Despite the imminent signing of Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool are still reportedly keen on a loan deal for Paris St. Germain striker Kevin Gameiro.
A report in The Guardian last week stated:
"Liverpool will try to secure Kevin Gameiro on an initial six-month loan from Paris St-Germain should the [Sturridge] deal collapse".
The Telegraph reports today:
"Liverpool are pressing ahead with a loan bid for Paris St-Germain striker Kevin Gameiro, despite the imminent arrival of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea"
The arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic Ezequiel Lavezzi have relegated Gameiro to the sidelines at PSG, and with only four starts for the club this season, the 25-year old would probably welcome a loan deal in a bid to get first team football.
Despite his lack of pitch time, Gameiro - who cost PSG €11m in the summer of 2011 - has grabbed 4 goals in 4 starts for PSG this season, and his stats for the last three completed seasons are good, but not great:
* 50 goals/12 assists in 108 appearances.
* Goal every 2.1 games
* Goal/assist every 1.7 games
PSG coach Antoine Kombouare recently described Gamiero's qualities:
"Gameiro is strong mentally, and has great self-belief. He is able to make space for himself, but he is, above all, a formidable goalscorer, and is in the right place at the right time"
After Gamiero scored two goals against Sochaux in September, PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti publicly praised the striker. He said:
"Kevin Gameiro worked very well and had a fantastic match. It shows that he hasn't lost any confidence and he deserved to score his goals tonight".
When asked about the possibility of a move away from PSG, Gameiro seemed unfazed by his lack of regular first team football. He told RMC Radio:
"Everything can go fast in football but I'm Parisian and prepared to give everything for this shirt. I feel good in Paris and I want to stay for the moment".
The key phrase here appears to be 'for the moment', which suggests Gameiro is open to a move at some point. He certainly can't compete with Ibrahimovic (who can?), so a move would seem to be very much on the cards.

If got on loan, then this would be a great deal, if added with Sturridge. It would give us another option, and if he don`t cut it no real loss
ReplyDeletedont know much about the guy...but he seems highly regarded ..would suit rogers as he can play across the front 3...but if im honest i think the guy is just offering a veiled threat to his club to try and get more game time ....what i dont want is another sahin when your doing a big money loan deal there is no point bringing them if they are not suitable to feature regular.....SO CLUB DO YOUR HOMEWORK ,DO WE NEED THEM ARE THEY BETTER, WILL THEY FIT IN
ReplyDeleteTrue, and Sahin so far looks a massive waste of cash and time, but on terms of the front three, other than Suarez who does well??? anyone who can score would be better. Sterling is great, but he isn`t ready yet imo, he needs sub games or a loan so he can find his scoring feet. The other side we don`t really have anyone holding down that spot.
ReplyDeletesterling is shit!
ReplyDeleteloan deals suck
ReplyDeletenot always, if it is the right player, at the right price then they can be good, it is how you do them deals. When we loan out, for some reason we seem to pay a amount of their wage still, yet when we loan we often pay most of their wages if not all and a big loan fee.
ReplyDeleteloan signings are made to smaller clubs, thats why we loan players out every season, but under fsg we have become a small club thats why we want to loan players, before this season name the last player we signed on loan
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you there. The main princple is you only loan off better teams, their young players or rejects, which is turn suggests your team is a also ran. However as we are a also ran right now, and money seems tight, if it helps get us into fourth, and CL so we can then start buying great players again, I`m all for the end justifying the means. As long as it works.
ReplyDeleteWUM???
ReplyDeleteLol real have loaned sahin to us to get him fit and pay his wages hahah ....look at the aqua deal we where well and truly fleeced.....i shouldnt laugh but some of the deals we have made reagrding loans have been scandalous
ReplyDeletebut imo it won,t like you say we pay there wages and lets just say they do do well then we will be outpriced for them
ReplyDeleteclubs tend to loan out shit to get the wages off the books ..its just that when we loan out shit we pay there wages LOL
ReplyDeletetotally agree if sahin had done well they would have out priced us on a move,we loan players out ,not in fsg need to understand that
ReplyDeleteloan him out!!!!!! WE HAVE JUST GIVEN HIM 50 GRAND A WEEK LOL....for 50g a week he should be ready or we should be in a straightjacket for giving him it
ReplyDeletewe never gave him 50k a week, that was media stuff. I think it was about 30k a week that was the done deal, not 100% sure though. And yes Sterling needs to score more, sometimes at his age a good loan to a club like Blackpool and do wonders. If he was ready he would have scored at least 5 goal this season, if not more. Any player in one of the front three roles has to score. To me its that simple, not every game, but every few. He has a lot of talent, but isn`t ready yet, so yes as I said, either use him as a sub (my prefered option) or loan him out. He is still very young. I`m pretty sure he will be awesome when he gets older.
