Transfer Risk? LFC makes enquiries about €8m wing-star.

In January, Newcastle United winger Hatem Ben Arfa revealed that he is 'interested Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool', and according to reports this week, the France international's interest is reciprocated by the Reds.

A report on ESPN today states:

"Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is a keen admirer of the 25-year-old and has made enquiries about securing his services".

At the height of Newcastle's recent poor run of form, Ben Arfa - who cost Newcastle £6m - dispensed with any kind of subtlety and seemingly made the the following 'come and get me plea':

"I am interested in Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Today, these clubs are above Newcastle. My goal is to stay in England"

You don't get more blatant than that! Liverpool have been linked with Ben Arfa several times in the past, and although his comment is classless in the extreme (just imagine if, say, Downing or Henderson said something similar), there would seem to be an opportunity here for Liverpool.

A hamstring injury has kept Ben Arfa out of the team since early December, but he is fit again now, and before he leaves for a new club, his main goal is to try and save Newcastle from relegation. Ben Arfa told The Daily Mail:

"First [before leaving], I must save my club. I only think of that. I will help my team and my coach, with whom I get along great. We really want to fight for him. The fans are great too"

Given his injury history, is Ben Arfa a player Liverpool should pursue?

  1. Haha dream on liverfool never in million years, Man U Chelsea man c ok but u r a million miles from being a good team, and like Ben Arfa says today he can win things with newcastle as we r going places, with the new players comin in and more in summer, Liverpool players will be wantin to come to le toon

    ReplyDelete
  2. Think you need to get the story right my friend. It was a total misinterpretation  of what he really said. If Liverpool have a spare 25 million quid knocking about then go for it!!

    ReplyDelete
  3. nice way to cherry pick articles and quotes
obviously havent seen todays articles where wor benny waxes lyrical about the toon and how he can fulfil his ambitions and win silverware here
    jog on

    ReplyDelete
  4. Your deluded, all your club is buy players cheap and sell high, your a selling club, also if we offered Ben arfa double his wages he would jump, just like erinque and Carroll did.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yeah we're just going to hand HBA over to Liverpool after we took 35m off you for Carroll, lol Have a word. He'll be with us next season at the least but let's be honest why would he want to move to Liverpool? He'll go to someone like PSG or someone whose going to challenge for titles.

    ReplyDelete
  6. As for the Ben Arfa "quotes" they were made 3 months ago, new quotes from the man himself today sayin I love it here with the new players we are geared up to win things with THIS club, that sounds like a man that wants to leave, but if ya hav another 35 MILLION quid who am I to argue haha

    ReplyDelete
  7. Liverpool have got no chance. You should really check your faxts as to what was really said in his interview with the french jornalist.

    ReplyDelete
  8. i dont want him ...thinks hes the best thing since sliced bread....plus we dont want to sign anymore low level players from low level teams

    ReplyDelete
  9. Haha all the butt hurt Newcastle fans coming on here, look at the end of the day Newcastle are nothing more then a mid table club who over performed last year,Liverpool will always have an appeal to it one more so then Newcastle and if someone says otherwise they're deluded,YEs we may not be able to attract the very best at the moment but Ben arfa hell yes,Hell he even said it himself so clearly he sees Liverpool as a step up (which it clearly is),Id like to see him come Perhaps Ben Arfa and £10m for Carroll?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yeah nice one. Give us another 35 mill like you did for   Carol ( good business? ) and we will keep making our club financially secure as well as get more talent. You just keep flashing the cash and stay in that fouth rate stadium.

    ReplyDelete
  11. win silverware, you have never won any silverware before so what make you think you can win any now, wake up

    ReplyDelete
  12. There aren't many more dislikeable clubs around than Liverpool, awful shower

    ReplyDelete
  13. You won't get 35 million again, keep wishing mate! And all the big clubs will pick players from your team, also that stadium? Which is well known round the world for the atmosphere, which is going to increase from 45 to 60 thousand.... Be amazing ;)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Never mind trying to sign HBA, you'll have to cover Suarez when he ups and leaves in the summer to play champions league football in either Spain or Germany for Bayern Munich ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Also it's "carroll" can't even spell a home grown players name.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wishful thinking from your part. But not going to happen. We haven't got owners who sell out best players like yours, (erinque,Carroll,BA,Nolan,Barton)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Only if some decent away fans attend.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Haha keep writing rubbish mate! players around the world want to play infront of us, because we are passionate, not like your thickel fans who get happy having 11 French players into there team! Might aswell go apply to play in French football lol.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hahaha £10m and Ben Arfa for Carroll? Do you have any idea about football or life?  I'm not gonna say we are a big club, but Liverpool arent as big as they used to be anymore. Your already out of Europe, you have a decent manager now, but your club not as finicially stable as ours. Plus anyone who says we are a selling club...All the players we have sold over the last few years, we have replaced with better players, for a lot less money, because we have the best scout in the league... If i were to be a deluded fan like you, seeing we sold Andy Carroll for £35m, then you can have Ben Arfa for £80m but I'll knock off £5m and you can keep Carroll as he is shite. But I'm not... But one thing is for sure, we won't sell Ben Arfa for less then £20m, no chance. Get a grip of reality kiddy

  20. Nouveau Château United=pas d'ambition

Quote from Alain Pardeux: "er we will certanly look to buy as many bargains as possible for maximum de profit. Michel Ushley will reward oos with what le Anglais call knock off track suits!"

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not one of those players is on the same level as Cabaye, Sissoko, Ben Arfa, Krul or Colocinni... Try again

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'd be the first to criticise Ashley, he's always on the look out for a sale so there's always that risk with him as owner. You'd have to pay through the nose for HBA though, quite literally. Won't get him and similarly with the arrival of Sissoko, Gouffran, Debuchy and Mbiwa unless his boyhood club PSG come in for him or the top clubs in the prem like City, Man U or Chelsea I can't see him moving.

