Game On: LFC in talks to sign 'skilled' €6m star with the most assists in Europe

Last week, the Liverpool Echo claimed that Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing VFB Stuttgart attacking midfielder Alexandru Maxim, and new reports today suggest that Reds are pushing forward with the deal.

According to the Liverpool Echo:

"Liverpool...could move for Stuttgart’s young Romanian playmaker Alexandru Maxim when the transfer window reopens in January.

"A host of European clubs [are interested], and the Reds are keen to steal a march on the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke".

Reports in Italy today claim that Liverpool are 'in negotiations' with Maxim's representatives, but face stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund for the playmaker's signature.

€6m-rated Maxim - a Romanian international - is in prodigious form this season, grabbing four goals and eight assists in eleven starts for Stuttgart.

Maxim's eight assists make him one of the top goal-creators in Europe, ahead of established stars such as Neymar (7 assists), Franck Ribery (6 assists), and Lionel Messi (4 assists).

Stuttgart signed Maxim during the January transfer window, so it seems unlikely that they'd sell him on just a year later, especially when he's in such great form for the club.

After signing the 23-year old, Stuttgart sports director Fredi Bobic enthused:

"With Alexandru Maxim we have acquired a technically skilled player who can be used in several positions in midfield. We see a lot of potential to develop"

If Brendan Rodgers is genuinely interested, Maxim's versatility is probably the key quality that attracted the Reds boss. He can play as a number 10, or out wide, which means he's suited to either 352 or 433.

Maxim may be on fire this season, but his career record of 14 goals in 107 games is nothing to get excited about.

  1. 'A recent poll of young Americans for the broadcaster ESPN found that football was second only to the NFL in popularity. Among young Hispanic Americans it was number one, and there are now almost as many Hispanic Americans as there are people in the UK' quote from an article on the BBC Sport website..

  2. My opinion is that when you have 5 defenders in the team you are playing 532 no matter how forward minded are they.

  3. Great adjustments. From when he started to now maybe.

Defensive, 2-0 defeat. Offensive, 4-0 win

I don't think he knows anything about soccer
