A whole host of Anfield legends have laid into Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool team after the atrocious 3-2 FA defeat to Oldham at Boundary Park yesterday.
For the first time this season, almost all prominent ex-Reds in the media were unanimous in their condemnation of Liverpool's performance.
Gary Gillespie called the result a 'Banana skin of epic proportions', and in his column for The Mirror, Mark Lawrenson slammed Sebastian Coates and Martin Skrtel for being bullied out of the game:
"Coates bottled it for Liverpool. Matt Smith just bullied the Skrtel and Coates. He just threw himself at them. Why? Because he was prepared to get hurt hurting people".
John Aldridge praised Oldham for putting in a 'brilliant' performance, but also criticised the defence. He tweeted:
"Our centre halves got rumbled. [They] didn't fancy it. Serious worries over Coates - he has to get better. All goals should've been stopped and the ref decision not to give Sturridge a foul before their 2nd goal baffled everyone"
Alan Hansen insisted that Brendan Rodgers put out a strong enough team to win the game, but also blamed the defence. He told The Telegraph:
"Liverpool obviously played a weakened team but even with the players starting that match, and others such as Steven Gerrard coming off the bench, they should still have had enough to beat Oldham, who are close to the relegation zone in League One. The defence was the one area particularly weakened but when you have got Luis Suárez and Daniel Sturridge in your team they should still be winning that game".
Phil Thompson also praised Oldham, but blasted the defensive performance:
"The defence was shambolic, but congrats to Oldham. Gutted!"
Steve Nicol delivered the following withering assessment on ESPN:
"It was an awful display, particularly from the back four. It was a very poor performance over ninety minutes"
Robbie Fowler was also magnanimous in defeat, and paid tribute to Oldham:
"Should never say this when a Premier League team plays a lower league side, but the best side won"
It's undoubtedly a poor result, but the response from some people seems massively over the top. Big clubs regularly lose to smaller teams in the FA Cup; it's happened to Liverpool many times in the past, and it will undoubtedly happen again.
It's a shame to be out of the competition, but it's not the end of the world, and it's definitely not the end of the club's season! The only priority this year is to progress in the league, and - hopefully - finish in the top four.
Nothing else matters, and I sincerely doubt FSG will be losing any sleep over the FA Cup exit. After all, they sacked Kenny Dalglish after he got to the final, so clearly, domestic cup competitions are very low down in the group's list of priorities. An early exit could actually be a good thing for the club:
* Less games/needless replays to got through.
* Less games = fresher players and less chance of sustaining injuries.
* Fresher players = more chance of mounting an assault on the top four.
The Reds are only 7 points away from the Champions league places at the moment, and 4th place is definitely a possibility this season. Yes, there are two tough away games coming up, but 2-4 points against Arsenal and Man City is an achievable goal, and if that happens, then everything will look a lot rosier.
I personally found Brendan Rodgers' disgraceful public evisceration of the club's young players to be far more disturbing than the Oldham result, but that's another article.

Rodgers is right to blast the young players mainly robbo and Coates.
ReplyDeleteoldham play evisceration next dont they. no playmaker played first half - no play, simple - fault is Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteWhat can you say !. The keeper will have reoccuring nightmares; Coates was very poor, along with the rest of the defence. Coates desperately needs games, either loan or sell. It was a game I wish simply to forget. Well done Oldham !.
ReplyDeleteAs a supporter the performance was heart breaking to say the least. The legends gave their view and it was fair. I would love to see Lfc pay every day and not moving ahead in the fa cup is another year in disappointment. I just hope this week results are 6 points otherwise.....
ReplyDeleteYou are right, defo losing sleep being out of the FA Cup. Challenging for the top 4 should be the priority and at least the europa league is recognised throughout Europe.
ReplyDeleteRodgers had every right to have a go at the young players. The man has supported and praised them up to this point and they deserved to get a blasting especially Jack Robinson for telling Suarez to "Fcuk Off" when he took a silly shot instead of pass the ball.
I believe Rodgers should blame himself for the team selection in the first instance. He did not select the right players for the occassion. Shelvey should've started instead of Sterling and Suso instead of Borini. Shelvey the most suitable LFC player for such a game. Players like Sterling should have come as subs against tired defence of the opposition. There was no midfield until 55th minute when we were already chasing the game being two goals down.