If you don't get champions league this season you might find yourselves in a struggle to keep some of your own players let alone trying to poach others ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. We got knocked out on away goals against a CL club? Who spent 80million on two players and a decent side, not really bad for a club who is rebuilding is it? Nah we done well. Also we are spending what we make? I would put that down as stable.also "best scouts in the league" no you just pick French players up for cheap money hardly best scouts, also you can keep Ben arfa he goes from good to shocking then good again. Not consistent.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Collocinni is going in the summer you do know that don't you? also krul is a good keeper keep him in the shop window. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Awh Unlucky, quite a good excuse... Well we are not a silly club that over spends on shite english players (Carroll, Henderson, Downing) so might as well tap the french market.. And guess what, we have bought some quality players as well. Sissoko... Wow!! Thanks for coming!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh yeah Colocinni is going for personal reasons... Makes us a selling club! Plus we have Mwbia who is gonna be better anyway... Yeah i know, he is great keeper, cant see him going to you though. Would be unfair on Reina, he has been a good juggler for you in the past

    ReplyDelete
  27. Henderson and downing have scored more than Ben arfa ain't you a clever boy. Carroll was never going to suit our style he off for 19 million to west ham so I don't care. We are under Rodgers and his team which have brought good players in coutinho, sturridge, and good point he is a good player :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Newcastle will never be a top team, keep on letting your best players leave, its like a revolving door in out in out, Ashley must love it

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hahaha where are you getting that Information from! Is that whilst Ben Arfa has been out most of the season? Your club is going in the right direction and I like Rodgers, good manager. But i cant stand thickle fans that think Newcastle are a tiny club compared to Liverpool..

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nope just saying he a good player who leaving? Also mwbia who player what half a game for you? Can't really judge him from that.... He did sturridge against lambert against soton. Also reina he a good keeper showed against zenit he has great reflexes, I rather have reina over krul anyway. Personal opinion

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hendo and downing have scored more? Check for yourself. Also if you see hendo and downing were left out in the cold for start of the season.... And I'm not saying are a tiny club because that would be a bold statement....and a unfair one.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mwbia has played a both games in Europe and looked really good, plus i have seen him for Montpellier and France. I wouldnt have 100% trust in Reina though, comes up with some Howlers, never seen that happen with Krul.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The only people that thinks Suarez will leave us in the summer are the press and fans like u that hate Liverpool. Suarez isn't going to leave he's already said a million times in the last 8 weeks or so that he's very happy at Liverpool and want's to stay for many years and that his family are very happy in Liverpool.
As for Newcastle when was the last time they won something? Liverpool will always be a bigger and better club than them and yes in the last few years we haven't been doing well and we might not get the best players now but we are on our way up and within the next few years we will be back in the Champions League and challenging for the title again.

Newcastle finishing above us last season was a one off, it won't ever happen again.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If that's true then good, I've seen him in French football looked good not for Newcastle yet, and yeah reina does have moments which would be put down to not having people pushing him for number 1 spot, also hasn't krul made a mistake this season? I'm sure he did but I might be mistaken :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. If our scouts are just picking random cheap players from France then why are our transfers and system the envy of the league? Yes we're currently in a poor position but are rapidly climbing as a result of quality players. Ben Arfa is class and if you knew anything about football (you wouldn't be a Liverpool fan) you would know that. Suarez is your only consistently good player. You talk about zenit spending 80m on two players, at least they are decent, you've spent over a hundred million and only got one good player as a result.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Downing has made triple the amount of appearances and scored the same. Therefore your arguement is void. Plus if you look at Ben Arfa's goals, they are all screamers.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Downing has scored screamers to? Left foot and right.... But downing may be sold in the summer. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. To Liverpool?? LOL Sorry but NO CHANCE. Only a title challenging team like Man City or Real Madrid would tempt him leaving. King Benny is here to stay a while longer :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Any transfer is risky due to injuries. You could sign someone who has never had an injury, and then they get injured for a year on their debut. Or you could sign someone who has a record of injury and they turn out fine. Im thinking RVP here, he had his injury problems at Arsenal, but seems to be ok at Utd.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Haha i really hope your not comparing Ben Arfa's goals against Bolton, Blackburn, Villa and Fulham, otherwise i might commit.. Not sure you'd have a buyer

    ReplyDelete
  41. Why would anyone envy them? You just buy gambles which may or may not pay off.... If you think he class then good for you but he hardly consistent, also he attitude stinks. Also your wrong again we've scored 49 goals in the prem 17 which from Suarez, he a good player but now we have sturridge to help him out on his goal ratio. And gerrard? Lucas sitting in midfield? And hendo who scoring and assisting so right a better comment next time :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. You skirt over the Ashley issue as if it was no big deal, when actually it's the white elephant in the room. There is no clear plan abt where you're heading. Ashley = mercenary which means profit will always take precedence over progress!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I haven't seen them? But you should check downing goal against sambas old side :) good pick, even against Gomel but I ain't comparing them as players.

    ReplyDelete
  44. henderson, downing, carroll, you call that good transfer deals ? liverpool were a great team one time and i used to love watching them but nowadays they are not in the top 5 of the epl and they are a long way off it too just like ourselves, we,re both in the second tier of it so why would hba want to move on when he,s got 1/2 the french national team round him here ? think about it , psg is the only team he,ll move too

    ReplyDelete
  45. 8 million euro wouldnt buy his left foot. as far as im concerned ben arfa has a price for everyone....................but double it for liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Henderson is awful, please stop mentioning him. I feel offended. Go watch those goals from Ben Arfa then come back, if you can close your jaw. How you can say we buy gambles is beyond me...Every player we sign is class. Cabaye shits on Lucas as well. Gerrard and Suarez are the only world class players you have. Sturridge is decent, not sure he will ever make it to the top though. Plus gerrard is coming to the end and despite what you thickle fans say, if Munich, Barca or Madrid came calling, well then Bye Suarez!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. How is hendo awful? He is 22 came from Sunderland young age now he growing as a player, under 21 captain and will become to be a regular I'm England squad, "every player we sign are class" ok lol... If you think that and you wish Suarez goes:):)

    ReplyDelete
  48. "Second tier" we are in top half? Also 3 points off 6th place, not bad aye, we will close the gap in the coming years.

