A few months ago, Agent Jorge Cyterszpiler confirmed Liverpool's interest in Argentinian striker Luciano Vietto, and new reports today suggest that the Reds are still tracking the 19-year old.
In September 2012, Brendan Rodgers sent LFC scouts to assess Vietto, who currently plays for Racing Club in the Argentine Apertura.
Then, in May, Cyterszpiler - Vietto'a Agent - told Tuttosport:
"The whole world wants Vietto, including Liverpool, Real Madrid, Juventus and other international clubs. Vietto is the best young player in Argentina. "
According to the Daily Mail today:
"Liverpool and Manchester City are among clubs to have asked about Argentina prospect Luciano Vietto. Both clubs have been monitoring the teenager’s development for over a year".
When asked last night about Vietto's future, Cyterszpiler again reiterated his belief that Vietto is the 'best young player in Argentina', and further added:
"I have received many offers from several European clubs"
€8m-rated Vietto scored a fabled 'perfect' hat-trick - left foot, right foot and header - against Club Atletico San Martinu in a league game in September 2012:
Vietto - who scored another hat-trick in April against Newell's Old Boys - made 29 senior appearances for Racing Club this season, scoring 11 goals along the way, but he missed the last quarter of the season after undergoing surgery for a bilateral inguinal hernia.
Liverpool spent £8m each on Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto over the summer, and both players are struggling to make it into the first team. With Suarez and Sturridge ahead of him, would it be any different for Vietto...?

Thing is, for strikers we don't need first choice players right now so a 19-year-old will do. First things first though. First we need a proper DM.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Eric that a young striker to complement Suarez and Sturridge would be a good plan. Also, I'd definitely give Alberto a run this weekend against Palace. If we dont give him a run out at Anfield against a bottom 3 club then when will we?
ReplyDeleteWhy not? I'm all for signing him and sending him out for loan to get some first team expirience at a top team. He'll get some expirience, prove his worth, and come back to replace Suarez if/when he's gone. He might turn out a bargain like Coutinho.
ReplyDeleteBut honestly I think our main targets should be two central midfielders - a defensive one and one who can dictate play, and then a backup right back(unless Kelly starts playing again).
I think Lucas has been playing below par this season and Gerrard is not as consistent as he used to be. His performance against Sunderland pleased me, but against Southampton and even Aston Villa he was having a bad day all around.
In what position?
ReplyDeleteMid-centre-back position. It's a new position invented by Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteNo belief in the Welsh Xavi then have you? The difference between Gerrard and Lucas is that you know that Gerrard, over the season, will alway contribute in a positive way. With Lucas, you just know he's not a DM. Everybody knows. Everybody except for Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question! assuming henderson fills in for Lucas why not in the coutinho attacking midfield role? i certainly hope we dont play 3 CBs for this game!
ReplyDeleteIt's the perfect solution. So you have two fit and proper center halfs and one that you paid a ridiculous amount of money for who was fourth choice at his own club which, incidently, went out and bought all three players ahead of him showing just how little faith they have, so you have to play him just because your ego is more important than the good of the club. What do you do? You play all three of them, put a DM that isn't actually a DM in front of them just to make sure even Sunderland can score against you and put an attacking midfelder at right wing back. Just so you don't have to admit after four weeks already that you're absolutely clueless when it comes to transfers.
ReplyDeletewe need him
ReplyDeleteone more striker
Next week, a totally new positions centre-back-forward.
ReplyDeleteAll in all I think he's playing the hand he was dealt quite well, injuries and all.
And there is a bonus with this, that opposition will not know what to expect as far as tactics go.
and in the last year of his contract...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about our summer transfer beeing the roaring success at the time, and the more i read about the effort clubs like Spurs put into signing top quality targets, the more i despair of ian Ayre. Now rodgers is forced to play a brand of football that is IMO opinion is certainly no better than under dalglish. Square pegs and round holes has been used on here before and it is apt. I agree Moses, Mignolet, Coutinho and Sturridge were all great deals and I hope Alberto, Aspas, Ilori and Sakho (price we paid is a joke!) will come good, but it's the ones we needed and didn't get that p*ss me off (Erikson is just one of many examples),...
Totally agree. we need someone to cover for Lucas and Enrique.
ReplyDeleteHe can play as a no 10 or false no 9 .
ReplyDeleteThere is cover for Enrique Cissoko, but he's injured.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for signing young players even though prices seem so inflated. At least this guy has a little first team experience though.
