Liverpool-bound? - Juan Mata transfer rumours dismissed by Jose Mourinho

Dubious, opportunist made-up reports today claim that Liverpool have made a loan offer for Chelsea attacker Juan Mata. Well, if you believe that, you'll believe anything.

According to TalkSport today:

"Chelsea have rebuffed an approach from Liverpool to take Juan Mata on loan.

"TalkSPORT can reveal there has been no inquiry from [Arsenal] for the World Cup winner and the only Premier League club to make a move is Liverpool"

I don't believe this for a second, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if it is totally made-up.

Brendan Rodgers is not stupid - why would he make a loan enquiry for a player that LFC have absolutely no chance of acquiring? Additionally, in terms of salary/loan fee, Mata - who cost Chelsea €27m - would almost certainly be prohibitively expensive for LFC, and the chances of Chelsea letting their two-time player of the year go out on loan is practically non-existent.

When asked about Mata's future, Mourinho angrily dismissed the notion that the Spaniard is available, and accused the press of lying about the story. He told reporters:

"The stories that are coming out are nonsense stories. He [Mata] is very important for me and very important for Chelsea. There's no chance. Juan goes nowhere."

Chelsea also posted the denial on its official Twitter account.

This 'rumour' is almost as bad as the blatantly false Torres/Suarez swap story currently being peddled by SportsDirectNews, which manufactures fake transfer rumours on an hourly basis.

In May, the site - owned by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley - had to issue a public apology for posting a fake transfer rumour about Wayne Rooney. As reported by The Guardian:

"SportsDirect News wishes to express its sincere apologies to Wayne Rooney and Triple Sports and Entertainment Group for publishing the article 'Newcastle in shock Rooney bid', which was formulated and published without authority, merit and is untrue."

Yes, I know some transfer rumours are dubious, but many have some kind of verifiable foundation (i.e. comments from Agents/players/CEOs/managers etc).

There's a marked difference between those type of rumours, and shameless, totally baseless unapologetic fabrications, such as the laughable Suarez/Torres swap story.

  2. So Assaidi is off to Stoke for the season, that and Downing gone we REALLY need to sign at least one winger and time really isn't on our side. FSG better get their arse in gear sharpish.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Heard Ronaldo's not happy with the Bale signing, make a move?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Laughable!

  5. what about suarez, ronaldo swap??

coz their paper is out of topic.
to sabotage all the big team during transfer window is the trend to excite reader

  7. I think the best thing to do is to draw attention to such lies... that'll teach 'em

    ReplyDelete
  8. I wouldn't put talksport in the same boat as sportdirect news. Whether people think its going to happen or not I fully believe that BR did inquire about Mata. Think about it, he wont get many games as jose is not a fan, BR is close to jose, Chelsea wouldn't mind making LFC stronger if they feel we can take points off other top teams, just say he cant play against Chelsea. It may sound stupid now but BR wants to win the league and thinks no player is out of our reach. Like every club in the top 6. I think this story is very true, what is a phone call between friends?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I know sportsdirectnews they are useless! Jose also is the same person who said managers lie about their team tranfers. Mata cost the same amount we were going to pay for Willian per media reports. I don't think Chelsea would send him to us in the other hand they have 7 players who plays the same position and its a World Cup season.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Moses maybe but couldnt see Mata being sold or loaned it would be madness.

    ReplyDelete
  11. With the way Chelsea have started their season and shaped their squad, I could understand why clubs think Mata may be available tbf, but not why he would be available for loan.

Nor could I understand why any prospective buyer would decide to make a loan offer for him. If a club did indeed think Mata was on the market, as a proven commodity, surely clubs would be eager to snap him up for good (at a below market value price also!) before Chelsea realise the folly of their ways...

I don't understand the problem with making an offer for Mata 25 mill is still 25 mill it would cover their purchase of Willian and he has more competition now at Chelsea any way what could it hurt make an offer FSG and prove to us fans you are actually serious about what we are hearing (marquee signing) or are you just giving us hope but knowing full well that there is no one else coming in from here on out.
I don't trust the owners i think we are all being taken for a ride even BR that's why we do business behind closed doors (not in the past) cause if the fans really new what actually was happening then there would be an uproar.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If Rodgers is ambitious he would make an inquiry , why not?
we signed sahin from real madrid

    ReplyDelete
  14. but it is false ,Rodgers does not want a LEFT FOOTED attacker
he wants a right footed one because we already have sturridge and aspas
    and Rodgers likes variation

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't thin it is an urgent need , raheem sterling and jordan Henderson can both play thee and when hendo plays Liverpool win

    ReplyDelete
  16. more like 30 mils m8

    ReplyDelete
  17. the extent of ambition of FSG means we could end up with moses certainly not mata.

