'One day' - Dalglish insists £85m star can match 'Messi & Ronaldo'. Crash and burn...?

Tottenham hotspur star Gareth Bale is expected to move to Real Madrid this summer, and Spurs are reportedly holding out for an £85m transfer fee. Madrid appear to be baulking over the fee, but Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish believes that Bale is worth it, and that he has the potential to become the best player in the world.

Last night, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez expressed reservations about breaking the world transfer record for Bale. He told ESPN:

“€100 million seems a lot to me, a lot for everything. We talk with lots of people and we will see what happens in all our negotiations, with this player [Bale] and with others"

Is Bale worth it? Kenny Dalglish seems to think so, and n his column for The Mirror today, he argued that Spurs should probably take the money and run:

"The value of a player is whatever somebody is willing to pay for him. So you can argue all you want about whether Gareth Bale is worth £85million, but it doesn't matter if Real Madrid stump up the cash. I wouldn't blame Tottenham for taking the money"

£85m would exceed the £80m Madrid paid for Cristiano Ronaldo, a player Dalglish believes Bale may match at some point in the future. He noted:

"I don't think Bale is in the class of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi yet, but he might be one day. Ronaldo is a far better player now than when he left Manchester United, and if Bale makes the move to Spain, there is no reason why the same should not happen to him".

£85m for Bale is grossly overpriced (IMO), and I personally don't feel he's capable of making a Messi-Ronaldo type-impact in La Liga. It's not a matter of ability, but mentality: Ronaldo and Messi are supremely confident, and totally at ease with the massive expectation continually on their shoulders.

I don't get the impression Bale would deal with it in the same way, and still be ridiculously prolific in front of goal. Ronaldo, especially, is very strong mentally, and his prodigious goalscoring record - whilst carrying the burden of being the world's most expensive player - is testament to that.

Additionally, prior to his move to Madrid, Ronaldo's goalscoring was off the charts:

* 69 goals/16assists in his last two seasons
* Averaged 42.5 goals/assists per season.

Comparatively speaking, Bale is nowhere near this level:

* 37 goals/24 assists in last two seasons.
* Averages 29 goals/assists per season.

At Madrid, Ronaldo exceeded his Manchester United goalscoring exploits, but is Bale capable of doing the same? I doubt it. In fact, I think it's possible that he'll crash and burn if he goes to the Bernabeau, just like Luca Modric.

  1. Bale is roughly 3/4 to Ronaldo's level so I would say Bale should be worth £65m/€70m

    ReplyDelete
  2. Definitely. KK is spot on - if he can pay 35m for Caroll, 20m for Downing or 8m for Adam, Bale is indeed worth 85m.

  3. I always believe if you are a world class player at a mid to top level club and you overly excel then moving to real Madrid or Barcelona, giving enough game time bale can get close to Ronaldo, as for modric, i don't believe its a fair comparison as he didn't play enough, whose place was he ever goin to take, Alonso or khedira?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Spot on, my friend!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Neither Bale or Madrid have not set the transfer figure, Levy has. Money has ruined the beautiful game.

There's something right with the world today and everybody knows it's wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Messi is the best player ever so to say that Bale can be as good as him one day is ludicrous never mind the likes of original Ronaldo, Zidane, Maradona, Iniesta etc. Crazy talk in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  7. i would cash in on bale they may never get an offer close to this again ,at least they(spurs)are either buying players to improve there team or investing the transfer fund from a bale sale

    ReplyDelete
  8. What about there net spend once they have sold Bale? :-o

    ReplyDelete
  9. i don`t give a shit about bale, i`m more bothered that our net spend this transfer window is minus 3 million if downing leaves for west ham. how are we spose to break in the top 4 with investment like that? gillete and hicks springs to mind. i can also see the scenario now where suarez gets sold to RM on the last day of the season with no time or no one to replace him, net spend then minus 43 million pounds

    ReplyDelete
  10. Net spend is totally irrelevant!