ReplyDeletethats why I said, we do it wrong. Business wise when it comes to players, I would say we are the worst team in the prem.
ReplyDeleteLol come on Zantos hes been one of our best players why would we loan him out ...it not like we are awash with options
ReplyDeletewe are one of the worst in the world when it comes to transfer dealings Lol...i was just thinking of some of the money we have wasted
ReplyDeletethats because we cant negotiate....other clubs put set fee clauses in and a whole range of other clauses that benefit them ...we just hit and hope Lol
ReplyDeleteutter rubish mate ....not many 18 years olds playing at his level in the world yet alone PL
ReplyDeletehas he though? He plays up front as part of the front three, that jobs means score goals and provide assists. No matter how many fast runs, or fancy footwork you do, the main aim is to score and provide assists, which I think he hasn`t done enough of.
ReplyDeleteNow don`t get me wrong, as I have said many times, he has a lot of talent, and will do well, but I think one of our problems this year has been thinking that not scoring from one of the front three is ok. Lets put it this way, if Suarez played out wide this year, and had scored only 1 goal, would you be happy? or be saying hang on, thats not good enough. I don`t expect lots from them, but 10 goals from each wide player is a min for the season. Again, he is young, and I don`t blame him for this, I think young players need time to grow, and develop, so im not on Sterlings back at all.
you think or you know big difference ...i think rogers will use him as a sub but at present we have no other options
ReplyDeletewhat do you mean do I think or know??? I think you have massively mis read everything I have wrote, as wrote, my prefered option was to use him as a SUB, the idea of a loan is if w got in better players. To keep his growth happening. So do you think it is ok for the wide players to not score???
ReplyDeleteBitter Toffee or Scum fan???????
ReplyDeletehes playing a lot because we have no other options not because hes ready...everyone knows hes not the finished article but our squad is so weak regarding attacking players he has to play ...it would help if other players are chipping in but they are not ..the goal input by our middle 3 is almost non existent our FB never chip in ..so as a result we struggle ...thats the problem with having lucas and allen in the same midfield ...zero goal threat...but hey if thats what floats rogers boat so be it
ReplyDeleteI don`t know how we are so bad, some things I can understand, yes due to our status, we pay a bit more, but not the amounts we pay, then with loans in we are rubbish, and with loans out we are even worse. It`s not just this manager, or owners, over last few it has been the same. Then their is agent fees, the list is so long in so many places that we do it wrong, it makes me wonder who is actually in charge of money for Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteHe is just a WUM (wind up merchant) hoping for replies, like a Troll.
ReplyDeletenothing sinister just that the difference between 30 and 50 grand is a lot of money....i understand what you mean about letting him develop but the position liverpool are in regarding squad its just not feasable we have to play our best 11 ...if we bring ince in is he better than sterling will sturridge be better its alot of ifs
ReplyDeleteDon't we already have about 6 X 5' 8" striker/attacking mid-fielders? How about somebody with some heft who won't get muscled off the ball.
ReplyDeleteit is still the top threes main job to score, you cant excuse a striker/wide player from scoring ever and blame a FB. or even Lucas or Allen. the DM isnt meant to score. As I have said, I am referring to after the transfer window, which should be clear as this topic is about transfers. We didn`t have the options, ideally after we will. You asked who would be better, or will they be better, I was just pointing out anyone who scores would be. I`m sorry but while I agree the whole team should chip in, the main goals should always be coming from the front three. To excuse them and blame a DM or a FB for not scoring enough, so A wide player can get away with never scoring is everything which is wrong right now. As I stated he isnt the finished article, hence why sub bench or loan would make sense, unless you would prefer to play a not ready player, who you first claimed is ready, then said isnt and watch us not do well this year?
