The Agent of long-time Liverpool target Arda Turan has confirmed that the Atletico Madrid star will almost certainly move to the Premier League this month, and with the Reds (and Arsenal) reportedly monitoring the Turkish winger, could a move to Anfield be on the cards?
According to ESPN, both Liverpool and Arsenal are 'interested' in signing Turan during the current transfer window, and over the weekend, the player's Agent - Ahmet Bulut - confirmed that English clubs are on the prowl. He told NTV Sport:
"A transfer of Arda to the Premier League this summer is likely.
"England is where most of the interest in him lies and they are well informed about Atletico's stance. There have been discussions, and if they pay his release clause there is nothing the club [Atletico] can do"
Monaco reportedly made an £14.5m bid for Turan last month, but Bulut confirmed that Atletico rejected the offer, adding:
"No team has come close to offering the €24m (£20m) stated in his contract, but there has been a lot of activity this summer."
Liverpool have been linked with Turan many times in the past:
* Apr 2009: Rafa Benitez made a €10m move for Turan, a self-confessed Liverpool fan, but the tricky winger ended up moving to Atletico Madrid.
* Dec 2009: Turan made it clear that he favours a move to Liverpool: told reporters:
"I most want to play at Liverpool because of the culture of the club and the fans"
* Mar 2010: Turan reiterated his Anfield preference:
"As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition. In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for them".
* Oct 2012: Nuri Sahin posted a picture on his Twitter account of Turan in a Liverpool shirt.
* Oct 2012: Liverpool sent an 'observer' to watch Turan in Turkey's World Cup qualifier with Romania.
* Dec 2012: Bulut, told Turkish television channel TRT:
"Arda wants to play for another club, to live a different experience. We are working now to make it happen. Atletico know what our intention is. If all goes well, Arda will leave the Madrid club at the end of this season."
* Mar 2013: Reports in Spain claim that the Reds are lining up a €20m summer bid for the Turkish star.
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo is a massive fan of Turan, and he praised the midfielder at a recent press event. He told Reporters:
"We have two fantastic Turkish players, we made an excellent decision in signing Arda Turan and Emre Belözoğlu. They are great people and have amazing talent on the field."
In a recent press conference, Reporters quizzed Madrid Coach Diego Simeone on Turan's future, and the Argentinean boss gave the following emphatic reply:
"Arda isn’t going, definitely. He has a contract with the club, he’s ours, he’s an extremely important player for the squad and he demonstrates it when he has to. Arda is one of the best players we have and that he gives his all in every game".
Turan's recent injury history is a concern; in the last 15 months, he's suffered three separate incidents, and the last thing Liverpool need right now is to buy more injury-prone players.
The Reds are currently linked with a move for Brazilian star Willian, but if that fails (which seems likely at this stage), would Turan be a palatable alternative option?

I've wanted us to sign Arda Turan for the last 2 years and would prefer him to anyone else we've been linked with. £20 million is a bargain IMO
ReplyDeleteWe are back to the same old same old, could it be that our 3rd choice player will slip through our grasp?
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong I don't believe we have ever been going for willian.
ReplyDeleteAnd I never believe after Big Andy that FSG would spend that type of money on willian or turan .I other way I believe they want other clubs to bid on them so we don't get it so at the end they say we were active but unlucky.
Then again I could be wrong and hope I am.
We also should sign Sakho now in the CD. and think if Lucas has injury we are in trouble.
Yeah all players love LFC, 2 examples Torres and Suarez. Pull the other one!!!!
ReplyDelete15mn max
ReplyDeleteIf the keeper Does not save the penalty. We would of done the same thing we did last year struggle to put away teams on the bottom end of the ladder.
ReplyDeleteCause we won we are the best 70% we have ball cant score hit post last year it was the other keeper ,
No thanks....
ReplyDeleteRakitic is a great backup for Lucas....just saying
ReplyDeleteNot even a defensive Mid???????
ReplyDeleteYeah try to bring in Willian & Sakho now........and if by chance Suarez moves on, bring in Jackson Martinez & Rondon
ReplyDeleteSo AVB has told sky sports new they haven't bid for willian, which is positive....
ReplyDeleteHow sad is that - we now have to hope no one else goes in for the player we want in order to get him? Two days ago this forum was full of people convinced we'd be signing him and it takes one article on skysports about betting odds changing for all that good spirit to turn into doom and gloom. We won't sign Willian, we won't sign Turan but we will listen to BR telling us how difficult it is to sign good players when you're not in the Champions League and how we will try again in January.
ReplyDeleteOne step at a time - lets just beat spurs to the signature of Willian shall we - the Suarez affair was distressing enough.