If Spurs sell Bale their net spend for the last three seasons will be a round zero.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Luka Modric is supposed to be played at the position Mesut Ozil does. He was being played out of position by Mourinho at Real Madrid.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Its not strange some pple dnt understand the value of money.i think u are one of them kenny.zats why liverpool are making loss after loss wiz ur buy.bale nt worth more than 15m.wat did he prove n achieved so far.i want to know if bale worth 85m.how much messi worth?

    ReplyDelete
  13. so spurs and liverpool are giving up on top four then? i bet spurs re invest half the bale money at least and bring in a couple of world class players, liverpool have done nothing but sell the best players and bring in potential for the last 6years making a net spend of about 0 in that time which is why were not in the top 4 anymore, imo 20 million a year needs to be invested in squad each year to stay in cl

    ReplyDelete
  14. Messi's clause says he's 250m but Ronaldo's clause says he's 1bn.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Goodness zats madness

    ReplyDelete
  16. I read an article where Spurs were supposed to sign 5 attacking players if Bale leaves Tottenham.

    ReplyDelete
  17. we have lagged behind ,aqnd i do see anyway back, unless we spend but that is not going to happen,we are a big club in fan base only

    ReplyDelete
  18. They have way too many players in their squad, especially midfielders. Unless they get rid of some I cannot see them flashing money all over the place.

    ReplyDelete
  19. and suarezs is 40 million, some of our players release contracts must be getting into the hundreds

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't think if there's any clause with Suarez and if its there then why isn't the club letting Suarez talk to Arse?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Go look at how many midfielders Spurs have in their squad mate. They will not sign anymore players unless they get rid of some.

Levy is wetting his pants at the moment. he is going to get a hiuge amount of cash if Bale does go but where can he find a like for like replacement?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with that but who knows? They might go for one more class striker IMO and one more CB and two attacking midfielders still though. They've a totally new squad at the start of this season.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Go look at how many midfielders Spurs have in their squad mate. They will not sign anymore players unless they get rid of some.

Levy is in a difficult spot. He get a huge amount of cash if Bale does go but where can he find a like for like replacement plus they have loads of midfielders who have to be moved on.

    ReplyDelete
  24. max you amaze me not only do you know everything that rodgers and fsg are going to do ,you also no what levy is going to do

    ReplyDelete
  25. it was a bit of a joke m8

    ReplyDelete
  26. LOL LMFAO :D :D :D

    ReplyDelete
  27. No i do not know what Levy is going to do, i am just stating the obvious. Where is he going to find a player right now that will guarantee to replicate Bale's form of last season?

    ReplyDelete
  28. My bad dear sir :)

Well I think next time LFC puts anything like that in there players I hope they do make it at least 85m+ ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. you did not say that, you said they would not sign anymore players ,they may not they might do its not fact its speculation, thats what we all do they only become facts after the event as happened ,i feel a lot of my speculation at the start of the transfer window may soon become fact, but thats a different story

    ReplyDelete
  30. Funny, same thing could be said about you :)

Oh sorry I forgot, you are a ex-manager with years of experience managing at the Top Level, making multi-million pound deals and interacting with the best players in world ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. totally agree if you are going to put a release clause in you mite as well make it massive

    ReplyDelete
  32. it could be m8 but like i said mine is speculation

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with Kenny when he says a player is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for him, but also have reservations re Bale being able to justify the kind of price tag being rumoured by Real.

Not worth 85mil thats for sure, its easy for a Top player to shine at a Club like Tottenham :) esp last season when it seemed that Bale was the only player seemingly able to find the net consistently & turn a game, even Spuds fans would have to agree that their team performance was oftentimes lacking esp in the last period of the season where they seemed to drop off the pace.