ReplyDeleteThe 4th place is only a theoretical possibility since Spurs crashed out as well hence they will enjoy the same benefits of having less games being already 7 poinys better off.
i think it was bad team selection, brendan didnt quite get it right even though you would expect abit better from the players that was on the pitch! we are still in the uefa and still possible for champions league spot! so we can still end this season pretty good but these mistakes needs to stop happening sooner rather than later or i will be canceling my sky sports package! lol :)
ReplyDeletesorry m8 got to disagree with you how will blasting them in public make them better players the mans a fair game bully,he speaks far to much in public about players one of the reasons why seasoned pros may not want to sign for him
ReplyDeletehow did we get in europe last year
ReplyDeleteits all right blaming the defence they were shocking but surley the attack should be able to score 3 against oldham, just a thought
ReplyDeleteEvery manager has a right to blast there players? Jose does it? SAF does it? this would make them work harder. Because they don't want to get a ear full again. Look at downing and hendo.... They've stepped up after Rodgers said they could be sold.
ReplyDeleteI agree...blasting them in public is our job. BR has to hold a team together. Praise in public, criticize in private. That being said, Coates and Skrtl were dismally bad. Robinson was marginally less bad. The defense as a whole was terrible. Joe Allen scored but other than that one shining moment was largely missing.
ReplyDeleteAs much as i hate the bitter bluenoses you can bet your life oldham wont bully them out the game, i saw a bit of an old houllier game last night & the team then was mainly full of giants, now its like something from the time bandits, we need some grizzly tw*ats in the team instead of just far*s that flicked off the ball like a bad jap b movie
ReplyDeleteAgree with their assessments which are, basically, that our defending was shambolic.
ReplyDeleteI'm not happy about yesterdays performance and result at all, but these things happen. They've happened to us in the past, they've happened to other top flight clubs this season, too.
Rodgers blamed the youngsters (eight out of the starting eleven) for not upping their game enough, for not doing good enough. And I agree with him. But he forgot to say that Skrtel and Jones, too, didn't play good at all.
And a good thought, too!
ReplyDeleteRodgers gets slammed for praising our players too. There's no pleasing some people.
ReplyDeleteThe facts are Rodgers picked a team to accomodate Borini and Allen 26 million almost a Carroll.
ReplyDeleterodgers head is elsewhere right now.. and we know where
ReplyDeletehad to wait a day soo that i wasnot soo passionate when i wrote this ..........
ReplyDeleteAnyone that has read my comments know my feelings about BR or FSG ...now dont get me wrong Idont have anything against BR the person just BR THE MANAGER OF LFC ....
firstly as much as i hope against hope that the man is learning and improving he seems to be suffering from the 1 step forward 2 steps backwards syndrome ..
Against Man U wat was said after the match ....REMEMBER GUYS ...play ur BEST TEAM and the let the cards fall ...
.wat he did for this match against Oldham play an inxeperianced Defense combanation , wisdom , coates , robinson and skrtyl ...
wat was he thinking ???
I can understand that he was saving players for the Arsnel match i.e. Gerrard BUT for Gods sakes play a strong mid and defense , rest Suarez and sturrige after we 2 nil up and then bring on fringe players ............
That said BR has now put himself in a spot >>>NO MORE excuses about the squard being thin as we have only Europa and the league to play for and the next 2 matches agaisnt Arsnel and man City are going to be the test ..KK won both these matches BUT we will allow BR 4 points a win Arsnel and a draw to Man City ...anything less and the voices of discontent will be growing at a more rapid pace ....And me think its time for to start looking at the man in the mirror when these match go the way they go .....He should know thats what being a manager of a big team is about ...Put on your Big Boy pants BR cuz this sure aint Swansea .
Dont deliver 4th and U deserve to go ....as for Hendry, he must be soo Red Faced right now that he fired KK cuz he doesnt get to see Wembly no more , no more , no more
I agree with the criticism of Rodgers for blaming the youngsters. He's just thrown them under the bus.
ReplyDeleteDalglish's 'everything's fine' style of post-match press conference annoyed some, but you've got to protect your players, especially your young ones.
This is the type of thing that should be dealt with behind the scenes. I'm not an idiot, I don't need a scapegoat (or scapegoats). I can work out who was to blame and I trust the manager to discipline the culprits behind the scenes.
What we got yesterday from Rodgers was a cop out, which is very disappointing.
Mark Lawenson is a "write what the Mancs want to read" I know which way my breads buttered, phoney. great player though he was. I put it down to sour grapes over Dalglish he has not had a good word for us since fickle fellow.
ReplyDeletehaters will be haters... you know the thing is Liverpool fans are so used to being disappointed. I dislike this fact as much as the next guy, but we must remember, this is the beginning of the BR revolution. Things are going to go wrong - we have to all just accept that and look forward to the next game. Keep suppoting!
ReplyDeleteGeez, I'm sure half of you ou's have been or actually go to Anfield - I envy you and I'll join you one day! REDS HONOR! But God forbit any of you take that negative attitude there!
I agree that lawro is a manc butt kisser but i have to agree with him that coates bottled it, i posted the same view in an earlier article, the guy still talks out his ar*e most of the time though
ReplyDeleteNo commanding midfield presence! and I'll say it again... this was SHelvey's game! Team selection BR... mustn't keep relying on former team favorites (Borini Allen - They even look similar). THere are other players in the squad with more quality, while these two are sttill adapting and developing their quality...
