'I've followed Liverpool' - €18m striker reveals LFC transfer hopes. Option...?

Last season, Marseille Chairman Vincent Labrune confirmed that the French club's 'objective' was to sell players, and he specifically named long-time Liverpool target Andre Ayew as one of the players on the 'must sell' list. The Ligue One club have already sold several key players this season, and earlier today, Ayew hinted that he is interested in a move to Anfield.

An August, Labrune confirmed Marseille's financial difficulties, and specifically stated that certain players would be allowed to leave. He told France Football:

"We must sell players. We are trying to reduce the wage bill and we have three players we have agreed to let leave - Cesar Azpilicueta, Stephane Mbia and either Loic Remy or Andre Ayew"

Azpilicueta, Mbia and Remy have already joined Chelsea and QPR respectively, which leaves only Ayew left on Labrune's 'to-sell' list. When quizzed about his future this morning, 23-year-old Ayew urged Premier League clubs to get in touch with Labrune about a possible transfer. He told French TV programme Telefoot:

"It [The Premier league] is a league I always think of. I am Ghanaian and an English speaker, and the English league is the one most watched in Ghana. I have a strong preference for England, and as for Liverpool - I have followed them since I was young. I am not seeking to leave but if interested clubs have the number of [Marseille] president [Vincent] Labrune..."

In April, Ayew made similar remarks when asked about his future. He told reporters:

"The club have made it clear if they receive a good offer [for me] they will listen to that, but I will not go just to please the club, I will go to a club that wants to win trophies"

Ayew has been linked with a move to Anfield on several occasions over the last couple of years, and in June 2011, the Liverpool Echo reported that Kenny Dalglish wanted to sign the striker.

As is usually the case, the stumbling block could be the transfer fee: Ayew recently signed a one year contract extension until 2015 with a release clause of €18 million. There's no way the Ghanaian would go for anywhere near that amount though (IMO). Indeed, if QPR only paid £8m for the far more prolific Loic Remy, Ayew would surely be available for much less than that.

Another possible option for the summer?

Not really, we are stacked in that department... With Alberto coming in also Mkhitaryan. We are okay. and I wouldn't sign this guy to replace Suarez we would go after a better players with good scoring records.

  4. With Marseille being in financial troubles he could be a cheap and very good solution, I would love to see him in red to be honest !!

With Remy gone, why is Ayew still on the must sell list?

    No Story here....

  6. would he put any of the strikers at the club under pressure to perform not in my opinion if we sell suarez i expect a better striker than this to be signed

    ReplyDelete
  7. If (and when) we sell Suarez who do you think we should buy to replace him?

    ReplyDelete
  8. the simple fact is the strikers i would like to see would not come for a variety of reasons eg we cannot afford them we do not pay enough wages we have no european football to offer,so we are left with the second choices but ayew would not even be third choice, cheap good shouts could be villa and defoe, experienced and could score the goals to get us back in the top four, borinni imo will not score enough and sturridge will not play enough

  9. I think he will if we imply the logic of Remy coming for 8million. It won't hurt to have a player of his talent. I would really want to see him in a red shirt. And I do agree with Carr's view of an old but reliable striker as Defoe or Villa.

  10. You are pretty useless mate, he did not ask your analysis he asked who should we sign if or when Suarez is sold. Meaning just give out names. Defoe and Villa??? I will give you Villa but Defoe??? Really??? You must not watch enough football I mean your expertise is to bash BR and FSG so am not expecting you to have solutions!!! At least say Lukaku.

"We do not pay enough wages" we do if they EARN it, look at Suarez 120k, Gerrard-130k, reina,100k, also if Suarez left that 120k plus alittle extra could go to a replacement. BUT, you don't need to spend big on players, we could easily get Muriel, damieo, bentteke, But we can also have big signings higuain, or benzema :-), also borini and Sturridge WILL score, how can borini be judged on 14 games mostly from the bench lol. and Sturridge got 11/12 goals last year he could easily get 20+ a season.

  15. Nice to see us after these attacking options.

I'm a little disconcerted that we haven't addressed our defense yet.

Nice to see Toure come in, but he's not the answer to our problems, but a nice piece to the puzzle.

I'm curious to see if the club is waiting to see out the Suarez saga so they can see exactly how much money they'll be able to spend, and then hopefully line up two big players (1 attacking, 1 defending).

  16. We need to get our facts right, Dede Ayew is never a striker so can't be a replacement for suarez..he's rather a winger with a sweet left foot who can get u about 10 goals a season..Good enough to play for LFC,,,The boy's got Game

If Suarez does leave, then have upfront, aspas,Mkhitaryan,Sturridge, but we could sign damiao, bentekke,Muriel, or that st entiene striker ( no idea how to spell his name) haha :-)

It's not all about CL, if the player buys into our plans for the future they would sign.

  19. on another subject i do not think andy caroll will leave quitely, imo he will do what he wants and screw lfc aqnd if he decides hes not of to west ham were f"cked bad man management by rodgers and i think carolls going to have the last laugh

He will leave. He has a chance to play in the World Cup, he rather have first team than sit on the bench or stands. Also he hasn't even said anything so obviously he is being quiet. Like Big Sam said they are both back this week and he will sign :-) he getting 100k which he wanted. Also bad management from Rodgers LOL, he sent him out on loan and got 19 million for him that's good management!