    ReplyDelete
  18. at least be agressive on the moses loan deal with an option to buy like cissokho

    ReplyDelete
  19. A club with no financial restrictions loaning a proven, top class player to a potential rival would also be madness.

Paying £30m to add another attacking midfielder to a squad already stocked with Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Schurlle(sp?) et al is also madness though.

A quality players falling out of favour and being sold to just cut the losses does make sense. It just remains unnecessary for a club like Chelsea though...

    ReplyDelete
  20. With so many sold, traded, or injured. At this pace there has just got to 2 signings, no? Chelsea not a bad place to shop considering they're a little bloated. Mata on Loan - would be nice, just not going to happen.
And Sports Direct News is garbage, they just posted an article stating that Suarez will stay so that he can break back into the starting 11 for Uruguay, and Usurp Cavani's place - he's never not started. They could at least do a little research make it appear credible.
Only 6 more days and we can stop burning our neurons with transfer rumours!

    ReplyDelete
  21. After signing Sahin from RM, I think there are (ultra low)chances that Mata might be signed on a loan basis. I doubt it though, would be pleased if we sign Moses at least and anything over that would be a treat (IMO).

    ReplyDelete
  22. We actually don't have any wingers. Only players who 'çan' play wide.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Got rid of another piece of dead wood today. Apart from the first team(Not counting suarez)the quality looks like its lacking. 3 talented younger players + average players fill the bench. Hope there isn't any injuries. The squad isn't strong enough to cope as it stands. The good start could be ruined by the inability to strengthen the team.

    ReplyDelete
  24. we need 2 proven wingers, problem is, there aren't many left in the market. I would sacrifice on striker if Suarez stays but winger and a CD is a MUST

    ReplyDelete
  25. name one winger barca have had in the last 6 years , affelly and he barley plays, in ticki tacka
you play strikers sturridge ,suarez ,sterling and aspas can all play wide and coutinho, alberto and Henderson can play wide if needs be

    ReplyDelete
  26. swap Suarez for moses and mata .......

    ReplyDelete
  27. there are no wingers in a ticki tacka
its either forwards like suarez, sturridge and aspas
or midfielders like alberto ,coutinhoi and hendo.
wingers are outdated , barca don't have wingers
infact costa, mkhitaryan and willian are not wingers

    ReplyDelete
  28. so you honestly believe aspas who produced one of the poorest performances ever against villa can play regularly and make similar impact to suarez ?
and why would Rodgers have 3left footers in attack , is it a coincidence that willian ,mkhitaryan and costa are right footed you need variation up front otherwise it is predictable

    ReplyDelete
  29. if we get rid of suarez we need an adequate replacement such as Muriel or damiao
    aspas and moses ? ,
mata will never come to lfc anyway , ehy would you leave a team that has recently won everything apart from the league for a team that has seriously underperformed

    ReplyDelete
  30. why would mata leave one of the strongest clubs in Europe for the 6th , no 7th place and finishes behind wait for it everton a team which operates on shoestrings ,
mata is way too big for Liverpool, he will join Tottenham or man u in a swap deal for utd and he could always be flogged abroad.
Liverpool are the last team on matas mind .
and the only way you can see him in a lfc shirt is in fifa

    ReplyDelete
  31. where did u come out from.... stuarezinho go home your drunk

    ReplyDelete
  32. Where the hell did @gilstrap mention Aspas? He said Mata & Moses, read before you post mate. Also, I don't think there's much emphasis on the right footed or left footed according to me, you might wanna shed some light on that subject?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Starting sturridge is madness. He gets injured we're proper fucked

    ReplyDelete
  34. I can't believe Sturridge is playing. We have a match against United coming up, BR and Sturridge have said themselves that he's not completely fit yet and he starts in a meaningless match against flippin Notts County...I think their brains went on sale with our squad this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  35. If we cant beat notts county with borini up front, we should be in the SPL....

