With the tedious international break finally over, it's back to business for Liverpool FC, and with a tough trip to the Liberty Stadium coming up on Monday, there's good news and bad news on the injury front.
In his pre-Swansea Press conference today, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers provided updates on the club's walking wounded.
On Daniel Sturridge:
"We’ll know more over the next couple of days, but by the time Monday comes it will have been two weeks [since getting injured].
"For a grade one strain, the medical experts will tell you that it’s perfectly reasonable to be back playing in that timescale".
On Joe Allen:
"Joe has trained with the team, and he looked good this morning. He’ll most certainly be fighting for a place on Monday".
On Kolo Toure:
"Kolo is without our physiologists and is working well, and should be available for Monday".
On Aly Cissokho:
"Cissokho is still a few weeks away yet, but working hard".
On Glen Johnson:
"It’s a disappointment. He [Johnson] has made a good start, and he was excellent against Man United. He’ll probably miss about four Premier League games, and we hope he'll be back in about five weeks"

At least the more important players should be back. As for Johnson, as much as he bugs me, he's done alright. This might sound crazy but what about Speedy Gonzalez (Illori) as right back, surely he can offer as much on defense as wisdom, and probably more on offense - could work.
ReplyDeleteI would argue that England's right-back is quite important...... :)
ReplyDeleteWe will need to be very sharp against a strong Swansea defence. Unless Sturridge has had a few good training sessions I would start him on the bench and give him a run out in the last half hour.
ReplyDeleteJohnson will be a big miss, but this gives Wisdom another chance to prove his worth.
50/50. His skills are definitely above average, but he's hot and cold. His contributions are as often negative as they are positive. Man U - positive. Notts county negative. Some competition for his place is needed, he consistantly starts, but doesn't consistatly perform. Yes he makes nice dribbles and brings the ball up the pitch, but too often he will blow it over the net or attempt a needless dribble that nulifies his contribution - even slacking in defense. It might be a blessing in disguise that he's out - maybe one of the new guys can work as RB.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that myself. He used to be a striker so he has that attacking touch.
ReplyDeleteShelvey is likely to play dirty on Monday - tell Stevie G to get his foot in first. Johnson should be back in 2 weeks - he is a man not a mouse
ReplyDeletewhat the hell are you even talking? By the way - were´s bale now and weres suarez ;) ?
ReplyDeleteyou have an excellent memory :P
ReplyDeletemaybe kelly ? he played a full game against manu reserves so maybe he could fill in ? .-.
ReplyDeleteI'm not confident about this game to be honest. Trying to think how we will cope and play if we fall behind 1st.
ReplyDeleteDont worry, we've been scraping the results of late but we'll start banging them in soon. Cant see a loss here to be honest. I wouldnt really be fearing Swansea with the team we'll be putting out. :)
ReplyDeleteThese injuries are obviously not good news, no injuries are. It will make an already testing match a lot harder, every team however has injury crisis, and must deal with them through the squad they have.
ReplyDeleteHad this been last season i would be worrying, but at the moment i think the signings rodgers has made over the summer have put us in a great position to deal with injuries. I feel we have the players to weather this even if it means a tweek on the formation, another encouraging sign of the progress in the team.
For me its still a win, though i do think we'll lose the clean sheet.
1-3
I think Illori is a good shout based on the pace he's supposed to have, but has he ever played that position before? If not it might be asking a bit much to play him out of position for his debut in a new country. Maybe though he could be a revelation if he's got the ability to beat a man, it could be interesting to bring him on there if we had the game in the bag
ReplyDeleteJohnson has been fantastic under Rodgers. Henderson has improved a lot but so did Johnson. It just went unnoticed because Henderson was seen as a flop the season before and opinions were always split over Glen. It'll be a good opportunity for Wisdom though so let's hope he can step up to the plate and give not just Swansea but also GJ a tough time.
ReplyDeleteAre you serious? Johnson is such a good full-back... he would have played for any of the famous European club sides of the last 20 or 30 years, with only a very few exceptions... I don't even.... what?
ReplyDeleteI see draw written all over it. Also, BR saying after match that to expect 3 points against Swansea is delusional, we did very well.
ReplyDeleteJohnson runs the show for us...............from right back. He's our play maker, a MASSIVE player for us.
ReplyDeletethink keith Curle
