'I had problems' - €6m attacker explains why LFC transfer collapsed. Loss...?

Liverpool face Fulham at Anfield this weekend, and with Londoners in the midst of a run of poor form, the Reds have a great chance to get another win on the board and consolidate a top four position in the league. Cottagers midfielder Pajtim Kasami will be hoping to scupper Liverpool's chances, however, and it transpires that the Swiss attacker almost signed for Liverpool during the latter stages of the Rafa Benitez era.

As a teenager, Kasami underwent an 8-month trial at Liverpool, and would've signed for the club if not for an unfortunate paperwork snafu, which ultimately scuppered a proposed permanent deal.

Kasami told The Mirror:

“It went well [at Anfield] but I had some problems with my documents because I was very young. I have fond memories of my time up there. I met a lot of good people. I played two friendlies for the reserves, with players like Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso"

The 21-year old attacking midfielder - who cost Fulham €6m - is a regular starter this season, and he's grabbed 2 goals in 9 Premier League games for the club so far. I don't recall ever seeing Kasami play, so whether this turns out to be a loss for Liverpool remains to be seen.

Re the Fulham game - I think most fans will agree that it's a must-win game, especially for a team with genuine ambitions of finishing in the top four. It's a home game, and Brendan Rodgers will probably have a fully-fit squad from which to choose, including Coutinho, Johnson, and possibly Jose Enrique.

Additionally, the Arsenal defeat creates the ideal opportunity for Daniel Agger to return to the starting line-up. If Rodgers needed an excuse to swap out the defenders, this is it, and hopefully, he'll replace Mamadou Sakho, who could do with a break. Plus, it's the obvious choice to make as it's basically like-for-like.

I'll be extremely disappointed, however, of Martin Skrtel is dropped for Agger. The Slovakian is arguably LFC's best defender this season, and deserves to stay in the team (IMO).

Kasami's recent wonder-goal against Crystal Palace.

  1. Agger and Skrtel should be given a go tomorrow in 4 players defence. It is the perfect game for that- no matter how many goals we conceede, we should be able to score two more...

  6. Thanks for the effort but I do not own a computer, so downloading stuff is too comlplicated for me,plus it is risky(specially when it is not your comp).. 7. This will be the first 5-0 or 6 - 0 game of the season. Suarez will get another hat trick, sturridge will get one, and another from defense - couthinho with 3 assists. They've got injuries, hurt egos, and other key players out. Will be a pounding.
Skrtel will definitely not get dropped (scored in the last fixture) and is the best in defense. Agger to come back? Maybe, as you say good time to give Sakho a rest, motivate Agger.
I think this game, besides from the weaker opposition will be the true measure of the team - it includes all the key players (coutinho, johnson, enrique) - if there are any weak links they will be highlighted. If it's 3-5-2 I'd say drop Lucas, and leave Henderson - that seemed to work against CP

  8. In that case, the best you can do is watch the highlights on youtube.

  9. Thanks again.. By the way, why there is no match at 13 45?

There are often summaries of the match (should be about 15minutes long :) )

  13. that goal reminds me a lot of my favourite Torres goal.. Cant remember who it was against, but he picked it up in nearly the same spot and volley it in. One of the best goals i've seen.

  14. Mate, that's what we all said before the Newcastle game and we all know how that turned out.
Remember this is the prem and there are no easy games. Many a time the team in dispare has the most to fight for and causes an upset...let's just hope we dont see that side of Fulham this weekend

  15. I really hope you are right. However, anybody who watches the Arsenal tapes will notice how empty the middle of the field was of Liverpool players and I fear the secret is now out. We are very weak in the middle and every team we play until we get this fixed will exploit that weakness to the max.

  16. yawwwwn old repeated news

  17. You are right, but we will bounce back no matter what Fulham has planed for the weekend- it is a whole new Liverpool out there...

  18. Ya Matic is quality. Better than...

I hope BR loses the 352 today and don't let us risk an embarrassing lose to Fulham.
Everton, City, Chelsea, Spurs are coming up we can't afford to lose today or stay on the 352. We got to get our football back going and BR should spend all his spare time in figuring how to bit these teams.
A point on the Arsenal - Liverpool fixture: More than that that Arsenals player's beat our players; Wenger was way more prepared and managed his team way better than Rodgers.

Stop talking - Don't disappoint us. I say give BR deadline till end of season to make top 4 or move on.

  19. splash that cash on Alexis Sanchez rather ............

    ReplyDelete
  20. Matic , Rakitic and El Shaarawy can make us real top 4 contenders , but I don't think we have money to spend as it will cost around 70 millions to get them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why don't we play the 442 system? agger and skretel in central midfield
jhonson and enrique or sakho for the left back.
lucas and henderson for defensive midfield and move gerrard and coutinho in support for Suarez and Sturridge

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not familiar with Matic but is mentioned here several times this year. Sounds similar in size to Agger. why not give him a shot at DM?

