Modibo Diakité's Agent to meet LFC for transfer talks this week.

Liverpool's pursuit of Lazio star Modibo Diakité seems set to intensify this week, and reports in Italy suggest that a deal for the powerful defender could be concluded very soon.

According to a report yesterday in Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport:

"This week, Ulisse Savini, Diakite's Agent, will fly to England for a scheduled meeting with Liverpool to try and close the deal.

"[Claudio] Lotito [Lazio owner] hopes to recover at least €1.5m for the player.

Earlier this week, Diakité rejected a new contract at Lazio, bringing to an end a long drawn-out dispute with the Serie A giants.

Claudio Lotito and Vladimir Petkovic [Lazio manager] are said to be disappointed that Diakité has decided not to renew his contract, but both seem resigned to losing the player.

Over the weekend, the Daily Express reported:

"Liverpool target Modibo Diakite is waiting for the Barclays Premier League club to make a move for him. Diakite has decided not to sign a contract extension with Lazio, and besides Liverpool, has been linked with a move to fellow Serie A giants Inter Milan".

Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers has reportedly spent the last month trying to thrash out a deal for the 25-year old, and last week, the Reds recently held a second round of talks with Diakité in a bid to resolve differences over salary and contract length.

The 6"2 defender has barely played for Lazio this season, and after rejecting a new contract, that is unlikely to change over the next six months. His only option would seem to be a move away, and with Liverpool in need of defensive cover, a move to Anfield could be just the ticket.

It seems increasingly likely that Diakité will sign for the Reds before the end of the transfer window. Good or bad news?

  2. I'm more excited about Coutinho. Coutinho alongside Sturridge and Suarez IS an exciting prospect, especially in front of Lucas, Gerrard and Henderson!

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm not sold on this player unfortunately. I do not see him as an improvement to Coates and would much rather prefer to keep Sebastian as the back up to Daniel and Martin. We need to strengthen this area, definitely; but I feel defence can indeed wait til the summer. We NEED to strengthen midfield during this window with a solid, creative player, and aim for minimum top 5 or a cup win.

At that price, are you sure Southampton or QPR aren't in for him??

    ReplyDelete
  5. with him is better without him...coates is a bit slow for premiership or even for mansfield....sell coates and buy diakite...no one excited when we bought hyppia, skrtel or even agger...

    ReplyDelete
  6. It is about time the club started buying first 11 players not squad players i do not see neither Skrtel or Agger worrying about their spot with this fellow on stand by.

    ReplyDelete
  7. bargain basement shopping again ,we should have gone to iceland

    ReplyDelete
  8. Saw a nice hand ball in there.  Him and Suarez will get along well.

    ReplyDelete
  9. its not going to happen believe me its just another fsg bluff so when the transfer window closes they will send rodgers out to tell us all they tried to sign this player and that player but alas to no avail same b"llshit as the the summer

    ReplyDelete
  10. I mean... For £1M then I do not mind as I am sure his wages won't be high comparing to others. Hopefully he can keep injury free and be a beast for us.

Coutinho sounds really good. I have followed his short career since he was at Vasco da Gama but he does not want to leave Inter though. He is aware of the offer but wants to fight for a place so I don't know what is going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  11. i dont see carragher worrying about his place with this fellow on standby

  12. just take a look to another report news, that inter finally accepted the new proposal.

  13. Shocking! One foot, no first touch and a head like a 50pence piece. If thats his highlights, the mistakes show reel must be horrific. Take all the worst traits of Babb, Piechnik and Rigo Song and this is the type of hapless player you end up with.

    ReplyDelete
  14. dont forget Nicky Tanner now ;-)

  15. Not quite the same as the summer. Liverpool lost Sigurdsson due to Spurs offering a better salary. Considering that Rodgers knew the contract he was about to accept at Swansea there was no way Rodgers would have payed more than what he should be getting. Seccondly the issue around Dempsey was all about value for money 29 and fulham thought they could squeeze extra money out of us. Liverpool FC is a business and you have to take that into account. The only way we are going to get back to the top is if we are financially stronger not by throwing away money. Afterall instead of signing Dempsey we signed Sturridge in my eyes it's a better deal.

BTW Liverpool neve talk about transfer targets and they never name a player who they go after. So dont expect that press confrence where BR tells us he tried to sign a player. Never going to happen.

