'He wants to move' - LFC keen to sign 'third choice' €14m star. Transfer Priority...?

In March, Paris St. Germain star Mamdou Sakho publicly revealed his frustration with being 'third choice' at the club, and according to new PSG boss Laurent Blanc, the 23-year old is determined to leave France this summer.

Speaking to L'Equipe earlier this year, 6'2 Sakho admitted that he'd 'finally come to accept' that his time at PSG is over, and bemoaned his slip down the pecking order. He said:

"In the mind of the PSG coach, I'm the third choice, and I do not understand it.

"I have to play at club level to qualify for the France team. Next season will be important.

"It's been a difficult year and a half for me at PSG. To continue my progress, I must be playing."

Discussing Sakho's future last night, Blanc dropped a big hint that the powerful defender is on his way out of PSG. He told L'Equipe:

"When a player [Sakho] wants to move clubs you have to offer an argument that makes him want to stay. You also have to look at what his status is in the team. If that status won't change, what can you say?"

Clearly, Blanc is suggesting here that Sakho is unlikely to move up the PSG pecking order next season, and that means only one thing: the defender is likely to leave.

When asked recently about the possibility of a move to Arsenal or Liverpool, €14m-rated Sakho told Sky Sports:

"I adore the English Premier League, and if I have to leave PSG to keep my place in the France national team, then I have no choice but to leave"

According to Sky Sports today:

* Liverpool and Monaco are 'keen' on signing Sakho.
* Both clubs are ready to submit bids to 'test PSG's resolve'.

23-year old Sakho fits FSG's 'buy 'em young' profile, and having watched him play many times (I follow Ligue One), he's a speedy, powerful, top class central defender, and that's exactly what Liverpool need.

Rodgers confirmed last week that he still intends to sign at least one defender before the transfer window ends, and this deal is a no-brainer, surely?

  1. Hav'nt seen enough of him to decide, dont know how he shapes up compared to Papa, and Alderweireld. But the price seems reasonable.

  5. Get the feeling that toure will partner agger for the first match of the season. And Martin will have a chance to get his place back. Toure looks a top pro. Jamie what do honestly feel will happen with the big ins and out at lfc? Suso already gone on loan. Who do you think BR will sign?

  6. Exactly what we need, sign him.

I totally agree we could and should get the ajax captain he's cheaper and I do think we will get him if we are serious before Norwich

  8. Id have no problem with him coming in but I doubt we will go for Sakho

  9. made captain at 17? Hardly a reject is he?

  10. I'm sure that with Blanc as manager, he'll get more of a chance and stay.

  11. Germany are currently producing the best players as well as belgium and uraguay other then that yeh i agree
    no french or engish plsyers

  12. Below the £10m, he would be worth taking the risk on. Should cost less than £10m, considering he doesn't have much time left on contract. Can cover left back too. Decent player. Apparently, Barca are after Thiago Silva. Though PSG will most likely splash out on a CB if Silva did leave, so I doubt the Brazilian's departure would effect Sakho much in that case.

  13. He didn't get picked by Blanc for Euro 2012 but then again, I guess his age and inexperience at the time meant that it wasn't that big of a shock, despite getting picked for games before the tournament.

  14. I do like what I saw on the tape especially the series of tackles...very strong. He's 6'2" so he has the height. I would question why he's been put at #3 on the depth chart though. Is the PSG back line that good or is there something erratic about his play or is he a head case? Anybody know?

  15. I don't know enough about him to form an opinion on his worth. But if he has been a target we monitored then the price tag is not overly expensive for a player of his age and supposed ability. We definately need another CB, and CDM in my opinion. And if Southampton sign Wanyama as is being reported, i'll be a little sick...

  16. this man is world class. i have seen enough of him and he would be a great addition alongside agger.

  17. From Wikipedia: In January 2012, Kombouaré resigned from his position. He was replaced by Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti. Under the helm of Ancelotti, Sakho retained the captaincy and appeared as a starter through March. However, after unconvincing performances in draws with Lyon, Caen, and Bordeaux, which resulted in the club losing its grip on first place, the captain was benched by Ancelotti and stripped of the captaincy. Ancelotti based Sakho's benching on the increased competition in the squad as the Italian preferred the central duo of Milan Biševac and Alex. Sakho was also questioned by club director Leonardo for being "slightly overweight".
After making a cameo appearance in the Le Classique, Sakho made his second appearance since his benching on 29 April 2012 appearing as a first half substitute for the injured Biševac against fellow title contenders Lille. In the second half, with Les Parisiens leading 1–0, Sakho conceded a penalty after fouling striker Nolan Roux. The foul also resulted in a red card. Lille converted the penalty and later went on to win the match 2–1.
So...change of manager who pushed his favorites forward...not buying the overweight and competition aspect...and anybody can have a bad game.

