'We're following him' - Euro giants interested in 'wonderful' €10m LFC star.

Liverpool are reportedly exploring the possibility of cutting short Nuri Sahin's loan deal, and if the Turk ends up leaving during the January transfer window, his old club Borussia Dortmund could be a possible destination.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild yesterday, Dortmund Sporting Director Michael Zorc confirmed that the Bundesliga giants are monitoring Sahin's situation at Anfield. He said:

"Of course we are following Nuri's career - he's one of our lads.

"We said to him back then [when he left], if Nuri says that he wants nothing other than to play in Dortmund, then we will deal with the issue.

"But it has got to be manageable, and nothing has changed in that regard."

Dortmund’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke is also open to the idea, as he revealed recently:

“Which player who has left us is happier now - Kagawa? Sahin? Barrios? No one. If Nuri he comes to me and says he doesn't want anything else than playing in Dortmund, we will think about this issue. But it has to be feasible".

By his own admission, Sahin - who cost Real Madrid €10m in 2011 - prefers to play in a deeper role, and that hasn't happened at LFC. The Turk admitted as much in an interview with the official Liverpool FC website last month:

"I’ve played my whole career deeper – that’s my position, but I have played as a number ten here. If I could choose a position it would be holding, as I feel more comfortable playing deeper and can give my all.”

Whatever happens, I think it's doubtful that Sahin will still be at Liverpool next season. He's only been at the club for 4 months, and despite Lucas being injured for most of that time, he hasn't managed to command a regular first team place. Additionally, with Lucas, Gerrard and Allen practically guaranteed to start most matches for the Reds, it's difficult to see where Sahin fits in.

Sahin passed a medical at Arsenal on the 23rd August, before ultimately signing for Liverpool, and Rodgers - who describes Sahin as 'a wonderful player technically and tactically' confirmed this in August 2012. He told reporters:

"The player had his mind set on going to Arsenal and we had to convince him to join us instead. That was very difficult, because Arsenal can offer Champions League football and they play a style of football suited to his qualities"

Perhaps Sahin would've been better off signing for the Gunners...?

  2. If he don't want to be here then we don't want him.

  3. get rid if rodgers dose not want him why the f"ck did he sign him also if he goes along with cole, morgan on loan thats 3 out 1 in ,so he better sign some one because hes already moaned the squads to small ,so its up to him to sort it out

  4. Blimey Jase, do you EVER not moan about Brendon? Lol

I already posted tahat we should engineer a swap between Inter and us for Sneijder, he's a good player but looked a bit lost in the hurly burly world of the PL

    ReplyDelete
  5. are you deluded how the f"ck can we swap a player thats not ours for someone else, think madrid mite have something to say about that, also its not moaning its fact rodgers has stated numerous times about squad strenght so getting rid of 3 squad players and signing one makes no sense

  6. Strange how BR sounded like he wanted Nuri and then gave up on him quickly.

  7. Blimey Jason, I actually agree with you and was thinking the same kind of thing....Didn't Ayre and Werner say there would be funds available in January if the manager wanted? Now I am hearing there is no money for anyone else, possibly one minor signing? Yet we have just let 2 players go, possibly Sahin as well. We were told Cole's wages were a major stumbling block for bringing in others, yet this is no longer relevant! For a squad already so thin, (3) out and 1 in is absolute bollocks and the fiasco of the summer window is being made worse! Absolutely ridiculous! Top four my backside!!!!!

  8. Perhaps the improving form of both Henderson and Downing is making BR think twice about having to sign additional players. Henderson is certainly capable of internalising BR's 'system' well even from his time under KD, while Downing is likely to be around for at least the rest of the season.

  9. Agree with Downing and Henderson improving their form, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that for a club with the aspirations that we have, our squad size is simply not good enough. We were fed with tales that the fiasco of summer would be put right in this window. How is that the case if we end up with 2 less players than before? Regardless of the form of anyone else..

  10. Sadly Sahin lack to much tempo to play in our midfield, but technically and tactically he is still way ahead of the rest of them except Gerrard. And still when playing out of position he was just as big a threat to the goal as the rest of our midfield players have been. So personally its sad to see a player (that was world class for Dortmund and im sure would have been class for us) leaving us while we keep average players like Shelvey and Henderson... just hope we could see Sahin playing deep beside Leiva like Gerrard have done the last matches and we would see our new Alonso.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sahin is average...forget about where hes from or what you are told..hes average.....sahin and leiva together are you joking ....thats a dull as dishwater combo......henderson has pi**ED all over sahin this year ( excuse beef )

  12.  whats the point of keeping him if he doesn't rate him....he fancied him he tried him got him and its not working...so get sout

  13. I think Mike may be getting at the rumours in some parts of the media that have suggested we have agreed to cover Sahin's wages for the year meaning we can only cancel the loan if we can get someone else to take over the loan. Whether or not that is true is up for debate.

