LFC chase exciting £10m Argentine star who rejected Barcelona. Coutinho mk 2...?

Liverpool are reportedly tracking Porto attacker Juan Iturbe, the latest in a long-ling of forward players to tediously labelled the 'new Lionel Messi'.

The 20-year old is currently on loan at Hellas Verona, and according to multiple sources today, including Portuguese newspaper A Bola, and Italian daily Tutto Mercato:

* Liverpool are 'closely following' the left-sided attacker.

* The Reds are ready to make the first move during the January transfer window.

Manchester United reportedly put in a £10m bid for the youngster prior to his move to Porto, and former United boss Alex Ferguson saw Iturbe as a 'natural successor to Ryan Giggs'. A few more facts:

* Iturbe rejected a move to Barcelona in 2010, opting to join Portuguese giants Porto instead.

* Part of the Argentina "sparring" squad, formed by the most promising youth players in Argentina, taken to the 2010 FIFA World Cup to train with the senior squad.

* Chose to play for Argentina at the U-20 level.

* Part of the 20 player squad for the 2011 South American U-20 South American championship, during which he scored the winning goal against Brazil.

Stats for the last three years:

2013-14: 3 goals/1 assist in 9 apps (so far)
2011-13: 3 goals/2 assists in 18 apps.
2011-12: 6 goals/2 assists in 32 apps.

  1. Messi is still the next Messi...he's only 26.

  2. On a purely statistical level shows a lot of promise, perhaps even more potential than coutinho (statistically speaking). 2 goals 1 assist 5 apps in Serie A (roughly 360 min) is better than PC's 0 in roughly the same amount of game time. They have similar shooting and creative stats, but Iturbe almost doubles PCs dribbles and tackles, wins more in the air, intercepts with more frequency.
Can't say I've seen him play, but his stats are very good. Based soley on this I'd say he's worth the 10M.
BTW, where did you get the 9 apps from? I found 4 starts 1 sub.

  3. no
    no more coutinhos
    find suarez's

  4. I wouldn't spend anything on anybody who couldn't play AM...that's where our need is now.

  5. He picked up that long ban because he's a cock!

  6. Why no Suarez stats? i.e 47 goals/assists in last 46 games. I have a feeling Suarez will outscore them this season.
Question: who do you think is better????
Bale won't handle the pressure well, will be played out of position to accomodate in form Di Maria, and Ronaldo - there's too many cooks in the Kitchen, so it will be hard for him match his record last season - even with better service and weaker opposition.
Suarez is just revving up, it's a world cup year, and he is motivated, and the team is so much better since the start of last season, that theres room for him and Sturridge to get piles of goals - maybe break a PL record each!

  7. sightly off topic, but why does Ibarahmiovic not get mentioned in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo? the goals he scored against PSG last week were absolutely brilliant. plus, i think he's won 8 titles in 9 years or something. he also scored 4 'flukey' goals against england ;-)
As for Suarez, thank you Kenny for standing by him, and well done to Rodgers and co for standing firm and not letting go in the summer. I think Chelsea might well run away with the league this year, but with SaS on fire and Coutinho back on Sat this could be a great year.

  9. Suarez is a quality player but he's no Bale.

Why do people spend so much time comparing two players who couldn't be more different (apart from diving abilities). If Suarez was as good as Bale, he would have gone for £86m - that seems a pretty good a pretty good argument to me.

  10. Ibra is a machine! Top 4 with Messi, Ronald, and Suarez.
As for who has to miss out on the WC between Ronaldo and Ibra, Think I'd rather Ibra - Ronaldo didn't even take a penalty against Spain in the last Euro - poor leadership on his part.

  11. Suarez doesn't attract millions of brits and anglos world wide to watch Real (TV Rights) and buy Merchandise like bBale. Suarez has got 3 Million supporters who will watch live streams on the internet and buy a Knock-off jersey at the flea market (mostly).
Beckham, Ronaldo, Bale, sell hair gel, perfume, underwear, and other stuff - their price is not a function of their ability.

