Photo Proof: BR promotes exciting young LFC attacker to first team. Cardiff debut...?

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed this week the promotion of Reds youngsters Jordan Rossiter and Brad Smith into the first team squad, and whilst that's great news, it appears that another exciting youngster is also now training with the first team squad.

Speaking to The Times this week, Rodgers explained:

"We have had Jordan Rossiter (16) training with us.

"He is an outstanding young talent, [and] Brad smith, a left back who I think is another outstanding young player.

"The one thing you will get with the kids is they will run through a brick wall for you so its something i will look closely at and may be in the second half of the season they will get a chance.”

Well, photos from Thursday's training session at Melwood reveal that Portuguese youngster Joao Carlos Teixeira is also training with the first team this week:

Could this mean that Teixeira is on the verge of actually making the first-team match-day squad? Let's hope so. Anyone who's watched the 20-year old play for LFC's youth teams will know that he's a very exciting player with lots of potential, and it would be fantastic to see him play in the Premier League.

As for Rossiter - he's very highly regarded at Anfield. When asked recently who he believes is the most 'exciting talent' at the academy, Jamie Carragher told the official LFC website:

"Jordan Rossiter trained with us a few times. I like the look of him. He's got a bit of character and steel that me and Stevie have had. He's not shy, will put himself about and clearly is a good footballer".

In a recent Twitter Q&A, Reds hero John Aldridge chose Rossiter as the 'brightest prospect at LFC's Academy'. He enthused:

"I like [Jordan] Rossiter. When he was 15 he was playing for the U18s, which is a tremendous accolade for the lad. He’s a great talent"

Anfield icon Robbie Fowler also believes the youngster has the potential to develop into the club's new talisman. Earlier this year, he tweeted:

"Jordan Rossiter is potentially a young Stevie G. He's a very good player"

Talk about raising expectations (!)

Rossiter and Teixeria to feature against Cardiff City, or even Man City...?

  1. No! Blimey, they are just training with the 1st team, it really is as simple as that.

  5. brad smith looks a lively on the wings and rossiter looks to be one for the future but maybe next year for a debut. to be honest it is nice to rossiter playing above his age but at the end of the day someone like yaya toure or like lee catermole would destroy this boy if given a debut. i thought that brannagan and rossiter would move up before tex and smith.

  6. Love it...great news, but let's make sure we are winning the game first. I can't believe Cardiff will take the field in good spirits though after their manager got the sack. I would hate to play for such a mercurial owner.

  7. Why isn't this seen as gross overpraise?!?!!?

  8. Does anyone know where Jordan Ibe is? I was impressed with him last season end and can't understand why he isn't on the game day squad even as a bench guy. JK, any data you can pass along?

  9. He played a blinder against Blackpool the other night, scored a super goal. He needs to work on his tactical awareness and defensive discipline. He's working hard and looks like a real prospect.

Hopefully he won't be fast-tracked into the first team and can develop in a low pressure environment a bit longer; hard for him though because with his skills it can be a bit boys vs men for him in the U21s. He could come through any time and make a positive impact, but I hope it's next season or even the season after that he gets a run in the side, to be honest, so he isn't burdened with unrealistic expectations (and an unrealistic contract) too early.

  10. Excited about Smith. Was concerned originally that his game lacked quality, especially passing-wise, but he's started to show some great touches, a bit of flair and confidence in his ability. Too soon for him I'm sure, but I'm more interested in him than in Flanagan or Robinson -- who looks to have found his level, really, in the championship.

  12. Robo,

Cool name! Thanks for the Ibe! How can a guy from USA get to watch games at U 21 level to see for myself?

  13. I like Rodgers view on this. People rave about Barkley and the kids at Southampton but we wouldn't have been talking about them had they been at Rafa's Liverpool. They will give you everything they have and they can only learn from playing matches. Sure there is a risk but I think the senior players prove every week that every player can have an off day so that risk is also there. They will make mistakes and there is no point in bringing three into our first eleven at the same time but they will be hungry and in some matches that's half the battle won.

  14. 2 year old? You sound like Wenger's protege` Jaimie.

  15. He's only 2 years old? Crikey!

  16. YES YES YES...bring them on! At least for 20 min esp. if we are in a winning position!

  17. This makes me so happy. Training with the 1st team can only be a good thing. Them together with Ibe should be given a chance in the FA Cup.

And if we are cruising against teams then they should come on!

    Onwards and upwards!

  19. Texeira been harshly treated by rodgers, he deserved a game a while ago, hope he makes the bench tomorrow but I dont think so, even if he does rodgers wont give him a minute, maybe hes preparing him to make his debut vs oldham later.. If were 3,4-0 up rodgers must give texeira at least 15mins

  20. When Kenny took over Hodgson and was actually playing proper football. The following season he blew it by trying to play long balls with Adam. On a side note don't put these ifs; Twice we had the opportunity to win 4 in a row under BR and we blew it both times. We actually didn't even turn up for both those matches (Against S'hampton and Swansea)

  22. I feel that teixeira and smith would benefit from a loan spell in the championship , but wether they will get enough playing time is debatable

    ReplyDelete
  23. When was he harshly treated?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Very silly comment IMO, In what world has he been harshly treated? He showed up with a squiggly back that was fixed and rehab'd by LFC and while i really like the kid he in no way deserves "at least 15mins" how about Alberto or Aspas get atleast 15mins then we can worry about some young kids getting some debuts.

  25. teixeira did go out on loan but was brought back rather quickly wasnt he? I dont remember the reason but maybe the U21's are a better suited comp for him.
The loan moves seem to be doing Wisdom and Suso well so maybe another try at a loan in Jan might do him some good.