  16. Completion brings the best out of players. Look at what happend to Downing and Henderson. So squad players have a very important role in keeping players on their toes.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes but Downing and Henderson, assuming they have improved much, have to compete with Suso, Sterling, Allen - players with actual ability. Not this guy. In the video above alone, I have spotted six situations which could have worked out very badly. The fact that they didn't were sheer luck and had nothing to do with his ability as a defender. And he's dirt slow too. Premiership attackers will eat him alive.

    ReplyDelete
  18. well, if coutinho is forced out of inter, that would hopefully motivate him to prove them wrong by tearing it up for liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  19. oh dear. if anyone (especially rodgers) thinks this guy is better than coates then they are insane. he hasnt even managed to get capped for any of the three countries hes qualified for (one being senegal who arent exactly leaders in world football). he cant get into the lazio team either. what does that tell you? i really do fear we will get rid of coates and i know we will regret it when he's playing consistently for on eof europes other big teams. on that note, stop giving carragher games and sub appearances and use coates instead!!!!!

Not sure if Carragher has anything to worry about really. Got the start he wanted over the weekend after making it known to BR - good thing he did ok.

  22. YouTube can be quite deceptive, I guess it's for the scouts to say.

  23. Greg | Liverpool Kopites11:26 am, January 22, 2013

Looks like Gerrard is warning fsg too by using suarez maybe leaving in the summer with the club nowhere near CL. Then again we don't know whether fsg chose these players or BR likes them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. speak for yourself. agger and skrtel were both record signings at the time for liverpool cb's. and i knew agger was a great talent and skrtel was established at international level and with a good club. this guy has no pedigree and cant even get into lazio's team. as for coates, i'll use your own example there: hyypia. he wasnt ever quick but he was a great for the club. coates has been part of one of the best uruguay teams in history and won the copa america as a regular. hes good enough but its difficult without any sort of run in the team.

    ReplyDelete
  25. To be honest this video just highlights an average player. His 1st touch seems uninspiring.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If we have to buy inexperienced players, we should buy young ones, not guys who are nearly 26 much less than 100 games to their name.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why is in "just another FSG bluff"? Did FSG come out and say that they are interested in signing him or is it actually the media in search for a few clicks and even more headlines who make up all those alleged transfer targets? I go for the latter one.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Am I the only one thinking that this is a waste of money. At centre back we currently have Agger, Skrtel, Carragher and Coates. Add to that Wisdom and Kelly are centre backs by trade and not forgetting Sama who has always impressed me whenever I've seen him play. Ok their is talk of Coates going out on loan which I believe would be good for him because he needs to be playing to improve but we have enough cover without bringing Diakite in.

    ReplyDelete
  29. And have learnt our lesson (hopefully).

    ReplyDelete
  30. Diakite seems to be a bit too slow for the Italian league.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Agree with most of what you say. The world-cup winning teams of Uruguay (1930 and 1950) may have been better (relatively) than the current one, though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Instead you would like to FSG to be like Hicks & Gillett and buy players on credit and put the clubs future at risk. Bankrolling the team does not work it only gets short term success. A team which is successfull and not a one hit wonder requires patience. I wonder what your view would have been if we signed Michu for £2.5m.

There's even a mistake or two in his 'highlight reel'. heheh

    ReplyDelete
  36. I know he is cheap, but i can`t see why we would sign him. I don`t think he improves us at all, so even though cheap, still money wasted

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree to be honest. I'm sure we could get someone else.

    ReplyDelete
  38.  No No No No No No, not a good idea. He can't blend into the team. Bad choice fsg.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Until the window closes none of us know who LFC are in for. All this speculation is just that, speculation. So before everyone gets all wound up by us shopping in the bargain basement surely we should see at the end of the window who we actually get. Sturridge was not everyone's pick but the kid has started very well and is showing great movement and understanding already. After that we're linked to at least another 6/7 players. Now I don't mind the speculation about players but is the negative FSG shopping at Iceland that gets me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I doubt that we'll actually sign this guy, just speculation!.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah but usually people put clips on youtube to show the highlights of players. If these were the highlights, I can only dread what it's like the rest of the time

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's still 1.5 million. That covers for almost 20% of the agent fees everyone got so worked up about. It's about three months of Gerrard's wages. Ergo, a lot of money.