That form could work out at Real for Bale, in many ways i hope it does for his sake, but i definitely have reservations as to whether the experience could actually see him (Bale) overwhelmed & intimidated, its a big step up, no doubt about that, but if he can handle it & translate the same form he produced for Spuds for Real, playing alongsige Top players then i guess he would perhaps justify that inflated price tag, but it is atm inflated, jury';s out on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Bale offers a bit more defensively and has better tactical discipline than Ronaldo.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That is why i was stating the obvious.

Once they have signed Etienne Capoue who is another midfielder then they will have about 14 midfielders in their squad.

How many of those midfielders can make it into the starting eleven?

    ReplyDelete
  36. so there midfield will be strong ,they could decide to invest in other areas of there squad and release players like huddleson and defoe

    ReplyDelete
  37. I just think that tottenham are not as good as utd were when ronaldo was there and also because so far hes not quite as good as ronaldo was at the same age, however i see a ruthlessness with bale that you could see with Ronaldo and to think he had some terrible record at first where when he started for first 40 games or so tottenham never won. Which obviously adds pressure, there was a rumour that redknapp was considering letting him go for 5 mill and sometimes that can be the kick up the ass a player needs, similar to alonso after 2 average seasons we tried to sign barry as a replacement and he went on to have his best season. I just think bale has suffered a few lows and he came back fighting and he has the attributes to go on to be one of the best. Not saying he will match Ronaldos record over the long run but he is certainly a quality player, one who we would all like to have at liverpool, surely?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Getting the better players matter that make an impact and hit the ground running. Not the net spend (IMO). Net spend reflects what you've invested in the team generally.

    ReplyDelete
  39. jaimie what do you think about luis suarez refusing to apologise to lfc as he feels he was promised a summer transfer according to the guardian, this is only going to end one way in tears

    ReplyDelete
  40. Release Huddlestone and Defoe when they still have contracts?

This conversation has just gone out of the window and i refuse to discuss such illogical points any further.

    ReplyDelete
  41. But my poin t is that if Bale does go then Spurs will have a net spend of nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  42. There were talks for Huddlestone with Sunderland and they're looking to replace Defoe.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah right. You are wasting my time.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If you sell a player for that high that doesn't mean you sign a player for the exact same amount and its not necessary that the club will spend the whole payment just for transfers, it could be for stadium redevelopment purposes also.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think if he isnt sold, he will soon come round as its a world cup year, he surely wouldnt want to jeopardize his place in the Uruquay team and surely Rodgers wont play him if his attitude stinks. Got Sturridge and Aspas to play there if he carries on.

    ReplyDelete
  46. But then net spend is irrelevant!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Which was my point all along!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. max if you have a good team and only need to tweek it sometimes your net spend will be low as the players you are going to replace will have a higher transfer value, then you add one or two players a year ,and if the manager is doing is job right you should see improvement the fact is we do not have a good team so we need major investment its simple really ,and if we do not invest other clubs will and the gap will get wider

    ReplyDelete
  49. But not always mate. There are a few things that fall out of consideration when a huge impact happens. Do you think if Coutinho scores more goals than Suarez this season and we qualify for the CL(delusional I know) then would you say Suarez is not a great player anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  50. It is your opinion that we do not have a good team.

Try to crawl away form the fact that NET SPEND is irrelevant :-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. What has that got to do with net spend?

    ReplyDelete
  52. I was giving you something else to relate with and not exactly net spend.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What you said has got noting to do with net spend.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My argument is that net spend is irrelevant.

    ReplyDelete
  55. And mine is that no it isn't, not always. Different situations have different impact of it on them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Prove that net spend is relevant when Spurs are going to sell bale for 85 million POUNDS.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Suarez and his agent insisted on the clause not LFC and that is why it has come back to bite Suarez.

Just shows that Suarez is only after personal gain. Why did he sign his new contract last season. Nice pay rise.