ReplyDeleteWe got the desire, the combination play up front, we're slashing the inflated wage bill by getting rid of under-performers and BR and John Henry are slowly cleaning up the tarnished image of the club. Great start, no nonsense.
YNWA Arda :)
What are you trying to say?:)
ReplyDeleteI think it speaks more to dealing with the unknown.
ReplyDeleteRight now, Liverpool is a known entity. People seem to understand that we are very much in control of what we are trying to do, so much so that we are not going to overreach for players. This helps us and hurts us at the same time. We have our value for a player and we stick to it and sometimes we lose the player as a result.
Spurs on the other hand seem to be an unknown entity. They seemingly try to poach everyone we are after, and because of the potential Bale signing they are much more dangerous to spend freely.
That we'll probably sign both and win the league :-)
ReplyDeleteOr they are showing Bale he's at the right club by addi quality players to their team to make it better. You can't buy a Porsche for a tenner. That doesn't mean you should spend a hundred Thousand on a Fiat Punto either but it does mean that if you want a Porsche, you have to pay the price.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're being positive ;)
ReplyDeleteThey will sell bale to balance the books.... They don't want to sell now because they know if they get all that money if people will ask for to much for players. That's why their keeping it hush hush about :)
ReplyDeleteIt's in my nature. And anyway, there is so much to be positive about :-)
ReplyDeleteInjury history makes him a very risky signing especially for that kind of money. But if we do go after him and get him, hopefully it'll be a non-issue.
ReplyDeletethe d-day tomorrow. i bet we arent gonna be any wiser than we are today. no movement what so ever, with new transfers coming to our way.
ReplyDeleteif Willian and Mkhitaryan are truly our top targets for this window, and we fail to secure both. i think we should get rid of ayre.
Always Mr Positive
ReplyDeleteRondon?????? No thank you
ReplyDeleteFact
ReplyDeleteYou honestly think there's a chance bale will be there come sept 3rd?
ReplyDeletetook us by surprise....he will go to RED DRAGON CARDIFF hahahaaaa.....come on red color as well right????
ReplyDeleteone of the slowest players in the game
ReplyDeletewe need pace of willian or someone ese
I don't think he's as good as Willian despite the fact he has in the past indicated that he wanted to play for us.
ReplyDeleteLet be honest 90% of the people on here has not heard of Coutinho until we were interested in him.
The NAME of a player means nothing it's the ability that counts.
I distinctly see some of the people on here who are posting that slated Coutinho and Sturridge , better to wait until we see WHOEVER we sign and judge them on how they play.
I'm not bothered on the name or profile I care about what they do on the pitch and so should all of us.
Just cus the so-called top four want them doesn't mean they are any good.
Don't get caught up in the media feeding frenzy ...two weeks ago Suarez was Arsenal player.
Journalism has resorted to trawling blogs and fan site for leads.
I know of at least 2 'journalist' that are regular's on your site Jaimie and they've lifted some of your stories I'll you know.
I like Liverpool are doing business at the moment ...in house no vocal ...behind closed doors...reminds me of the old ways of doing things.
You have to respect what work is being done by John Henry,Brendan Rogers and as much as it pains me Ayre, although I don't trust him.
When FSG signing big Andy they just a newbie in transfer window...
ReplyDeleteI believe now owner will count every penny even in the drain..
I think our biz is done...mayb some1 will left at last min (beside luis)
Sign 1 more CB and push agger to that DM role as back up...
ReplyDeleteI would be happy with Turan but a bit like Willian is over priced i hope they find better value marquee signings than either.
ReplyDeleteIf i were FSG i would not offer over 15 million pounds for Willian or Turan.
If this is true, then why don't they hurry up and get the deal done before Spurs use LFC as their scouting team again and gazump us. LFC seem too slow to get deals finalised, once interest is shown. Come on get your finger out.
ReplyDeleteWe have to over pay to get the players we want. No one is worth 30m, but this is football and if you want to sign Willian you will have to pay close to 30m to get him
ReplyDeleteHis goal scoring is not great i have seen him a few times and he has never impressed me as a player who has a market value of 30 million comprende.
ReplyDeleteI guess if you have seen him a few times you are the be all and end all, i have seen him a few times and liked him very much
ReplyDeleteSo you are the be all and end all i suppose coz youve seen him a few times get off your high horse.
ReplyDeleteNot on a high horse, i never said my opinion is more valid than yours. Just pointed out, we need to over pay for players, that is the position we are in. I rate Willian quite high, so if we get him I would be quite happy, money right now is irrelevant
ReplyDeleteNo we dont other clubs are able to scout smart and make wise choices Dortmund are a great example.