  12. Real Madrid are a massive club and with that comes massive expectations. Do not think Bale was ready for the move to Madrid but fact of the matter is that Spurs are missing him big time. Think once Bale is over the culture shock then he will start to find his form again.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Different types of players. Suarez is technically better, Bale is physically more able. Overall though I think Bale has the potential to add better technique to his game and in the long run be a better player than Suarez, but on the other hand I think Suarez would have adapted far more easily to playing at RM...either way neither is worth the kind of money mentioned in the article if value is relative to ability.

  14. A player is worth someone is willing to pay and things such as buying club, selling club (do they need money), length of contract and age.

Both great players but Liverpool will not get anywhere near £85m

  15. On that argument Carroll is better than Suarez ?.

According to Aldridge Suarez is worth £105 million? He never managed in the top division and after five years Tranmere were relegated to what was the old Division 3 and he thinks he's an expert on finance and players worth. He hasn't had another manager job in over twelve years. Seeing his comment and assessment totally demonstrates why he is unemployable as a manager. Real Madrid are the only club likely to pay these massive amounts and I'd be prepare to bet Aldridge a large amount that they wouldn't get close to a bid of even £80 million for Suarez.
My old granny reckons Townsend is worth £150 million as he's the current rage for England but we laugh at her as she, like Aldridge appears to be, is senile.

  17. If Rooney had have scored any one of thee of the goals against West Brom we would be bombarded daily FOR A YEAR. Saurez has scored the goal of the season for the previous two years but never got it. away at Stoke in the cup and away at Norwich, again if Rooney had scored either (he couldn't) they both would have been goals of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Liverpool will want 85 million - and why not. he is better than Bale and Carvani. I think Madrid will try a straight swap for Bale in January or the summer, LFC should hold out for Bale plus 20 million.

    ReplyDelete
  19. To further that argument:
    Bale > All footballers.
    Mental.

  20. Unbelievably Steve Morgan ex lfc director ha been inviting Bettison to Wolves games - Answer simple Freemasonry.

  21. Its a bit ridiculous to say "as predicted Bale has struggling to make his mark" when he isnt even match fit yet. At least give him 10-15 starts before you write him off eh !!!! Its almost as if you want him to fail. Give the lad a chance. and yes Suarez should be as valuable.

    ReplyDelete
  22. We can all agree that Bale was not worth 105m. That's just what Madrid overpaid to get him.

He's saying Suarez is worth more than Bale... not that Suarez is worth 105m.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think £90m is a ridiculous value for a footballer but I would definitely value Suarez at over £60m. He is a unique player and as I have posted on here before I consider him irreplaceable for Liverpool. Its pleasing to see an article on this site that shows appreciation for the ability of Suarez as a player. It wasn't long ago that I was reading comments from Jamie saying that we would be a better team with him left out of it. I guess his displays since returning from the ban has managed to change even your opinion heh Jamie!!

  24. All great players. We're lucky to have one of them

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like your optimism :-)

  26. As a career move for Bale, besides the salary, he would probably be better off at Spurs than Madrid. He might not be fully fit, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him spend lots of time on the bench - if his form doesn't improve, he'll sit on the bench, if he can't handle the pressure he won't perform, if he doesn't start he won't improve - vicious circle alla Kaka.
Trouble with Real is there are a bunch of DBs there, bale may look like one, but doesn't seem to be a total DB. Look at Ozil, he doesn't look like a DB compared to CR7, Benzema, Ramos, etc - he left. It's a DB team.
I really hope Suarez doesn't end up there, doubt he would get benched, but having to watch a bunch of DBs to see him play would suck - I don't think he's a DB.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think you have it the wrong way round there mate. No way bale's as good as Suarez IMO (that doesnt mean he's not a great player) but either way, Madrid needed Suarez much more than they needed bale. They have ronaldo and di Maria, plus Ozil was still there at the time and could have added Suarez for half the price - their net transfer outlay would have been the same. With Ozil and Suarez instead of bale they would be easily up there with barca.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree. Plus he's been injured. I couldn't enjoy Bale's superb play whilst he was at Spurs, but was I'm hoping he rediscovers fitness and form, so I finally can!