If he was so adamant to leave he would be willing to give up his loyalty bonus by handing in a transfer request yet he still thinks the club will roll out the red carpet for him.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Good to see your sticking to your " I refuse to discuss such illogical points any further" hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  59. That's his agents problem and he put that all in his head. Its his agent who has brought all that up.

    ReplyDelete
  60. not if your a accountant aint it. Oddly its way more important to business. Although I do understand that if Max says it is irrevlevant than it is. How is your taking over the world going?

    ReplyDelete
  61. In that case it becomes irrelevant. There can be a situation where no such huge sale is made but only sales of around 20-35 millions and then not a single player is bought. Won't net spend come into consideration then?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I am not making things up. Suarez insisted that a clause be put in to his contract that if another club offers over 40m that we would have to let him go.

Luckily personnel at LFc are very well educated and made sure that the clause was not going to benefit Suarez. They saw Suarez and his agent coming and both sets lawyers wrote up a clause that was completely the opposite of what Suarez and his agent asked for.

    ReplyDelete
  63. you should write a book with all this inside info you got, I`d buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It is in the press. Even LFC have confirmed that Suarez cannot leave if a bid of 40 million has been made, they only have to advise him of the bid.

Google is a wonderful thing I tell you.

    ReplyDelete
  65. You are still replying to me.

    Gotta love it!

    ReplyDelete
  66. My point is based around Bale being sold.

    ReplyDelete
  67. The press wrote that Liverpools lawyers on purpose made sure they wrote up the opposite of what Suarez wanted in his contract? wow. At least now I know the press don`t lie, and google only list sites which having 100% confirmed truth in there searches, phew.

    ReplyDelete
  68. And my point is based on clubs where Bale is not there.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I`ve never said I wouldnt? I enjoy it replying to you, as I find your condosending ways rather amusing and that brighten up my day. We all need a chuckle once in a while Max.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hence the reason why Suarez belives that he should be allowed to go to Arsenal.

How did Arsenal know that bidding £40,000,001 would "trigger" his release.

Suarez and his agent clearly did not read the final clause before they signed it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Opposites attract :-)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Guess what? I just noticed something rather unusual here. There is some guest who constantly votes up his posts in the whole discussion. Might be @Max giving +1 to his posts from the other browser LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Clearly. Being opposite from condosending though is a compliment, so thanks:-)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Then there was no need for you to reply to my original post unless you want to continue discussing the sale of Bale.

    ReplyDelete
  75. So I have to base my arguments with your logic?

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think BALE's valuation is excessive and that world record price tag if he leaves will be too much for him to handle.I'd love to be wrong though because i like when players from the UK get out from the safety zone of the PL and test themselves in other leagues and are successful.
CR loves the spotlight and it'll be very hard for GARETH BALE to shine to the level that people talk about him in the same category as RONALDO or MESSI.For BALE to have any chance of living up to that ridiculous fee CR has to leave REAL MADRID.But you run the risk like JK said of him not being unable to live up to the pressure of being the main guy at the biggest club in the world.
NEYMAR on the other hand is going into a BARCELONA team where MESSI has less ego and will be more willing to share the limelight. He'll be able to do his stuff without LM taking world class performances and big production from another team mate as a personal insult.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yea Deves, can`t believe you actually wrote on a open forum, the craziness of it, whatever next ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Hence the reason why Suarez belives that he should be allowed to go to Arsenal.

How did Arsenal know that bidding £40,000,001 would "trigger" his release.

Suarez and his agent clearly did not read the final clause before they signed it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  79. What about your logic?

    ReplyDelete
  80. You said you're talking about sale of Bale I said I am saying about sale of players that aren't Bale and clubs that are not Tottenham. Get that? Wait you didn't because you've a skin as thick as the concrete don't you? And the points that other members here try to make don't reach your brain eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Hence the reason why Suarez belives that he should be allowed to go to Arsenal.

How did Arsenal know that bidding £40,000,001 would "trigger" his release.