    ReplyDelete
  43. lets hope you're right

    ReplyDelete
  44. Because he said so, and thats all FSG do, they bluff about everything, they have never signed anyone, Sturridge isnt really at Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I wouldn't take too much from YouTube. Watching the player live is the best way to judge. Even then you can't be 100% sure if a player is right. I guess that's why football is based on so many risks and gambles.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Maybe they haven't actually bought us and in reality H & G still are our owners.

    ReplyDelete
  47. as someone else as already said dempsey, and then theres charlie adams we also talked about allen and sturridge before we signed them the list is endless

    ReplyDelete
  48. well lets face it out of the frying pan and into the fire ,they both talked a good game but niether delivered ,fsg said again less than 2 weeks ago lfc can compete with anyone in world football when it comes to transfers,by anyone i assume theu meant southampton who have done us twice on transfer now

    ReplyDelete
  49. lol so he will be perfect for the english then

    ReplyDelete
  50. short term success is better than no success and imo whilst fsg are at the healm unless they change there ways we wil have to settle for no

    ReplyDelete
  51. yes lets sign another player from italy who dose not really want to come ,i mean all the others have been a roaring success dossina aquaman, and borrini

    ReplyDelete
  52. agree m8 great player carras been but coates should have got the nod on saturday

    ReplyDelete
  53. why whats wrong with the truth do you like to close your eyes and pretend its not happening i will right a post just for you about how fsg are turning us back into world leaders again and how they are battling to try and bring all the best talented players to anfield all a load of b0llocks but if it keeps you happy i will start to post lies ,and yes we can wait till the window closes but nothing will change

    ReplyDelete
  54. so to you sturridge is a big signing,i wish i was your dad ,be a cheap xmas as your so easerly pleased

    ReplyDelete
  55. Never said he was a big signing, you said that FSG just bluff all the time. But they have actually stumped up quite a lot of money on players.

    ReplyDelete
  56. What's wrong with the newest article? Can't seem to be able to comment as it says " Comments for this page are closed".

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yup. I got the same message. Wazzup?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Depends on which level of English leagues we are talking about. He'll probably be entirely out of place in the Prem.

    ReplyDelete
  59. You might be younger than me, but I'll call you dad for a 12m Christmas present.

    ReplyDelete
  60. i,am not saying they have not but they said them selves the club was miles behind when they took over and imo they have done nothing to bridge that gap

    ReplyDelete
  61. We spent money and it didn't work, Chelsea prime example you can spend all the money in the world it's not a long term solution. You think Man United and Barcelona got to where they are with short term success. They grew gradually and spent money when required. Increasing revenue and building on the global fanbase Liverpool have will insure a stable future where we can buy these "world class" players.

    ReplyDelete
  62. give carra another 18 months contract .foget this fella looks like were shopping at comet or hmv takin surplus stock again !!

    ReplyDelete
  63. when is the penny going to drop. coates is just to fu"kin sloooooooow for english high tempo football dont loan him recoup the fee !!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. jas were was poulson when we signed italy me thinks? the only decent signing from italy was rushie !

    ReplyDelete
  65. ant he would look out of place in the northern prem!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. and they even managed to turn him into a lesser player

    ReplyDelete
  67. will believe it when i see him at anfield in a red shirt preferably not southamptons

    ReplyDelete
  68. have to agree, coates does have potential but he will still be slow. Its like watching the titanic turning.Carragher is older alright but hasthe experience and communication skills on the pitch that the team requires.Coates is a good honest player but requires first team experience elsewhere

    ReplyDelete
  69. well i will take 3-5 years of building the foundation so the club has a healthier future. It took SAF 5 years now look at where Man U are. No success is built without the hard graft that's just life should not be different in football.

    ReplyDelete
  70. This guy is going to be backup/competition for Skrtel/Agger. There is no need to spend a load of money (since it is more needed elsewhere).

I have a feeling Rodgers will eventually bring in a more demonstrative centre-half, but January isn't really the time for that.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I still don't think we should be writing off Coates. I'm convinced he'll make it eventually, we've probably made the mistake of buying him too early. If we don't fuck up the pricing, we'll fuck up the timing!

