Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Marseille attacker Andre Ayew, who is also wanted by Everton, Newcastle and, inevitably, Tottenham Hotspur (!).
According to a report in French newspaper L'Equipe today:
* Liverpool, Everton and (inevitably) Tottenham are monitoring Ayew.
* Marseille are willing to let him leave, but only for €12m.
When quizzed about his future in March, 23-year-old Ayew revealed a preference for Liverpool, and urged Premier League clubs to get in touch with Labrune about a possible transfer. He told French TV programme Telefoot:
"It [The Premier league] is a league I always think of. I am Ghanaian and an English speaker, and I have a strong preference for England.
"As for Liverpool - I have followed them since I was young. I am not seeking to leave but if interested clubs have the number of [Marseille] president [Vincent] Labrune..."
In April, Ayew made similar remarks when asked about his future. He told reporters:
"The club have made it clear if they receive a good offer [for me] they will listen to that, but I will not go just to please the club, I will go to a club that wants to win trophies"
Ayew has been linked with a move to Anfield on several occasions over the last couple of years, and in June 2011, the Liverpool Echo reported that Kenny Dalglish wanted to sign the striker.
As is usually the case, the stumbling block could be the transfer fee: Ayew recently signed a one year contract extension until 2015 with a release clause of €18 million. There's no way the Ghanaian would go for anywhere near that amount though (IMO). Indeed, if QPR only paid £8m for the far more prolific Loic Remy, Ayew would surely be available for much less than that.
Ayew's versatility probably makes him an appealing option for Brendan Rodgers. He can play as a winger, or a striker, and with Liverpool needing cover in both position, there's an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Is he prolific enough, though? Stats for the last few years:
* 2010-11: 13 goals/3 assists in 51 appearances.
* 2011-12: 16 goals/4 assists in 39 apps.
* 2012-13: 13 goals/5 assists in 45 apps.
* Three year total: 42 goals/12 assists in 142 apps.
* Goal/Assist every 2.6 games
Another possible option?

completely misleading headline
ReplyDeleteGood player, Spurs don't need the lad so you're all clear for him.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that there will be quite a few long faces come September 3. Well that and of course Rodgers saying how they tried but they couldn't do anything about being total failures.
ReplyDeleteAnother Robbie Keane them?! What is wrong with you people?!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVictor Moses is more likely.
ReplyDeleteJuan mata 20 million
ReplyDeleteIf only
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen ANYTHING linking Spurs with this Player.. Maybe Liverpool fans have a paranoia about Spurs.. Also the whole Willian thing made me laugh as Spurs were interested in the player over a yr ago.. Liverpool announce they want him and they think they had a god given right b/c they were the first???.. AVB admitted he looked at Willian while he was at Chelsea.. and who got him? Chelsea... as a Spurs fan i was disappointed, but I'm not crying over it, the world is full of great players and one team cannot own them all.. the fact that the top 8 teams in the Premier League are after the same great players points to the fact that all of those teams are very strong and all have a shout at them.. but the players make their own minds up on where they go... $$$, Champs. League, Europa, boyhood teams...at the end of the day, he had a choice and he chose Chelsea. end of.. so Please, Liverpool fans, stop whining about you being after a player and someone else is too.. you are not special, it happens to every club.
ReplyDeleteNot convinced by this. This is option no.5 now? Feels like if were serious about spending money our sights would be set a little higher.
ReplyDeleteI hope Rodgers doesnt approve that much for what seems to me to be a bit of a panic buy. I think he's progressed from those mistakes
Have to say agree 100%
ReplyDeleteIf them stats are from the left wing there not that bad
ReplyDeleteBest possible result today: MU 0 - Chelski 0. Enjoy this...and let's get another CD soon.
ReplyDeleteAgree the obvious points you make but we are special
ReplyDeleteit wont happen...i think the only business we do will be a possible loan signing ...what is this guy 9th choice for rogers...if thats the case id sooner not bother there is no way fsg will sanction this maybe if they half the figure we will be in
ReplyDeleteA year ago, ten minutes ago, makes no difference to me if i'm honest. The reason i was annoyed is because we are LFC, i take pride in my club. I am arrogant about my club because my club is one of the biggest in the country. That is why i whine about it. I've seen my club do special things throughout my life and i want that back. So you can go on about how petulant i am, but i will always be petulant about LFC because i know what it feels like to see your team dominate Europe. So yes i may seem desperate and immature, but to me my club is special and my concern is not with you or the other 19 clubs in the league.