Suarez and his agent clearly did not read the final clause before they signed it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Talk about sniping. WOW!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Hence the reason why Suarez belives that he should be allowed to go to Arsenal.

How did Arsenal know that bidding £40,000,001 would "trigger" his release.

Suarez and his agent clearly did not read the final clause before they signed it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Do you have a stutter?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Max do you have a Stutter?

    ReplyDelete
  86. You're ignorant @Max and accept it. You wouldn't except someone else's points even if World War III breaks out, would you?

    ReplyDelete
  87. He will ask if you've ;) :P

    ReplyDelete
  88. What do you want me to agree with You?

    ReplyDelete
  89. That is why he cannot give a proper reply to the comment i have posted like 5 times!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I don't want you to agree with ME. I want you to have a discussion where you don't force people with your views to except that you're right.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Then stop altogether posting it. :P

    ReplyDelete
  92. Deves, I will save you hours of time. This is what Max does. He would disagree with you if you said the sky was blue. You will go round in circles, proving point after point, with the benchmark changing each time. Honestly you wont get any sense out of the lad. Most posters have been here with him. Kinda of a shame as the site has gone way down hill due to him. Still there are other good posters so worth visiting still. I now just wind him up, as its more fun.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I am not saying i am right. I am stating net spend is irrelevant and want you to prove me wrong when Bale gets sold for 85 million pounds. That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Lol got your point mate but I still love debating with him, he makes me laugh so hard at time. Its Devesh and not Deves :P Its my first name IRL mate.

    ReplyDelete
  95. He wont. I decided a while ago the best way forward is dont bother answering Max`s questions as you will end up there all day. Just reply with random stuff, its way more fun ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  96. hahaha, so your saying your right then? haha

    ReplyDelete
  97. And am saying that not every club has a Bale who they can sell and say that net spend is irrelevant because to most of them net spend is the most relevant thing in any business and a sale like Bale is considered to be a huge margin profit.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Let's see if you stop replying to me in future.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Come on man, why would we? We love you mate, you make me laugh with your points at times when I least expect it. :D :P

    ReplyDelete
  100. Circles i tell you. Circles!

    ReplyDelete
  101. As stated, I will always reply to you. Just not in a serious way. You dont do discussion as your always right and have inside knowledge on everything. How could I ever argue with the spoken word of the lord.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Well it is not like you are ever going to agree with me?

    Oh my word!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I do agree with you over many things mate but there are some things that I love to discuss upon and generally with an opposite view of yours or anyone's on it because we all can't always agree. Can we?

    ReplyDelete
  104. But you are generalising now.because even Jaimie will agree with me that net spend is irrelevant.

Do you agree that the club is heading in the right direction with the way we are doing our recruiting?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Yes, I think they're heading in the right direction. When SAF came to ManUre they didn't win nothing for a few years. What LFC are doing here is signing young players and make a squad which can grow together and play the same kind of football. I don't find anything wrong with that and I also understand that its not gonna get us success overnight.

    ReplyDelete
  106. But if you agree that the club is heading in the right direction then net spend is irrelevant because the way FSG work now that FFP is here they will insist on the books being balanced which is the only way the club will exist until we get back into the CL.

    Care to discuss that?

    ReplyDelete
  107. How is net spend irrelevant if you want to balance books? I don't agree with your POV that FFP will hinder importance of net spend, whereas its only going to increase the importance of net spend IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Go do yourself a favour and and read up the procedures of FFP.

John W Henry is very FFP orientated. I am not making these things up just in case you tell you are like Zanatos and tell me i am making things up.

    ReplyDelete
  109. so the question now is when will Luis make that transfer request ,the Club surely will have to make that sale a few days b4 the end of the transfer window.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Dalglish showed just how adept he is with the modern game by his recent showing at Liverpool. The players he signed, and the fees paid, were quite simply embarrassing - not just to the Club, but to English football. His opinions are outdated and irrelevant and he should stick to the golf course and the ex-player graveyard.