ReplyDeleteI'm all for loan deals if they include a reasonable buying clause as well. What's the point in spending millions on players without any experience in the Prem. People would rip into Rodgers no end if he spent, say 10m on this guy and he didn't deliver the goods. Sensible business.
ReplyDeleteKG is a good striker, he probably will need to play through the middle though.
ReplyDeleteOK...I watched the video. Very Von Persie like...great feet, great instincts, knows where the net is...get him...today.
ReplyDeleteLike when we loaned Anelka. My point is, that while generally you are right, loans are made to smaller clubs, at times players are loaned out because they don't get a match at their club for whatever reason.
ReplyDeleteif either score then yes they will, as Sterling has scored what 1 goal, I imagine they will be better. It is a big difference, but the only 50k stuff I saw was internet rumours, ages ago, which Sterling himself said were lies (altough he deleted his tweet after).
ReplyDeleteOnce the deal had gone through the wages dropped, which are the morely likely wages, although we will never know for sure. As we were talking about new signings, or loans, I stand by the call that getting anyone in for both wide positions who scores is a big improvement. Sterling can then grow at his own pace, with less pressure
have replied, im getting modded bad right now so might take a while lol
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't believe Sterling is bad, but he needs to step up. He needs to hammer a few of those low angle shots at the keeper instead of looking for a sweeter pass. He has a very quick release and with power we'll get the rebounds that lead to scores.
ReplyDeleteExactly, not all loans are bad. It is as with everything about THE loan, or THE signing.
ReplyDeleteAgain spot on. Imagine if Borini was say a 3mil loan with a 7mil back out clause, that would have been much better business than the straight 11mil cash. (he might still work out, just an example)
ReplyDeleteThere are a few players I wished we had loaned this season instead of buying. ;-)
ReplyDeleteagree....can i include some players are unbelievable wages. Who drafts these contracts?
ReplyDeletewe negotiate then agree to the other clubs every demand, plus chuck them i few extras in on top
ReplyDeleteFrench strikers in the prem though????
ReplyDeletethats part my point for the money we pay out i want the bona fida finished article.....whats funny is i had forgot that borini was due to come back soon so little has his impact been
ReplyDeletethe thing is positionally you dont know what his remit is ....i know he should score more but the whole team should but when your entire game plan is built around possession and zonal pressure i think it stops a few players pulling the trigger for fear of being the one that lost possession...its one of the misgivings i have about introducing this type of philosophy so fast without players fully understanding there role
ReplyDeleteFrench strikers have a great history in the prem...its one of the reasons i lean towards them
ReplyDeletebut he was a straight buy, if he was a loan it would have been better right?
ReplyDeleteTheiry Henry????
ReplyDeletethats one of the major problems Liverpool have ....i think clubs feel they have a duty to fleece us....i mean who wants to be the guy whose club gave Liverpool a good deal you would lose an awful lot of kudos
ReplyDeleteMaybe just not the one's LFC have signed! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIf it is a loan deal then it sounds like a good deal. It is a risk in that the Ligue 1 and EPL are not at the same level. The EPL is quicker and more physical. He has experience and without the big transfer layout, there would not be the pressure to play him when he is not on form. He would be the first true center forward with experience on our squad.
ReplyDeleteFrench strikers or strikers from the French league? There are good arguments for both. Maybe not for the ones that LFC have signed!
ReplyDeletefar better ...in my opinion we paid 11m on an unproven player...for that money he should be the real McCoy no ifs or buts
ReplyDeleteI think when you see RVP at utd you realise the benefits of buying proven class
ReplyDeletewe are the only club i know that downgrades its only players before selling them...
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Sometimes, when I let my thoughts wander, I wonder whether all those guys (other team's managers) who do business with us nowadays try to get one over us as we've beaten the teams they supported in their youth all of the time. Late revenge.
ReplyDeletethese days though, the proven players often cost 20mil plus, but i do get ur point, and do agree we have paid to much for dross for 20 years, I never understand why it is so hard, I could hand pick 10 better players, who we could go for without even thinking, of which at least 5 would be possible, yet manager after manager gets it wrong, time and time again
ReplyDeleteFront 3?? we have played 4-2-3-1 in almost every game this season!