ReplyDeleteArgh that Jones fumble made me sick man!
ReplyDeleteWe needed a calm head in that team... this is all!
ReplyDeleteBut at least now we can focus on Europa and top 4...Backing the reds to bounce back against Arsenal!
Some of these comments are over the top - especially the last sentence. The main problem was Coates - another failed Dalglish signing - and the inexperience of the defence as a whole. Rogers had no choice but to rest some players before the Arsenal game. It's hardly his fault that the squad isn't strong enough when more players have exited the club than joined it since the summer. We needn't worry about the raging 'legends' rounding on a new manager with such relish. After a similar FA Cup exit a few years ago, they wanted Benitez out - in his three previous seasons he'd won the Champions League, the FA Cup and reached a second CL final. Rogers could be a great manager, but he needs time, a bit of support - and credit for some of the recent home performances.
ReplyDeleteCourtinho v Stoke, they are guaranteed 4 points a season off us.
ReplyDeleteRobinson deserved that dressing down. thats dissent to the clubs top player.
ReplyDeleteWhen Rodgers came in, there was unrest from some of the better youth players. The board realised they had to do something to stop those players leaving. The whole reason we didn't buy clint was to open up a 6 month window where the unsettled youth players would get a chance. The board was ready to burn the cup competitions in order to learn which of the kids is upto it. They are signed now, no danger of them leaving.
Next phase is to flood the attacking positions to generate real competition and to boost performance levels.
suarez, sturridge, downing, sterling, coutinho, ince, suso, enrique and borini should provide at least one lethal attacking combo. ( luis, sturridge, coutinho and ince/sterling would be my choice).
The kids have been given a fair chance, and we know the good and the bad of each player.
I say loan out jonjo, suso, robinson, coates and flanners and bring in a GK and CB, on top of ince and coutinho.
There's no room for jumped up attitudes , especially from non first team youth players. its time to separate the wheat from the chaff and spend some cash on upgrades.
Coates was fouled for one goal, Robinson was at fault for two goals. We have a better player in the reserves than Courtinho or Suso - fact - his name is Texiera.
ReplyDeleteMeant to say get flicked off the ball :)
ReplyDeleteno his name is connor coady and he does not come from mars
ReplyDeletebrendan had this coming - we were useless
ReplyDeleteWe lost 3-0 at Man City last season.
ReplyDeleteagree 100% jason..it would be nice if hed have come out and said the loss is down to me and took the players responsable to one side in private and read the riot act...it wont happen because two of the worst culprits allen and borini where signed by him....hes the worst type of hypocite ,,,when its going well he says I when where losing he says we
ReplyDeletewe where exposed tactically once again by a 3rd rate team....
ReplyDeleteno he only praises some players and only criticizes others he the king of inconsistant
ReplyDeletewhat revolution is this having nothing to play for in Jan
ReplyDeletethey play football in front of public whats the difference, robinson and coates were just an embarrassment to the club with performance and attitude especially robinson.
ReplyDeletebrendon done right, man up take it on the chin if you cant handle it, leave.
everton have just signed a giant called the bouncer...that coupled with felleini gives them real presance...we have allen and sterling
ReplyDeletewhat like beating norwich ?
ReplyDeleteloan out jojo and suso....your joking id sooner loan out allen and borini...at least jonjo gets stuck in
ReplyDeleteWhile going to Anfield is quite an experience, for a Liverpool supporter anyway, don't expect the atmosphere be as good as you might think it is. It usually is fantastic on European nights and for the bigger games, but to be honest, most of the time I found the atmosphere not that special at all. And it has nothing to do with the out-of-towners/day-trippers/tourists, because it was like that when I went there for the first time in the 80s (standing, on the Kop), when flying to a place like Liverpool was much less affordable than it is today.
ReplyDeleteYep, and I saw it coming as he had fumbled the ball a few times before that. In hindsight, we could have played Gulacsi, too.
ReplyDeletewell said by the ex pros, who we all remember for all the right reasons, sadly half of this team will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
ReplyDeletehandful of real whimps with a poor pathetic attitude and big disrespect to the opposition and the club and fans.
Rodgers should of been shrewd from at least half time, even though he could not make that amount of subs to replace the $hit.
robinson-allen-borini or coates should of been hauled off.
has borini actually had a decent game since he arrived, and allen is just woeful in all departments, coates has just got worse, probably sulking through lack of chances!
not one player played well that started, you could go on !!
Yeah i heard they picked him up from mcdonalds, ive heard the yanks have applied for a dispensation from the f.a. to see if we can wear yankee football kits next season :)
ReplyDeletewere you from dude?