ReplyDeleteI think we have missed a trick in Andre Schürrle. Just watched Chelsea against Man U. A left winger, young, pacy, eye for goal. And he has worked his socks off!! Exactly what Brendan is looking for..someone to protect Jose Enrique and try get the ball back. Always looking to link up with Oscar and hazard. I could see him doing the same with coutinho an sturridge. 18 million too which is well in our reach. We need someone like him!!
ReplyDeleteyou and razor certainly sound a bit special
ReplyDeleteLol, Very:). John has a point. What's it come too? It is paranoia listening to some people. The difference is, Liverpool won't spend the money, Spurs will do, if thats with the Bale money, so what. They go for top players and are willing to match valuations. Fair shout to them. I wish our owners would do that and deliver a top player. But I doubt that very much.
ReplyDeleteI admire spurs' ambition. Id like Liverpool to top off the good start to the season, by signing 2 top players, or even just one, before the Utd game ideally. But I can't see that happening this window, Imo.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing is m8 i dont think too many Liverpool fans expected Willian to come me being one of them.
ReplyDeleteHe was over priced and am happy to pass on him and many share that sentiment so cut it with the whining about missing players we are trying to shop smart and know this is all part and parcel.
Am a Ghanaian .I know this guy. I have watched most of his games for club and country.Sterling is better than him. He is no game changer .we would sign another Allen.end of story.please Jamie lets not mention him again. 20 mill plus di maria then lets get and sakho for 12 mill.....end of story.
ReplyDelete20mill plus dI Maria for Suarez.
ReplyDeleteA lot of lfc fans ain't arsed about not gettin Willian, especially at the price quoted
ReplyDeleteAdam Ljajic was left out of Fiorentina's squad tonight. Apparently off to Roma to replace Spurs bound Eric Lamela. Gutted but going to bed dreaming Liverpool have had a bid accepted for him :-) Another realistic target Sakho is apparently off to AC Milan but again dreaming we have had a bid accepted. I think that's the best we can do at the moment and that is DREAM!!!
ReplyDeleteI can see the club selling Suarez to RM and that will be the end of it, so far the owners really have paid out nothing this season for players all the money they have spent has been recouped from the sale/loan of players.
ReplyDeleteIt is going to be said again cause if BR is content with the players he has, then he has fooled me as to the type of manager i thought he would be, there is no time to play games in this window, tell the owners to stop screwing around and get in the players you want or just tell the fans on the website that this is it.
If anyone says that LFC don't do business like that we do it behind closed doors, well wake up the only ones the club don't want to know what's happening about their business, IS YOU THE FANS because if you approach a club for a player then i can tell you that everyone in the press will find out not to mention with todays social media (Twitter, Facebook) every man and his dog knows. Bottom line the supporters are always the last to find out, players will talk, agents, managers families it will get out.
Did you read Rodgers comments about the league cup. I really hope he was kidding about playing a strong team. Agger's just been injured we can't risk Touré, Sturridge, Gerrard, Coutinho or even Lucas since no one bothered to sign a DM this summer so I hope none of them will even make the bench. The FA cup fine but who gives a flying f about the league cup? I'd be happy with Jones; Wisdom Skrtel Kelly Cissokho; Allen Henderson; Sterling Aspas Ibe; Borini. And this is where it becomes obvious that we really needed new blood in midfield.If Gerrard and Lucas are ever out at the same time, which could very well happen, we're seriously up the creek.
ReplyDeleteTwo matches running.Are Chelsea allowed to play with their hands as well as their feet now, don't upset the " special one "
ReplyDeleteWell, being a Liverpool fan in this age is not very wonderful. No Champions League football, no frequent trophies, and watch others win the league title from the middle of the table is absolutely not cheerful. When a new season starts, our hopes are obvious to be high. We’ll dream about winning the title at the start, top four hopes will be alive till January, and finally our goal goes down to “finish above Everton!!!”. This is what Liverpool is going through these days. So, what about the fans?
ReplyDeleteLet me share some of my experiences as a Liverpool fan. Every time Liverpool loses, we become a matter of joke. I don’t know what some arrogant fans of other clubs think about us and why they make fun of us, but whatever they say, we’ve to stay quiet without protesting because talking about history all the time does not make sense. I personally never talk about history but when someone asks, that’s the moment of pride for me and probably for every Liverpool fan. I spend all the week waiting for the match day of Liverpool. Excitements reach to the peak and what I get by the end of the match is disappointment most of the times. And again the wait for another match begins… I simply love to watch them play. No any stuff can ever get my time when there’s a Liverpool match and I have the access to watch it.