    ReplyDelete
  49. No way! Jamie. Like you said his comment is classless to say the least and his opportunism will probably shock Genghis Khan. We need players who at least are little committed to their club and not looking to jump ship. Plus his injury record is not that great.

    ReplyDelete
  50. he is a good player, but I dont really want him. I read we might be looking at Turan again, which would be the exact player I want, he would be costly, and unlikely but if we pulled that off, happy days

    ReplyDelete
  51. I really dont know why everyone brings back the whole Carroll cost £35m so this player will cost £80m,Liverpool are NEVER going to do something like that again, and Blame Comolli and partly Kenny for their catastrophic mistakes, they're gone so stupid deals like that aren't going to happen m8,Ben Arfa is worth no more then 10-12 Million sorry I know you wont like to hear that but its in all seriousness most likely his value

    ReplyDelete
  52. never in a million years  would this happen liverpool are not a club to win thing anymore  any  that wants benny can start the bidding at 25 million

    ReplyDelete
  53. just in newcastle put bid in for suarez liverpool top selling club lets start this one off

    ReplyDelete
  54. Josh Ill be honest dont be completely certain Suarez will stay,Im praying he will but in all honesty if the likes of Barca or madria came in for an offer of the likes of 40-50 million Id say the club would take it and Suarez would go,I wouldnt blame him either

    ReplyDelete
  55. And tell me why is that exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  56. How can someone whos 'Awful' be captain of the England u21's? Your comment makes no sence plus you've no Idea what you're talking about Hendo has been good this year

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sorry, but Liverpool would never get him, let alone for just £8M; Are you mad?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Liverpool are no longer the soft touch that clubs try to milk out every last drop before making a deal,The Dempsey and Ince deals are proof of it

    ReplyDelete
  59. Haha where is Newcastle going to get £40-50 million from? :P Dream on mate

    ReplyDelete
  60. Is this a Newcastle forum now?

Anyway, back on topic. As a Liverpool fan, would I like BR to sign Ben Arfa in the summer for £8m? No. We'll get Tom Ince for that. Maybe not have as much trickery but he's only 20 and is a bigger, stronger and pacier player, who isn't prone to injuries.

So, Toon fans, keep your hair on, fellas, he won't be coming to Anfield.

And, for the record, I have a lot of Geordie mates and Newcastle is my second team; so I won't be joining in any of the childish name calling ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Neil O' reilly, '£10m and Ben Arfa for Carroll' - That is the best joke i've heard in years

    ReplyDelete
  62. im curious have newcastle ever won anything i cant be bothered going on wikipedia

    ReplyDelete
  63. GET THE FACTS RIGHT LIVERPOOL TOLD CHELSEA THEY WANTED 15MILLION AND CARROLL FOR TORRES .ROMAN PAYED THE MONEY NOT US AND THE7 MILLION WE GOT FOR BABBEL WE SIGNED LUIS WITH THE SPARE 15 MILLION PLUS THE 7MILL. OR SILVER POLISH!!!!! U SHOULD CHOP YOUR POSTIN NAME IN HALF IN ANOTHER 6 YEARS IT WILL BE HALF A CENTURY SINCE UR LAST TROPHY!!!! 1969 FAIRS CUP THATS SOME HISTORY U GOT THERE MATE.

    ReplyDelete
  64. FU"K ME I DIDN T REALISE THEY HAD  ELECTRIC IN NEWCASTLE NEVER MIND LAPTOPS !!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yep you right cos Liverpool never sold anyone.........Torres, Alonzo, Mascherano!!! Enrique & Carroll jumped?? Some jump putting £41 million into the Toon's bank account.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Not suprised you don't want to sign anymore low level players mate ..........you've already got a team full!!!LOL

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yep you're such a big team...............have you put your passport away somewhere safe? Don't bothe mate, you won't be needing it for a long time!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. 3 players? So? Haha nd we only gave u 5 mil for erinque and that's a coup he a great LB he even scored more now than he did for you! Thanks!;)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yep Ben Arfa isn't consistent..................unlike Henderson, Downing, Allen, Borini? Need I go on??

    ReplyDelete
  70. It's not he - he class, he hardly consistent, he attitude stinks. WTF he's class, he's hardly...his attitude. Also your wrong?? NO Also you are wrong which when abreviated is you're.

Get off your computer mate and get back to school........the big building with fields around and lots of kids, you obvoiusly missed it the first time around!

    ReplyDelete
  71. This ^^^^ is direct from Kenny Dalglish's updated autobiography but the Suarez deal was going through without the Torres sale. He was bought to play along side him, much like Sturridge is (successfully) doing right now.

    ReplyDelete
  72. So stupid deals like that won't happen again.......are you serious?? Jo Allen £15 million / Borini £12 million....I rest my case. Honestly if Allen is worth £15 million then HBA is worth £45 million. He be bacjk when you come to SJP in April Watch Ben Arfa and weep!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Crap comment m8 try again...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Torres - £50m
    Alonso - £30m
    Mascherano - £20m

Not bad for 3 players, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  75. You seen your team in the league? Them are 8th in league 3 points off 6. Must be doing something right. Keep looking up;)

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yawn... He class when on form but he inconsistent, he also has poor attitude doesn't get a rocket science to get to know my comment you moron.