ReplyDeleteCoutinho is a fantastic example that u dont always have to spend up to get quality.
Turan is no doubt a talented footballer, his pace is like Carra's (exaggeration). From watching the weekend game, speed, movement and ball control are paramount in the final third. So a 'NO' from me.... If we were to buy a Turk wudn't mind Hamit Altintop as comp for Lucas, he's experience at the highest level with good aggression. He hits a ball with some juice too. Seeing as teams when playing us, narrow the space between the lines, so 35-40 yard away from goal there is a huge space to exploit as team defend from the 18 yard line.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, but with 2 weeks left in the window, we are too late. Now is time to get the players we need in at (almost) any cost. I would suggest that relatively speaking we over paid for Phil (based on the last 2 years he was in Italy/Spain), it's just that he turned into such a good player for us that we think we got a bargain
ReplyDeleteHe is a DM as well if I am not wrong.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It doesn't matter who we sign,if they perform well. For every Michu/Hernandez there is a Schevchenko/Torres.
ReplyDeleteId have to say no to this one. Overpriced and a bit over rated IMO. There are better more reliable players out there for 24mil.
ReplyDeleteOn the other side i think the 30mil for Willian could be money well spent. He is a class class act who could put us in top 4 along with the other quality signings we've.made. I just hope we dont miss out on him for the sake of another 6mil we wont pay.
This is the dumbest comment I've seen here. If if if. If the stoke keeper was a god that game it would have been 7-0, if kolo toure, coutinho, henderson, and aspas all wouldn't have hit the woodwork. Stoke had two chances all game. One of them was a pentalty. If you want to play the 'if' game,Liverpool was in the pole position. 100% deserved the victory and we played a fine game
ReplyDeleteIf we miss out on Willian, wud want someone like Pedro (Barca). He so underrated and with the addition of Neymar he maybe surplus. Test the waters with 15-17m bid.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a fan and after watching this compilation of his 'great' moments on the field we may as well get Barnesy out of retirement. Too slow........way to slow. BR wants pace in the wide areas, this guy would find himself competing for the highly competitive no.10 position soon enough once premiership fullbacks empty him from their pockets.
ReplyDeleteif AVB has already stated that spurs have NOT put a bid in for willian then where does this leave your article? Is the liverpool kop name at the top just for show or is this 'which seems likely' a really pi$$ poor anti LFC website
ReplyDeleteYeah i agree Pedro is a top footballer, and probably would be wotlrth throwing in a bid to see what happens. I understand what you mean about Neymar, but i think the problem would be convincing him to leave Barca. He's been there 10 years, and despite the arrival of Neymar i dont see him being entirely surplus. But would definately be a welcome addition.
ReplyDeleteTop post. Great points. Especially around the media fiction that's printed these days. Just look at the Daily Mail today "quoting" Toure, Suarez can do anything and we will forgive, horsesh*t.
ReplyDeleteSome of these journos need to take a long hard look at themselves.
Who would go to the trouble of creating a website to 'unsupport' a team?
ReplyDeleteToo much time on your hands Jamie.
Gerrard more than capable at his age to cover CDM
ReplyDeleteINJURY PRONE - NO THANKS
ReplyDeleteThanks I used to post more regular on here but Jaimie hates me ....;-)
ReplyDeleteNow that is an amazing idea. Pedro is perfect! Like you said "test the waters" definitely worthy of a punt if willian is yet again hijacked by spuds. I would try and get jese Rodriguez from real b team. He has amazing potential. But I wouldn't mind if we added them next summer to build on what we have already. CL qualification is a must this season.
ReplyDeleteCissohko signing his contract....
ReplyDeleteThank god his teeth didnt let him down this time!!!
ReplyDeleteside note; NICE SMILE
Where did you get that one from? There's nothing on the official site, and I haven't seen anything confirming the transfer anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteHe is not the kind of player we would be willing to pay such an asking price for.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Jaimie hates everyone, including himself?
ReplyDeleteSo it is Ayre's fault that we can't offer CL football.
ReplyDeleteTwitter :):) should be on main site in a bit
ReplyDeleteHaha I'm sure our doctors examined him properly!
ReplyDeleteOh thought you were the Anfield tea lady..
ReplyDeleteIf my aunty had balls she'd be my uncle
ReplyDeleteI see. Don't use that site personally, but at times I can see the appeal.
ReplyDeleteSame I only use it for football :)
ReplyDeleteOh I may be... ;)
ReplyDeleteAs BR has point out 'The Anfield Tea Lady' has a major role in us getting in the Champs League positions, so don't take her for granted!!!