  18. Would be a decent signing. Although i would prefer Pap or Toby guy from Ajax esp as i think we can get him over Norwich. And i am assuming the Pap story is dead now

saw that Henriykh scored (bloody good goal) and set-up a goal on his dortmund debut- felt a sharp pain in my gut watching it

  19. Liverpool should dismiss selling Suarez to an English club. For fook's sake, offer Suarez to RM for Higuain and cash. Get Higuain, and buy players like Sakho or Eriksson with the money. What are Arsenal or Chelsea going to offer that's better? Nothing- it will only advantage them in the top 4 race.

  20. although i would normally agree with you ,you have to look up hes co mpeting against for a starting place

  21. Think Djimi Traore.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1) I have read GH is a lazy player.
    2) There is a reason no one wants to buy him for more than 25mn euros.
    3) Its a step down from RM to LFC at the moment IMHO.

Hey jamie why only news about whom we gonna bring in and very LESS about whom we gonna KICK out ????

    ReplyDelete
  24. Apparently, there is no one we gonna kick out.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I doubt that - Maybe no bids for Assaidi, Downing, Coates and Pacheco have arrived yet.

    ReplyDelete
  26. well GH or no GH, RM is still a far better choice for Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Pacheco/Assaidi in or out doesn't matter much. They are not gonna play anyway. Downing will only go for 7-8mn which I doubt anyone would pay apart from West ham. Coates will stay.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Doesn't really matter to me. Highest bidder can take him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Meh. I don't want this guy playing for direct premier league rivals.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't believe we are rivals to Arsenal. Maybe Everton.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Pacheco and Assaidi could earn us a few million. Also, it's rumoured that Suso is close to going out on loan. Interesting..

  32. Mr. Point Of View11:58 am, July 11, 2013

i hope to see more Suso play. I think his capability above Raheem.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes, that would be beneficial only if Almeria play them regularly. Also, Ngoo loaned out and he is in the last year of his contract, scored a hattrick in his debut, friendly match. I think we can afford to keep pacheco if downing leaves. Bit part player as a backup for Aspas/Coutinho, same with Assaidi,

    ReplyDelete
  34. There's glimmers of David Silva with the way Suso moves the ball with his left foot. I'd rather not have Alberto and give Suso first team chances. I rate him highly.

    ReplyDelete
  35. He's a good CB and is third choice to Alex and Silva, I don't think there's any CB at Liverpool itself who we'd play ahead of the two PSG does so he's not actually a reject or anything IMO. He's just facing a lot more competition there than any other CBs do.Yes, we can sign him but not for 10million but for something under that but I'd prefer buying Toby over Sakho because he's more versatile and can play as RB as well as CDM which can be a good cover at multiple positions that too only for 8millions as that's his transfer fee being quoted.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The Echo (the club mouthpiece) said itain't happening 2 weels ago. No doubt we'll sign another centre half but instead of idle speculation a little researc would have told you this was a non runner

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes actually if chelsea manu and mancity have sealed top 3 , there is only one place left for either liverpool or totenham or arsenal. Selling Surez to arsenal givs them 4th for sure. Its better to sell to chelsea as it can't make our positon worse.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am a little surprised by some of the comments here. Clearly there are a lot of people have never heard of him or watched him play yet would like to denounce him because he's french or a "psg reject"; thats just rubbish. For those who have seen him play (jaime et al), it is clear that this guy has what it takes to be a superstar. Ticks off ever box we need in a defender and has even more to prove after being, imo, ridiculously benched by ancelloti. Toure won't be enough, Sakho is our long-term solution for a formidable back line and for 14mil euro that's a bargain for a guy who was valued at close to 25mil euro only 2 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So you actually think we can compete with Arsenal?

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's €14m, so about £12m. £10m would be a good deal IMO, but we may be able to get him a little cheaper, seeing as he wants to leave... PSG don't need the money though!

    ReplyDelete
  41. What about Arsenal?