    ReplyDelete
  72. no m8 we bought him expecting a young QUICK center back who at 6ft 6ins should be great in the air .he aint neither. some people think he will turn into carl lewis he wont. hes as quick as hes goin to get. which is not quick enough for the epl. sell him and start lookin again cos this fella wont make the cut .which the manger and the coachin staff have sussed already

    ReplyDelete
  73. J.Carr I see you been busy today!! Did Jaimie send you to work early??? Sup Mate?!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think this could be a good signing, he's quick, tall and looks a decent defender and about the cost ? Well if he had a few years on his contract we would be paying probably nearer £8m+ and by the way just remember Sami Hypia only cost £2.5m so I'm all for a bit of bargain basement shopping as there are diamonds in the rough you just need to scout and look for them...

    ReplyDelete
  75. I agree and i don't think we need him to be honest he doesn't look that great. We have better defenders than him

    ReplyDelete
  76. Now this is a very good point.  Southampton have 'done' us twice!  Lets ponder that for a moment.  Southampton, newly promoted club desperate to try to stay in the PL.  They have decided to try to gamble everything and bid big for players and out-bid/gazump other more established clubs.  Is it better to play their game and drive the price/wages still higher and continue to fuel spending which is unaffordable or is it better to determine what the club believe is an acceptable price/wage and walk away if someone is stupid enough to pay more?  In Southampton's  case, most of these players will be available again for pittance when they get relegated next year.  We didn't get the two Spurs targets, but they've hardly been ripping up trees now have they? (4 league goals between them!).  I think the leadership at LFC were right to let these ones go as they did not represent value for money.

    ReplyDelete
  77. The club was miles behind... we were 48 hours away from having an administration order presented to the high court in London by RBS which is what forced through the sale.  Step back and ask what that would have looked like? Firesale of all our best players, points deductions, possibly relegation.  So in that regards FSG have done alright with their business transformation.  They have reduced our debt significantly, lowered our wage bill and trimmed the squad.  They have adopted a prudent approach to spending (spend what you earn) and invested (net) £30m per year.  OK its not Abromovic/Mansour territory, but the Man al-Citeh and Chelski models are unsustainable and come 2014 both clubs could see themselves banned from all european competition for failing to abide by the FFP rules (City are allowed to make losses of £38 over the 24 month period 2011-13.... and lost £97m in 2011/12.  They have to make one hell of a profit this season to avoid it!).  So stop looking into your half empty glass, and instead rejoice on the fact that its not all that bad and your glass is still actually half full....

    ReplyDelete
  78. He might not make it in the Prem, but I am convinced he will make it somewhere.

I should have made that more clear in my post, my bad.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think people should show fsg more respect. They wiped off the majority of debt that was created by hicks and gillet and stopped us from going into administration and they are trying to spend money wisely to ensure that doesn't happen again and that we don't pay over the odds for players ie Carroll, downing, hendo again. They are also following through with the stadium plans unlike H+G.if we want to spend big on players we need to get in the champions league. And they have provided us with the efficient amount of money to do so. So now it's time for players to perform which looks like that is actually starting to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  80. no what is stupid is fsg putting in daft offers for players knowing full well they will not be excepted

    ReplyDelete
  81. do you belive ever thing you read other bigger offers for the club were on the table but forsome unknown reason we had a chelsea fan deciding what was best for lfc,i bet he did not make a cent for doing it either

    ReplyDelete
  82. as i have said before do not mention me and jamie in the same post if you think jaimie acctually likes my posts you are more deluded than the fsg are our saviour group(bean banned and warned of jaimie loads of times and i,am by no means one of is favouite posters)

    ReplyDelete
  83. agree m8 to slow for the italian league hes not got a chance here then

    ReplyDelete
  84. i think it will be carras last season he has stated he wants game time something hes not going to get at anfield imo

    ReplyDelete
  85. i find it disturbing that gerrards coming out with these statements and more disturbing that fsg do not act

    ReplyDelete
  86. how old are you man ure and barca have always been to of the biggest spenders in world football specially man ure

    ReplyDelete
  87. so why waste the money why send players out on loan(wilson) why not let him and coates be back up till then

    ReplyDelete
  88. i'm not saying "lets buy him", just hoping for this possible situation if he is forced to move to us

    ReplyDelete
  89. agree m8 we all hope for the best but

    ReplyDelete
  90. Firstly I normally on read comments on this site without contributing.  However the negativity you show in every post has forced me to comment.