    ReplyDelete
  14. BR has not commented on that so we don't know, all we can see from the outside is that Sahin is not being played so that seems quite telling.

  15. Sahin have played 12 games and most out of position and he got 3 goals, Henderson have played 23 games with as much as 1 goal. And he have had a full season with Liverpool and one and a half season i think with Sunderland while Sahin just arrived in the PL. So cant really see why "safe pass" Henderson has been so impressive, all he got is a decent engine, rest is really poor. And fair enough Sahin has been average for Liverpool but if you call him average you should really watch some more football than just Liverpool matches. And the reason i want to see him next to Leiva is to relieve him from some of the defencive dutys while still staying deep.

  16. I would have expected Sahin to get a chance in his favoured position as either a deep playmaker or holding midfielder whilst Lucas was out but I suspect BR felt Allen and Sahin in the 2 deeper CM roles was a bit lightweight perhaps.

It's a shame that we have allegedly shelled out a decent loan fee and are paying at least 60k pw (if not more) for a player that is not being used. Not the best business for us but unfortunately this type of business has gone on for a few years now with much money being wasted.

I would think Shelvey and now the emerging Henderson would be better options for us so do we still need to have Sahin on the books. The money could be better spent elsewhere I think.

As for money available, I think there is money available for 1 more signing (probably Ince) but I think publically BR keeping his cards close to his chest as Blackpool were being asking for an unrealistic price from Liverpool (partly the way they do business it seems, perhaps Liverpool perceived as a soft touch in recent times and this clause Liverpool have where they receive about 35% [allegedly] of any future transfer fee). I get the feeling the clubs are close to completing a deal on this one though.

The rumours before were that we had around 20M to spend this Jan, 12M has gone on Sturridge supposedly, another 5M or so is alleged to be going on Ince, and the other 3M - well that could have been Joe Cole's pay off, I beleieve Liverpool paid him off around half the value of what his wages would have been for the 18 months left on his deal which I think is around the 3-3.5M bracket and we also have the new deal for Sterling. This would bring Liverpool's outlay to around or a bit over 20M which is not too bad imo (as long as we get Ince).

I think there is going to be a bit more business done in the summer, the new TV deal, better deals/players available - it is a balancing act though - if we dont have a good enough finish to this season then that can compromise who we can get this summer. Also, there are a few decent free transfers coming up this summer so it is possible we are already negotiating on multiple fronts there for all we know.

  17. He lacks pace and power needed for the premier league but so does joe Allen can't accommodate both of them

    ReplyDelete
  18. Because rodgers doesnt have a crystal ball to say "HEY THIS GUY WONT WORK OUT!".
but do agree i see movement out but for a small squad we should be adding to it shouldnt we?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Same does Shelvey and Henderson, i those are the first ones i get rid of.

    ReplyDelete
  20. He should have been given more opportunities so far. It's a shame because he's a real talent.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You told me 3 weeks ago we need to freshen things up and that "SAHIN needs a run in the team" and now you come up with this comment. My view is he's got talent and is technically strong but is lazy, weak and will let a game pass him by.
You've recently changed your opinion from get him in the side to a harsh statement that conveniently coincides with HENDERSON's good form and rumours of a SAHIN departure.

    ReplyDelete
  22. He never gave him TIME, i think he is top talent that was not given a proper run of games, BR kept playing in the wrong position. And we barely have any cover in the DMC role if gerrard or Lucas gets injured, I see Sahin as much better option than shelvey

    ReplyDelete
  23. Don't you think it's bit bloody harsh on the player when he was not even given a proper run of games to settle. He is a top player, wouldn't have won a 'player of the year' if he was crap.

BR kept playing him in the wrong position. I think we need to keep him till summer, if Gerrard or Lucas gets injured we barely have cover, He is a much better option than Shelvey.