    ReplyDelete
  77. You for real? My comment is understandable, he class when on form, but he is inconsistent, and has poor attitude don't act smart you just look a fool.

    ReplyDelete
  78. My comment is understandable, he class when on form, but he too inconsistent, also I don't need a English lesson.... Also who said I'm on a computer, so walk on :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Enrique, Carroll, Barton, Nolan & Ba were not our best players. Ask any Toon fan. Our best player is Ben Arfa, followed by Cabaye and last year Collo, Tiote & Krul. Ba scored great goals but everything had to go to him which was how it was when we had Carroll. We look so much more balanced now with Cisse on his own and the new lads Gouffran and Sissoko backing up

    ReplyDelete
  80. Isn't it your bedtime? Mummy will get angry! Quick hurry! Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  81. "Long time" lol if it going to be a long time for us then for you? It be until you've gone. We just need 6th place in the league then sorted.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ah that lovable Scouser wit, so razor sharp it's making my belly ache

    ReplyDelete
  83. Oh your comments to that comment, I said if YOU think he class then good for you, then I called him inconsistent and has poor attitude, read up. At least put thought into your comment.

    ReplyDelete
  84. i know that mate torres jumped ship on the last day of the window i was explaining the sums to a thick geordie and how the deals worked out

  86. i know that mate torres jumped ship on the last day of the window i was explaining the sums to a thick geordie and how the deals worked out

    ReplyDelete
  87. Quite simple really - you live in the past, still consider your team to be world beaters - hell you're not even the top team in your own city!
Liverpool fans need to wake up and realize that your expectations (of title challenges etc) are unrealistic and quite possibly it's that pressure that hinders your players.
Please stop living in the past - it's boring and predictable - much like your team.

    ReplyDelete
  88. talking about bellies whats this all about standing on a cold winters nite at the match with no shirts on big fat ned kellys on show full of newkie brown ? why? its not right its just plain f"ckin stupid! wots all that about????? and were suppose to take geordies serious?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Challenging for what title exactly? I don't recall Liverpool coming close to winning the PL..

    ReplyDelete
  90. You ask one fan from another club if they would have Henderson and they would piss themselves. Kids shit. Ben Arfa is worth more than £12m, you clearly have no idea. Even if he was worth £12m, he wouldn't be sold for less than £25m. So come back when you have a valid arguement kiddy!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Apparently Liverpool wanna sign Mike Williamson for £50m

    ReplyDelete
  92. It tickled me too

    ReplyDelete
  93. Henderson who was tracked by Chelsea?united and city? Yep who was only 20 then we brought him at 21, look at his goal and assit ratio in prem and Europe, he growing as a player, you wouldn't know about English talents you don't have any. I don't care about Ben arfa I don't want him, he a big player in a small pond just like Adam who we signed from Blackpool. No thanks

    ReplyDelete
  94. Haha your clutching at straws kid. Henderson is garbage, he has about 3 assists and 3 goals. Yet has played over 30 appearances. Thats the end of that arguement. When we finish above you next season I'll have the last laugh thanks

    ReplyDelete
  95. It's facts, and yep for a 22 yearold will only get better;-), and loool yeah okay? Your French players will off again like every season you lose players, keep looking up lad!:) how's pardew 6 year contract? That was a good laugh reading it haha.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Still higher than your team hahaha!! Also second in our city? Get a grip lad, after one season they finished ahead of us, and now only 3 points ahead of with city, arsenal,Chelsea, spurs and us to play, there crumbling already with the pressure there on.

    ReplyDelete
  97. He crap and poor joke because we won't over pay for players :)

    ReplyDelete
  98. As a neutral I think Ben Arfa might be wise to stay put and help with the steady rebuilding of Newcastle. All the bickering above about who's the best club etc is silly as obviously people are going to defend their own club. I've spent time in both Liverpool and Newcastle and the fans are similar in certain ways, possibly the 2 most passionate sets of fans in the country. The fact of the matter is Liverpool are 10/50/100 whatever times the club Newcastle are because of what they've won in the past but Newcastle have the POTENTIAL to be bigger than Liverpool could ever be. Liverpool fans might not like to hear that but it's the truth, at the end of the day Newcastle is a one club city and already play infront of about 8000 more than Liverpool without winning anything at all for god knows how long. Liverpool fans must face up to the fact that it's all history and in reality they're not currently one of the big boys. As for players choosing between the 2 it depends on being dazzled by history and the famous kop or wanting to make history with Newcastle.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Too injury prone so not a good gamble to sign him. Unless he can play through a season without long term injuries like RVP did last season, to 'prove' that his problems are sort of behind him.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Possibly the most sensible post on here tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  101. It isn't, if fees win games but the thing which shows your club is on the slide is who you replaced them with. Equal quality or better? Oh no, it was Carroll, Henderson and Allen. European teams are collectively trembling. Hold on, that's them laughing. Aye, we might be sh1t but if your manager said that 15m for Allen was a bargain and he would have paid more, then surely Ben Arfa is worth 10 times what Allen is? What's Joe Allen ever done? Fat Mike will have a price on Ben Arfa, I can bet it's more than the 15m for Allen, therefore much more than the 8 million EUROS(!) this ridiculous article claims. And WE'RE supposed to be deluded?

    ReplyDelete
  102. gilstrap you stick to your joe allens, jordan hendersons and fabio borinis and we'll keep Hatem Ben Arfa.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Are you saying it shows quality just by being U21 captain? Or are you saying England are so good that he hasn't got a look in so has to stay with the U21s? Wow. Do you not think a lad who is as good as you think would be in the full England team, especially if he went to you lot for 20 million? I'm sure he's older than Wilshere, who's going to be England's lynchpin for years to come, not Jordan frigging Henderson! Finally, you can't say someone makes no sense if you spell sense as 'sence'! Please don't reproduce.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yes Newcastle are going straight back to the championship. When was the last time you won something? Better yet when was the last time you were in a final? Better yet when was the last time you qualified for champions league? I rest my case. Even when liverpool is having the worst season in history it's still better than Newcastle ahahahha. Liverpool>>Newcastle...always will be.

