In May 2012, Liverpool defender Daniel Agger insisted that long-time Liverpool target Christian Eriksen 'has the potential to become world class', and praised his 'unique' ability on the ball. Eriksen continues to be linked with a move to Anfield, and Agger is convinced he's just the type of player the Reds need to sign this summer.
In an interview ast night, Agger - who is currently undergoing treatment on a back problem - told Sporten.dk:
"He [Eriksen] is the type of player we need.
"We would like to introduce and play offensive football with the ball on the ground, and that is what he stands for.
"He would fit naturally into the Premier League with his passing, running, and excellent work rate"
You'd think that Agger's role as the captain of the Denmark national team would give Liverpool a slim advantage when it comes to snagging Eriksen, but it seems that £20m-rated midfielder - who has 11 goals and 19 assists in 40 appearances this season - has his heart set on a move to one of Europe's elite clubs. He told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad last week:
"If I could play for clubs like Manchester City and PSG – why not? For me it is important that I have a good feeling at the club. I should be able to play football and then I could develop. I will be a better football player."
If 20-year old Eriksen wants to 'play football', why on earth would he want to go to City or PSG, where his chances of being a regular would be minimal? You only have to look at the progress of young players over the last few years to see that youth prospects at those clubs are pretty grim.
It's also interesting (IMO) that Eriksen just happens to name-check two of Europe's richest clubs. If he's really interested in developing as a player, he should go to a club where he's likely to play a lot of games, i.e. somewhere like Liverpool.
Speaking to Sporten.dk last week, Ajax coach Frank De Boer - who recently confirmed that Liverpool scouts are 'often present' at the Amsterdam Arena - enthused:
"Barcelona dominate as a team until they play the ball to Messi, who can things that no one else can. That is also Christian's role here, and Eriksen has the potential to be like him".
Last week, Liverpool legend Molby argued that Eriksen 'is exactly the type of player Liverpool should be looking at', and predicted that he 'has all the tools to become a top class player'. The Dane also sounded a note of caution, however. He told Eurosport:
"It is very exciting to be linked with a player of that quality, but I would suggest he [Eriksen] is another player who would need time to adjust to the Premier League"
The future is already looking bright for Liverpool, but if the Reds could pull off the Eriksen signing then the sky is the limit. Coutinho - also 20 - is proving t be an amazing signing, and it's conceivable that the Eriksen could have a similar impact.
Get to work, Dan!

If he went to City, he would probably just end up being another Scott Sinclair.... But hey if he is happy to sit on a bench and get his pay check, I don't want him at Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteI would rather ISCO
ReplyDeleteA player "like" Eriksen is what he says. Mkytharian it is then :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can convince them to a straight swap for Coates and Carrol :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, We want Ericsion, A young, Talented, energetic youngster to combine with Cuttiano, Sourez and Sterling if these player ground together they will definately prove a deadly combination. Because, all are tactful, Pacey and vary handy on ball and are having different range
ReplyDeleteHe'd go to dortmund, gotze just left no doubt bout it. one player we could sign are unfavourable player who wants to develop. maybe even coutinho ised Lfc as stepping stone. Carroll should have his chance until december.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't seem to have a great head on him and is probably determined to play for a rich club that can provide him medals and a large pay packet. It's hard to begrudge a player for this though. If FSG are serious about their youth policy then he would be a great signing. If he's going for clubs like PSG now though I don't see us having much of a chance.
ReplyDeleteCarrol has had until december. 2011. And then another six months on top of that. Doesn't fit the system anyway. Can you see him chasing down a Coutinho through ball or drift out wide and skip past defenders the way Suarez and Sturridge do? Or setup his strikepartner? Carrol was a horrible buy end of story.
ReplyDeleteAwesome player to rotate with Henderson and Shelvey when Gerrard retires. However, we'd still be a good holding mid short of a truly awesome midfield. Allen is poor cover for Lucas.
ReplyDeleteWho is in turn poor cover a for a holding mid..
