Reports this week claim that Liverpool and Manchester United have reignited their interest in Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz, but if Gala President Unal Aysal has his way, both clubs may be priced out of a summer move for the prolific striker.
According to reports in Turkey, earlier this week, Liverpool and Manchester United are both eyeing summer bids for Yilmaz, who cost Galatasaray a mere €5m in July 2012.
Yilmaz has been linked with a move to Anfield several times over the last year, and in December 2012, Liverpool scouts visited Turkey to assess the striker, who has 21 goals in 26 games for the Turkish giants this season.
Clearly aware of the growing interest in Yilmaz, Aysal compared the striker with Radamel Falcao, and then slapped a ridiculously unrealistic transfer fee on the player. He told Sabah:
"We have not received any offers for Burak Yilmaz, but, of course, [the speculation] will mount as the end of the season nears closer. Burak is a very valuable star for us. If, however, we are talking about Falcao being worth €55 million, then my player is €40m."
Yilmaz goalscoring stats are, admittedly, excellent:
* 55 goals in 77 appearances in his two years at Trabzonspor.
* Last season, he broke Trabzonspor's all-time scoring record in the league.
* 21 goals in 26 games for Gala, including 7 in the Champions League.
* Higher goals-per-minute ratio than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Last month, Yilmaz appeared to pledge his allegiance to his current club. He told Reporters:
"I feel peaceful here. My club is in charge but I can say that I want to stay and succeed at Galatasaray."
Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim believes that Yilmaz is on upward curve and will only get better. He told Turkish newspaper Hurriyet:
“He [Yilmaz] is getting better every day. He is pressing, he is trying to make assists, making good runs. He could have scored more today. Burak will get even better.”
An argument could definitely be made for Yilmaz being worth that kind of money, but in reality, there's no way (IMO) any club - including Liverpool - will pay that much for him, especially when he only cost Galatasaray €5m.

Sell Suarez and we could have enough to sign him.
ReplyDeleteNo chance. He his playing in an inferior league. So its probably easier to score more.
ReplyDeleteor keep suarez and f"ck him;-)
ReplyDeleteStats do not always tell the full story, especially goal scoring stats. Fernando Torres was classed as one of the top three strikers in the world, his goal scoring stats at Liverpool were very good,Chelsea paid £50 million based on all this ....... the rest as they say is history!
ReplyDeletejaimie when you going to do a post about our debts what were not supposed to have,as everyone on here keeps telling me fsg paid them all off lol;-)
ReplyDeleteOr keep suarez and sign him too! He can play when Sturridge is injured!
ReplyDeletelol with our debts
ReplyDeleteThat is nothing to be concerned over as Ayre said it shows "... we are growing - we continue to grow." Which means we can sign anyone because according to Werner, we have the resources to compete with the best in the sport. We are just being careful with the process so that we continue to sign the best in the business.
ReplyDeleteOf course their chairman says that. What is he supposed to say? He's crap and you can have him for the market value of three Andy Carrols, ie, three bags of crisps and a sixpack? He'll go for anything close to 20 million. At most.
ReplyDeletelol wear did you read that
ReplyDeleteAh Id say 'big Andy' is worth a Kebab thrown in too :D
ReplyDeleteLol what makes them think they can charge €40m when they paid €5m? Thats an 800% increase in his price...£15m would be more then enough I think
ReplyDeleteHe'd probably eat it on his way to the bank
ReplyDeleteAre you telling me 160 million would be unreasonable for Stewart Downing?
ReplyDelete155 million is a fair deal I think ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat is interesting, is that all the fans who kept saying why arent we signing 30mil players, and slating fans who said we have to spend only what we earn by calling them names, along the lines of "not caring about winning" etc, can now see that actually FSG werent being tight at all.
ReplyDeletesold to the higgest bidder, the man at the back with the hat
ReplyDeletenot posotive just shows fsg are not the right people to own the club
ReplyDeletewhy not? I`m guessing you want to be a man city or Chelsea, as thats the only other type of owner Jason. You have three types
ReplyDelete1st: Takes money from club
2nd: Runs club from money club makes.
3rd: Puts in 1bil cash
We fit the second role, and slightly into the third, as the accounting shows FSG have put in about 40mil of there own, albeit in loans to club form themselves, but thats the same as Roman did.
the 2nd type is the perfect type, and with FFP and other things coming into play, the third is going to be a thing of the past, so I`m glad we have the 2nd type and not the 1st.
For the record, everyone who has gone on about FSG using Liverpool to take cash, this set of accounting proves them wrong. FSG actually put money into the club, not take out.
I`m glad we aren`t a Man City, or a Chelsea. Winning would not feel as sweet, knowing you didn`t really earn it. They are everything that is wrong with football, and im glad we aren`t apart of that problem.
Very true, however Torres hadn`t been playing well for the last 4months before being sold, and wasn`t scoring to many either, so with this guy the question would be, is he still scoring? I do agree stats don`t always tell the whole story. For me Stats are just one part of a much bigger picture. There is no denying he can score goals. Does that mean he will for us in the prem, who knows, like every transfer, its a gamble. 40mil is miles over the top. 12mil would be about right.
ReplyDeletelol the sad hing is we'd probably waste the money on dirt players......again....
ReplyDeleteyou lpst me after the second line when you tried to insinuate fsg were going to put any of there own money in
ReplyDeleteSo you didn`t read the finicial report then im taking it? As it showed FSG put in 40mil of there OWN money. You or I may not like that, but it is reported in print, and approved as true by HMRC. Are you suggesting Jason that HMRC got there accounts records wrong?
ReplyDeleteSo the accounting reports which showed they had put in 40mil, don`t count?
ReplyDeleteI did write a really nice long reply, but its disapeared lol. Second time today thats happened
you are completely wrong mate ... It is more dificult to score goal in an "inferior" league...
ReplyDeleteHow? Thats like saying its harder to dunk in basketball where you are a giant and everyone else is 3 foot tall.
ReplyDeleteIf you put Messi in a sunday league team, he would run rings around everyone.
You pome could not afford a star striker...