ReplyDeletestop blaming the squad ..its rogers who has sold and loaned out players and bought crap...we are now only in one competition so this small squad talk is just a smokescreen to hide rogers incompetance as a manager
ReplyDeleteid have carroll over borini and allen any time of the week
ReplyDeletewhat quality...im sorry sa i watch borini and allen real close and see nothing...no skill...no pace....no presance...just what do they both do
ReplyDeleteJeez, off topic i know but have u read about that teenager who,s been found 6 stone lighter & half blind after 2 months in an australian bush? That must have been some woman , lol
ReplyDeleteGermany
ReplyDeleteClassic evisceration!
ReplyDeletepeople who say rogers should of played this player instead of that player its just hypothetical whos to say he played a different team and the result was still the same ,then what would people say , at the end of the day these players are playing for liverpool and when they put that shirt on they should fight every inch for it and sorry to say some didnt , coates fair to say he hasnt had the game time he needs and going into a game like that you do need game time under your belt , if anything maybe carragher on teh day would of been a better option but whos to say the result would of been different , the team as whole with the players they had on that park should of scored enough despite the defence struggling but they didnt , these players earn more in a week than some people earn in a year and i guarantee if people didint perform at their respective jobs they would be heading for the unemployment lines not their managers , these youngsters had a chance to prove them selves and just because rogers publically blasts them for not doing it, hes questioned for it ,no sorry to say thats what was needed and now if they get another opportunity they might actaully step up to the plate to avoid the humilation .
ReplyDeleteMy perception differs from yours (I hope you don't think I am belittling you with this statement!), but one player he praised a lot earlier in the season was Joe Allen.
ReplyDeleteWell... I've only ever really experienced football in RSA. It's pretty nice, but vuvuzela's can get a bit annoying... and we don't have songs like Anfield road, YNWA and songs for the players etc. Rugby is probably a better sport to support atmosphere wise.
ReplyDeleteWhen i watch smaller games on the telly, it seems like the fans are in a sort of meditation. I think as a collective the fans aren't over the top, they make a noise when it's warranted. maybe just hasn't been that warranted in recent times...
we beat them in the FA cup
ReplyDeleteHa! Negative nancey
ReplyDeleteI actually don't think this is true. When we win he also says we or they (the players).
ReplyDeleteIt would actually be interesting to see how our supporters, pundits and the media would react if Rodgers, or any other manager, publicly admitted that defeats were down to him. I very much advocate honesty in every day life, but wouldn't a football manager undermine his own authority if he came out with such statements?
Act strong when you're weak and weak when you're strong... if BR said it was his fault all the time he might be out of a job, or worse, have the players lose confidence in HIM.
ReplyDeleteIt's better for a few young pups still growing to get the blast instead of entire team losing faith in the managers' ability.
exactly my point allen is crap but rogers wont say nothing about him
ReplyDeleteRobinson is not good enough and never will be. Poor attitude and lack of respect towards a senior player. Disgraceful! Coates fouled? He bottled it. No passion or aggression. Both need to go.
ReplyDeleteTHey possess it, maybe you see different things to me. Allen was standout in his first 5-10 games for Liverpool. Borini is a proven finisher, but is forced to play out of position and both adapting to the pressures that Anfield demands you perform under.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest resounding factor is that they are both still young. I know this has been said a million times but I will repeat it - look at Lucas and where he came from to get all of our backing and near legend status...I'll agree their performance is not up to par... YET! They should be squad players satisfied with a bench appearance.
I get were you're coming from concerning Shelvey, but people on various forums slated him badly recently and questioned Rodgers for giving him more game-time in the subsequent weeks. Someone recently said something along the lines that Rodgers has got one of the most difficult jobs to have (Chib Akobundu), and I agree with him. No matter who he picks, some people will slate him. It's impossible to please all of us anyway, as we have so many differing opinions amongst us.
ReplyDeleteYep... jones is prone to the odd F-Up... then again, so is Gulacsi
ReplyDeleteWe need a new keeper
Pick the strongest team and let the cards lie!
ReplyDeleteI like Rogers... he surprises me sometimes with brilliant tactics. Sometimes he picks the first team I called to the T, but his inconsistency and over-experimentation are his weaknesses... but hey people always say there is a thin line between genius and insanity...
ReplyDeleteEven after that FA cup flop I'm still 100's behind him. He's doing things that managers haven't done at Liverpool since the 80's maybe. Since our golden days, the club became more concerned with maintaining the status quo - this I believe is what lead to our decline, and the rise of you know who... they were more forward thinking on all levels and stuck with one manager - this I believe is what Pool are doing now
Rogers brings a fresh breath, a dynamism and philosophies compatible with that of Paisley and Shankly. Dalglish V1 was great, but he was more or less Status quo, Souness was status quo and look where that got him...