    ReplyDelete
  105. So they ARE ahead of you then? I know this conversation lark is hard for you to grasp but you just admitted you were second in your city. Not the past, not if they might crumble in the future. He meant NOW. You get that?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yes we've never won silverware ever. Football started in the 70s and 80s when liverpool got good and attracted all their hanger-on fan boys who only liked them 'because they won' and the same fans hide behind that success to abuse fans of other clubs. Stay classy liverpool, you defend people like Suarez and think it's OK so there's no reasoning with you.

    ReplyDelete
  107. With all due respect Newcastle ARE a tiny club compared to Liverpool. In terms of history, fan base, trophys etc only Man Utd can really compare. Sure we are not at the level we were a few years ago but even just last year we won the league cup which most Newcastle fans would give their right arm to win..and that's us in a period of 'crisis'!you can say we are deluded but you had 1 good season last season..you were in the Championship not long ago..get a grip

    ReplyDelete
  108. Talking of league positions where exactly are Newcastle?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Krul can't even grasp the basics like kicking. He is one of the worst keepers at distribution in the league. He's a decent shot stopper but he's had one good season. Reina has won the golden gloves many times.

    ReplyDelete
  110. ahead of us by 3 points which is nothing, try again but harder on your point. dipstick!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Haha at the end of the day your the poor kid who has supports a team consisting of Henderson and Downing pushing for first team places...God help you

    ReplyDelete
  112. Shit not the golden glove.

    ReplyDelete
  113. So? Then we have Johnson agger, erinque, gerrard, lucas, sturridge, coutinho,Suarez do i need to go on ? our team is better, we have finanaces to make it evem better.who are all good players to watch, try again, your points are weak. Your team has perch? Simpson? Crap players :), least them two players you've named have won something unlike your poor players shame.

    ReplyDelete
  114. No and we won't sign any french players...(Contradiction)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Joe Allen starts the attack you complete dipstick, also he scored 2 goals..... And he 22 and settling into a new team all good.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Hahahaha and here comes the most delusional fan yet! (Shock he is scouse) Championship? Have you been alive the last month? Is everything that comes out your mouth utter tripe?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Your getting slightly boring.... Keep to your French players, sure they will go off to big clubs after :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Well Simpson and Perch aren't first choice so sit down again...Thefinance side is also bullshit as we have no debt at all... You just keep throwing up such awful arguementsboy! If you offered me the whole liverpool team I'd only take Gerrard, Agger and Suarez. Wouldnt touch the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Are you saying we don't have money to buy players? Saying you feel sorry for me for watching players like hendo and downing, well least I've seen my team win proper trophys. And are defence is better than yours and midfield and strikers and keeper. but keep your arguments and go onto a Newcastle site bye :)

    ReplyDelete
  120. deluded ... liverpool are in front of u player and football wise .. next year with the addition of new signings were be challenging for major honours .. newcastle will not. simple

    ReplyDelete
  121. our aim every season is the CL so we can try and win it for the 6th time. your aim is not the champions lge but to avoid the championship your club is a yo yo club. and when sports direct pull the plug that will happen u are just a cash cow for ashby and to put pardew on an 8 year contract well we all no the reason for that he is in that much debt to the casinos that are owned by ashby its the only way he will get his money back its the worst kept secrect in football

    ReplyDelete
  122. He is right, you will keep selling your players then the French football will get investment then where will you get cheap players from?:) let's be honest you got beat to a player by QPR doesn't say much about your team.....:)

    ReplyDelete
  123. LFC are having a great season, 7th is much higher than anyone thought they would be, with basically no injuries all season to their best players they have been able to far exceed expectations

    ReplyDelete
  124. Ben Arfa wont be going to Liverpool but IF Ben Arfa was sold it would be for a lot more than £8million. Considering how much Liverpool have paid for Mediocre players like Allen, Downing, Borini and Henderson I think they should expect to pay £20 million minimum for Ben Arfa and then Newcastle will go buy 3 more players that make us stronger overal without him for around £10-15 million combined.

As for Newcastle being a selling club... Well i'm happy being a selling club if it means we make ridiculous money on average players like Carroll and replace them with quality like Sissoko, Cabaye, Ben Arfa etc (whos combined price was less than a third of what you wasted on Carroll and even less than you spent on Downing, Henderson etc individually).

Can Liverpool really say that Allen, Downing, Henderson and Borini are better players than Alonso, Mascherano or Torres (when he was at Liverpool)? Nope. You sell your better players and spend all the money and more on worse players while Newcastle occasionally sell a good player for far more than they are worth (unless they are going out of contract or have a release clause) and replace them with better players. We aren't missing Ba btw... The TEAM  is better and match form is better since he left.

Lets stop talking about Ben Arfa joining Liverpool and start talking about who Suarez will leave you for when you fail to get anywhere near the champions league places again next season (and you know that is what is going to happen).

    ReplyDelete
  125. If Hendo was U21 Captain of France, the dirty Geordies would be all over him like piss on the tyne. Fact of the matter is we are performing better than you in the league. and that is with henderson, downing, allen, and all the other 'sub-par players'. Get used to it. Id rather Ben Arfa play his 4 games a season in black and white rather than clog up our injury table. Keep financing the French FA and try not to get yourselves relegated.... AGAIN!

    ReplyDelete
  126. You defended Joey Barton when he was in the Toon... He stabbed people, Suarez calls someone a common name... Go figure. Dont make me list our silverware next to yours, wee club.