ReplyDeleteHowever, what annoys me is that 8m each was spent on Alberto and Aspas. What can these guys do that an academy kid can't do?
Aspas for example (initially looked promising), featured in a few games and is now on the bench. That could of easily been Adam Morgan. Alberto thus far has contributed nothing.
I'm not slating the two guys individually but they seem like unnecessary signings at a total cost of 16m.
If transfermarkt is to believed, he has Italian citizenship which is a bonus - otherwise it would be difficult to get a work visa. (anyone know about this, have many players been refused visas???)
ReplyDeleteMight be worth it just for the sell on opportunity, the work visa issue doesn't allow for English clubs to easily get young prospects from outside of europe. If he turns out to be good, like a Lamela, etc. Money to be made, or a good option to field for some games.
For the player's sake, if he does get bought, hope is put to use, often these prospects get no further than the bench and don't develope their full potential.
I agree with most things you said except the thing about Lucas. Lucas has been occupying deeper roles for years and has successfully adapted his game to a much more defensive style.
ReplyDeleteUnless we play a 4-3-3, Lucas is not given the role of a dedicated DM. In most cases, he is a second centre mid partnering Gerrard who has a defensive, ball winning duty. His defensive mentality is essential as no one else has it in midfield. Lucas is a key player and it would be difficult to find a proper upgrade on him for an affordable price. I'd say, 20m+ for someone proven and better.
LARS BENDER WOULD BE NICE. NEED TO MOVE QUICK THOUGH AS THE OTHER BIG GUNS ARE WATCHING HIM CLOSELY.
ReplyDeleteCISSOKHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE COVER FOR ENRIQE.
ReplyDeleteSo u would drop 1 or both strikers then ? we cannot afford to so the other players will have to take their chances when injuries etc happen.
ReplyDeleteslate them cos they have been crap. Aspas imo has been one of Pools worst signings ever.
ReplyDeleteSorry mate - I don't understand your question? i think it's clear no-one would propose dropping Suarez or Sturridge. Lucas is banned so assuming Henderson fills in there with gerrard, i would think about giving alberto a run in the attacking midfield role. i would not play feel the need to play every centre back we have against a bottom 3 side at anfield
ReplyDeleteI'm not being funny but why so down on Sakho? He looks good and his stats back that up and that is whilst looking like there is still a lot more to come from him. Perhaps looking at the form of both Skirtle and Agger last season as well as Agger's injury record and Toure's age should be considered. PSG wanting to pair Brazilians is their bushiness and doesn't necessarily mean the player is bad we have seen how teams with more money than sense have treated Sturridge and Toure as well as Coutinho not getting in to Inters team. Judge the lad on his game not something that has many possible reasons that you aren not even considering.
ReplyDeleteAlso playing 3 at the back gives defenders more options rather than passing back to Mignolet and suffering from his poor distribution or perhaps the possibility that it also gives both Suarez and Sturrdige central roles. You've jumped to a conclusion that suits you rather than the many other possible reasons.
ReplyDeleteHaving said all that we should have signed players in other positions such as DM and a forward. Perhaps a RB too. Not every transfer is a success no every window. We have had many managers and we have seen windows and many dreadful signings. These things are not new. I'm not getting carried away with our start, but lets see us fall out of the top four before we start to criticise hey?!
I completely agree with Phil. Play Alberto in the No.10 role, either with three at the back or reverting to 4-3-3 (my preference).
ReplyDeleteIn due time, they will get what's coming from everyone unless something changes. But in the mean time, it's far too early for that. I supported guys like Lucas and Hendo is one of my favourite players so Aspas and Alberto will get some time from me, although it's running out.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I'd love that I don't think there's a chance. I think he's one of those players where everyone is waiting for the other to make their first move before a bidding war ensues and sadly, we don't compete in that arena anymore
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should be looking at Lakaku he has been loaned out twice now maybe Jose doesn't think to much of him, he seems to score everywhere else he plays and he is huge and fast and he can score goals could be an option?
ReplyDeletethat would be superb, but i can't see it happening - he's got to be heading towards the 30m mark (Chelsea paid quite a bit for him i think) and that is an awful lot to pay for a third striker, unless Suarez leaves.... I'm stunned mourinho loaned him out in the first place
ReplyDeleteJK (or anyone else) - what do you make of the Pastore link? His career seems to be at a similar crossroads to that of Coutinho before he joined us. We've been linked with him in frequently - worth a bid in January?