    ReplyDelete
  29. We have, we've got the 'Welsh Xavi' in Allen. Have you forgot?! Lol no I like Allen and I think he'll come good this season. I think this guy shows a lot of promise... But I would like to see realised talent as apose to promise.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Find Suarez's what!?
    Tell me!

    ReplyDelete
  31. This one smells quite Coutinho-ey.
Something that good can't happen twice, so lets move along.

    ReplyDelete
  32. First of all. If it wasn't Suarez it wasn't even a question. If it wasn't Liverpool it wan't even a question. The hypocrite mega clubs would have brake the transfer record for him.

One thing for sure, Suarez will own Ronaldo in mental terms, will out score him easily, and will make Madrid a better team, and a trophy winner one. If not, he will at least be WAY more effective and consistent than Bale. It's his nature.
What strikes me funny really is that people forget this guy comes from a different culture. His 'falls' are actually the way they just play around the area he comes from. The atmosphere on the pitch is different. They come from bad situations and bad neighborhoods these players and one day suddenly get's loads of money and live in the most western society place on earth. And even more ironic, people who watches games from V.I.P rooms dares call HIM a racist and ban him for 7, 6, 10 matches. What hypocrisy. What a disgrace. Real Madrid offering 40mil after they're pathetic business done with they're twins Spurs for Bale, which is a brilliant player but they just don't get the picture; Suarez has that extra something no matter where and for who he plays. He doesn't care about anything in the way footballers should. I hope they and Spurs don't win anything big for 20 years.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hahaha. What naivety. What a narrow mind.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You know what. Let's see facts. Let's see how Real do under theyre current policy. So fat not that great this season. Let's see when the hell in the future are they're going to win champions league. They have Bale, Ronaldo, and tons of amazing other players. What have they won in recent year's? not alot. Let's see how Bale get's them Big trophy's which he suppose to get for this money he worths. Suarez would have put him to sleep in his first performance for Real and from there on, IMO . . . . . . . .
And nevermind that even. It should be talked because if they dare to offer us 40m only it's pure discrimination. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So 2 goals (one really flukey), 2 assists, and a dive for a pen (not called). Not a bad show for gareth.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey if this guy can make the switch from wing to AM then I'm in. If not thnI say forget him amd then move on.

    ReplyDelete
  37. sign him up beautiful footballer

    ReplyDelete
  38. Said it from the start, Bale will be successful at madrid. The league and team are set uo for a player like him. Will he reach the heights of Ronaldo and Messi? Not a hope. Doesnt mean he isnt successful. Michaelangelo never painted a Mona Lisa, still doesnt mean i woulxnt have him round to give the ceilings a lick of paint.
Unfortunately for Bale he's always gonna be compared to those two by the media because of his price tag. If he can forget the money paid for him, and ignore the comparisans he will be a great footballing asset for real.
Is he worth 100m? No way, but thats not his fault
Have a feeling had Real got him for 50m, at the end of the season everyone would be saying what a bargain he was.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'd argue that Michaelangelo's work was better than the Mona Lisa though. The Mona Lisa isn't spectacular but why it's famous is the smile. The smile that nobody can work out so I'd say Bale is the Mona Lisa because Mona Lisa is the most expensive but arguably not as beautiful as the works of Michaelangelo, Raphael etc.

Leonardo wasn't the better painter but he was brilliant all round like Gerrard while Scholes and Lampard and like Raphael and Michaelangelo. Unbelievable at a few things but other skills let them down. I know off topic but I just used Da Vinci to solve the Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes argument. See the man was a genius after death ;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Don't forget the goal against Newcastle? Or has time really flown?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think he was going to be number 5 and his reaction showed he was. I think the idea was if it came to it he would be the one with the most pressure but it never did. Gerrard also was going to be number 5 against AC Milan. he even stated so in his autobiography. He said that was his one regret in that final. Not taking a penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What did Spurs do wrong? They did brilliant business on their behalf. Their target was to get as much money of Madrid as possible for their player and they did. It's wrong to blame Spurs in this matter. What you should look at is how can 70%-80% of the world be in poverty yet a football club spend £85m on IMO an overrated player. Brilliant player but overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Honestly wouldn't mind if Chelsea win; I have a big soft spot for Mourinho. But I maybe prefer Arsenal over them, if we don't win of course.

