'We like him' - Viola prepare €10m bid for struggling LFC star. Let him go...?

Earlier this week, Fabio Borini's Agent insisted that the beleaguered striker has no intention of leaving Liverpool this summer, but the Fiorentina rumours refuse to go away, and reports in Italy today suggest that a deal the Serie A club is edging closer to an agreement with the Reds.

According to TMW, Fiorentina are lining up a €10m summer bid for Borini, who is currently out of action with a dislocated shoulder.

On Thursday, Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade confirmed that the Serie A club want Borini. He told Radio Toscana:

"We seek a striker with a hunger for goals in their DNA, a player who lives for the goal. We like Fabio Borini, but it's hard to see that Liverpool will let him go"

Last week, TMW, Marco De Marchi, Borini's Agent directly addressed the question of the 21-year old's Anfield future. He said:

"Is Borini's future still at Liverpool? Undoubtedly. He has a long-term contract with one of the most glorious teams in world football. For now, the only thing on his mind is to work hard and get back on the field as soon as possible"

In an interview with Radio Toscana last Wednesday, Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti - who writes for Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera - claimed"

"As I understand it, the deal to bring Fabio Borini to Florence is at an advanced stage"

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers concedes that Borini has had a 'difficult season', but he is convinced that the 21-year old has the mental strength to come through his latest injury. He told LFC.com:

"It's been a difficult season for Fabio, coming to such a big club and getting an injury early on that put him out for three months. He came back, worked hard and waited for his moment, and then he did his shoulder.

"It's been difficult for him - but he's a tough-minded young boy, so we hope he'll get through the operation well, and then we'll see how he recovers."

I feel for Borini, but if Fiorentina offer €10m, liverpool should take it, and put it towards Lukaku or Benteke. I sincerely doubt there are many fans who wouldn't swap Borini for one of those two...?

  1. Ah well, given that so many Liverpool supporters don't believe that this 21-year old may well come good, it probably would be best for him to go. How about giving them Borini plus 15m for Jovetic?

  2. Bentekke would be a Brillant buy if I'm honest! Strong pace and can score.

  3. Nice guy, genuinely seems to work hard, but probably never should have been purchased in the first player, at least not for the amount paid. The right type of player, but lacking the requisite quality. Really needed a chance in his favoured position to have any chance of settling.

    ReplyDelete
  4. How do you expect him to get a chance if he has had a season of bad injuries?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why mention Lukaku there is no chance Chelsea would sell him .I do agree however Benteke would be a great addition

  6. For Bentekke see Heskey, most certainly NOT for Liverpool.

  7. People in power in the Football world think Borini looks the part, sadly the FM experts on here will always see it differently and he will be bad mouthed out of town!

  8.  the bottom line is he poses little goal threat...cortino and sturridge are similar age to him and have made an instant impact...hell never shift sturridge or suarez and he aint no wide player no matter what anyone on here says....id like a big powerful fast forward as an alternative if sturridge and co arnt firing ...plus is the guy made of paper ...we dont need players who can injure themselves putting there boots on ...its a hard truth but some guys bodies just cant cope with pro sport

    ReplyDelete
  9.  it doesn't bode well if you get bad injuries and you hardly play...man hes dislocated a shoulder and broke a foot and hes only played a hatful of games.....

    ReplyDelete
  10. the bottom line is sturridge is on another planet to borini amd borini cost more

    ReplyDelete
  11. he was a rogers comfort buy like allen....made with the best intentions but ultimatlty doomed to fail

  12. ...for the last time; why are we getting rid of anyone? imagine if Suarez and Sturridge got injured or suspensions and we had no striker. We've already seen what happens. We've already shifted a lot of the team. Lets concentrate on getting players in; yes?

Besides I dont think hes not going to leave after a year. Rodgers wanted him. has had him twice before - must have seen something in him. He's just had a bit of bad luck. And he is only 21 - imagine if (and its a longshot) he turned around and became a great prolific striker. and we'd sold him after a year because of some injuries. I agree hes been poor; but personally that means he needs to show his worth to the club and the supporters; not that he needs to go. Remember when we wanted Lucas out? the hatred for Henderson and Downing - again theyre starting to look like the players we paid for - even if it was too much. if a year on hes still only bagging a few goals - then we get rid of him.

as for Lukaku or Benteke ... not entirely sure where you got them from. We want technically gifted not powerful players; not at all the type of player Rodgers would go for because I doubt they wouldnt fit in the system. For instance; Mr Carroll hes powerful and good in the air why would we get either of them, when we have him if we wanted? not happening mate.

  13. Probably  why he seems to be fancied by football powers, but then again what do they know. Personally i've found over the years, we base everything on the 90,92,93 mins we watch.Men who make their living at this game, tend to use the information and knowledge they build up Monday to Friday..... but as you say, what would they know?

  14. Rubbish. Sturridge cost 12m while Borini cost 10m. Maths doesn't seem to be one or you strengths.

  15. i have to say lads anybody who says we should sell needs there head tested the lad has had rotten luck with injuries and no time to settle hes young has great positional sense works hard and reads the game brilliantly  hes only arrived at one of the biggest clubs in the world give him time or we will regret it

  16.  Heskey was good for lfc

  17. Two years age difference means a lot in football. So much for the similar age of Sturridge and Borini. Then you have players who blossom very early, and some who do so later. All our reserves strikers must me sh1te, because at their age Michael Owen was already playing and scoring for the first team.