ReplyDeleteHe cost chelsea 20mill (approx) he hasn't really played for them so maybe Jose is quite happy the way his team is and doesn't see him in there. Depending on how much money we have come Jan, 1 attacking midfielder and Lakaku would be nice, maybe put in a bid around 20 mill chelsea don't loose money and all they can do is say no.
ReplyDeleteHaving him in the team would just add to the threat that is already there, anyway just wishful thinking.
i'm guessing he's Everton's player for the season, so we'd probably have to wait until next summer
ReplyDeleteI actually don't mind Allen and I think he'll improve. But he's not worth his 15M, and should be a squad player unless he fullfilles his potential.
ReplyDeleteAbout Lucas - I wonder what he is if not a DM... Maybe he's just a good scout? He did find Coutinho.
Lukaku will be first choice for everton all season, i have a feeling thats why we didnt even look for him and got Moses instead. He would have no interest in sitting behind Suarez and Sturridge in the pecking order, he would have a better chance for games at Chelsea. The lad thinks he's good enough to be a first choice striker at prem league level, and from what i've seen over the last 18months he's not wrong.
ReplyDeleteAn agent claiming his player is wanted by every big club in the world, and that he has the best young star in Argentina on his books? Well i never heard the likes.... :)
ReplyDeleteDont know much about this la, but the last thung we'll need in Jan is another teenager i think. An established AM and DM will surely be the priority.
We can wait until the summer to buy more 18/19 year olds, after we've sold or loaned out the ones we bought this year of course :)
In fairness to Alberto he has got little to no game time compared to Aspas, so his contributions will of course be minimal. Still not ready to give up on them yet though. It's going to be tough for them to change opinion with the carling cup exit, no europa league, they're oppertunities will be very limited.
ReplyDeleteAs much as Hyppia loves Liverpool, he's not going to let his midfielder join without a hefty fee. Also, Leverkusen are top 3 in Germany and in the Champions League. Would Lars want to come here?
ReplyDeletethe only thing exiting about this deal is the agents name...the world is awash apparently with the next Madonna or pele...thats 30 mario kempeses this year and counting ...
ReplyDeletereally thats a tough one ..when we have had sean dundee
ReplyDeletewe need someone better than both of them. Give me a break, every time enrique has the ball i sit hoping he wont f**k u somehow. Cissokho is good for second choice but nothing more.
ReplyDeleteup***......
ReplyDeleteYeh, add Clint Dempsey to that also.
ReplyDeleteClint Dempsey RUBBISH
ReplyDeleteGet a grip...
ReplyDeleteEven at the time I couldn't understand WHY we signed Aspas and Alberto!
ReplyDeleteYou are so wrong regarding Sakho. PSG got Qatari riches in abundance & certainly thought for their status co, they need to buy for crazy money & buy from outside. Latin players are extremely popular & obnoxiously rated in middle east & Asia, therefore those arrogant Qataris spent crazy for Silva, Moura, Cavani, Lisandro, Pastore, Alex, Marcinhos.. No way, Marcinhos or Alex is better than Sakho & Mamadou left PSG not for being 4th choice, rather being unjustly treated. For few months last year, when Sakho paired with Silva or Alex (for other ones' injury), PSG defense looked most solid.
ReplyDeleteSakho ad a very difficult debut both home & away, but he was never among the worst 3 players. Recall Gerard's performance against Swansea or S'mpton, before bashing Sakho. At 23, he has every potential to be a world class CB, & his price tag is much better than 27mn for Marcinhos or 38mn for Silva that PSG paid. Without the easy money, PSG won't have got those mercenaries & I am sure one day they 'll pay for the injustice to Sakho.
By the way, had Mamadou been English, he would have priced at least 25mn & we might have paid 35mn (you know 35mn :)) for him.
BR is playing with an unconventional formation, not from the pressure of accommodating his trophy buy, let's be sure about that first. With our current physical ability, League 1 club Notts County could came back in second half from 2-0. Without Sakho, we 'll concede at least a pair in second half, every match. On current performance, agree or not, our best CB pairing 'll be Sakho & Kolo.
ReplyDeleteI think, BR is forced to change his formation for not having a back up Right back. English players are over hyped & latest in this line is Wisdom, Sterling & Kelly. After 1-2 years of experience, none of them has improved further & I don't think at Right Back, BR rates either Wisdom or Kelly. Actually, he doesn't rate them as CB as well, that's why we had been constantly at the trails of young CBs & already have bought Illori, Paez despite having Lyod Jones in youth ranks.