    ReplyDelete
  36. He's learning for his mistakes and now he's going to make the mistake of playing his PL XI to play and get injured, which he'll make sure he learns and next time does something else with some other club because if we don't qualify for CL this season, he might find it difficult to be here.

    ReplyDelete
  37. aly cissokho injured COME ON MAN

    ReplyDelete
  38. I thought he was expected to be stronger than the other defenders.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Getting him on a loan doesn't seem so bad now.

    ReplyDelete
  40. had high hopes for him sigh

    ReplyDelete
  41. It is a bummer, he should be back soon.

    ReplyDelete
  42. another cardboard tank....and fans want papa no thank you

    ReplyDelete
  43. massive vote of no confidence in borini if he cant get on against these adios im afraid whats the point of him

    ReplyDelete
  44. crazy decision just goes to show what a waste of time borini is ...if he cant cut it get rid and get someone else

    ReplyDelete
  45. perhaps he doesnt want to play for a club funded by russian mob money

    ReplyDelete
  46. at this moment we need bodies

    ReplyDelete
  47. wow. 2-0 up to 2-2.

    ReplyDelete
  48. notts county deserve that .......the mandatory second half switch off ....we look very lightweight defensibly tonight

    ReplyDelete
  49. Exactly, surely a minimum benchmark for a prem squad should be if you're not good enough to play against Notts Co then you shouldnt be in it.
I know Sturridge missed a lot of pre season and prob needs pitch time, but putting him in against league 1opposition in a knockout match is a major throw of the dice.

    ReplyDelete
  50. lightweight tonight? i thought we looked so through the last year

    ReplyDelete
  51. We were woeful in that second half... Complete joke considering what's ahead of us on Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  52. so pedro and sanchez aren´t wingers`?

    ReplyDelete
  53. liverpool4life5659:42 pm, August 27, 2013

Should of played second side, no one bothers about Capital one cup anyway, 3 players got injured course of it,

    ReplyDelete
  54. Wisdom is growing into a confirmed liability... His positioning is never ever correct

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't care about this cup competition. But to surrender a 2-0 lead with a strong team against Notts County is inexcusable!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I've only watched 15 minutes, and already Glenn Johnson is pissing me off!

    ReplyDelete
  57. the 2 wins we've had so far are basically just covering up that we need to spend and spend now! I've being saying against better teams we will get punished with second half performance like we have had and tonight has just backed that fact up!

    ReplyDelete
  58. most of the team is our second side....we have 11 or 12 decent players the rest are average no matter what people post on here

    ReplyDelete
  59. Just try 90....

    ReplyDelete
  60. not good enough and some fans say he's good back up well we are lucky aren't we :-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. like ive posted top class forward will lead wisdom and kelly a merry dance at cb but thts what we have along with skirts if agger and kolo get injured

    ReplyDelete
  62. hes pissed me off to night i wish hed just pass the f*cking ball at times

    ReplyDelete
  63. embarrassing we've been lucky in the first to games to come away with 6 points. I know as we are all pissed off whilst it's 2-2 it doesn't hide the fact we need strength not just strength in depth.

    ReplyDelete
  64. basically lost the ball every time he has tried taking someone on.

    ReplyDelete
  65. maybe we should sign the big guy up front for them ...once again a we cant cope with a big physical player ....he looks head and shoulders the best player out there on both teams second half

    ReplyDelete
  66. all of a sudden the utd game doesnt look that appealing

    ReplyDelete
  67. OMG and now kolo?

    ReplyDelete
  68. we have got away with it first two games but we have been pushed about tonight

    ReplyDelete
  69. fuck the carling cup seriously...

    ReplyDelete
  70. This is getting worse and worse... maybe and only maybe it'll get FSG to cop on and get us in some players... but I'm being optimistic. Too much so.

    ReplyDelete
  71. 7 players before the window closes!

    ReplyDelete
  72. this is probably oldham2.0 with more injuries... were 10 men now...

    ReplyDelete
  73. tbh i was quite worried after the villa game but on a positive note we have done well against them recently so hoping for more of the same :-).

    ReplyDelete
  74. If only....

