'He's a great player' - LFC chase £5m star who's 'worthy of Barca'. Challenge Lucas...?

Liverpool have reportedly moved ahead of AC Milan in the race for Genoa defensive midfielder Juraj Kucka.

The Slovakian international has been linked with a move to the San Siro for a while now, but according to TMW and Milan News today, Liverpool are monitoring the £5m-rated midfielder, and are now favourites to sign him this summer.

Liverpool arguably need another dedicated defensive midfielder this summer to challenge Lucas, and there are several enticing options out there at the moment, including West Ham star Mohamed Diame.

Genoa Boss Davide Ballardini wants to keep Kucka, and speaking to reporters in February, he paid tribute the midfielder, claiming he's good enough to play for two of the best teams in Europe:

“Kucka is a great player, worthy of Real Madrid and he can even become worthy of Barcelona. He really is a player who can still give a great deal"

Kucka is currently co-owned by both Genoa and Inter Milan, after the Nerazzurri had bought 50 per cent of his signature last summer.

At around £5m, he definitely fits LFC's transfer budget (!), but Diame is already proven in the Premier League, and hopefully he'll be on the Reds' transfer list this summer.

What do people think of the move for kolo Toure? Personally I think it's a good move, free agent, 32 brings experience to our back line, and he has pace and strength.also to this guy I've never seen him player, has anyone seen him play? And is he good?

  2. I'm not even going to reply to that..

  3. Kolo Toure is rubbish.
Lescott is the under-rated player in the Man City defence - big, powerful, quick and capable of filling in at fullback at a push too

  4. Diame or Wanama for me.

  5. I've never heard of this guy. I've watched quite a bit of Diame this year after being confused as to why we didn't go after him last year, and have concluded that it must have been due to his tendency to just put his head down and charge all over the place at times. Also his passing is pretty erratic.

Diame is a good player, especially at the cheap price that he's reportedly available for, but I can understand the choice to overlook him in the pursuit of a more rounded, if not quite as physically dominant, central midfielder. I still can't understand overlooking him to go after players like Allen and/or Sahin though, especially when we already had Gerrard, Henderson, Shelvey, Aquilani & Suso on the books though

  6. Toure is garbage, but so is lescott. Papadopolous is who we need to be going for, get the chequebook out FSG

As a back up it isn't a bad option. he a winner. And has CL experience with our young players would benefit from. And lescott is a good shout too...

Toure would bring experience with him, 32 and he still fast and he is built wont be bullied, he would do for 2 seasons to help our younger players. Papadopoulous can be first choice CB but we also need back up.

  14. Yes....LFC need to sign 1 more new CDM players to keep Lucas Leiva having compete for hit high performance. This season he only improve only a little bit perform. He can beat and making ggod tackling but still not too creative to making many assist or score the goal.He joined LFC for more than 4 years but the goal??Below 5 goal.....what a funny midfielder.LFC must consider to sign Christian Tello and Eriksen and 1 more CDM players. Why not try to get Kucka or Diame or maybe Yann M'villa back??

  15. He look good for 5 millions.he score in all situation.i think we can go for it.

  16. Won't hurt the squad but I would still like to see us sign another center back if Toure comes. I wonder if he will swap his undoubtedly fat contract at Citeh (or whoever else) for a performance based bonus scheme contract at Anfield. But Toure/Agger could work imo.

  17. Haven't seen a thing that made me think, defensive midfielder. And nothing to make me go "wow" either. Smells of Biscan to me to be honest.

Toure kept up with sterling at start of the season, Toure 32 sterling was 17 that showed you he fast. And a very intelligent defender and course he a leader why was he captain of arsenal and man city??? Toure will only come in for backup and his experience we are losing carra, tell me another CB with same type of experience of carra and knows the premierleague....

I agree, also Toure won't be a starter, he can come in and still do a job in certain matches also would give young players help with his experience. And sell Coates and bring another two defenders in alongside Toure, papadopoulous and sporting Lisbon centre back.

  21. Just because somebody is named as the captain at a club doesn't necessarily indicate that the player is also a leader. e..g Everybody argues that Gerrard isn't really a leader, he's just our best player. Oftentimes it's just handed out to the most experienced player or just as a sign of respect to try to keep a particular player happy.

As I'll continue to argue, we need quality in the first team, not more backup players - surely that is what the reserves is for?? All that experienced squad/backup players do is hold back the development of the younger players, which is something we've already seen far too much of already at LFC in recent years.

Any experienced players in the squad need to have the quality to go along with their stature. And imo, Toure just doesn't have it anymore.

Well called upon this season Toure done very well. Also exerpeince gets you along way in football. As you saw when carra came into our side we started to play better. For a free transfer it isn't bad, look at when we signed Bellamy he done very well there it's a good move, also Toure won't be first team he wages will have to be performance related, also he desperate to stay in England by his brother so he would drop his wages, if we can sign papadopoulous, llori, and Toure then it would be good signings, all that would cost us 19 million, and sell skrtel and Coates, we get back 13 million for skrtel and 5 million for Coates.which would bring in 18 million.

  23. To not sign Diame on a free was madness, BR opted for Allen at 15m, he will never be better than Diame and arguably Henderson is better than Allen as well. Lucas certainly needs competition but we also require someone who has physical attributes.

  24. Experience doesn't go a long way, quality does. The defense improved with Carragher because he performed to a higher level than Agger and Carragher, not because he was just more experienced than them. Bellamy did well because he was better than his counterparts in the team, not because he was more experienced. Jovanovich, Konchesky, Kyrgiakos etc on the other failed because although experience, they just weren't of the requisite quality.

Likewise, Coutinho came in and was able to outperform Downing immediately because he is simply a better quality players, irrespective of the differing experience levels.

Whatever wages Toure gets would be a lot more than the likes of Kelly and Wisdom are getting, to perform the same backup role to a similar level of ability. The only difference being that Kelly and Wisdom would likely improve with the more experience that they gain in games, while Toure will do well to just stagnate, at best.

We're not in Europe next year. We won't have significant fixture congestion. As such, we don't need to bring in more old players to sit on the bench and steal game-time from our reserves.

You have a true point but we can send wisdom out on loan to gain experience, he hasn't had that yet... Toure is going to have a medical after he comes back from America anyway. So it seems like only personal terms need to be sorted...

  26. Lucas has made the most tackles per game in the BPL this season, does he need challenging.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I haven't been keeping up with all of the rumors doing the rounds and so didn't even know that this was a real thing on the grapevines!

Hopefully I'm wrong this time and if he does arrive Toure does turn out to be a lot more successful than all the other transfers that I've had doubts about in recent years...