ReplyDeleteNot gonna happen he's in talks with DORTMUND
ReplyDeleteWith Downing moving on, we should easily get 12mil for him Throw in Spearing, Shelvey, and Suso should be able to pay for his transfer. He is worth not more than 15mil. I say BR and FSG make a move and sign him up as a priority ASAP.
ReplyDeleteAnd why would anyone in their right mind pay 12 million for Downing? Not to mention selling Suso...wtf...
ReplyDeleteBecause Downing is British. Suso knows with the likes of Coutinho and new additions in the summer will only send him down the pecking order. A loan might keep him or he will be on his way out. That is the fcuk.
ReplyDeletewould love to see him at anfield alas i think it will be as an opposing player if fsg could pull it off or someone of his ilk then i mite start to revise my stance on how the club is being run lol;-)
ReplyDeleteHe does look a great little player, and of course I would love to have him at the club, however he plays in the same role Coutinho is best in. Not that having the two fight it out isnt a good thing, but in terms of what is needed more urgently I don`t think that position is. I would though still love to see him at the club as who wouldn`t want good players here.
ReplyDeleteIt also sends out a good message as he is pretty hyped up, and so in turn by getting him it shows other players at the club and not yet at the club that we are building and wanting to win
He is "in talk" with Borussia Dortmund
ReplyDeleteSuso and Coutinho play in different positions. There is no reason Suso could not play the role Gerrard plays right now. And yes Downing is British but that only goes when a bigger club buys from a smaller club. Seeing as we would find it hard enough to find someone to sign him and we'd probably have to rely on the likes of Stoke and West Ham, we'd be Lucky to get six million for him, let alone twelve. Downing is your typical hoof and run type winger. He couldn't get past a player if he wore a jetpack so all he can do is run into space with his head down and rely on other players, who actually have some skill, to not overhit the pass or play it in too late.
ReplyDeleteWhat mr POV said. Would be a good fit at Dortmund. If we don't, hope they get him as its somewhat sad seeing Gotze and most likely Lewandowski being sold from a team that is great to watch.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Isco too (re: someone mentioned Isco), instead of Eriksen but surely one of the clubs higher up the current food chain will snap him up, not us (but it not as if it will be that much easier to buy Eriksen either, for us).
I do see what some of the others are getting at, in terms of Coutinho's position but I think, with Suarez back, Coutinho will probably rotate between a narrow wide position and the slot behind the front man in the long run and maybe even the 3 behind Sturridge/Suarez will be a interchanging trio of attacking midfielders.
In terms of a trio of attacking midfielders, can't even imagine how good the 3 amigos at Chelsea will become as a trio in a more (well it is RA's club, so won't be that much 'more'!) stable environment next season.
Who on earth are those people you mentioned ??
ReplyDeleteNot a chance. He's off to Dortmund.
ReplyDeleteWhere he would play is Rodgers headache - I just want a strong squad.
ReplyDeleteHe is off elsewhere and i must say he may be a better player in Germany, a little over rated and wont light up the EPL.
ReplyDeleteHe always seemed more interested in going elsewhere than Liverpool i say 1 bullet dodged.
Add new 2 winger players.....Christian Eriksen and Tello with 1 more attacker,Henrikh Mkhitaryan.I sure LFC will become the best goal record for next season.
ReplyDeleteErikssen has a far greater pedigree than someone like Scott Sinclair...
ReplyDeleteAs good as Erikssen may be, I just don't think a player of his ilk should be a priority for LFC this summer. We need to strengthen the spine of the team as a priority, with a new GK, a strong CB, a strong DM/CM, and a strong, mobile centre-forward that complements Suarez, Sturridge & Coutinho.
ReplyDeleteAnything else would be a bonus, rather than an urgent necessity as the above are...
What I meant by that, was he will end up sitting on the bench. I was saying they are of similar ability.
ReplyDeleteJust within 21 days i was able to play for a club of my choice in Europe and all this happened through the help of a powerful spell caster called Dr.Ozama and his contact details are ozama.templofsoccer@yahoo.com or via mobile at +2348056934252 and within 21 days the club of choice will be begging you to play for them. This is not time to start doubting this comment rather it is time to start contacting Dr.Ozama