No one does, or should, care what he thinks any more.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hence the reason why Suarez belives that he should be allowed to go to Arsenal.

How did Arsenal know that bidding £40,000,001 would "trigger" his release.

Suarez and his agent clearly did not read the final clause before they signed it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  112. dont undersell yourself max im taking what you as gospel

    ReplyDelete
  113. if defoe and huddleston are going on loan they could be the marquee signings we are looking for

    ReplyDelete
  114. they should have got you to overwrite it max

    ReplyDelete
  115. im not saying im right but your an idiot if you disagree with me...hahahah you should have that on your gravestone max very fitting

    ReplyDelete
  116. An apology doesn't make any difference as far as I'm concerned. Why do fans continue to care about what players and managers say, when they're clearly lying most of the time and just saying whatever is required to further their own personal agendas??

Actions count, words don't. If Suarez doesn't get sold, all he has to do is play well and help us win until the time when he does finally get his move. Any words he may say until then should be deemed as irrelevant.

    ReplyDelete
  117. they dont do jokes on this forum m8

    ReplyDelete
  118. I'm sorry but I wish to ask why should we fans be bothered by the term 'net spend'? I've not understand the least bit of it since day one and I think it is a meaningless term for measuring the ambition and overall performance of the club. Any transfers of players should be judged as an individual entity. Say if we sell LS for 40 mil pounds and buy 2 mediocre players like AC for 35 mil pounds each, then are we suppose to say that the owner and manager are ambitious because they are willing to invest 30 mil pounds into squad building??? No, as fans, we should curse the whosoever that is destroying the club's finances and well-being.

I can understand your frustration because the club seems unwilling to spend big on supposedly 'established' players but I do prefer to look at the bright side of things. Since we are not in the Champions League so realistically we won't have the finances to maintain a huge squad, i.e. a reserve goalie on weekly wage of 100k pounds. Clearing out players like Reina, AC and potentially SD, Assaidi and Coates is to trim wage bills and free up the squad for new players to come in. Another point, we almost always get better value for money on relatively cheaper buys. For every Torres and LS, we can come up with a huge list of expensive flops. Based on our Jan purchases of DS and Coutinho, I think it is not that bad after all to take a harder look at players in the 8-12 mil pounds range. I think we have 2 not-that-bad buys in Mignolet and Aspas this window.

In the coming season, I hope we can get rid of the dead weights in the team, the new team to gel quickly and young players can step up whenever there's opportunity. Sorry for my 2 cents but I firmly believe even with the present squad minus Coates, SD and LS not going to Arsenal, we have a good chance to fight for the 4th spot, realistically.

    ReplyDelete
  119. fsg have brainwashed Liverpool supporters with such phrases ....liverpool football forums are more akin to accountancy forums now a days...its all about balance the books....net spend...profit margins ...P&L ...GROSS INCOME...Or to put it simple ...there isnt any money for players dont get your hopes up

    ReplyDelete
  120. Rafael is the one who brainwashed pool fans with the term Net Spend.

That was the main excuse for defending Rafa, remember?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yes.

Jaimie, I think gilstrap may have a short memory.

Do you know how many articles Jaimie wrote in the past while he was still at the club about Rafa and his apologists defending him about Net spend?

    ReplyDelete
  122. This actually does seem like the more likely scenario - the side with the better lawyers winds. Otherise, what is the value of discussions at a 40m bid, if it doesn't guarantee anything? "Good Faith" clause. It's fishy. Suarez needs a new agent, new lawyers, and a PR person - if he stays, which is the more likely scenario, I'm sure he'll be kickin ass and taking names, and you will all love him again.