To be honest, it has not even been 4 years since I first started supporting Liverpool, but what Liverpool mean to me in this date is what I actually feel special about being a Liverpool fan. I feel like I have a face tag denoting myself as a Liverpool fan. Saying Liverpool will win the league this season and turning back and crying is the story of every Liverpool fans these days. I bet every Liverpool fan is going to cry the day Gerrard retires, but what we all hope is to see him kissing the premier league trophy at least once before he retires.
Talking about this season, we’ve got a reason to decorate our face with an early season smile. Two wins in 2 games with 2 clean sheets is the best start I got to experience as a Liverpool fan. With wonderful start of the season, we fans have already started hoping for the best of Liverpool FC but till time decides what we achieve, all we’ve to do is wait, wait, and wait.

Oh stop it!
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. IMO no one who's started the league games so far should start in the cup game. Need everyone fresh for United and it's only fair the squad players get a run out. And it is Notts County who haven't won a league game so far. Henderson will probably have to play both games unless an academy centre mid plays and like you I don't wanna see any first team players.
ReplyDeleteLFC must avoid from using unconsistent players like Downing, Carroll, Lucas, Henderson and Skrtel.They only just passenger players who want high salary but can give a little contribution or nothing.To dangerous only depend to all this players.Thank you very much because LFC already ship out Downing and Carroll this season.Borini, Skrtel, Henderson and Lucas will give trouble soon because sometimes make unconsistent performance.LFC will regret if still keep them all.Much better ship out before transfer window nearly closed.They all will effect all performance of team. LFC still can get more talented players, genius, briliant and fighters.Don't tell me F.Borini is great player if you rate his skill....Drible, corner kick, tackle, free kick, and what else? I cannot see the best yet.The good players we can see with only 2 or 3 of games, but F.Borini still never show up the best over than 13 apearence.He is so lucky because can score only 2 goal with a simple movement.How about assist and try ball? Not impessive and dissapointed for all of us.Just sell him and get more much2 better players like Leandro Damio or Christian Eriksen.Siem De Jong? Why not......This early summer LFC are wasting longer times about entertainment Luis Suarez transfer saga.The owner are too stingy about draw big budget to get marquee signing.John Henry can able give moral support but not to money support.1 by1 target players are miss out to anothers clubs.Very sick to look situation while the enemy clubs can hijack our target players.Can you feel it? Big mistake to let same players to repeat same mistake.Finaly become struggle life again.
ReplyDeletemingolet, kelly, wisdom, toure, cissokho, allen, lucas, henderson, ibe, sterling, borini. If that team cant beat Notts County with all due respect to them then the squad isn't good enough for a challenge to finish 4th.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, I forgot we aren't allowed to be disappointed with a negative net spend!
ReplyDeleteLike I said to me the first team isn't better than last years, that shows me there is 0 ambition. If we end the summer without signing 2 players that would have a positive effect on the first team then i will be very upset and disappointed.
Imagine if we had paid 35m but the player had a better impact than PC, would it matter that we over paid?
Torres sakho Erikson that's it wont cost much
ReplyDeleteThat team would win. I'd take out Lucas though, no way I'd risk him. Throw in Alberto and Assaidi and I guess Henderson has to play because he never seems to get injured. Also BR ruled Kelly out which was a bit surprising, maybe Flanagan can come in. If the full team plays and then we start burning out and Carrick runs the show against us I'll be annoyed...
ReplyDeletea good player he wud be a good addition for the team
ReplyDeleteyou are just being pathetic to say sterling is better he came second behind thomas muller in world cup young player he won under 20 with ghana and has been excellent anytime he has played for Ghana and Marseille so stop being bitter and yes I'm Ghanaian too
ReplyDeleteHow many years since he won the under 20 with Ghana..please! ...look how magnificent borini is for the Italian under 21 ..do ur research before u write.did u watch the last African cup of nations .see how terrible he was .yes I would love him as my country man to wear the "red" .but am REAL.
ReplyDeleteWould like to see Gokan Inler from Napoli and Benega from Valencia brought in.. we need a better central midfield if we are to play this type of football
ReplyDeleteI like Sturidge and Suarez..... i still would like to bring a strong fast goal poacher in ........Jackson Martinez and Bentike are good... or a nasty ill tempered striker like mirko vucinic
How are AS Roma agreeing a £10million deal for ljajic and were not in the race?? That is an absolute steal from a highly talented, versatile, young left winger. Came close to moving to the mancs couple years ago. He looks an absolute gem every time I've watched him. FSG have done an arsenal on us. We have been fooled with the early signings. Squad is thin as f#%*.