    ReplyDelete
  127. yes I stood by suarez and rightly so, the lad didn't understand what the hell had happened, he had only just moved to Liverpool couldent understand a word of English and then straight into the man u game where savy evra started crying because he couldent handle suarez, just like colo couldent up at your place, so yes I stood by him

    ReplyDelete
  128. At BPL Hartem Ben Arfa is the greatest best dribbling football player but the weakness is he is always get injured. It is realy too risk for LFC if try to get him next season. Why not LFC try to get Thomas Mueller or Siem De Jong???Both of this 2 players is very prove that they high class quality attacker on the making. We needed to buy and polishing ver well.

    ReplyDelete
  129. for gods sake how can you say your team is balanced they have only played a couple of times together and all of a sudden your world beaters again, but must admit I do like cicce and sissoko looks handy, tiote is a liability collo has lost it ben arfa will always get hamstring pulls just like owen did, still plenty to do but Ashley is like a used car sales man if he can make a few quid profit he will

    ReplyDelete
  130. The first Newcastle player we should pursue imo is Johan Cabaye. Ben Arfa would offer competition for places but Cabaye is a player who would fill a gap in our starting 11.

    ReplyDelete
  131. they won the championship a few years ago didnt they? but then ofcourse so did reading and qpr.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Sturridge is only decent? he has nearly scored the same as Cisse in like 5 games.
Also Ben Arfa has played like a dozen games this season, and like 45 in 2 and a half years.
Not really getting the most out of him

    ReplyDelete
  133. i think newcastle would consider their best players to be which ever ones actually stay

    ReplyDelete
  134. and i have to say im pretty please spurs came in and pipped us on two of our targets as they are not exactly lighting the world on fire

    ReplyDelete
  135. Why would we want the ever-injured Ben Arfa when we just signed coutihno?
Younger, Healthier and Much more potential, Also he's started one game and scored a third of the goals Ben Arfa has all season! at this rate in 2 weeks he'll have caught up.
NO THANK YOU TO BEN ARFA!

    ReplyDelete
  136. incorrect, we have quite a few consistent players... Johnson, Gerrard, Sturridge, Lucas, Henderson, Enrique (Ha!)...

Mostly local boys as well. What of the homegrown regulations? What will Newcastle do then?
Look, I really like Newcastle as a team, play some nice football and had a potent strike force in Cisse and Ba et al...But Liverpool beat Newcastle on every level: History, League position, academy, recent trophies, and perhaps even on entertainment value...But you have to respect any club in the EPL because any team can beat any team on their day...

    ReplyDelete
  137. We make good signings... there's no doubt, just not all of them can carry the burden of the badge... the pressures are different at Liverpool.

Look at the ex liverpools doing good! Adam, Kuyt, Alonso, Mascherano (actually gets game time in that behemoth of a team), aquilani (does great in italy, but not at Pool), Emiliano Ensua, RAul Mereiles, Tom Ince (academy), Jay Spearing (academy), David Amoo (acadamy), YOssi Benayoun, Maxi Rodriguez...

There some not so good signings but that was mostly down to Uncle Wroy... can be forgiven

    ReplyDelete
  138. After the debacle of the Hicks & Gillett tenure, the cllub has, almost, had to rebuild from the ground up. The fact that we were a day away from going into administration compared to where we are now is nothing short of miraculous.
Ashley has hawked NUFC for a number of years now and, this last transfer window, is only just showing the (very loyal) fans the kind of dealings they expect from a club of Newcastle's stature. Remember, this is your 2nd year  back in the top flight after being relegated - something, IMH, that should never have happened to NUFC. This is Liverpool's 50th consecutive season in the top flight and we're still the record holders in English football with the most trophies won (41).
I would disagree that we're 'on the slide' as you put it. I think we've had that slide and, as we're the top league scorers this calender year (18), I'd say that we're heading back up.
A few astute signings in the summer, keeping hold of Suarez and making sure Sturridge & Gerrard stay fit and we'll put in a decent push next season.

  139. Whilst I admire your diplomacy, I'd like to draw your attention to the link below. It lists the top 20 richest football clubs in the world. I'll let you make your own mind up from it but the facts don't lie: Liverpool are 9th, Newcastle are 20th.

  140. Just making a point.while he has gone off the boil in recent times he has real pedigree. Not just one season. Notice how you didn't argue at what a poor distributor Krul is though ;) and if you want to turn your nose up at golden glove he's actually won silverware as well..something Newcastle can only dream of...get your head out of the culouds lad ;)

    ReplyDelete
  141. I think e 8 million euros is reference to what he cost Newcastle not his value now...and he's a good player but forever on the injury table so I wouldn't even want him :)

    ReplyDelete
  142. Joke all you like about the Carroll deal but I know for a fact you couldn't steal one of our top players and a local lad at that! No matter how much was on offer!

    ReplyDelete
  143. 8 million refers to what Newcastle bought him for I'm sure..and while he is a very talented player he's always injured and he's not worth anywhere near what you think he is

    ReplyDelete
  144. That makes no sense!i agree on Newcastle having passionate support but in what way do they have the potential to be bigger than Liverpool? We've also won trophies recently its not as if we haven't won a trophy in over 50 years!;) Even with a smaller stadium our revenue still dwarfs that of Newcastle, are 9 points currently behind us in the league even with us in transition..I'd love to know where the potential is..enlighten me

    ReplyDelete
  145. You keep HBA he is injury prone over rated crap like the rest of relegation bound Newcastle.
Good thing you have been to the championship recently u will not be shocked by it.
Maybe then Sissoko can come for what u paid for him the rest i wouldnt touch.