ReplyDeleteTevez & Mascherano really sucked!!
ReplyDeleteI think we mainly killed it in KK time. Before that, we were still bad, but that was when it went really wrong, I think now managers think, well if they would pay 20mil for Downing, and 35mil for AC my player is worth this much... Basically like Man city have, but without getting as good players. It makes me sick seeing the prices we paid. There can be no excuses. It was shocking, and as a club we will pay for it for years to come.
ReplyDeleteJason are you really a Liverpool fan??
ReplyDeleteEven though I feel strongly he should score more, I do partly agree with you here, which does by your own words give a excuse to the Allens and Lucas`s right? hahaha, can`t have one excuse for one and not the rest.
ReplyDeletedid tevez sign for lfc , i must have been in a coma then, mascherano yes but a fee was put in place, imo a very high fee considering what he had done at west ham
ReplyDeleteno i just waste my time on here lol
ReplyDeleteno we have had some class ones ;-)the best was on loan but we did not sign him
ReplyDeletemy hypocrisy has no bounds
ReplyDeletei really dislike this Dm arnt meant to score...why not are they not on the same pitch....its a massive relief of responsibility to say you never have to score and it vastly reduces your teams ability ability to win....you can give a case that souness, case and mcmahon and whealan where all defensive midfielders but look at some of the goals they scored...its a massive cop out
ReplyDeletei dont know the full number of staff employed by Liverpool at an administrative and account level but you get the feeling thats its institutionalized and set in stone the way they do these deals...its the only way to explain the incompetence....i think our wage bill has actually gone up under fsg after all the noises they have made about getting rid of deadwood
ReplyDeleteplus he improved beyond recognition at Liverpool and we didn't make much profit on him ( cant be arsed checking amount)
ReplyDeleteanelka was no slouch mfimfi he would have been far better than heskey.....cisse was unlucky with injuries
ReplyDeleteTrue, but Utd have always played with one main scorer, before RVP, it was Rooney, before him Berba, before him Ronaldo, they seem to use one player as their main outlet. I reckon they could sell RVP and get anyone in and there new person in that role would do it too.
ReplyDeleteNothing in football is 100% non risk, but you can make the chances of it working more likely, plus experience is so imortant in football, as seen by your example of RVP
It is not that they aren`t meant to score, but just like a goalkeeper who is also on the same pitch, there main role isn`t to get goals. Of course you want them to score, but when your saying it is ok for a wide forward to not score, but the DM should, I question your logic on the argument.
ReplyDeletePlayers have roles, and the DM is vital, there role means there is little chance they will ever get into a goal scoring position.
Not true, we have played 4-3-3 a lot too. Also even on a 4-2-3-1 the front four should then be scoring, what is you point? you also think players in the attacking line (if you prefer it called that than actually formation name) don`t score?
ReplyDeleteIt would be good too see the overall wage bill, I would be amazed if it has, as last summer we took 15mil off players wages (roughly). So if it has gone up, then something is going very wrong, unless we have employed one heck of a lot of non playing staff
ReplyDeleteBut he was awesome for us when here. And we didnt lose money when selling him, which is prob a lot more than we can say for some of our lasted signings like AC. I can only assume they are hoping the massive yearly rises on how much people will pay for a player carries on, and in four years time 35mil is deamed peanuts, so he sells for 60mil lol I think if FFP comes in correctly it will go back down again, although chances are FFP wont be done correctly
ReplyDeleteOk, I know it is the media but reports say that RVP is earning 250k a week plus another 10 million if he stays at the club for 4 years.
ReplyDeleteAdd the 24 million for his transfer fee and that works out to 82 million of total costs over a period of four years. That is 20.5 million per season. If reports are true then a deal like this would have made much more sense if Van Persie was 25 or younger.
Suarez might just end up being one of the most prudent buys LFC has ever made.
life has no limits...if only I could get out of this box first... :-)
ReplyDeleteThe dealings under KK and Comolli surely were somewhat different, but it started well ahead of them to be honest. Keane for what, 18m then selling him back to the same club for 12m, Aquilani for 20m, an injured player. We've paid 12 or so million for Babel and people now rip into Borini who cost less, has played less and at least doesn't appear to have the same ego problems as Babel. We've been fleeced for ages. Didn't we once pay 12m for non-scoring striker Heskey? (I appreciate his service to the club though, worked well with little Mickey back then).
