Yes please - Reds make £12m bid for goal-machine who called LFC a 'dream club'.

In November 2012, Liverpool target Moussa Sow revealed that he rejected a move to Anfield during the January 2012 transfer window. The Reds still apparently in the market for another striker, and according to reports this week, the club has resurrected its interest in the Fenerbahce striker.

A report in Turkish newspaper Fanatik this week claims that Liverpool have put in a €15m offer for the prolific goalscorer, whose current contract expires in 2016.

In an interview in November, Sow - who has grabbed 18 goals and 6 assists in 41 appearances for Fenherbace - claimed:

"Both Arsenal and Liverpool had tried to sign me before I ended up in Fenerbahce, but I don't have any regrets having done so. I wanted to play at a team which have a fantastic atmosphere and in a great city like Istanbul. My religious view was also effective in my decision to join Fenerbahce. I'm really happy here."

Prior to his move to Turkey, Sow revealed his admiration for Liverpool. He told Sky Sports:

"Liverpool, well, that is a dream club. Anyone would be happy, scoring goals in front of the Kop can be the highlight of a career".

Sow contributed 34 goals and 6 assists in 60 games for Lille, which is a very good return. There was definitely a small window of opportunity for Liverpool in January 2012, but given the Senagalese international's religious preference, it seems that a deal could never have been concluded.

Even if Sow wanted to come to Anfield, the deal probably would not have gone through. The Reds desperately needed a striker in January, but Kenny Dalglish decided he's rely on Andy Carroll instead. Six months later, the King paid for that error with his job.

Daniel Sturridge recently signed, but the club still needs something else up front, and Sow would certainly offer an exciting attacking option.

Would be a good signing, we need a experienced striker upfront because we have two young strikers in borini and sturridge...

  2. yes i think he would be decent in the prem ,

  3. i dont really rate him..he wont fit rogers system as his ball control is suspect

  4. Iam really hoping borini is going to come good, the guy must have something about him to have made the italian squad, agree that another striker would still be welcomed, lets hope danny puts the mancs to the sword this weekend & becomes an instant hero :)

  5. If we are going to consider this guy, then we should have just tried to get Demba Ba.

  6. how good do you have to be to make the squad...aqua man played for italy and he was crap

  7. I priority should be at least one quick, experienced, goal scoring winger. Sterling is good but not consistent enough for a team aiming for top 4, Assaidi hardly gets a game, Suso is clearly not comfortable there and Downing...well we all know Downing don't we.
That leaves us with not much options really. Upfront we've got Suarez (2nd top-scorer in the league and one of the worlds current best strikers), Sturridge and Borini to cover up and that's more than enough for now.

  8. Btw no offense but how is 18 goals in in 41 appearences in the Turkish league a 'goal machine' ??

  9. Wasn't a big concern with Ba about his knee? I do agree with you though. Even with his knee issue, we could have gotten Ba for half the price being talked about here for Sow because of his contract clause.

  10. Isn't Sow quite a bit younger? I think he'll demand smaller wages than what Ba was after. And another thing, why do the press always use the word "demand" when talking about what a player's agent is trying to get for his client's wages, why can they never ask nicely?

  11. Sow is 26. Ba is 27. And it's always more fun to "Demand" than to "ask"!

  12. we need 4 out right goal scorers all competing for places, keeping the competition high! Hate to say it but thats what will win the scum another title this year! FACT... :-) so if a bid is tabled for him, then lets hope it isnt in vain like most of the deals Ayre does. I read a quote, that he runs the club, heaven help us if thats long term.

  13. Rodgers needs to sign a creative goal scoring midfielder. With the departure of Sahin, the squad is getting thinner.

  14. I don't know why we didn't buy him before he went to Fernabache

  15. how on earth do we watch a club like tottenham make such shrewd signings, and we end up players nobody else wants?

  16. And to compare ourselves with united, they have 3 strikers all aiming for 20 goals a season - RVP, Rooney & Hernandez - We only have Suarez & now sturridge, where are the rest of the goals gonna come in from? Lets face it, Gerrard is aging, are we ever gonna sign a replacement for him?

  17. OK! I like this Moussa Sow guy. I think the marking in the Turkish league leaves a lot to be desired, but what accuracy on the volleys and on the run...wow!

  18. Liverpool are pretty shite,so he would fit right in...it's over 4 u lot live with it

  19. I think 4 is a bit much considering we only play one proper striker. United can do it because they play 2 up front.

I don't think now is the time for another striker though. We're best just trying to get the measure of Borini and Sturridge in my opinion.

Better value in the Summer and usually there are better options.

  20. We need a Daniel Levy-type. An absolute tight-arse (don't know if that should be hyphenated, never had to write it before) but one who knows the game. Ayre has done decent stuff on the commercial side, but hasn't been good enough with the transfers. We should seperate the roles.

How on Earth you find this kind of individual, I don't know.

  21. He looks like he'd fit in well in the Premiership.

I'm not convinced he is polished enough to play as Rodgers would like, but I thought the same thing of Sturridge. He'd definitely be a good option, but we can't afford to have 'options' who are as expensive as he would be.

We'd be better off getting a player who has a chance of becoming a top player like Tottenham did when they bought Bale, Modric, Walker etc.

  22. a goal scoring winger then, apart from Suarez no one has scored. 4-4-2 has to be played some times, the free passing possession game will not always win us the majority of games we need to win, agree Borini needs a chance, he hasnt had that yet. I think Sturridge will prove a hit.

    ReplyDelete
  23. i dont think we could have gotten BA at all.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Moussa is better than his goal scoring record shows, but Liverpool will not be going for him. Players there are no bargains, and it's a huge transit from Turkish league to PL.
He reached his peak so it's not the signing I'd expect from Liverpool anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  25. We definitely need goals from the wing (and midfield) no argument there. Hopefully Ince will prove more lethal in front of goal than Sterling has thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I haven't seen much of him but people are talking about this Dries Maartens- he certainly looks the part on paper.

    ReplyDelete
  27. For a striker with 6 assists and 18 goals is impressive. He sure knows his volleys. Something we don;t see from Liverpool strikeforce. GJ is the only exception. but he is not a striker. RVP scores most of his goals from volleys and first touch.

  28. Yeah, youve got a point there mate, the great alberto!!!

  29. 18 goals in 41 appearences a "goal machine"? Hyperbolic rubbish.

  30. Everybody is going on about the quality of Tottenham's signings, but the only attacking one I rate from the last year was Dembele (Lloris and Vertonghen were obviously good signings also and I can't believe the lack of competition for those signings).

The rest, including Holtby, fail to meet the specific needs of the team and only provide marginal improvements.

    ReplyDelete
  31. signing Sow, or someone of that ilk, would be great for the club and should be a much higher priority than chasing Ince, Sneijder or anybody else (bar maybe a physical central midfielder a la Sissoko/Diame/Capoute/M'vila etc)

A front 3 with Suarez & Sturridge drifting about around a center forward like Sow (with Sterling, Borini & Assaidi backing them up) would be much more imposing, flexible and improve the squad far quicker than a front 3 of Suarez, Sturridge & Ince/Sterling (with Sterling/Ince, Borini & Assaidi as backups).

    ReplyDelete
  32. We have Shelvey & Henderson who look to be box-to-box midfielders, Allen as a passer in central midfield and Suso who can fulfil the No. 10 role.

Gerrard was special in that he could cover all three roles at once, but players like that are extremely few and far between. Replacing him like for like is pretty unlikely...

  33. Ba is so frigging ugly though - that was the big put off for me! lol
