator then went on to condone villa for time wasting later in the game, even saying he didn't blame them for time wasting, oh the double standards of it all..

    ReplyDelete
  49. Nice spot, took me awhile to see it, but it is definitely there, keepers right hand catches Suarez's foot, it's enough to knock him off balance

    ReplyDelete
  50. Admit it, the word kop only really resonates with Liverpool these days.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's all well and good bringing in skill full technically gifted players but we need balance in my opinion and our team is drying out for a bit of strength and muscle that the team severely lacks. Our defence is a bit weak for a top four team and with Gerrard not gettin any younger plus Lucas in and out of injury and also he's good but not outstanding I'm thinking solid strong holding mid needed plus strengthen the defence. It's not as if we're not scoring goals lets be honest

I am so pissed that we bought Tiago and he hasnt seen the pitch this b...sh.. BR played Sterling at what 17 and reckons we need to loan out one of portugals best up and coming youngsters this is a joke talk about favourites.
Johnson for me has been a part player for a while now. I know we need at least 2 more players AM/DM but our defence needs to be sorted and if Johnson keeps on then start Tiago dont loan him out this is a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Can't really add Riera as he had a very good season for us where he was a pivotal member of our team which came 2nd in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm guessing you are talking about Luis Alberto, however, he doesn't fit the "ball-winning midfielder" description, he is an excellent passer and at the moment, it somewhat lightweight, I doubt he has upset Rodgers, he just needs to adapt to the English style of play, next season he will be better,

    ReplyDelete
  56. First off, you compare Tiago Ilori with Sterling, they play in completely different positions, Ilori is a defender and when you say he should start instead of Johnson, this shows your lack of footballing knowledge, Johnson is a right fullback, whereas Ilori is a centre back, and who would you take out to play him? Skrtel has been a monster this season, whenever Sakho has played, he has looked good, Toure has been excellent, Agger hasn't been great, but he is the club's vice-captain. Frankly, Toure was bought as a stopgap and therefore Ilori was expected to get some game time, but Toure has exceeded expectations, therefore has gotten more game time than he was expected to. Sending Ilori on loan makes sense.