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is a good idea, but you need a good consistent manager to pull things like that off.

Plus (less relevant but should be crossed) a manager who isn't afraid to drop players because price tags or names, or personal sentiments - or that he doesn't take a season and a half to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Could do, but I'd rather converto Sakho into DM.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I hope for either Matic Matuidi or M'Villa and either Turan or Ayew 2 of theese and we are set but its highly unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My solution to the lack of mobility in our midfield at present would be to have a midfield three of Henderson Allen and Alberto. Then I would have Coutinho behind SAS.

Today we will most probably see a midfield three of Gerrard Lucas and Henderson but if it goes tits up against Fulham then Rodgers will have no choice but to drop either Gerrard or Lucas or maybe both.

Fulham are really bad at the moment though so Gerrard and Lucas probably will not have too many hassles today. Well let's hope...

  27. Defensive midfield is an important role in the team, but you don't need to spend +£20m on the position

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's pretty irritating to watch Capoue for Tottenham and think as to how easily we could have got him, and just how much he'd add to our team

    ReplyDelete
  29. 20m on a defensive midfielder? You mention Capoue who was signed for under 10 million.

Morgan Schneiderlin is staring us right in the face and I am sure we can get him for around the same price.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Exactly - I can't think of many non-goalscorers, aside from the elite centre-backs, that have proved worthy of +£20m transfer fees.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Agree. We need another DM but not at 20M+. Greater priority is more creativity and goal scoring threat from midfield

    ReplyDelete
  32. If we buy him that means that Gerrard moves forward which brings creativity and goal scoring. Plus Ccoutinho, so dm for us is worth 25 mill..

    ReplyDelete
  33. Enrique or Sisoko on the left. please no more CBs on the flanks..

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sell that guy who is worth 70 mill and wants to leave...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Matic Di Maria and El Sharavy for Suarez.
Manu are aledgelly in for Matic. Just be above them in Jan and offer same money.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Spot on. There are several DMs around europe who would be cheap and probably hit the ground running. Africa seems to produce them at will. A tall DM would be handy for LFC and would compensate for the tiddlers BR is so fond of.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Not too far off the mark now was I???

    ReplyDelete
  38. see we played 442 today and won 4-0.. with a clean sheet

    ReplyDelete
  39. Much bigger than Agger, 6' 4".

    ReplyDelete
  40. Johnny,

Matic is bigger but only two inches on Agger who is 6' 2"

    ReplyDelete
  41. Matic is a strong, good player, but he is not fast enough for Premier League. And his price is too high...

    ReplyDelete
  42. All we need is an Ozil type player (a 20-30 million world class midfielder) who will replace Hendo in the current team. That would give us a big boost since imo Hendo is the least creative/technical player in the team

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes because spurs have made an outstanding start to the season..

    ReplyDelete
  44. Your logic implies that it is impossible for a player that would improve our team to be playing for a team that is performing worse than us? :-/

    ReplyDelete
  45. 15 minutes 4 goals and 1 chance- that long possesion with Coutinho fading away after dribling 2... What a poor defending from Sisokho after that one.. How did he play in general?
    Thanks again..

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not at all. Its just that I am getting sick of people pointing at player who happens to be playing okay and then stating how easy it would of been for us to sign him, (as we have some god given right when it comes to signing players).

Also who says he would add to our team?

The player has played only 4 games this season for spurs and has done nothing of any note.

    ReplyDelete
  47. For long may it continue...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Unforunately i couldnt watch the game because I went to support my local team in Austria :) I just watched the same stuff like you.. heard he was "ok" not brilliant and not bad...but however he's only a squad player on loan so who cares, Enrique will back soon And i honestly can't wait for that :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well seeing as I was posting regularly for at least the last two years as to why we should sign Capoue, that's not the case here.

And we could have easily got him if we wanted. The guy was readily available for aaages (as are most players in France), and by common accounts was open to moving to the relegation bound QPR last year. So yes, it would have been easy for us to sign him if the club had decided to pursue that option.

He was instantly inserted into Spurs' team when available, before picking up an injury which is why he has played a small amount of games. And finally, if you want to pretend that such a player wouldn't add anything to our team, then there's no point in me bothering with this argument anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  50. With just a few better crosses per game he is excatly what we need..

    ReplyDelete
  51. What is your team in Austria?

    ReplyDelete
  52. vorwärts steyr (small club playing in the 4th devision there) and austria vienna (they are currently in the CL, but are yet to score a single goal) - because i live there :)

  53. Ialways win money betting against them, so I do not mind...