    ReplyDelete
  75. I guess we won't need many players if we are just going to bother with only one competition....

    ReplyDelete
  76. we wll probably gett 1 or 2 new players maximum 3 non quality players

    ReplyDelete
  77. not without a proven CB

    ReplyDelete
  78. Some players need to get a backbone when teams start having a bit of a spell against us because we start to crumble and then it invites pressure and look what pressure does to us. Still win 3-2 i hope lol

    ReplyDelete
  79. dont bank on it mate .....rogers said hes happy with his squad so i am to...but thats the risk you run when you sign players who have played little or no football for a year ...in the fsg fanasy world of football no one gets injured or suspended

    ReplyDelete
  80. It was Always going to happen. They are stingy and its backfired on them.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm trying to be positive ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  82. We might conjure up a performance in a big game. Its one of those kind of games that we sometimes turn up for, over the years. Urgh, I'm just scraping the barrel now.

    ReplyDelete
  83. we are getting rid of players not getting them in ...ill be surprised if we sign anyone

    ReplyDelete
  84. Now toure injured. Seriously BR, what were you thinking!? WE HAVE A GAME AGAINST MAN UTD ON SUNDAY!

    ReplyDelete
  85. we beat two crap teams by the skin of our teeth and everyones pushing us for Europe...fast forward a week with a couple of players injured we will be lucky to finish top half ...hahahah its like watching a car crash

    ReplyDelete
  86. Phew Get In :-)

    ReplyDelete
  87. were talking about increasing the depth of the team and at the same time were loaning and selling the players that should be used as squad players... unbelievable - we just got rid of shelvey, downing and assaidi - didnt replace them until now...

    ReplyDelete
  88. Is stevie G injured he hasn't got out of 1st all match going forward or tracking back. He needs to lift it and set the example for the next half

    ReplyDelete
  89. replaced with who alberto ...hes been great tonight although ive not seen him touch the ball....kolo looks like hes out for a good stretch cissoko injured coates injured...that leaves us with mr glass daniel agger and skirtal who is coming bachk from injury...what the old saying you pay cheap you pay twice ....

    ReplyDelete
  90. 3 games in and hes knackerd m8 ...the bottom line is we need a defensive midfielder who can get up and down the pitch preferably someone whose 6 foot 3 and built like a brick shit house

    ReplyDelete
  91. Well done Jordan Henderson

    ReplyDelete
  92. this is how you win it, but wouldnt mind loosing it - as long as toure would be fit i dont care ..

    ReplyDelete
  93. Haha loved Hendo's celebration =)

    ReplyDelete
  94. great goal hendo ...from a player we where gonna swap for clint dempsey

    ReplyDelete
  95. forget about kolo hes well out

    ReplyDelete
  96. agreed. It needs to happen quick. At the moment No lucas means we lose the midfield completely.

    ReplyDelete
  97. FSG MUST see we have to spend now!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Wisdom V Van Persie. Its gona be interesting................

    ReplyDelete
  99. ive been posting for months we need a cb and a defensive midfielder...its to late in the day now to get anyone decent in ...plus clubs know we are in a panic for a cb so the price will double that means we wont be buying

    ReplyDelete
  100. don't think i'll bother watching if we go in with Wisdom in the starting XI

    ReplyDelete
  101. I think it's fair to say tonight was a disaster...

    ReplyDelete
  102. Skrtel should start even if he's not fully fit. Wisdom needs to go out on loan and get some much needed experience.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Who else do we have?

    ReplyDelete
  104. you know I'd take Wisdom over Skrtel at the right now. Your only as good as your last game and that makes Skrtel rubbish at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  105. brilliant goal by hendo - reminded me of a young Steven G who was hungry to break forward and score goals :)
whatever the injuries especially the one of Toure) outshines everything... the carling cup is a completely waste of player-fitnesses and their power

    ReplyDelete
  106. go home youre drunk...

    ReplyDelete
  107. If Skrtel is rubbish, that's a helluva lot better than what Wisdom is right now after tonight's game.

    ReplyDelete
  108. We've got 4 days to try and get Kelly or Skrtel fit even though I'm not a great fan of either

    ReplyDelete
  109. we havnt the squad to loan him out...as it stand are 4 cb are agger ( mr glass ) kelly ( mr glass mark 2 ) wisdom in name but not by positional sense and skirtal the softest neo nazi look a like known to man

    ReplyDelete
  110. it also makes wisdom rubbish

    ReplyDelete
  111. The other day, I said we needed 2 players in.