Houlier brought something different, but perhaps a dilution of the clubs core philosophies (non British, different style etc.). Benitez - revolutionary, but too defensive for my taste - Liverpool is an attacking side (I totally loved Rafa's best team, don't get me wrong!), Hodgeson - Oh MY GOD! No, just no!
KEnny V2 lacked the street savvyness needed in todays game - bad signings and just an overwhelming dose of bad luck haunted him. That said though Kenny healed the club, gave Liverpool it's soul back and I'm sure we're all grateful to him for that (plus being in Europe is not too bad either).
Rogers has done alot in a short time... at least that's the way I see it...
hella sa_red , im from everton which is 2minute walk up the hill from anfield , of course we're fuming but today is another day , and arsenal are next , the second half again oldham we got at them , its difficult play these less teams cos the treat it as a semi final a do or die occassion , and liverpool would be a big scalp too , well played oldham yous deserve it, we can now consintrate on trying to clime the table we can do it too , at least 4th place , which is so important to the club to to amazing supporters now we can roar the lads on , be a real 12 man WE CAN DO IT WE NEED TO GET RIGHT BEHIND THE LADS ROARING THEM ONNNNNNN ,for me the fa cup isnt the same , as it was say 25yrs ago , we need champs league , and we still can do it , all the teams will take points off each other from now on in to end of season we just need to get points especially at arsenal , im living in south devon , im actually going to the old gunner supporter bit of food , handshake befor games starts , best team on the night wins , sa_red liverpool are moving forward sometimes looks slowly but we're doin ok for now , keep ye chin up lad
ReplyDeleteWhy blame them when it was choice to select them. you had 3 inexperienced defenders lined up with skertal who has experience but no composure. Suprise suprise all three goals should have been defended much better. The midfield failed to control the game. The foward played too close together with the three fowards of Borini Suarez and DS, not to mention Sterling who kept coming inside.
ReplyDeleteOf course he is. The players stank.
ReplyDeleteNo, get humiliated by a team like Oldham and be positive about it. That's the way forward. You LFC fans really deserve the rubbish team you supoort.
ReplyDeleteActually, if he was crap he would be better than he is. His speciality is the two yard pass.
ReplyDeleteA proven finisher? Yes, he looked like a proven finisher.
ReplyDeleteThey couldn't have played worse if they had been under a bus before the match. They were an utter and total disgrace and you don't do anybody any favours by pretending otherwise. Having said that, it was BR who put them in the team.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least he was a great player. Which is a damn sight more than useless Coates will ever be.
ReplyDeleteHe also needs to actually win something. Don't hold your breath. By recent home performances were you referring to the utterly shameful defeat by Aston Villa?
ReplyDeleteGood comments. Nice to know one supporter has got his head screwed on right.
ReplyDeleteOh, vuvuzelas. When I first heard them during the Confed Cup, I thought my TV set was broken. They've banned them in most places where I live, also in football grounds I think.
ReplyDeleteI think in the seventies and (up to mid-) eighties the atmosphere was better in England. Back then I only got an hour of highlights on Monday night on the sports channel. Actually my English only improved because I listened to BBC World Service every Saturday. Back then I found the football and atmosphere in England much better than on the continent, but in recent years the fan-culture has improved here a lot, as well as the football. Hope it changes for better again in England.
My point wasn't that Allen is crap.
ReplyDeleteThink I read the other day that the average distance of an Allen pass is 18 metres.
ReplyDeleteBut Gulacsi has age on his side. If he isn't considered good enough we should let him go. Yes, we need a new keeper or two.
ReplyDeleteShould have played carra all day long. Coates needs regular football. Needs to be loaned out.
ReplyDeleteRubbish Jaimie,
ReplyDeleteBR has every right to Dress down his players considering the dire effort they put in, Fergies hairdryer never seemed to hurt Utd players. Tough love is the way forward, pandering to ego is never gonna get LFC anywhere. Professional footballers are paid to play football as we are to work our jobs, i don't know about you but if i don't perform at work i get chewed out why should Footballers be any different? Downing seems to have come round after some tough love from BR.
Rodgers needs to go. We were beaten by the same problems that have been there all season. Our defence lacks protection with this 'wonderful' system. How much longer do we wait for him to turn us into mid table wonders?
ReplyDeleteAlso surprised that not one of the ex pros had a pop at the boss for his dismal tactics. He was outthought by Paul Dickov.
ReplyDeleteStill give him time, he MIGHT get things right in 3-4 years, in the meantime get used to getting regularly spanked as we are the new Swansea.
Your positive thinking is really commendable! I read comments on here all day, and it's really depressing at times, but you try to see the positives in everything and that's probably exactly what I needed before I go to bed in a minute. Onwards and upwards.
ReplyDeleteBetter be roaring when I come there!
ReplyDeletepeh... stop your crying
ReplyDeleteLiverpool is the best kak team!