  44. What do the Ninja Turtles have to do with any of this???

    ReplyDelete
  45. could be true, but the big guns gotta go first, set the tone.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The Ninja Turtles have got everything to do with it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeah true. For me I would always place the designated penalty taker 3rd because he could either be trying to make it easier for the next penalty taker while adding pressure to the opposition or he would be the one trying to salvage a glimmer of hope.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This Kid is very good in fifa manager mode..

    ReplyDelete
  49. Order doesn't matter that much. Look at the League Cup we recently won. Gerrard and Adam both have reputations as strong penalty takers, both missed. Who slotted it in when it mattered? good old Downing :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. True. It's just the way I've seen it for a while but any body can miss a penalty and any body can score one. It all comes down to luck.

  51. Bindippersarefunny2:59 am, October 31, 2013

Bale's fee was at least 60% for his brand and marketing value, it is a shame dim people can't see this and only look at footballing aspects. Suarez has no marketing value at all and his value is therefore only about his footballing ability. The market obviously says he is worth about £40m as no team was prepared to bid more. He is damaged goods and no marquee team wants to be associated with players that bite others purely to be allowed to change clubs. The man has mental issues.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yeah, I actually agree with you on the 3rd taker but the same argument can be applied to the 1st taker too. All based on hypotheticals though

    ReplyDelete
  53. You could say it about all the takers really. Possibly the second taker may have a little less pressure depending on the penalties taken before him but as you said it is all hypothetical really.

    ReplyDelete
  54. We have the Welsh Xavi!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Lol! He's one of the future stars!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Don't post son, just after spending hours in the pub, take some time, you are drunk. By your logic, Carroll is 1.5 times better than Suarez or Ashle Young/Downing is better than Sturridge/Coutinho.

Today, Luis is behind just players playing in Spain. & that too, not for being technically poor or leer in skill - it's a bit different to play for Real or Barca & LFC.

He is outstanding, & I think in few years time (at 29+), he 'll move to play maker's role & still 'll be one of the best. We already knew how good he was on ground with both feet, but he scored one of the "Headed" goal of EPL era last week. Bale was purchased for different "Business" model. After exchanging Ozil for Bale, Real is an inferior team & I rate Suarez much higher than Ozil.

    ReplyDelete
  57. DB?
    What does that stand for?

    ReplyDelete
  58. And that matters why?

    ReplyDelete
  59. looks decent. Depending on the fee I wouldn't mind signing him. Seems to have quality on the ball, knows where the goal is and has pace to burn so he could be an exciting signing for us.

    ReplyDelete
  60. If you're fifa fan then it'll matter...

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ya but they had splinter, bale has nobody.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thats some pretty sound logic, but it still doesnt answer the question of who's gonna paint my ceiling...

    ReplyDelete
  63. How about some cover for AM first. Don't look any further than Hoffenheim's Roberto Firmino. 22, Brazilian, 7 goals, 4 assists in 9 games this season ... the kid has 22 goals in 83 Bundesliga appearances in total. Bags of potential ...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Zidane could be Splinter?

    ReplyDelete
  65. It is isn't it? I even surprised myself. Well if you want it to be perfect either Lampard/Scholes but if you want to say you got it done by the best get it from Gerrard but if you are working on a budget you may have to get Steven Gerrards cousin Anthony to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I would just say they did do something very wrong and takes some thinking to figure it out.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Without the 'bite', he would have been gone. He was not as marketable after the bite. Real would have paid a high amount and we would have accepted that amount in the summer. Simple as that. We were lucky if you ask me the way things worked out. And further, when, and I say *when* we reach champ league next season, he will stay. That's in his simple head. We draw big players again. On the upswing again. Sustaining many anew years in champ league going forward. Good work BR in the summer keeping LS. That will be remembered I'm sure as a key move.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The only thing they did wrong was selling their best player. They bought the replacements before he left and got a lot of money out of him. The players they bought just need time to get used to each other and the team and league.

    ReplyDelete