ReplyDeleteunlucky aint the word, two broken legs, different ones too.
ReplyDeleteThat was the old Liverpool, the new Liverpool under Rodgers are a lot more shrewd in the Market and besides the financial side of the Sahin deal, Werner and co seem to have got wiser!
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with Jamie here, 50 goals in 108 games IS great! This boy could be the real deal!
PS: How many messages have you posted today Zanatos? Lol! Is your boss watching?? Lol!
Hope u r better today from the dreaded bug which is going around?
ReplyDeleteTrue, but compared to KK time, they were either less often, or amongst good signings. All managers make mistakes. Fergie spending £30mil on Veron and Jose on Shev. While Keane was bad, and Aqua, at least you has Alsono, Torres, Agger, Reina, plus many others for a fair price.
ReplyDeleteWe have been bad for years, but until recently it was only sometimes, now it is almost every deal.
if we got sturridge and gameiro. itll be more like three forwards upfront instead of wingers and striker.
ReplyDeleteSturridge-Gameiro-Suarez
------------suso-----------
i like how that looks in paper.
Sahin is superior footballer to any in our midfield - just my oppinnion. I wonder why we are failing to utilize him in bottom of midfield where he should be playing. Sahin - Allen / Sahin - Lucas, far better match than Allen - Lucas.
ReplyDeleteHe is good defencively and can dictate tempo of a game. also has quite a arsenal for passing and can easily send 30meter killer ball.
wonder how he feels to be warming bench on loan here, guess no change of him staying after summer. And yes, I would sign him.
we did not make a lot at all, we should have not paid even 10milion based on west ham performances
ReplyDeleteSterling played well for 5 matches at the beginning of the season. Now he just runs with ball against first opponent and loses it.
ReplyDeleteLousy last pass. loses concentration easily. Another winger needed. Sterling has a lot of work to do to become a starting lineup player for liverpool.
ill have to reply here as i cant on the correct one..i have never said wide players shouldn't score of coarse they should thats there bread and butter ..im defending sterling's record because hes 17/18 playing in a system that i dont think him or rest of the team have yet to come to terms with...if you look at the zonal positioning of 433 when we lose the ball hes almost a wing back the same when we have the ball ..plus sterling relies on support quick one twos on the edge of the box if the midfield isn't supporting a lot of times he simply runs to the corner flag with no one to pass to...like ive said the postional sense of the front 5 has to be spot when attacking in 433 or you lose the ball cheaply
ReplyDeleteour defence is sh#t how sorting that out first
ReplyDeleteMost of the goals in that video came from counter attacks. Not exactly the style we play. The one at 1:37 is a bit worrying. He still scores, but shows a total lack of composure. I'd like to see a few videos of his overall play and his misses. Any player can look good on youtube.
ReplyDeleteBig mistake by Gerard Houllier.
ReplyDeleteZanatos wants to win all the prices for most prolific commenter this year.
ReplyDeleteThink the problem was that he was still partly owned by that company. Can't remember the name, but they buy a lot of players in South America (I've heard).
ReplyDeleteOr last season. How about the season before last. The story goes on and on and on.
ReplyDeleteLike Babel or Heskey, who've cost about the same some years back. Add inflation (which in transfer fees is immense) and that Borini is so unproven that he was picked for the Euro squad of the eventual runners up. Not that bad a deal after all, given that he should turn out to be good enough, which I believe he will.
ReplyDeleteIf you have money to burn like Chelsea or, at times, Man U, making expensive mistakes in the transfer market isn't such a problem, especially if you keep winning the league at the same time.
ReplyDeleteim still ill, but feeling better, hence why im on a lot today, house bound so to speak lol
ReplyDeletehaha, I can`t see that happening, will be working again soon, and I work long hours.
ReplyDeleteTrue it is getting better, but we are still paying the price from KK time. We are starting to lower how much we pay again, but it is still over the top imo.
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to justify yourself.