It seems to me that if you had your way we would end up going down one route, the same one Leeds and Portsmouth went down.  You never seem to have anything positive to say about the club you support.  I personally applaud the current ownership for the way in which they are approaching things financially.  Maybe we should get the owners to take your advice and just spend ridiculous amounts of money on players that there is no guarantee will work out, but when we end up back where we were with H&G we can blame you right?  Try accepting that one, the days of massive spending are gone and two it does not mean there will not be success.  The future is about sustainability and I for one and pleased that we are probably achieving FFP well before its implementation because there are many clubs who aren’t going to be anywhere close, and I wouldn’t want to be one of them.

Your comments about Man u and Barca being big spenders is ridiculous, Barcelona negotiate there own TV rights, have a larger stadium and as a result have more money to spend, Man u similarly, have a larger stadium, better sponsorship deals and therefore are in the same situation.  Our owners are clearly working towards this but if you think it’s going to happen overnight its not.

You seem to be hell-bent on being negative about everything that is posted on here, it must be difficult being that unhappy and negative all the time?

Finally you’re spelling and grammar in most posts is atrocious, it’s Marquee not Marque, not difficult.

    ReplyDelete
  92. you really do live in a dream world do you think uefa are going to ban these clubs they will telluefa to do one and start there own competitions why do you think its the champions league and not the european cup the big clubs rule and there is nothing eufa can do to change that eufa get there money from these big clubs not the other way round, and as ive said countless times there are always means round these financial regulations eg man city stadium naming real madrids training ground and countless others whats to stop any club having private boxes at 10million a season and the owner buying them there selves, you may be right about being me being negotive but when the results on the pitch start being posotive so will i,because thats all i care about ,i don,t give a monkeys who owns the club as long as they want to compete with the big boys so for me you can take your fsg and shove them were the sun don,t shine, its been nearly ten years now of underwealming owners and you only have to look at the squad to see that

    ReplyDelete
  93. to say you dont normally comment your having a go today fair play to you everyones entitled to there opinion obviously we differ in ours your happy to go along with the can,t do mentality i,am not

    ReplyDelete
  94. If you read my earlier post properly you'd know that I think it CAN be done the way they are already doing it, but then you obviously didnt read it properly. Expecting what you want from the club and want now just is'nt realistic at all, whether we like it or not football clubs are businesses, and as such should be run in a way that does'nt financially ruin them, its either that or our club can join the HMV's Blockbusters, of this world and go bust, i.e. where we would have ended up under H&G.  We might still have American owners but at least what FSG are doing is sustainable

    ReplyDelete
  95. i did read it,the thing is football as always been a money losing opperation or at best very little profit club owners were fans who wanted to win things ,now we have the yanks and other buissness men coming into football to earn money ,and the people who suffer are us the fans whilst other clubs carry on going forward ,this is what i think will happen with fsg they will carry on the financial far play route meaning they do not invest any of there own money, out of our incoming revenue they will redevelop anfield at the expence of the team and when they have done this they will sell to the highest bidder ,thats fine but what happens in the 4to 5 years whilst this is happening,i will tell you  what we will be like newcastle villa and sunderland ect,at the party but really only making the numbers up,hope i am wrong but this how i really see fsgs ownership panning out,so yes your right i,am not F"cking happy

    ReplyDelete
  96. sorry m8 i have tried  to respond to your post and it,s got stopped cannot be bothered to try again

    ReplyDelete
  97. I am 21 whats that got to do with anything? Barca and Real Madrid receive bucket loads of money from Television rights. Reason why they get to spend so much money. Rightly so, they got the money why shouldn't they. Also Forbes listed Man United as the worlds most valuable sports team in the world ($1.86 billion) followed by NFL team Dallas Cowboys($1.81 billion). So that's the reason why Man United and others are the biggest spenders. They create the revenue which allows them do so. Liverpool are not in that class end of.

  98. and i suppose the spanish goverment never stopped real from going bust a few years back stick to the shoot magazine

    ReplyDelete
  99. you live in a fantasy world 21 your having a laugh my 6 year old knows more about real life than you dreamer

    ReplyDelete
  100. There is no point talking about Real going bust the if's and but's. They haven't and Real and Barca continue to net around 140m per season. They buy players they can afford.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Again what has my age got to do with anything? Man U, Real, Barca etc they are big spenders so what. They win championships, trophies, they have a huge fan base, big stadium etc. The revenue they make permits them to spend big on transfers. This is a fact not living in fantasy.
