Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel.
According to The Liverpool Echo and TMW, the Portuguese club - currently afflicted by financial problems - is ready to 'enter into negotiations' with Liverpool over a potential summer move for the Spaniard.
25-year Capel cost Sporting €3.5m in 2011, and although he has a ridiculously excessive €30m release clause in his contract, there's no way he'd go for anywhere approaching that amount.
Capel is not really a prolific goalscorer or provider, and his stats over the last few years show this:
- This season: 2 goals/1 assist in 19 apps.
- 2011-12: 5 goals/5 assists in 37 apps.
- 2010-11: 1 goals/2 assists in 34 apps.
- 2009-10: 3 goals/3 assists in 44 apps.
- 2008-09: 3 goals/1 assist in 43 apps
That's a pretty underwhelming creative return, and there are plenty of other players out there with better goals/assists ratios that the club could go for.
Sporting are beset with problems at the moment, and in February, the entire board resigned after just two years at helm of the struggling Portuguese club.
The club's financial problems mean that there could be a fire-sale at the end of the season, with the likes of Capel, and prolific striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel - another previous LFC target - sacrificed to bring in much-needed cash.
Capel would fit into Brendan Rodgers' preferred 433 formation, but is he good enough for LFC...?

Hes a gifted player, nice skills etc, and i would have said yes he is worth a bid, but after looking closer at his stats, i dont think we should go for him...
ReplyDeleteTBH, I can't see past Ince in the forward position reinforcements in the summer. I've also read today that Alonso has confirmed he won't renew his contract with Real Madrid, so I reckon a cheeky £10m bid for the master should be in order.
ReplyDelete30 million your having a laugh
ReplyDelete13 goals in 5-6yrs of football? he is not a Liverpool player
ReplyDeleteHe is very talented for sure!!!
ReplyDeletejust what we need ince plus papa to go with rogers,,,two egos to much no thanks
ReplyDeleteMore pony average players who would sign for a pay cheque. The fans want quality players. The best we can attract to take us to the next level.
ReplyDeletedefo one of the red herrings the club throws out there to get people off the scent...unless he's super cheap and a squad filler.
ReplyDeleteif rodgers messes up another summer of transfers, he'll be hard pushed to keep his job more than a further year without CL qualification imo. that means this next window needs to be nailed. people can harp on about DS and PC but tell me in a year or so and then maybe i'll listen. so far buck has not spent that wisely. i honestly think with diame and sissoko for under 10m, we'd have more muscle, guile and goal threat than we do after the 25m spent on allen and borini. throw in michu and kone or benteke and we would have more points on the board, without question.
Buck has been excellent with the kids, but poor to average in the TM.
DM, CB, LB,RB. We need. Not wingers.
ReplyDeleteI know that this is out of topic.... I just getting sick of it... Listen, KD has some positives and negatives.. BR also has some positives and negatives.. So get over it.. And start support LFC... Last season under KD, we performed well in the first half of the season, but our second half was labelled disaster.. And if i remember it right, our stats shows a "relegation form" in that second half.. This season jamie has provided us those stats.. We were awful in first half of the season, but in the second half since january, so far we are inthe "top4".. And that already include the games againts MU, MC, Arsenal and spurs... Last season none of our new signings played well except suarez.. This season, we can call borini and allen as a flop, althought i still hope both can be better.. But this season we also sign sturridge and coutinho.. So my points is, do we really need to keep argue about whos the best, kd or br.. One is past, one is present.. And we can only support the things in present.. So support your club please.. YNWA
ReplyDeleteI've tried to bring most of what you say across for quite a while now. Unfortunately to no avail. In a way I understand those who still long for Kenny and curse the day he was sacked including everyone who may or may not have had a hand in it, as well as everyone who was signed since (manager, players). Sticking to the past, though, doesn't really help us right now, but I, too, have to admit that I still curse the day Alonso was alienated. Maybe we should try to be a bit more understanding towards those who don't want to get over the sacking of Kenny.
ReplyDeleteNo thank you. He is in the same mould as Jefren, although has more experience. His record is awful. This summer is going to be a big one.
ReplyDeleteI expect Skrtel, Spearing, Wilson, Assaidi, Coates, Suso (loan) and possibly Borini to leave!
We must get good replacement and promote some of the young ones.
No end product - why waste money, even if he can come cheap?
ReplyDeletewhy was my post removed
ReplyDeleteWe will have plenty to spend Mr Carr
ReplyDeleteSaurez will be Mourinho's first signing at PSG.
Also Moyes is going to Chelsea and Martinez is replacing Moyes
Don't be surprised if Hendo and Downing are shipped out too mate.
ReplyDeleteif we sell suarez we can look forward to years in the wilderness sir bob
ReplyDeletemo we would be mad to get rid of wisdom unless i fantastic offer comes in one for the future without a doubt,i would also add allen andpepe if he whats to go and i also think they will ship suarez out as well
ReplyDeleteLOL I think you read Wilson as Wisdom. Wisdom I def want to keep. Future CB.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Carroll should be 1st on my list. I doubt we will get the reported £17-19M for him from West Ham doe. That would be as bad as when we bought him for £35M (faints).
ReplyDeleteHendo? Hmm I don't know he is a good back up player and Downing too. But they are on over 70K a week so yeah.
lol yes sorry my mistake;-)
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh.........Xabi.
ReplyDeleteNow those were the days.........:-)
Plenty to spend?
ReplyDeleteIf rumours are to be believed, this one player would take up our whole 20mil kitty.
If we sell Suarez then expect a worse season than this one.
A massive no from me. He's a head down and run player
ReplyDeleteIf we are buying from the Portugese league it should be James Rodriquez
ReplyDeleteIt isnt IF we sell Saurez its when!!
ReplyDeletewhy would we buy him when we have Assaidi warming the bench, a very capable player that is being wasted
ReplyDeletethanks for keeping me informed ,i think your right sir bob
ReplyDeleteAlonso was a big loss at the time but for some of you fans to blame that 1 sale to be the main blame for our recent poor seasons is a bit over the top .Thats it forever now because we dont have Alonso. In my opinion there is 1 main reason we have not been finishing in the top 4 in recent times and thats is because of the managers weve brought in.We have spent plenty of money so cant be that.Cant be bad luck as its not just 1 season of bad form.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you said. I didnt say that we shouldnt say or think or regret anything thas has happened in the past.. Im okay with it.. But i mean, this fans supposed to be liverpool fans right? They are not supposed to be like a broken record and said how good tha last manager was, how bad our new manager is, with NO BALANCE at all, in EVERY SINGLE OPPORTUNITY and refuse to give the new manager a chance or a little support, just because their "lovely" manager been replaced with the new one. And dont get me wrong, i love kd.. if he still our manager, i will support him and judge him fairly
ReplyDeleteIMO it would be a disgrace if we sold those two, but I wouldn't bet against it because of Rodgers and his preferred players and signings.
