'I will leave' - £20m star hailed as 'unique' by Dan Agger wants Prem move. Bid?

Long-term Liverpool target Christian Eriksen has once again publicly stated his desire to play in the Premier League.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport today, the Ajax midfield maestro hinted that this season could he his last in Holland, and suggested that winning the Europa League final'in our own stadium' would be a suitable swan-song. He mused:

"I think that my future lies in England. I will leave Ajax at one point, but I want to leave at the right moment and in the right way."

Eriksen also mentioned he wouldn't mind playing in Germany, Italy or Spain, but England came first in his list of preferred destinations. The Dane - who admitted last month that he finds it 'very cool' to be linked with 'big clubs' like Liverpool and Manchester United - also confirmed that there are lots of clubs trying to sign him:

"I know that there are many important clubs interested in me. It's a nice surprise [to be linked to different clubs]. I never said I would only play in La Liga. I like England and Italy too."

Ajax coach Ronald De Boer would obviously love Eriksen to stay but he seems resigned to the fact that the midfield maestro old will leave soon. He told reporters:

"It is difficult to keep him [Eriksen]. I think he is a player for Madrid or Barcelona but I think one more year at Ajax wouldn't hurt him. I can't predict next year he will be at us. If a team comes along and puts a big bag of money it would be impossible for Ajax to keep him"

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is a big fan of Eriksen, and in May, he told Ekstra Bladet:

"Eriksen has the potential to become world-class. There are no boundaries to what he can achieve. He really is a weapon for us [Denmark]. He adds creativity, and always wants the ball. He's also capable of taking set pieces with both feet. The way he kicks the ball is truly unique".

Liverpool legend Jan Molby does not share Agger's enthusiasm, and he's convinced that the £20m-rated youngster needs more time to develop before moving to one of Europe's big clubs yet. He told Goal.com:

"There is a lot of hype about Christian but he is nowhere near being the finished article. In my opinion, I don’t think he is anywhere near ready to move to one of the elite European clubs".

Molby seems pretty emphatic about Eriksen being 'nowehere near' the finished article, so I'll take his word for it. Let's just hope he doesn't end up at Man United (!) Whatever happens, it doesn't look like Liverpool or Man United have a chance as Eriksen seemingly has his heart set on a different club, as he revealed last year:

"If I got an offer from Liverpool now, I believe I would reject it. If I did move, it would have to be Barcelona".

Staying at Ajax is probably the best thing Eriksen could do right now anyway; I can't see any upside to him moving to a massive club and sitting on the bench, and/or risking failure at such a young age.

  1. I would rather have wesely snjieder simply because hes established and would be available for a lot less however ideally i think we are well stocked in the centre mid compartment and would like to see us bring in a few strikers in jan whether that be on loan or permanent at the moment will love hunterlaar, bony or even darren bent as he is already adapted to the league and weill fit nicely with suarez and sterling playing along side him in a front 3

  2. I agree. Fuck wasting money on more midfielders. Need to buy strikers strikers strikers. Look at manure. Crap midfield, ace strikers, 6 points clear.

  7. Stop it with the money wasting on players we don't need !!

We should concentrate on our own potential world class players !!

Suso needs to be given a chance first ...

  9. I don't believe that we are still talking about Christain Erikson. We are not the kind of club that traditionally turns him on. He is currently attracted to big clubs who spend a lot and compete for major honors. Having stated in the past that he is not a fan of aggressive English clubs when he was heavily linked to Man U it is refreshing to hear that he now open to the English league as well as the Spanish and Italian leagues . What happened to change his mind? It has become apparent that Ajax a great fooballing institution will not progress to the last 8 of the champions league competition anytime soon. Total foot-ball can only take you so far. Erikson is looking for more i suppose.

Unlike Jan Mobly i believe that Erikson posses enough talent to make an immediate impact on any team he were to join in Europe. The diminutive Dane possess a good touch on the ball, and can accurate killer pass when required. He is asset to any team who will have him. Clearly the kind of player Brendan Rodgers would be excited about. It is unfortunate that the love Liverpool has for him is not reciprocated by the player. He clearly wants the bigger fish in the pond.

If we were to become a spending club again then i could see Erikson as a real potential transfer target. In the world of cheap bargains that we dwell in these days he is not a realistic option.

  10. As with that Serbian kid, I don't see what he can do that Suso can't. Now if the idea was to play either one alongside Suso in midfield, that may work. But where would that leave Joe Allen? I think we're in more urgent need of a defensive midfielder. All that said, Eriksen from the right, Suso from the left and Suarez behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 could work very well...but again, where does that leave Allen?

    ----------Allen----Exteberria

    Sterling-----Eriksen-----Suso

  13. Molby isn't stating that Eriksen doesn't have the talent, he is stating that he doesn't have the experience. Big big difference there. Like others, I agree that he is not a player we need. We one of the best midfields in the league, what we need is a striker or two as well as another wide player to take the pressure off the likes of Sterling. Marco Rojas in the A-League would be a good addition for a wide berth as he, like Suarez can play on either flank, is frighteningly quick, has flair, has assists, has goals and is only 20/21. Would be able to pick him up for no more than 5 million.

  14. Absolutely not, if Lucas is fit, he has to be in the side, as he is a world class defensive midfielder. Best defensive midfielder in the league and in the top 5 in the world. 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 works better for us under Rodgers than 4-2-3-1. And by the way, if you are wanting to play 4-2-3-1, why not play Sahin in the deep lying role, which is his best position.

  15. Wolfburg diego .....is just what liverpool need at the moment

  16. On the treatment table eh....no seriously, I like Lucas. I think he's done great and shut up a lot of people who gave him a hard time. But his injury record the past year makes him a liability. That doesn't mean I think we should sell him but at the same time we shouldn't be too dependent on him either. I've seen two many careers prematurely end after players started to go down similar injury paths as Lucas.

  17. Because Sahin won't be here come July 2013.

  18. Hit and miss player. The Brazilian Andrés D'Alessandro

  19. LFC....Please get rid from signing Daniel Sturridge, Theo Wallcott, Wilfred Zaha and Darrent Bent. They are only expensive players who will demand high salary. Not best answer for goal scorer issue and very easy to get injure but very slow progress to make come back. What biggest expectation we all can hope from all of them? Disapointed only. Better break the bank to fishing EDison Cavani, Gonzalo Higuin, Mario Gotze, Karim Benzema, Lendro Damiao, Sergio Agguerro, David Villa, Christian Erikson and Tello.Sometimes we must do this plan to get best players.

  21. We are talking about the here and now, and as of right now, Sahin is here. Some of the players that you have mentioned might not actually be here come July 2013 and who's to say we won't purchase Sahin? If he is, I would have Sahin over Exteberria any day of the week.