ReplyDelete(I bet she's a tender lover)
Turan is a sick note every season he has played. So for that reason a definite no.
ReplyDeleteIf we get Willian that would be fine, but my preference would be for our plan B, which is Leandro Damiao, I think the Stoke game showed what we lack, GOALS, and I dont know if Willian is the answer, but I believe Damiao is.
she Does
ReplyDeleteLeandro damaio ,.....some one who can close his eyes and still know where the goal post is . Then willian ...we could be 3rd.
ReplyDeleteWe deserved the victory for sure but so we did most of the games we lost last year ,
ReplyDeleteAnd everyone like you come on and said if the keeper from the other team didn't have blinder.
Come on We don't put teams away fact is if Our keeper doesn't save the penalty most of us would of said same story.
i would very much like to spit on your face every time you and your fellow pretend "journalists" write bullshit articles like this. do you know what you're doing? YOU ARE SPAMMING THE FUCKING WEB WITH BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBut the penalty was saved and we scored a goal so we won. So what is your point
ReplyDeleteWhy should he be a back up - why cant we be just going for him.
ReplyDeleteIMO he is just the type of player BR normally goes for.
It still isn't.
ReplyDelete65 appearances over the last 2 seasons and you call him a sick note. I have to disagree.
ReplyDeleteReports coming out of Russia that Willian is going to sign for Spurs.
"Russian journalist Nobel Arustamyan reports this Tuesday morning that Tottenham have beaten Liverpool to the signing of Brazilian midfielder Willian.
Arustamyan is considered a reliable source on account of the fact he is the deputy editor in chief of Radio Sport in Russia, a commentator on Russia’s ‘NTV Plus and a regular host on Anzhi’s radio channel.
Tottenham have reportedly reached agreement with Anzhi for Willian and the probability of a transfer is “now very high,” according to Arustamyan."
http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/russian-reports-spurs-have-beaten-liverpool-to-willian-signing-medical-imminent/?
... and the 65 appearances was just in the league. 86 in total over 2 seasons with 10 goals and 20 assists
ReplyDeleteNot really sure what all the fuss is about. We have fantastic young talents in these positions whose development would only be stifled should we make those purchases. Not sure what the value addition would be with willan or turban for raheem and Jordan. Certainly wont equate to £20m+ IMO
ReplyDeleteI don't know when it will come on, Liverpool echo said today some time :)
ReplyDeleteWillian looks like a much better player than Turan tbh - but we need more first team players in, and we could do a lot worse than the Turk...
ReplyDeleteThis is an internet forum so I assume a large number of participants will have played Football Manager/Championship Manager to some level over the last decade or so.
ReplyDeleteAnd most that have would've been well aware of the name of Coutinho... ;)
Suarez can do anything and he will be forgiven. He'll only be booed consistently once he confirms his transfer elsewhere. That's the reality of the situation.
ReplyDeleteIt is partly Ayre's fault, yes.
ReplyDeleteAnd Tottenham can't offer CL football either anyway.
Does anyone know if Willian has signed for Spurs or not?
ReplyDeleteThat may be the case, but that wasnt my point. I was referring to the bullsh*t that passes for journalism these days. Toure said "Suarez can do anything" in relation to his ability on the pitch.
ReplyDeleteThe Mail ran the headline:
Toure: "Suarez can do anything" and we'll forgive him.
Exact headline including where the quotation marks are placed. So my point was simply that journos need to look at themselves these days is all.
Your prob dead right anout Suarez though.
WOW, I have just read that Willian signing for Spurs after medical, well f@&k me sideways are we just a joke? is that how the owners what to be seen?
ReplyDeleteThis whole we do business behind closed doors is a joke other clubs find out who your after and how much your willing to pay YOU CAN'T HIND ANYMORE IT'S CALLED THE FUTURE, the only one it serves is the owners because we as the fans are not told what the real bids are or what they are being offered.
If this is not true why is LFC website not saying so, i mean any news on their about transfers are from the press, is that so the club can break the bad news or prepare the fans for disappointment.
Here we have someone with all the skill of a super star with speed and strong enough for EPL and he actually was considering us at one stage and we just let Spurs take him away WHAT A JOKE we have become, someone will tell me, oh he wants CL or they gave more than us, please and we need to wake up and join the real world sometimes when your behind this far you actually have to get one or two players that are gonna cost you some real money. If this is not true than i will apologise and admit i jumped the gun.
Ah i think you need to wake up a bit there man.