  18. I get the impression your a Liverpool "supporter" anteater.

  19. Take away Torres and Suarez, I cant think of many strikers that have have done a better job than him since he left. There was a reason why he was appreciated by his fellow team mates than the everyday football fan.

Young player with potential but he's not had any luck with injuries and if we being honest it has not and probably will not work out i'd take 10 and get a Big man up with technical ability not another Carroll

    ReplyDelete
  21. Agreed. I don't hold out much hope for Allen either.

    ReplyDelete
  22. he never wanted to leave italy, word is he's homesick. If we can sell on quickly without loosing too much, then great-it would appear best for all.
we need 2 more strikers however, to rotate with the SS.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Give the lad a break. Ne has been unfortunate with injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Easy to make fun of Heskey, I do it myself, but he did very well for Liverpool before Houllier started dicking him about and playing him on the wing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not interested in Benteke to be honest. I'm not sure he is the player some make him out to be. Lukaku is out of our reach too. Benteke would be a different option though.

I think before we bring in another striker (which is necessary if, and maybe regardless of whether, Borini does leave) we should get someone who can play where Downing is at the moment and a pair of centre halves. I'd like to see a left-back and a 'keeper too, before a striker.

    Next season:

    New GK

    Johnson - ? - ? - Enrique/?

    Gerrard - Lucas

    Suarez

    ? - Coutinho

    Sturridge

  26. Three words come to mind...
    Sell and run!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Really feel for FB has been unlucky with injuries. That said I feel he has been poorly managed by BR. Must have done no good to his confidence being played out of position for a new club. Hope he's up and running soon.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Who said Lucas was useless only to now say he is class????, we all did. The lad is 21 years-old, still a baby. We have Jerome Sinclair and Adam Morgan too also very young, there is no reason to believe Borini is useless at all. He scored goals in Italy last season, which is hard to do.................get behind the kid ffs!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. 10 million yes please the longer he stays the less we will recoup imo

    ReplyDelete
  30. The thing is he didnt really play out of position, because when he played at roma he also scored goals from the right wing. Hes just too young to expect great things from him (same as with Hendo in the first year) I personally rate him, and i think its unfair and harsh to want him out, and say hes useless. Untill now, he didnt produce anything but he was injured for a long time and his confidence was lost after many reasons that got together. I would still keep him, help him to get back confidence, he will be usefull at some time.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mertens is quality and can produce many things from the right wing!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nice idea with jovetic.

tho i always defended Borini i would swap him without batting an eyelid for jovetic + 15 mbut i think jovetic is out of reach for us, so is cavani and also alexis sanchez. His wages would be enormous and i can only see him going to a Club a la Juve, ManC, Chelsea (Rafa always liked that guy), maybe ?Barca or Real? (well maybe spain would be too much for him, idk)But we can still dream :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Undoubted Sturridge is better than Borini yet, he was also more proven when we bought him, but borini can still become a very good player. Its just unfair fans putting so much pressure on a 21 year old guy, and after 2 injuries they want him out. Harsh IMO, he never played with us for a long time, and he never really got a chance to shine.

    ReplyDelete
  34. How do you mean that, "supporter"?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lets just sell every 21 year-old who doesn't rip open the Premier League.............................grow up people, he is still just a kid who has moved too many times already, like Sturridge did!!!......................now look at him!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. i get the impression you dont have a clue of what hes saying

    ReplyDelete
  37. will he be a new AQUAMAN ???

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think he could come good if given time in his favoured position but, if he is to play alongside Sturridge & Suarez, we'll have to play with 2 central strikers and Suarez ehind them in the 'No 10' role. So where would that leave Coutinho, Sterling, Downing, even Gerrard?

I think that if we're definitely in the hunt for another striker then we should make an enquiry for Mario Gomez. He didn't look happy against Arsenal as he's not found his starting position after he came back from injury as Mandzukic is keeping him out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Strange how he was picked so often to play for England ???

I'd give Borini another season to see if he can stay injury free as well as a chance to prove himself. Henderson has shown that giving a player a season to settle in then judging him more closely throughout the second season can have it's rewards.

I'm more concerned with his injury problems (he had them at Roma last season also) than his form. Again like Henderson found, it's hard to show your best form when played in a less favourable position.

As we're limited for cash it would make sense to give players a chance before getting rid too quickly, otherwise we're going to keep losing money and potentially get rid of a player who could actually be able to do a job for us.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I would too but I think the clubs above us like city or chelsea will get him if thats the case I would really like if we can manage to sign darren bent he will be way cheaper and can effectively do the same job in terms of scoring goals

    ReplyDelete
  42. Owen was an exception and, like Rooney, he's one of a small number of players who have been successful internationals at 18 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Like where your head is at, Jovetic seems like he could play in 3 of the 4 front places (not right wing IMO), think 15m a bit much, maybe 10 or 12

    ReplyDelete
  44. u think he would fit our style of play?