  24.  a weeks a long time in politics and ive got more faces than a town hall clock

    ReplyDelete
  25. Baffled by this why after Sahin choose us ahead of Arsneal was he not giving a proper run in the team. Closest player too an Alonso we will ever get and BR wont play him.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sahin and Assaidi are both mysteries and yet Allen keeps getting games without any goals and assists .....lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sahin may well be a good player, but he doesn`t get played anymore, we will never know the reasons, maybe he doesn`t like life here, maybe him and rodgers fell out, maybe he is rubbish in training, either way, if he aint playing no point in keeping him here. I would rather he went and we used the cash on someone BR will play

    ReplyDelete
  28. Until lately, Allen has been playing in Lucas`s role. not many DM`s in the world get goals. Now Lucas is back, I bet Allen will score a few

    ReplyDelete
  29. Noi I'm not deluded- If the club can find another club willing to take on the terms of the loan, then they would be in a position to move him on, of course it requires RM's permission but they would probably get another loan fee as well as his wages paid for them.

Which is why I said engineer a swap...

Of course, the two are separate deals, but since Inter reportedly express an interest, it would be like a swap.

As for moaning, it's just that there are no end of posts by you all with an anti Rodgers theme. I don't think it's a stretch to say you're not a big fan.

And it's squad players with enough class to actually contribute we're short of. Morgan doesn't play, Joe Cole hardly does and cost us £92k per week. Hardly the end of the world, and the window has only just opened

    ReplyDelete
  30. Exactly right. He's on a big wage, we need that money to attract the right players, we can cover his position better than some others

    ReplyDelete
  31. he had a spell in the team, he doesn't like the rough stuff and cant get stuck in, and wants to much time on the ball to be effective.
even if he was mustard, he could leave at any time so to speak. its a no brainer.
id have shelvey over him all day long ( who has been played out of position) he has more to his game.
what are a club like Liverpool doing loaning players like that anyway, there was no deal in place we could own if we wanted to!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. we can actually loan him out its been done before athletico loaned a player and then loaned him out im sure he was one of ours just cant seem to recall exactly who though

    ReplyDelete
  33. maybe but we cannot swap him for another player off another club

    ReplyDelete
  34. he didn't really try when he has not been picking him in the position that he finds most comfortable then when he speaks out he stops playing him altogether just feel that its a missed oppurtunity as he is a quality player and we should be utilising

    ReplyDelete
  35. exactly i hope he doesn't make a habit over this you work really hard to convince someone to join the club after they even had a medical at another team then you don't play them its not even the biggest deal as its a loan but he cant keep making a habit over this sign a player and then forget that they exist

    ReplyDelete
  36. not really previously we were told how thin our squad is and that january will be the time that this is corrected however we get one in and looks like we are trying to offload more every1 player we sign we get rid of 2

    ReplyDelete
  37. but looks like rodgers is making a habit of that he has done the same with assiadi who looks like a genuine top quality player that has so much pace and skill something that we have been missing and then he never plays i just hope that rodgers stops signing players and then not giving them a proper chance to prove themselves

    ReplyDelete
  38. not really, if you are a team player, you play where asked. gerrard was played out of position and didn't moan. get on with it or get out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. As i said before, of course they're separate deals but if Sahin goes on loan to inter, we may possibly be able to afford Sneijder's wages on loan.

Just because I said swap, it doesn't mean we will actually swap players, that's just the net result .Blimey.

    ReplyDelete
  40. sneijder,s going nowhere lo loan, they will sell him or keep him

    ReplyDelete
  41. Shelvey! i wish Sahin was given as much chances as it was for him. He has been awful in almost all the games he has played, wonder what good you see in him.

Sahin had brilliant games against WestBrom and Norwich. Showed glimpses of what he is capable of. He did have a couple bad games, but ofcourse he is going take some time to settle into the PL.

He has only played 7 games!what do you expect. And he never moaned about playing out of position, he just suggested he is best utilized as a deep playmaker but he mentions he would give his best at any position, but that he ONLY needed some time. Infact he has never in his career played in the advanced role, so it's foolish to expect him to perform from day 1.

    ReplyDelete
  42. He tried him??? played only 7 games, and of that only had like 4 games, and then dropped him. How many games did he give for players like dowining and Allen to settle in.

He never was given the proper chance.

    ReplyDelete
  43. thats 7 more than carroll

    ReplyDelete
  44. As I've said on the same topic in another thread, Rodgers possibly didn't expect Henderson to finally find his feet, just like many of us supporters. No that he starts performing it would be criminal to not play him in favour of a player who is here on loan. Why increase the value of a Real Madrid player at the expense of one of our own squad members. In other words, let Sahin go.
