Feyenoord Captain Stefan De Vrij has responded to rumours linking him with a January move to Anfield.
In an interview on Monday, De Vrij was asked about whether a move to Liverpool or Arsenal appealed to him at this stage. Despite being flattered by the interest, the 20-year old appeared to rule out a move. He said:
"It's nice to hear such big clubs are interested in you, but I'm not making a transfer. When you see how strong [Ron] Vlaar was when he left, then I still need some time"
Liverpool sent scouts to watch the player in action recently, and with Sebastian Coates' future increasingly up in the air, it seems likely that a new central defender will arrive at the club sooner rather than later.
Based on his previous comments, it doesn't appear that De Vrij is keen on moving to the Premier League anyway. In March 2011, he stated a preference for Spain or Germany:
"It'll be best for my career to move to Spain or Germany when I decide to leave Feyenoord... teams from those countries show better build-up play than English teams.
He reiterated his Spain desire in November 2012:
"It is my ultimate dream to eventually join Barcelona. I think I have what it takes to end up at a club like that at some point in my career"
According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are considering sending Coates out on loan in January, which will open up a vacancy in defence.

if they send him out on loan they must sign someone,or we will be in another andy carroll fiasco
ReplyDeleteNever watched that guy,but good choice loaning Coates.
ReplyDeleteCentral defenders mature much later in their careers.
ReplyDeleteIt's silly of us looking at anyone under 23-24 years of age.
We buy them too young and then they rot in the reserves or on the bench.
The fact this kid understands that, shows he's no dummy.
IMO, too young.
He's better off staying in the dutch league for now, he'll develop faster.
Wisdom, Kelly, Coates, Robinson, Flanagan, Coady, Spearing, Agger, Skrtel, Carra, McLaughlin, Sama, Jose enrique, Glen Johnson, Danny Wilson, Sokolik enough defensive players really.
ReplyDeleteWas that celebration after scoring from Downing a 'shut up' or?
ReplyDelete05 .10 am you got the shits mate!!!
ReplyDeleteHe was stunned himself as he wasn't expecting that he would score a senior goal for Liverpool ever.
ReplyDeleteSending Coates out on loan, makes sense, but only if it is too say a championship team or EPL team. I never see the point in sending players on loan to another country, unless the aim is to sell them. Coates needs game in England so he can start to fit into the English leagues. Why not see if Blackpool would take him on loan as part of the Ince deal? Not with a view to sign, just as a loan. Maybe get 1mil knocked off the price etc
ReplyDeleteLooked like a sshhh to his doubters to me
ReplyDeleteI agree here a lot, it is ok to buy them, young if you have a plan for them. WE often seem to buy them young, then sell them still young cause we are paying them too much, and want to move them on. I would loan out a lot of the younger group, so they gain playing time once they hit 20. give them two years in the Championship, then bring them back for another year so we can tweak them in training, then try them out.
ReplyDeleteI disagree Jason. We have other Defenders. Yes it would be good to sign someone, but I don`t think it is needed as much as other positions.
ReplyDeleteno don,t sleep much never have lol
ReplyDeletewell i dont think rodgers agrees with you because if we had he would have played one of them, given the way we have leaked goals this season
ReplyDeletebut half of them are not good enought
ReplyDeleteI think the leaking of goals is more down to our system than anything else
ReplyDeletemaybe to some extent,i would keep coates, but we would need another centerback if he goes
ReplyDeleteI think he used the wrong finger lol!
ReplyDeleteMy reason for my system comment, is Swansea all shipped loads of goals. We push up slowly which leaves us high up the pitch, but working casually, meaning when they counter we get caught out