Always son! Ynwa...
ReplyDeleteBoom! rock on mate...
ReplyDeleteYou usually blast players in public contributing.
ReplyDeleteBut those aren't his speciality. Those are the ones that go straight to the opposition. What a waste of money.
ReplyDeleteWhen we won 5 - 0 Norwich, everybody talking about our exciting team... Rodgers was talking about Suarez - Sturridge duo, newspapers about Henderson and Coutinho, and nobody (except Dickov) about the Oldham clash... All I know is that their players were prepared to win or die, while our players (and our manager as well) maybe thought that we can win with our big name and history only!!! We are not a serious team guys and our coach is talking too much about everything... That's why we are standing to much in the last match and not preparing mentally (above anything else) for our next... We have many good players but they don't now nothing about the team they are playing (only Gerrard knows) and nothing about the misery in the real world (maybe Lucas know something about that)... They know how to earn millions, but they are not ready to fight and bleed on the pitch for their money...
ReplyDeleteKevRed, you are absolutely correct about the lack of protection. The performances of our defence and goalkeeper may have been error-strewn, but you cannot expect to win with a non-existent midfield. Rodgers is at fault for that. The combination of Allen and Henderson was wrong - no authority in midfield. And he blames the youngsters.....
ReplyDeleteYes, but you don't get chewed out to the media.
ReplyDeleteI believe Coates was fouled, but he was never gonna get the decision because he made no real attempt to go for the ball. I totally agree with your views on Robinson. I don't think I've been impressed by any of his performances.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind if i were getting their wages, besides they're Entertainers apparently hence their high wages and if u aren't entertained u can complain.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool have got no right to lose to a team who are in a lower division and getting relegated. I totally blame Rogers and the whole team. That was an awful performance from over-paid players who earn 50times more then any Oldham player. No heart and no fight. Its time to get rid of the whole team apart from Suarez.
ReplyDeleteTalk about throwing the baby out with the bath water KevRed, progress has been made we play better football than we did last year, Rodgers is doing a good job and why change him now? Give BR till the end of the season and look at it then, Besides who would you suggest could do a better job with what he has squad wise?
ReplyDeleteWe scored 2 goals. That should be enough to win any match.
ReplyDeletethe buck lies with the players, your pulling on the red shirt regardless! all fans want to see is players give there all, especially ones with limited chances. effort and bottle was a joke.
ReplyDeleteeven downing is consistently giving it a go, attacking and defending !!
hes earning a bit of respect amongst fans
Your english is a credit to you mate, ive worked/lived in germany in the past & can talk the language but if you asked me to write it then it would be awful
ReplyDeleteLol, true :)
ReplyDeletego support man city then you muppet , expect miracles in what 6 months lmao , alex ferguson didint do nothing at man united for how long and look at what hes achieved , biggest thing our club has lacked is stability and already you want a new manager lmao ,all your he should of played this player that player is all hypothetical bull shit , because either way whos to say teh result wouldnt be the same , blame rogers you should blame the players its not rogers fault jones cant hold a ball in his hands its not his fault his players didint put 6 in teh net despite the defenders having a bad day .like seriously no wonder as a club we dont move forward with supporters who are quick to drag us back with negative tripe ,
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely mate. He does it with senior players so there is no reason to walk on eggshells around the youngsters. It's bad enough guys like Coates and Robinson need any motivation other than their own when they get a chance to show what their worth which is, judging by sunday's performance, not very much. Rodgers is absolutely right to do what he did. He answers to the fans as we are what keeps him in a job and this club alive. After that result and performance, we deserved an explanation and demanded harsh actions and we got exactly what we deserved. Guys like Robinson and Coates are in a position that millions of kids worldwide would give their right arm and leg for and even if they did, they would still put in a better performance against Oldham than these guys did. The way I see it, everyone got exactly what they deserved on Sunday. Oldham got a well deserved win. We got a well deserved reaction from our manager and the players who deserved it got a public ear washing. They're happy enough to be in the public eye when things go well so they shouldn't complain when criticism is done in public as well. Finally, if they feel agrieved by this somehow because of the manner it was done, they should get their priorities straight as the only thing they should be worried about is their lacklustre performance.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen
ReplyDeleteagree m8 but why pick on the youngsters most of the side could have been made scapegoats rodgers took the easy option
ReplyDeleteyou have missed the boat m8 the reason anfield his dead these days,is because real fans cannot afford to go or get tickets, when i used to go weekly in the 80s,you paid on the gate it was about£2.50 on the kop for the big games vouchers were given out against the lesser clubg eg,you went and watched lfc v oxford you got a voucher for the man ure game, making sure the real fans were at most games, most away grounds you could pay on the gate as well, paid at gate old trafford, only away games i ever got a ticket for was everton ,used to love going in the paddock at goodison friendly derby my ass,not when i was in there it was not ,oh the good old days, king kenny and could he play
ReplyDeletebut iam not the manager and i post on here i dont run to the media
ReplyDeleteWell, if I was to give one advice to anybody going to Anfield it would be: Do your homework in advance and try to learn as many songs as you can. One of the best experiences one can get is starting a song and hear the entire stand joining in :-) That's an incredible feeling.