    ReplyDelete
  123. therapy sessions m8 you will need them ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  124. I think Daniel Levy is offering commissions on the sale of Bale to any pundit that has compared him to Ronaldo and Messi. Is he good? Yes. Messi or Ronaldo level? No. Proven? One season with 10+ goals, another with 21 - so it's not like he's done anything crazy. When Ronaldo left at the same age, he had one the League, Champions, and had a 30+ goal season, as well as a couple closer to the 20 mark, also has a greater marketing appeal. Suarez at the same age scored 49 goals in 48 games for Ajax, and had a few good seasons before.

As for how he would do at Real - whats the plan, to score all their goals from outside of the box? Who will take free kicks, Bale or Ronaldo? If both these players are open, who do you think will be the go to guy for the pass? He might be forgiven for missing chances from outside at TH, but I'm sure it would cause tension at Real. He could prove me wrong but I doubt it - if he goes, he'll probably get around 15 goals a season, and maybe 10 assists, good, but not world record fee good.

But hey, if Levy gets the fee, all the power to him. Even if all his previous seasons were as good as his last, he wouldn't be worth that much - I don't quite get all the hype, it's not like he's a teenager, or 20 for that matter, he's a late bloomer, and is probably peaking early. Doubt he'll improve on his form this season, let alone replicate it.

  131. Sorry, I would have to say that LFC is now starting to acquire the correct practice for the accounting side of business, though most fans hope the club can do the reverse indefinitely, as usual. I have a very small business in 2 countries so I guess I know a little about balancing the books, net spend and profit etc. As a loyal fan, I have always been very concern about the financial health of the club because it is the foundation for continual success. In general, for soccer clubs without endless supply of oil & gas dollars, spending within means is the way to go, at least for the foreseeable future. By right, LFC is no exception but we are always doing the reverse and we should count ourselves lucky because we are still surviving well till now.

Just a point I want to highlight, I have good but not blind faith in our team. Realistically, they are definitely good enough to challenge for the 4th spot in the league. Though I think they do need reinforcements in some departments but I won't be terrifically disappointed if no one else is coming in this window.

  132. KD and Comolli the combo would have sent the club into administration with their knowledge of the modern game, no much dispute about it. KD was a legendary player and I would seriously respect his views about any footballing issues except player's valuation and worth etc.

  133. Got back stoned, I think it'll be a good therapy I reckon. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  134. He wont because he doesn't want to lose any money. If he was serious about leaving it would of been the first thing he did.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Personally I do not believe for one second that Real have any intention of signing Bale for 85mil or anything close to that.

I suspect that Real will simply pull out of talks and state that Levy is demanding too much which will in turn frustrate Bale even more.

Depending on what kind of person bale is, this could hurt him mentally and thus have an effect on his performances and lowering his value.

Bale is will mostly go next summer for a lot less then 85mil.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Exactly that might happen. & I think FSG 'll try to sale the club for 350m "As it is" basis; after taking the money of Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I agree, seems like a fabrication of sorts. The 85M and 100M figures have been floated around since the spring. Kinda like Cavani who nobody thought anyone would go for his release clause of 55M. But 55M and 85M+ are way different. Can't see even the most frivolous spender paying that much, way too big a risk for someone who might not be able to reproduce the same results.

  138. Because a) we wouldn't want to sell him to a rival club for the top 4, and b) we don't have enough time to thoroughly look for a worthy replacement for suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  139. whos opinion is that yours or john henrys

    ReplyDelete
  140. How is a month not enough time to look for a replacement??

And you do know that Suarez isn't available to play for anybody until well after the transfer window closes right?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Bale has better tactical discipline than Ronaldo in what regard?

He's likewise given a free role and doesn't score as much as Ronaldo - are ppl seriously arguing that Bale is a better than Ronaldo is/was??

    ReplyDelete
  142. Of course it isn't. For a non champions league club like Liverpool, it needs all the time it can get to either find a great striker somewhere in the world cheaply, or to convince an established striker to come to Liverpool.

Yes, I'm aware Suarez has a 6 game ban. I'm not aware that it has to do with anything in relation to this.