    Simply put, I was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  112. haha Sktrel is the third best defender we have mate. He's hard as nails and is a good defender imo but he is prone to a mistake but so is agger. Don't forget they had a good partnership a few years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  113. hard as nails you jest....andy carroll rag dolled him when we played newcastle i think it was that game which prompted us to buy him

    ReplyDelete
  114. it wasn´t hard to see what we need to be honest, neither was it to predict that some players will get injured anytime soon...

    ReplyDelete
  115. we should we happy if we even get 2 ...

    ReplyDelete
  116. i know i just like being a smug b*stard

    ReplyDelete
  117. There's no chance of Kelly and even if Skrtel is fit he'll be rusty and against united that really is a recipe for another disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  118. agree looking a bit worrying at the back. Looks like i'm the only Skrtel fan on here :-)

    ReplyDelete
  119. Bet Rodgers would love to say we need to strengthen

    ReplyDelete
  120. he was great one season then just went to pot...passing about at the back just doent suit him ...he suits a certain type of defensive formation

    ReplyDelete
  121. i agree ...id play skirtal and give him a good run ...hes the type of player that needs confidence

    ReplyDelete
  122. spot on mate but he can do a job defensively and that's the main purpose of a defender.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Agree but just have to hope that, if fit enough to play, he seizes the opportunity to show he can still be a good player.

    ReplyDelete
  124. i wouldn't say boo to him ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  125. the only positive i can take is sterling looked okay...ibe was awful...johnson and tino wont release the ball quick enough...sturridge did what he does best and scored again ...the defense was awful...hendo looked sharp...gerrard looked jaded...alberto was non existant

    ReplyDelete
  126. the problem is he cant pass it about at the back....inevitably he will get caught with it

    ReplyDelete
  127. I would say Sterling is a winger. He's not a CB that's for sure

    ReplyDelete
  128. with the system we play we are going to get caught with it sometimes it's better to just get rid, let agger do the passing.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Just what i was thinking :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. What do you mean? The milk cup gets us into Europe and that"s where we want to be if we want to attract better players. And come the end of the season when we finish eight because we were without a striker and a decent midfield for six weeks it'll be down to that "wee bit" of common sen...eumm luck we missed and the larger transfer budgets of might Everton, Southampton and Arsenal who haven't bought anyone but still...

    ReplyDelete
  131. in reply to your smug b****** post:
hehe thats what some of the other guys would like to call you here i guess ;)

    ReplyDelete
  132. Yes tonight was a disastrous in terms of the injuries and the performance 2nd half was embarrassing but now is not the time to panic. We are still in a great position in the league and we must go into the match on Sunday believing we can win.
Just because we played badly tonight doesn't mean we'll put in a similar performance on Sun. I saw nothing from Utd last night to be scared of providing we show belief ourselves. Why am I being positive? Mignolet, Sturridge, Coutinho, Gerard, Lucas and Henderson.
But agree longer term prospects for the season depend on getting in

    ReplyDelete
  133. Wisdom isn't a right back though. He looks rubbish out there but has looked reasonably assured in the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Callum The LFC Man11:49 pm, August 27, 2013

Can I start a rumour here that Liverpool are in for Gareth Bale, and because they wouldn't have to pay for his expenses to move abroad, they are getting him very cheap! :p Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  135. Cant really understand Chelsea stocking up on wide players when they need a striker and a central mid or 2.

    ReplyDelete
  136. He is not a finished product and won't be starting too many league games am afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  137. you can bang about barca/tiki taka all you want but we aren't barca and also we don't play tiki taka all the time. The game against aston villa was anything but tiki taka. EPL matches are high tempo games and it is almost impossible to play that passing style and inevitably we have to play long balls every now and then. We need wingers for that. Also, barca don't have any wingers that is exactly why they don't have any permanent player in that position. Villa, Sanchez, are best used as center forward. No wonder Villa left and Sanchez seems to be in the market every summer.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I was being sarcastic :-)

    ReplyDelete
  139. I think Bales off to man utd