ReplyDeleteand so wer many more but no mention of them borini and allen were as bad
ReplyDeleteThanks very much! Where exactly did you live.
ReplyDeletesorry m8 allen has never been standout sometimes you see things better than they are because you want them to be true
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling us. Just out of curiosity, why do you care about Liverpool when you are a Juventus supporter? Do you draw satisfaction from our infights or ou club not doing as good as it could?
ReplyDeleteHe did well in the absence of Lucas and his first few games were good. You can't really deny that...
ReplyDeleteHe had good balance etc. but when you play for a club like Liverpool, you get analyzed and dissected by opposition, hence why he has come so horribly short in recent times. He has o rise above all that and improve himself. I'm not a fan of his mate, but you have to see his potential based on those first few games...
If i was Coates, Robinson and even Sterling i would have expected to get blasted by the manager. I would take it on the chin as i would know i had let the team down and work harder to ensure it wont happen again. These guys are professional footballers and will know when they look back at that game that it was not good enough so i dont see what difference BR saying what they already knew will make apart from to reaffirm to them that they need to be better.
ReplyDeletelol were fighting a losing battle he could take us down and some would still say he needs time
ReplyDeletei can deny it like i said sometimes you see what your heart wants you to see,hes been average at his very best
ReplyDeleteand how many chances did we fluff
ReplyDeleteI would agree with you mate if only their performance was lacking and not the effort. Their attitude was crap throughout the match, almost expecting to be given goals. Robinson, Sterling and as much as I am a fan of the guy, Coates were horrible. Allen was non-existent and the same with Henderson when he played center mid. IMO, Rodgers was right in questioning them. Having said that Rodgers himself had to take a lot of the blame playing Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Borini. It had no semblance of a formation with Borini and Sterling staying in, offering no width. The quicker he realises Borini is a striker playing off the last defender, the better for all
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone should point out to FSG that 96 people perished in the hope of watching their team get to Wembley for a "domestic cup competition". So I imagine it seemed fairly important to them....
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't down our list of priorities in 1989, and NEVER SHOULD BE.
I remember putting my German skills to good use after the Alaves game. We were staying in Leverkusenand unwittingly strayed into what we had been told was a "topless bar" but turned out to be a brothel. When one of the ladies asked where we had been and what the score was I triumphantly said " Funf-Vier". To which I got the reply, "This is not a football score you silly Eeengliiiish boy".
ReplyDeleteJust read on the Official Website that we'll be wearing "Seeing Is Believing" on our shirts against West Brom. Pity we couldn't have found a bottling plant to sponsor us........
ReplyDelete:(
have to agree. you can't wrap the cherubs up in cotton wool all the time. they are young in terms of age but if they want to play with the big boys, they must take the rough with the smooth.
ReplyDeleteYou say this because the fee combined comes near to £35m... Michael Carrick cost £18m for Man U and let's just say he was not fans favourite when he first joined. So instead of having a dig at a new player in his first 6 months look at what he can become in the next 3-5 season. Lets just say if he trains hard and has the passion he will be a completely diffrent player.
ReplyDeleteWould Brendan Rodgers have talked about philosophy and mentality to Tommy Smith? If he had he would have received short shrift!
ReplyDeleteThe old school talked about 'ball winning', 'goal scoring' strategy and tactics and left all this other crap up to sports writers who never played the game at a significant level.
Please Mr Rodgers keep all this high falutin talk to yourself and lets see some real progress on the pitch from the players who are lucky enough to represent Liverpool FC.
Apart from the obvious factors for our defeat, it is quite clear that when we play with Borini and the increasingly ineffective yet massively over rated Sterling we must have Enrique and Johnson behind them to do ALL of their attacking. Borini has just come back from injury so ill cut im some slack BUT Sterling is nowhere near ready to pull on a LFC shirt, he's an impact sub at best. The kid cant play back to goal, which is what he is asked to do in a 433 and continually gives the ball away. He is a 442 winger who given time and space can run at you. His adaption into a 433 seems a long way off.
ReplyDeleteweve played better with shelvey out of the team id rather have spearing back than shelvey
ReplyDeleteagreed turn the hairdryer on indoors
ReplyDeleteDo we want players who think they will get away with awful performances?? I don't.