ReplyDeleteI disagree, Juventus & AC Milan loaned Aquillani from us - neither of them are also rans on small clubs.
ReplyDeleteThere are exemptions, and im for loans.
ReplyDeleteI felt I did, as couldnt tell if your post was tongue in cheek or for real.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the vid the other day, the other thing I noticed was most of his goals came from passes over the top to him, as we play along the floor, not sure how he would suit that, or if the passes would get through. I`ve only come around to him as everyone seems to rate him, and as I don`t watch french footy much, figured he must look better irl, or if you watch him alot.
ReplyDeleteLol! I think Gilstrap is pushing Zanatos hard for the title!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of loan deals if Gamiero turns out to be a success a possibility of buying him is on the cards.
ReplyDeleteThinking about it what if the club had spent 20 million pounds on Sahin only to see him put in what we have seen we would have been wishing he was on a loan.
Not sure if it is a typo but Antoine Kombouare cannot presently speak for PSG while he manages Saudi's Al-Hilal having left PSG in 2011 prior to Ancelotti's arrival.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, sahin has not been given fair chance he is better player then Allen and Lucas who is yet find his form prior to injury.
ReplyDeleteI just read somewhere Kevin wants to remain at PSG until the end of the season. Also Inter wants to take on Sahin. Still don't know the score with him and LFC. Why bring Sahin in and not give him playing time.?
ReplyDeleteYour not wrong there. The question is when will we start learning from our mistakes?
ReplyDeletei still don't understand why we didn't sign Anelka permanently [o yeah the memory/nightmare has returned el hadji diouf].
ReplyDeleteDue to my tunnel vision Le Tallec and Pongolle sprung to mind initially. They had a few good games in 2005, not prolific though.
As for cisse i take your point due to injuries you cant judge his anfield tenure.
he cost about 18m - again bad negotiating can be blamed when we initially loaned him - although as anteater71 says that could be down to third party ownership. Sold him for about 22m as arguably the best DM in the world.
ReplyDeletelol i knew it!!
ReplyDeletewhats even funnier is that there are a few reports doing the round that we are trying to get rid of sahin before his loan spell even ends!
ReplyDeleteMash was a perfect loan example that worked well. Without having to lay out a large investment before knowing talent fits in squad for benefit to squad or provide value. Guess this is the atypical tho.
ReplyDeleteActually may have done good business buying him at that point if we could have as his value b4 pool was arguably much less than what we were held to I recall.
ah the cats out of the bag
ReplyDeletehe worked well but it cost us nearly 20 million
ReplyDeletebut we should have got him for a lot less based on west ham performances
ReplyDeletehim and fowler houlliers bigest mistakes
ReplyDeleteCan we add Salif Diao and El Hadj Diouf?
ReplyDeleteYes, when, good question. Just like when will we finally win the league again. It is hard to take given that I grew up with us winning everything right, left and centre. And actually attracting the best available players.
ReplyDeleteJason is up there, too.
ReplyDeleteIt surely doesn't occur regularly that I have any bad thoughts behind my posts, and so far never when replying to you.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to think that everybody looks better on youtube than in real life. I mean, if somebody had taped all the goals that I've scored in my life and created a compilation of the best ones, I'd surly look like a technically astute player, which I never really was.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the kind of player Liverpool needs and is missing up front at the moment. He is strong on his feet and finishes doesn't need room to make things happen. Kinda reminds one of Torres.
ReplyDeleteWill we get the deal done is another question.
didn,t he also sign cisse
ReplyDeleteHe did indeed. Strange player really. Didn't convince me at all. Not many (if any) tricks in his box.
ReplyDeletethink he was his last signing
ReplyDeleteYes he was, but the player didn't arrive in time for Houllier to welcome him to the club. 15m down the drain.
ReplyDeletelol the post situation still not fixed driving me mad
ReplyDeleteIt works fine occasionally. Maybe Discuss is hung-over.
ReplyDeleteEvery now and then I read/hear a comment that really puts into perspective how far we've fallen as a club. You sir just slapped me with a huge dose of reality and for that, I thank you.
ReplyDeletesorry m8 hope it did not hurt to much lol
ReplyDeleteim glad your getting used to suarez it took you long enough
ReplyDelete