ReplyDeleteAll that cash Spurs are handin over has Gareth Bales face printed on the front of it...
They have been spending like this for years. They actually outbid us for Bale too. Their transfer policy is why they went from being top 8 to top 5 and also why we will be struggling once again this season.
ReplyDeleteYeah they paid about 7mil for bale and out bid us. Abd they have spent more money than most of the top10 excluding city/chelsea.
ReplyDeleteBut i fail to remember a summer where they spent close to 100mil? Let alone multiple summers.
Bale is gone.
Send IAN AYRE to negotiate the transfer - that will ensure 100 per cent he goes to Arsenal
ReplyDeleteBe serious - this guy is INJURY PRONE - AND OLD
ReplyDeleteEven if that will be the case, they have brought and will bring in within the next week, enough quality to more than compensate for that loss. Selling Bale is not such a bad thing imo especially if the quoted figure of 90 million is true. Spurs were pretty much a one man team last year and it is great that Bale scored more than 20 from midfield but not if it happens at the expense of the rest of the team, which is what happened. With players like Willian, Soldado, Paulinho, Chadli and Lamela coming in, they will more than make up for Bale's goals between them.
ReplyDelete£20m for an old ,slow, ok player?
ReplyDeleteLast season : 5 goals 6 assists. Injured. played 32 games total
We got more from DOWNING 5 goals 8 assists.
£20m my arse. Buy Papa and Lamela for £35m or Alderwerield and Diamiao for £30m
ayre negotiates our transfers, yes its mostly Ayres fault we cant seem to close one, and im not speaking only about HK and willian. it seems we are taking our sweet time closing any deals now.
ReplyDeleteI really have problems following your logic. I don't believe for one second that Ayre sets the maximum fee we are going to pay for a player. I believe that our transfer committee decides how much we should pay for a player. We seem to have learnt a lesson or two from the Comolli/Dalglish transfers.
ReplyDeleteHow do you think these deals are done? We pick our target, travel there with a suitcase full of money and that's it?
Why always pick the deals that don't happen when judging Ayre? Why not have a look at the deals that went through? Do you simply need a scapegoat for us not signing enough quality players? I blame the entire hierarchy for that, from top (owners) to bottom (manager).
i have utmost confidence in our management and owners atm but i dont think ian ayre is right man to negotiate deals for a club of liverpool stature. simple as that. we have signed quality players with low fees, which i am very glad of. but we dont seem to have pulling power to sign any of higher status players, and i rather blame it on Ian Ayre who conducts the negotiations, than admit that Liverpool as a club doesnt have that edge anymore to land top players. simple as that.
ReplyDeleteperhaps im in denial, but i want to think its ayres fault.
They can offer European football plus living in London, which, to the stranger, is a more interesting proposition than Liverpool. Spurs finished just outside CL qualification. They can argue that their project is heading in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteYou trump that argument with money (not saying that FSG are the type these days) ;)
ReplyDeleteAfter all, the lad has been playing in Ukraine/Russia. A Brazilian in Russia. With all due respect to football over there, you go over there for the money as a player (for yourself and/or third party).
You may go to Russia for the money, but if a club from the Prem comes calling other factors count, too.
ReplyDeleteWe've been trying hard to get our wage-bill down from CL level to non-CL level and I think this is a good thing. I don't want us to become the next Leeds.
Anyway, I am not happy with our transfer activity. Our squad is thinner than this time last year and there is no great step forward concerning our quality of playing staff.
Oh don't get me wrong, I don't see FSG doing the 'oh don't worry, we'll offer you more money to make up for it' approach. Understandable as to why, as you have somewhat said already. But I just don't put it past these players that go to Russia for the money, to apply the same possible motivation heavily elsewhere. Your right the other factors have more weight in the more fashionable/competitive leagues but in that case, just have to throw even more money! ;)
ReplyDeleteAs to our transfer activity, your preaching to the already converted dude :)
Yes, we don't seem to have the pulling power to get the bigger names on board. Hardly Ayre's fault.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that our transfer committee decides on our targets and the price we are willing to pay. We should fire Ayre, if he goes beyond what the committee has agreed on.
So, if I get you right, we might be better off without those players?
ReplyDeleteSorry but which players, the players that go for the money?
ReplyDeleteI don't mind what their motivation is, as long as they put the performances on the pitch and don't jeopardize the team & club. As a supporter, that is all I ask for these days.
In fact, to an extent at least, I'd be impressed even, if they came out with said motivation publicly, instead of hiding behind a facade of declaring love for the club, etc. But chances of that happening are slim.
Yes, them. I obviously didn't get you right then.
ReplyDelete