ReplyDeleteno we don,t but they were no worse than most of the rest
ReplyDeleteBit more on the Rodgers' comments on the young lads, although disagree with the "sort of" credit he gives Allen and Hendo. They were poor, they didn't protect and they didn't hussle either. Agree with Rodgers that we did not press enough, nowhere near enough. Seemed like to me that some of the players expected Oldham to let us play our usual game and that we didn't have to work hard for it. I see where he is coming from in relation young players and the lack of loan experience but on the other hand, there are examples where a player has developed fine without a loan spell. It comes down to the manager to judge his development. Maybe he isn't helped by the small squad and has to push them through quick. But ideally, a manager shouldn't be playing a young player if he is too raw/inexperienced/not ready/not developed. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, i.e., he has to do it take risks with their development and use them early as he has a small squad.

I dont think it's too late yet michael, imo,br has to gain respect and control in the change room,i admit his head is probably completely, screwed up,what with the window and media scrutiny at every turn.In regard to "respect",i mean, instill some into these younger inexperianced players, robinson on the w/end he did't turn away head down mumbleing,he stood there for all to see and told Suarez to F##k OFF!Get in that change room BR and slam the door.
ReplyDeleteI think that BR underestimated Oldham...
ReplyDeleteHe played Suarez as attacking midfielder centre :O
Why not play with 3 real midfielders which would allow a better grip on the midfield?!
A few decisions BR made so far are baffling... Sometimes he seems clueless... N he needs to understand the midfielding part of football xD. He seems to have no idea that the midfield is the most decisive part of the game...
jamie youre a hack
ReplyDeleteRobinson should be sold, he was horrible. Wisdom has made a lot of mistakes this season, he always worries also. Coates at least has potential

ReplyDeleteDarmstadt, its near frankfurt am main
ReplyDeleteCoincidentally I'v applied for a job in that area. Do you get any noise from the Frankfurt airport in Darmstadt?
ReplyDeleteFunny story!
ReplyDeleteEvery person connected to LFC has a responsibility, and no one is above criticism.
ReplyDeleteFor me Brendan was barmy to have a back for with only ONE of them being experienced! and then four attacking midfilders to bolster things (not)
I think everyone can see the "Coates" issues. We had a very laid back Henchoz play for us who had plenty about him, but Coates always looks like he needs a bomb under him! The mind and body are SLOW!
Robinson's F off to Suarez I think will earn him his last appearance of the season.
Why is'nt anyone critical of Brenden Rodgers for putting out an inexperienced side?
ReplyDeletewell said m8
ReplyDelete100 % Jim ...we should neva let the americans make us forget our values ........
ReplyDeletehe should have blamed himself FIRST ...He put out and inexperianced Back Line and weak Mid .... hes the manager he must take the blame ...same thing happen in the Man U match ...taught he learnt his leasson ...i was wrong
ReplyDelete433 dont work and hasn t for decades to quote an england manager now long ago .when asked wot system he would be playing he replied 4 4 fuckin2!
ReplyDelete1) Please donot call me a Muppet
ReplyDelete2) Alex Ferguson was already pedigree BEFORE he came to UTD with him WINNING the SCOTTISH LEAGUE for 3 years with a high unfancied team INCLUDING winning the UEFA
soooo Before U come BR to Fergie i suggest you go learn about what you talk about before insulting me ...see i know all these facts cuz im not plastic and i dont jump onto the Br like Fergie bandwagon ...Im an independant thinker and a LIVERPOOL supporter of more than 30 years ...I support Liverpool and NOT FSG or BR .....BIG difference and ive given managers time ...like Houllier , Like Rafa , like King Kenny but not the likes of BR who has no experiance to manage a team the size of Liverpool
3 ) Jaimie this is the double standards i was talking about the other day ....
Lol fall , lie ...just pick the best team ...full stop
ReplyDeletetotally agree with you there, possibly worse
ReplyDeleteThank you. A well put point.
ReplyDeleteI am not prepared to comment on who would do a better job - my feeling is we have been blighted by the same problems all season:
ReplyDelete- vulnerable to counter attacks
- vulnerable to long balls
- vulnerable to physical teams
I would expect any experienced manager to have done something about this by now.
And as for playing better football than last season - are you sure? Well I suppose if you like neat little predictable triangles, playing out from the back very slowly so the opposition get time to get into position........ and even when we are 3-1 down.
Screw the philosophy - just get some wins.
My own feeling is that Rodgers is too arrogant in his own abilities and he keeps blowing off pork pies at press conferences and praising the fans.
ReplyDeleteI wish he would do his talking through his team on the pitch. He needs to build up a track record pretty quick. I would reckon he needs to get 4th to stay in a job now.
So he's basically fucked then.
ReplyDeleteagree m8 but rodgers ego will not let him publicly point the finger at his own signings
ReplyDeleteagree 100%jim but i dont think the fans are high on fsgs list our money well thats a different subject
