Transfer Coup: LFC want 'unhappy' £10m attacker who 'feels like a failure'. Bid...?

Liverpool are reportedly considering a January transfer bid for Pari St. Germain attacker Jeremy Menez.

According to reports in France this week:

* LFC and Monaco are tracking Menez.

* PSG prefer to sell to LFC ahead of Monaco as they don't want to strengthen a direct rival.

Things are not looking good for Menez at the moment. During PSG’s recent Champions League win over Benfica, the 26-year old threw a strop and stormed out of the stadium after Laurent Blanc refused to bring him on.

Menez is now reportedly banned from training with the first team, which is only going to inflame the situation further.

Menez's unhappiness at PSG is a long running issue. In February, he told Telefoot:

"I need to feel trust, and the day I will not feel it again, we will have to find a solution. We will see at the end of the season what they [PSG] want."

A few weeks later, Carlo Ancelotti dismissed Menez's complaints, and hinted that PSG wouldn't stop him from leaving. He told reporters:

"The transfer market is over, Menez has to stay here. If he is not happy in June, he could ask to leave, as others players did. He is an important player for our team, but competition is logical in great teams,"

In July, Menez's agent, Jean-Pierre Bernès, warned PSG that the player would leave the club unless he played a bigger part in the first team. He told France Football:

"Jeremy is a competitor, but feels like a failure at PSG. He hates being on the bench all the time, and feels it is an injustice. If he has to leave, there will be many clubs interested in him"

Liverpool have been linked Menez several times in the past:

* 2010: Rafa Benitez tried to sign Menez during the January transfer window, but the player decided to stay at AS Roma.

* 2011: Menez hinted that he'd leave Roma after a bust-up with Roma Coach Vincenzo Montella, and according to The Mirror, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish kept an eye on the winger.

* 2013: Brendan Rodgers reportedly considered putting in a £10m bid for Menez.

Menez can play on either wing, or as a second striker, and it's this attacking versatility could be useful for Liverpool. Stats last season:

* 5 goals/10 assists in 38 apps.
* 2011-12: 8 goals/4 assists in 40 apps.

Worth a look in in January?

  1. Seems like he has too much of an ego - falling out with coaches left right and centre.
    He may be a good talent but we don't need a player to disrupt the team spirit that has been key to our successful start to the season.

  2. Yeah, good player that I wouldn't mind LFC bidding for.

    Our defense is stocked and I don't think we need much additions there but the Austrian guy would be a cool addition in case one of the signings fail to make the impact they're expected to in the future.

    I think a midfield trio of Coutinho, Pastore and Lars Bender would be so good for us only if we could sign the other two. I think we should go for Strootman as well, its time for him to make that next step and he wouldn't cost much and will provide competition for Hendo. I don't think Lucas, Allen and Gerrard are as mobile as the one's I mentioned and signing those players could make us a contender for the title let alone top 4.

    Last comes our striking department which I feel is very weak compared to our rivals. We only have Suarez and Sturridge who can be expected score surely but what if Suarez gets sold come January which is a possibility and something happens to Sturridge? I think we need to get one more striker who we can rely on scoring because the current options aren't too intimidating for the opponents.

  3. He certainly has talent, we've known that from when he was a youngster, so you're forced to ask, why hasn't he made it?
    Personally, if we could get him for £8mil or less, I think he'd be a good option and could end up being a masterstroke since he is undoubtedly talented.
    I wouldn't go up to 8 figures for him though.

  7. I think that after they've managed to rob us blind with Sakho they're probably in a positive mood that they can make us overpay like gobshides a second and a third time yes.

  8. How do you figure they have robbed us with Sakho?

  10. Not at all sure he's better. He's not as quick and his touch isn't as sure. He is determined and intelligent on the ball but he lacks a feint, has to power through players to beat them. Given his record I'd be concerned whether he could cope with the mental challenge of the Premier League, the relentless competition. Would be a nice squad player but he obviously wants more, so hard to see this happening.

  11. I find it strange that you are not slating this guy, Jaimie. Bust up with coach at Roma. Storming out of the ground in CL game.

    Sounds like just the kind of guy we need in the dressing room.

  12. 18 million? For a player from their bench? Who had just moved further down the picking order with the arrival of Marquinos? Who had not had a run in the side for yonks? Aside from his limited footballing ability, we get 5 million for Downing and 6 million for Shelvey yet we pay three times that for a benchwarmer somewhere else?

  13. I agree with what you say, however you have to take into account it was near the end of the window and if fans had heard we wouldnt stump up that extra cash then fans would have been complaining after missing out on the likes of Miktaryan and willian. I think the fee we were trying to get for was 13 mill from what was reported so weve paid an extra 2 and from what i read an extra 3 million in bonuses. He is getting better so fingers crossed in a few years we are saying money well spent.

  14. To be honest, I don't think fan pressure had much to do with it. If the club or its managers, present and past, cared only one little bit about what the fans want we would have seen many other players at the club and far more others not.