    ReplyDelete
  143. It's an opinion we both share.

    ReplyDelete
  144. You know what, I can't even be bothered right now - if you want to just accept everything that comes out of the mouths of certain ppl in spite of all of the evidence you've seen otherwise, just because such persons happen to be officially associated with a professional football club, then that is your prerogative

    ReplyDelete
  145. Kenny lost all credibility when he signed Caroll for £35 million & Downing for £20 million. He should keep his head down as for me he cost us dearly and was RIGHTLY sacked. Before anyone tries to blame Comolli Dalglish stated he had final say on players.
Had the money that Dalglish squandered been used properly I suspect we'd be in the Champion League spots.

As for Bale he's overrated and will be found out when he or if he goes to Madrid.
I'd bite there hand off for the money, but being Spurs they will snatch improvement from the jaws of success.
They got rid of Harry Redknapp when they were on the verge of TOP4 they have consistently sold there better players Modric Carrick Berbatov.
They have not won any Major honors in 30 years.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I honestly have no clue what you are talking about. My beliefs are clear. I don't think 3 weeks is long enough to give ourselves the best possible chance of finding a great replacement. I also just happen to share this opinion with Mr. Henry. And then you for some unknown reason brought in the fact he has a 6 game ban...

    ReplyDelete
  147. As I said, I can't be bothered to argue - if you want to believe that the club couldn't complete negotiations for new players within a month, or even worse that it would take more than a month to identify potential replacements for existing players (on top of the scouting that is going on all year round) then good for you

And shame on LFC if that is the case!

    ReplyDelete
  148. I'm just not confident we can, given our current league status. Having 3 weeks left is starting to rush things a bit. How many players have Arsenal signed this window? I'm sure they've been in negotiations with some players. But they still haven't signed anyone

    ReplyDelete
  149. ok, Arsenal haven't signed any first team players yet, after wasting all their time on Higuain and Suarez.

But how many have Tottenham signed?
    Or Norwich?
    Or Southampton? etc etc..

    ReplyDelete
  150. Exactly my point. As shown by Arsenal, 3 weeks is also possibly not long enough to negotiate and seal a striker. How long were they negotiating with Higuain for? it seemed to drag on forever, and they still couldn't land him. So what's not to say that it could happen to us as well if we decide to sell Suarez and then rush to find a new striker? Don't forget, Arsenal have only put in two bids that meet nowhere near his true valuation. Seriously, it could take another few weeks before they finally put in a tempting bid. So then we sell... but crap, hang on, we've only got a few days left to find a new striker!

To be quite frank, Arsenal have been smart-asses in this whole saga, so why should we believe they'll put in a big respectable bid any time soon? And please, with Norwich and Southhampton, finding an unknown player on the cheap who is desperate to experience the premier league is not hard for them. So then basically, this argument would have a whole different story if Liverpool were content with finding a really cheap average striker in the space of 3 weeks. It took Spurs more than a month to get their striker, not 3 weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Am I the only person that doesn't see bale as this miracle of football? He's fast with a good free kick (that he should be good at due to diving in the preferred spots to get said free kicks) Ronaldo was amazing to watch all the time, you never knew what he was going to do, Bale just isnt that player to me, just some chimp who makes a love heart and looks like a neanderthal Clark Kent

    ReplyDelete
  152. Arsenal chose to back away from the Higuain deal so that they could mess about with Suarez - a player that the club has made clear it does not want to sell. On the other hand, Napoli stepped in and made pretty quick work of the Higuain signing instead!

And Norwich, Southampton & Swansea have been picking up players of the calibre that we have been looking at/picking up. The difference is that they're newly promoted clubs looking to establish themselves in the Premier League, whereas we are supposedly looking to push on into the Champions League. While Spurs were only stated as being in talks over Soldado for a couple of weeks, as opposed to since the window opened...