    ReplyDelete
  45. "His wages would be enormous"- While this wikipedia info so i'm not sure of accuracy,  but it say's his wages is 2.5m euros a year which is not much, so don't think that would be a problem...however do think he would prefer a 'bigger' club (note the inverted comma's)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Had the same thought initially, but we bought "AQUAMAN" injured, also the manager who bought him (Benitez) left after a year, don't think Rodgers will leave this year and because Rodgers bought him, he will probably have more opportunites to shine, opportunities which was not afforded Aqualani

    ReplyDelete
  47. Don't think BR will deem Gomez a good fit

    ReplyDelete
  48. definately agree with replacemant for Downing, even though i think he is PLAYING well, he just doesn't give us enough goals, a left footed player playing on the right of a 4-2-3-1 (which i think we actually play, rather than a 4-3-3) needs to give you atleast 10+ goals in all competitions.

However disagree that we need 2 new starting centre backs.Such a move could disrupt chemistry and cost us quite a few points at the start of next season, and i feel it's vital we get off to a good start next season.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Any "big powerful fast forward" who is good enough to make a difference for us, is probably also to good to be willing to just sit on the bench and only play when we need a plan B.

    ReplyDelete
  50. My bet would be on his club valuing him at at least 25m Pounds. Prices for decent talent are enormous.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Absolutely. Quite a few players are nothing more than talents or prospects even at the age of 21.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I don't like Gomez at all. Yes, he's scored plenty of goals last season, but he isn't that good, really. Playing ahead of Robben, Ribery, Schweinsteiger, Müller he hardly has an option but to score goals.

    ReplyDelete
  53.  most of them probably are anteater thats why  only fowler and owen have made ant real impact in 10 years

    ReplyDelete
  54.  well on the premise of carroll at 35m aquaman at 17m allen at 15m its a safe bet to say the ones at liverpool know f*ck all

    ReplyDelete
  55. my maths is good enough to know that if borini put his head in a barrell of tits he would come out sucking his thumb ( northern expression )

    ReplyDelete
  56. if west brom can get lukaku at 18m to sit on the bench for them im sure we can get a similar player to sit on the bench for us and earn his place

    ReplyDelete
  57. Is it possible for you to refrain from making allusions containing my screen name? You surely are educated enough to discuss with me while conduction yourself properly at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  58. F.Borini is rusty talent. No good for LFC to keep F.Borini the striker not too dangerously to score the goal.He is only the passenger in the team and departure when no need his service. The cost must be over than 10 milion pound. Why not used him to swap with SETEVAN JOVETIC?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yes but I'm sure he'll be looking for a lot more from his next contract; wouldn't you?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yes. Heskey was excellent for us. Just shows a lack of football knowledge to say otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  61. no problem anteater..oh sorry i mean no problem

    ReplyDelete
  62. Exactly. And if he gets injured again we might have a hard time even finding someone who'll take him

    ReplyDelete
  63. very well made point. Footballers mature at different ages, and in different positions that is highlighted even more. Keepers often dont hit there prime till there late 20`s.

Borini hasn`t done to much when he has played for us so far, but he has been plagued by injuries, which can`t have helped him settle. On the form he has shown so far, when he has played, he clearly looks off the pace, which would suggest the injuries, and new league effect is still in place. He has doen well at his previous clubs, and therefore I see no reason why in time he cant for us. He is still extremely young, and I would rather keep him, but maybe loan him out next season, just not to a Italian club, only to another prem club, maybe one that gets promoted up to the prem, or to a championship club. Let him get the game time he needs, give him the chance to settle, then if he still isnt performing after a year, look at selling him. I just think even though he aint performed so far, he has something, which will work, as his goal rates for previous clubs is good. I reckon if we sold him, in a few years we would regreat it.

Right now he aint looking ready, but in a year or two he might. Walcott has only really come into his own this year (although still did ok in previous years). Sturridge had a very close record to Borini until he joined us, so again shows the age factor can make a difference. that extra 1 or two years really improve the player.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yep, Gerrard, he wasn`t really that much of a player until he hit 23/24. Look at what he has done since though. Writing off any player under 23, seems hasty and foolish to me.

    ReplyDelete
  65. We make tons of chances! We've been missing a clinical goal scorer for years, I think he'd be ideal and it would also send out shockwaves throughout the Prem if we pulled off this audacious signing. And, with Bayern reportedly pushing for Lewandowski in the summer, he might be pushed further down the pecking order.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thought their deal for Lewandowski was already done. Bayern probably would be happy if someone took Gomez of their hands for silly money. I for one hope it is not us, but what do I know. I don't even rate Dzeko much. Clinical finisher? Hope Sturridge is exactly that. Rather get one of our own youngsters up to being his back-up than pushing him down the pecking order by signing an alleged big name.

    ReplyDelete
  67. You do realise that there is a difference between addressing someone and making allusions, don't you?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Agree with most of your comment. I don't with loaning him to a Championship club though. Shelvey looked great there, too.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yep, there are more changes than I'd like, but I've so little faith in our current crop.