    ReplyDelete
  146. dont know what everyone getting worked up about 99% of these tranfers  rumors arent true

    ReplyDelete
  147. I think that might be the point. If we had won everything you had won then the sky is the limit, whereas Liverpool have been there and done it yet they are still only where they are. In the 90s when we were doing alright and got in the Champions League a couple of times we were 5th on that list. Make no mistake, if in my wildest la la dreamland, NUFC won just half the league championships that liverpool have and a few Champions Leagues to boot then we'd be in at least the top 5 of that rich list again. I'm not sure what's holding Liverpool back? Hope Benny stays though, he's magic. Just needs to stay fit

    ReplyDelete
  148. Who that to.....???

    ReplyDelete
  149. lol just make this clear in your lit head mate.. we are liverpool! there's a big big difference between us and you. you are just a simple team in england.. no need to make the comparaisons and list the diiferences, coz deep inside you, you know the reality. and concerning the stadium.. you also know about that.. we are one among the best in europe. the world says so. so plz shut up

    ReplyDelete
  150. completely agree with you.. lol thats sounds funny 'EVEN WHEN LIVERPOOL IS HAVING THE WORST SEASON IN HISTORY ITS STILL BETTER THAN NEWCASTLE', but thats the reality!

    ReplyDelete
  151. More potential from the point of view of a player looking to play in a big stadium infront of big crowds. I suppose any club has the potential to win trophies, but not all would become true giants as is the case with Liverpool. (I'm talking Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man U). Wigan for example could start winning things but I don't believe they'd ever play in a 70 or 80,000 capacity stadium and become a giant.

Liverpool are one of the most successful, most famous clubs in the world with huge commercial appeal but they still play to less than Arsenal and Newcastle. We have won jack shit. We're nothing compared to Liverpool but we already have a 52,000 capacity stadium, attract relatively big name players and are the 20th richest club in the world. All from winning absolutely nothing. Imagine adding liverpool style success to that foundation. That's What I mean by potential.

    ReplyDelete

  153. We ARE LIVERPOOL.. ONE OF FOOTBALLS GREATEST CLUB.. Newcastle is just well known in uk and france whereas liverpool has fans in every corner of the world

  156. Enrique was a steal

    ReplyDelete
  157. Yeah Liverpool are amazing, all those Premier League titles you have won bring back good memories I bet. Im not even saying Newcastle are a bigger team than Liverpool. I'm just saying that Liverpool are not in the top 5 in the country anymore and Ben Arfa would only leave to a title contending club...

    ReplyDelete
  158. I wouldn't because Henderson is shit.

    ReplyDelete
  159. You think after a few games you can say Sturridge is better than decent? Look at Cisse last year, compared to this year. He has lots of potential but reminds me of Walcott. So close but will never become the world class player that he should be.

  160. Me you bright Spark

  162. Living in the past with this silverware talk. Its no secret Newcastle haven't won any silverware for forever, although still come closer to winning the league than you... Plus you saying Suarez being racist is fine.. Have a word. I can't stand Barton for one, probably like most fans.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Then why didn't he reply to YOU? don't write stupid comments you m*ron.

    ReplyDelete
  164. We've came to winning the league too look at the 2008/09 season table. Also Suarez didn't intend to racist abuse evra, what he said to Suarez means in his culture a different meaning.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Nah it's just because he a ex Sunderland player, that's why your minds fazed.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Sturridge is WELL better than cisse have a word with yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  167. having read all the comments, I think you all need to stop acting like our lass when she is due a period (does my head in). Both nufc & lufc are big clubs with history, but lufc is more recent than ours so I will accept that.what I will not accept is what this article is all about,HATEM BEN ARFA, He never once said he WANTED to sign for any club,he said he was INTERESTED in these teams,(the same as I am when I read the sunday papers), it was all blown out of proportion by the british press(bastards). So calm down lads(or should I say children),HBA is going nowhere. Both of us have some real class players in our squads(we also have some not so class) but we are both rebuilding for the future, lets at least wait for next season, let the football do the talking and not our mouths before our brains kick in.OH and by the way,Carrol,Henderson,Allon & Downing were NOT worth the money that was paid for them,NO WAY,when you look at who has been bought for a hell of lot less. Come on you mags

    ReplyDelete
  168. Joe Allen last season third highest passer of Europe last season and hes 21,When allen develops and finds his form again He'll be a quality player,as for Borini hes a smart little player who has been hit by unfortunate injuries,These two lads are good players with heaps of potential,Just like Lucas Im pretty sure they'll become Important players in the future

    ReplyDelete
  169. Such a big team??? Okay Liverpool 3 years ago,Second in the league,Newcastle?? enjoying championship football.Whos to say Liverpool wont finish top 6? If newcastle finish in the top half they'll be doing well

    ReplyDelete
  170. We've come close like three time since the start of it in 1991 hell we SHOULD have wont it in 2009,we were the best team in the league

    ReplyDelete
  171. Okay honestly now how much is HBA worth? If you say something stupid like 25m dont even bother replying

    ReplyDelete
  172. But as you said Newcastle is a one team city, thats why you have a bigger attendance,Liverpool could sell out a 65000-70000 seater stadium because there is a demand but none of our owners were willing or able to spend the money on it

    ReplyDelete
  173. Oh sorry if I made a typo and then you bring personal insults, please fuck off this site and go back to a Newcastle one,Yeah I stooped to your level but how dare you

    ReplyDelete
  174. 'Please don't reproduce'why would you say that? Good on you insulting my very being because I typed a wrong letter in a word,Get a grip of yourself...you have no idea about me or mu situation..Why if I couldn't do you have any idea on how hurtful that would be? Perhaps you should read the comment policy and show a bit of respect to fellow posters

  175. Marketing. Your guys were as shite as ours back then!

    ReplyDelete
  176. It's about player wages, too. If playing in front of huge home crowds was all that players were interested in, then Celtic & Rangers would have some of the top names in world football playing for them as they have 60,355 & 51,082 respectively.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Better dribbler than Suarez or Bale?

