It's been a nightmare week for Liverpool on the injury front, and in his pre-Zenit press conference today, Reds coach Brendan Rodgers provided a new update on the club's walking wounded.
Rodgers confirmed that Martin Skrtel has picked up a knee injury somewhere along the line, and will not feature in tomorrow's Europa League tie with Zenit St. Petersburg. He said:
"He [Skrtel] is being assessed. I think he’ll struggle with his knee. He took a knock a few days ago, and tried to train and made it worse, and it’s very unlikely he’ll be involved against Zenit"
Rodgers didn't reveal how Skrtel picked up the injury, but it's doubtful he would've started the game anyway.
Rodgers also praised Fabio Borini's mental strength in dealing with his injuries, and revealed how long the Italian is expected to spend on the sidelines:
"The plan is that Borini will have an operation, and he’ll be out for six to eight weeks"
Borini was expected to miss the rest of the season, but according to Rodgers, he could be back before the end of the year, which would give him some time to get back into the swing of things.
Elsewhere, in an interview with the Daily Mail, Frank McParland, Liverpool’s Director of Academy and Player Development, revealed some terrible news about 18-year old youth talent Mark Pelosi:
"Marc Pelosi suffered a bad injury against West Brom on Sunday as the U21s won 2-1.
"He is a versatile midfielder who had been playing really well of late but a tackle two minutes from the end broke his leg in two places.
"He spent the night in hospital for his operation but he will be [out] for six months out"
That's horrible news for Pelosi. Let's hope he comes back fitter and stronger.

fingers crossed they all recover fine, no one likes to see any player, no matter who they play for get injured.
ReplyDeletePelosi was just drafted into the senior squad training if I'm not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteBreaking your bones in 2 places is hard luck. we will pray for his speedy recovery.
For a second I thought Borini was the one out for 6 months lol!
ReplyDeleteIt was a horrible challenge too, the guy looked like he was aiming to cause an injury
ReplyDeletegood luck with there recovery
ReplyDeletePoor lad, Pelosi. Looked in agony. Such a reckless and needless tackle to make. Pelosi only just recently got added to the Europa League squad.

Thoughts and best wishes to Fabio Borini (shoulder) and youngster Mark Pelosi (Triple leg break). Keep the faith
ReplyDeleteGood luck with them,I hope Borini doesn't get sold in the summer unless of course we can get back what we paid for him.But even still I like him and I'd love to see him make it
ReplyDeleteThat was ridiculous.
ReplyDeletemore false advertising headlines from we all know who
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a terrible tackle. Poor lad, indeed!
ReplyDeleteIt was a horror challenge and that guy should be banned for a very long time if sense prevails!
ReplyDeleteAwful tackle, hope he makes a full recovery.
ReplyDeleteoh dear. tibia and fibula broken. that's going to be awhile before he returns to fitness.
ReplyDeletejoking : i think borini is a new QA / QC to medical dept.....
ReplyDelete1 question...do they get fully paid when their in injury state??? or insurance covered lfc salary & medical bill ????
opps sorry 2 question there hehehe
ReplyDeleteSkrtel would be on the bench, Borini in the stands and Pelosi not even in the stadium so I don't think this will affect our chances one bit.