Enrique (another KK purchase) is anything but a LB & BR doesn't back him as full back, rater forced to play him as left midfield. BR is feeling the pressure of a very thin squad with injury problems. I think, once Pipo, Johnson & Aly returns, BR 'll move to his conventional 433 (4231) formation & might play Agger as DM or LB.
Mignolet
Johnson, Kolo, Mamadou, Aly/Agger
Lucas, Coutinho, Agger/SG
Moses/Henderson, Sturridge/Suarez, Suarez/Sturridge
Honestly speaking, SG don't have the legs to start now. He may come for last 30 min, or at best can start for first 60 min.
He can be the next Suarez, Torres for us. He is definitely not a false prospect. He is kind of a combination of Suarez, Messi, And a classic attacking midfielder in his play and he is good.
ReplyDeleteI can't see us getting him unless he feels it would be a good platform for his career to not go to big big clubs off start, and, if we preform constant attractive football till the window comes.
He looks like a cocky kid as well, he would probably go for City, or Juventus, or Real - most likely the first two. Dortmund would probably join in as well eventually, and as they said, everybody else two. We should make our biggest efforts. He also play's wings, behind the striker, and attacking midfielder; he is not a natural striker in his position at all.
I'm enjoying our targets so far since the beginning of the season - Wonder if and how disappointed i'm going to get.
The point is we wanted to sign him and made a mess of it
ReplyDeleteWorths four bids. He will be a better signing in terms of influence than Sturridge and Coutinho.
ReplyDeleteThis kid is way better than what you have in mind. Wayyy better.
ReplyDeleteYes they should try to get him this is the kind of young talent that can become world class and he would still get opportunities at Liverpool more so than at many other big clubs.
ReplyDeleteThat would be some signing! Fingers crossed then :-)
ReplyDeletecover for Enrique is Cissokho and cover for Lucas is Henderson/Allen although that's not their area...but they have been deployed there before
ReplyDeleteBottom line is, every club is looking for the next Ronaldo. Bought for less than £10m and sold for much more after a stellar season or two.
ReplyDeleteHow many of us REALLY thought that that preening, overplaying slip of a lad would go on to score at a goal a game?
Be honest.
We have to take chances on these guys, we can't afford them AFTER they prove themselves. Mistakes WILL be made, but for me 1 Coutinho is worth the mistakes made on Coates, Assaidi, etc ......
shhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteHe probably is, like i said, i don't know too much about him i don't get to watch much Argentinian club football, and prefer not to base my opinions on Youtube clips or ratings in Fifa.
ReplyDeleteMy point is we need someone who can contribute to a CL push this season, not a year or two down the line. Thats where our priorities should be.
Not at all, there are at least five in Germany alone. Lucas came to us as "the next Gerrard". A box to box midfielder and he was forced into a more defensive role because we sold Mascherano and someone thought it would be a good idea to give Lucas that position. The fact that Lucas gets so many yellow cards and gives away so many free kicks to close to goal show that he's not a good DM. Take Mascherano or better yet, Edgar Davids as an example of a typical DM. Davids went an entire season at Juventus without picking up a single yellow card yet still getting the highest stats on retaining and regaining the ball. Masch picked up a couple of cards in his time too but never as many as Lucas. One of the main reasons for that is that these guys make the fouls in midfield, where they don't result in any dangerous situations in front of goal and where refs are more likely to let you off with a warning. I'm not saying Lucas is a bad football player or that he doesn't do the best he can. He does. He's just not the right guy for the position he's currently in. I'd be more than happy to keep him as long as someone else comes in to play DM for him.
ReplyDeleteI think Allen should be told to pass forward and risk losing a ball once in a while. It's basically Jamie Redknapp all over again. When Redknapp played, you knew he wouldn't lose the ball very often but you also didn't expect much when he had it. Then Houllier was forced to play Gerrard one day and this kid came out of nowhere and starting playing the ball 30 yards nearer to goal. Sure he lost it a couple of times but when he did the ball would be near the opposition defence so no immediate harm would come of it. People got excited by Gerrard because he moved the game forward. I'm convinced Allen can do the same but he or whoever is telling him to pass sideways needs to make that click in his brain that says, I have the ball, how do I get it up the pitch into danger, rather than how do I not lose it.
ReplyDelete