    ReplyDelete
  178. having a bigger stadium is the only thing newcastle have over liverpool..how does that mean theres any potential to become a bigger club?!leeds have a bigger stadium than chelsea..logic has gone out the window completely! liverpool could probably fill a stadium double the size of anfield..theres like 30000+ on the waiting list for season tickets..we should be updating the stadium to 60000+ in the next few years...but this whole 'potential to be bigger' argument is baseless. we have more history of success, much higher revenue, a better squad currently, better youth squad, are operating at little or no debt since the take over, much bigger global fanbase, bigger pull for sponsors and players....i dont understand your argument

    ReplyDelete
  179. Moussa Sissoko, check him out stat boy.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Fair play mate some nice comments there cheers for those but I'm just saying it as I see it, from a non Liverpool perspective. And an indication you're on the slide is you saying your team have scored the most goals this calendar year. A calendar year, come on Liverpool are better than regurgitating stats like this. Who were those goals against anyway? Sure I read a stat a few weeks ago saying Liverpool hadn't won against a team above them. Not good enough for such a massive club IMO.

Brendan Rodgers is an absolute joke and the Liverpool job is way too big for him, he has just been shown how to manage by Laudrup in half a season. Michu for 2 mil compared to Borini for 10 mil says it all. More clinical finishing and more importantly a lot more classy when speaking. The way BR goes on you'd think he had Laudrup's playing career!

I would love to have a slide where you win one cup and get to another final! Kenny, although he was terrible at Newcastle, was doing alright at Liverpool to me, similar to this year your finishing (mainly Suarez's finishing) let you down.

    ReplyDelete
  181. 3 goals? But there two completely different players.....

    ReplyDelete
  182. Learn to read, he didn't say that. Now go and read it, take a deep breath then reply to what he said. There's a good 'cume ed'

    ReplyDelete
  183. Oh no here come the passing stats! I was waiting for those to come out.

How many ASSISTS did he get with those third highest passes? 1 was it? Maybe two at a push. What about final third passes? Clear chances created?

I could do most of the passes Joe Allen does he does nothing special. Gets it off a centre half, gives it to the other one, might pass it forward once a half. WOW! He's a Welsh James Perch

  184. rather have ben dover!!!!!

    ReplyDelete

  185. Niall, I’m not
sure what you’re getting at? You’re just reiterating my point.

    Mark, I agree
that wages play a big role in determining which club a player will decide to
sign for. Celtic and Rangers were probably bad examples though because of the
poor league they play in. I dare say that if either of those clubs offered a
player big wages and the promise of big crowds, many would still opt for a
Premier League club even if the wages were lower.

    I’m not sure if
I’ve been slightly misunderstood anyway – I’m not saying that players would
rather come to Newcastle than Liverpool. Rather something of the opposite -
that if we’d ever had decent players and won all that Liverpool have, then we’d
be playing to a significantly higher number of fans than Liverpool do.

    Redburns, I agree
entirely that Liverpool are bigger and better in every aspect that you list. You
don’t seem to grasp that I’m not saying that Newcastle have more potential to
be successful by any means – we’ve continually been ran shambolically – just that
if we ever were successful (to the extent that Liverpool have been) then we’d garner
more support than Liverpool have managed.

    It’s not
baseless. It’s based on the fact that the clamour on Tyneside for NUFC has
historically been greater than that for LFC on Merseyside. Whilst Newcastle’s
low’s have been lower than Liverpool’s, their highs have always been higher.
The fervour for football is obviously huge in your region but it’s split
between two big clubs right on each other’s doorstep.

    Consider the
    facts:

    Newcastle average
a higher post war attendance to date than Liverpool, despite Liverpool
dominating large parts of that period with the best side in Europe and
Newcastle spending over a quarter of that period in the 2nd tier.

    (Newcastle also
averaged a higher pre war crowd than Liverpool– as did Everton)

    Liverpool’s
highest ever average attendance over a season is 48,127. Newcastle’s is 56,283.

    Liverpool’s
highest attendance for a single game is just under 10 thousand less than Newcastle’s.

    Newcastle currently
average about 6 thousand more spectators than Liverpool despite winning nothing
in the period that Liverpool have won 11 League Titles, 6 FA cups, 8 League
    Cups and 5 European Titles.

    In 2010,
Newcastle had a higher average attendance in the Championship than Liverpool did
in the Premier, even after Liverpool finished 2nd the previous
    season.

    The highest
Newcastle have placed on the Deloitte football rich list is 5th in
1998. This was despite being the only club on the list of 20 not to have won a
European title, domestic title or domestic cup since European competition
started in 55/56. The highest Liverpool have placed on the same list is also 5th.

    I take your point
that there is a season ticket waiting list. I believe the plans are to increase
    Anfield to 60,000. Fair enough.

    You talk about
logic – considering what we now know about attendances, would logic not dictate
that if we matched Liverpool’s silverware we’d get more than 60,000? I think
anyone who doubts that would likely have a big anti-Newcastle agenda. Do you
have any reason to doubt that even a moderately successful Newcastle team (ie. even just regular qualification for the Champions League) would see our Gallowgate end
redeveloped, bumping attendances up to over 60,000?

    The proximity of
Liverpool and Everton means they hinder each other with regard to getting big
attendances. It’s all well and good having a massive global fan base to give a
club big revenues from merchandise but unless they’re flying into Liverpool
from all corners of the world every two weeks then they’re pretty ineffectual
    as far as matchdays go.

    Ps. I’m not sure
what you’re trying to say about Leeds and Chelsea or why it’s relevant? Please
enlighten me on that one. For starters Leeds don’t have a bigger stadium than
Chelsea as you seem to think.