    You're obsessed with slating Rodgers&FSG

    ReplyDelete
  22. Its just his opinion. Suarez will go. And Liverpool won't get a like for like, simply because there is a shortage of world class strikers. And Liverpool at the moment are in transition. I do agree that its better to get a young striker with potential than a 30 year old without the hunger. Rodgers is giving his best without huge money.

    ReplyDelete
  23. not obsessed just stating the obvious like i,ve said before i feel a bit sorry for rodgers

You are obssesed you have no base to slate either fsg or rodgers their doing a decent job

Jason, what's obvious tho? just wondering your side and why you don't like FSG or Rodgers? Also when did you say you feel sorry for Rodgers?:-)

  26. what experienced players moving on if he had wanted to keep them he could have sold him his vision

    ReplyDelete
  27. No doubt he would fit in, very similar to sturridge, one the one hand more clinical in front of the goal, on the other hand less proven in a league like the epl. Imo there's still a huge difference between the French and the English top league ;)
it would still be very hard to capture him, because many teams, including Monaco Tottenham Dortmund and a few clubs in Russia are tracking him...
Monaco beat us financially and yeah Tottenham i'm just saying history repeats itself, Tottenham stole us to many players in the past ...

  28. Good point! I will look elsewhere for a top striker. Jackson Martinez is the next big thing IMO.

Bellamy went back to Cardiff for family reasons, kuyt wanted a new challenge maxi wanted to go back to his old club you can't stop players from leaving if its personal carr71 you talk utter shite

    ReplyDelete
  30. could be but we do not have money to gamble with ,every signing as got to be an improvment on what we have ,if we are to get top four this season ,upto now they have not

    ReplyDelete
  31. liverpool4life5658:07 pm, June 16, 2013

Agree with your point. Bellamy, maxi left for personal reasons Rodgers even tried to make the, stay but the pull of going home was too much. Kuyt already made his mind up last season because kenny didn't play him much. We need more experienced players in our squad this season

    ReplyDelete
  32. so we can just let suarez leave thats personal

    ReplyDelete
  33. Redmenmarchingon8:11 pm, June 16, 2013

Two different things, maxi,Bellamy went back to there home! Suarez isn't as I said you talk shite

Most of those teams can outbid us, Dortmund were in the cl final, and yeah Tottenham:

  35. With aspas being a replacement for downing. Luis Alberto being another prospect (direct competition for borini) signing for the CF position, which is held down by both Suarez and sturridge. I expect Suarez will eventually be sold for more or less £40mill and andre ayew along with possibly another striker (benteke, Muriel...can't think of any other strikers we are linked with) would be good replacements. Although I expect henrikh and another striker will most likely be suarez replacements. Who that striker might be...

  36. Cmon posting a comment two times and it doesn't gett online...

  37. WILFRIED BONY would be a good replacement for SUAREZ.He's had a great season with 31 goals in 30 games with 8 assists. He'd give us the power option i think we lack.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Agreed. Look at Falcao joining Monaco with no European football to offer.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I thought Arsenal were getting Jovetic,if we were able to sign him I'd be over the moon, however I doubt Aquaman would be going head over heels to tell him to sign for us

    ReplyDelete
  40. TBH when Saurez leaves we don't necessarily need a like for like replacement e.g a 20 goal a season striker who plays like Saurez. For these resons:
    1. Sturridge, I believe in a season will score 20 plus & is extremely underrated, until this day I'm not sure why! His injuries may be a reflection of not playing consistently over the past few seasons, with a good preseason he'll be fit enough to get the goals!

    2. Rogers quite correctly is looking to create multiple goal sources especially from midfield which lessens the need for 20-30 goal a season striker.

    3. When C.Ronaldo left & Valencia replaced him most baulked at the idea. I think we should follow a similar formula, replace Saurez with a big athletic unit with pace & technique. Benteke, Martinez, Bony or Remy come to mind! Also no Carroll doesn't fit this category-too slow, insufficient technique!

For me Saurez leaving is not the end of the world, we just need imagination!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think we've seen the Bony scenario play out before.
    1. He scores alot in the eredivisie
    2. we ignore him
    3. he joins someone else for a decent price and dominates
    4. we get linked with him the following season for twice as much
It does confuse me why he hasnt been picked up yet as i saw him play about 10 times this season and he is a BEAST :P

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree, its not always about replacing the player.
Sometimes you have to just replace the players effect on the field.
BR recently said he wants to add 20 goals to the team, i think we can get that from Sturridge, Coutinho and anyone besides downing who takes the Right midfield spot.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Personally if King Kenny had done that we would have been challenging for Honors not just top 4(and for your sake BR would not be manager). It's quiet embarrassing when we are only looking for top 4, I know it's a start but we are not the Gooners!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. i agree m8 it is embarrassing but ,some fans are happy with 7th ,i believe with the right signings and if we keep suarez we could ,get top four next season ,and who knows maybe higher

    ReplyDelete
  45. yes m8 and look at his wages ,

  46. It appears you were wrong...and it turns out we milked WH for every penny we could :)
